We came on Saturday evening, The owner who came out to serve us has an absolutely disgusting attitude and was very rude, her customer service skills are non existent and made us feel like we were some sort of nusance for being there, the way she snatched the menus from the table then had no manners. We spent £60+ on 4 meals, the food was absolutely delicious apart from the tartare sauce which was to accompany the fish, it smelled like toilet duck or some sort of lemon disinfectant. The little dark haired girl who seemed to be doing everything was really nice and friendly, if it wasn’t for her who was lovely, well mannered and helpful I think we would have all walked out and told the rude owner we would take our business else where. We will not be returning in a hurry while that owner is still in charge.

Visited for Sunday lunch after a recommendation. Very reasonably priced tasty food. I had the homemade rabbit and black pudding pie which was excellent. The beef and lamb were also both good with a good selection of vegetables. It would be even better with turnip in my opinion. A special mention to our server who was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I’ll Definitely visit again.

The Wheatsheaf Inn is on our doorstep so it was a lovely surprise to find a lovely friendly and comfortable place for our family gathering. The staff were great and the food was enjoyed by everyone. You need to go with a big appetite as the portions were generous. There is a good range of starters/main meals and bar meals on offer without being too overwhelming. Well done to all at Wheatsheaf for providing a good local service.

If you are in the area you need to give this place a try, proper home made pub food that doesn’t disappoint. Portions are large, no scrimping on sizes here, food is served hot and fresh. My wife’s steak and kidney pie would have given Desperate Dan a challenge, packed with succulent steak with a lovely shortcrust pastry , my halloumi flat bread was large, well put together with fresh herbs added for extra taste. Service is prompt and friendly. Value for money was very good. The only think that disappointed us was that we couldn’t finish both our meals, it was such a shame to leave such lovely food. We will be back again I am sure.

We went this evening for an early dinner before the theatre and we weren’t disappointed. The specials menu offers amazing value and something different from the mundane food on offer locally from venison loin to pheasant sausages there’s defiantly a game feel to the menu which is perfect for the winter nights. I had the goats cheese tartlet my partner the mushrooms to start, followed by ox cheek and mash, and the chicken in cream sauce both were delicious and no extra charge for terrine of vegetables to accompany them. Another bonus was homemade chips! What more can you want… 2 people, 2 courses £37. With a roaring fire in the pub it’s cheaper than putting the heating on so we’ll be back next week.

A very disappointing, unwelcoming visit with a very strange ordering system. Upon arrival, I went into the bar to order drinks and food whilst my husband and young child sat outside. I was told by a weary and depressed looking woman (who later told me that she was the manager) that because they ‘didn’t want to get into the same situation as yesterday’ where it was very busy, food orders would be taken at the table and she then began complaining about how ‘bad’ last night had been. She also said, ‘I just wish people would book.’ After this, she told a young girl to come and take our order after the table who were seated next to us. Not a very friendly welcome, but nevertheless I headed outside and waited for someone to come and take our order. Twenty minutes went by and no one came. I went inside and asked if someone could take our order. I was told no and that I had to wait. We waited a further ten minutes and still no one came. At this point, we decided to just pay for our drinks as it had been half an hour and leave. The manager was not at all apologetic and we left feeling confused and let down.

I took my Mother here for Sunday lunch. She is a stranger to the northern side of the Tyne but on a visit to see me and grab some shopping nearby I found this pub through google. I have eaten at the nearby Shiremoor House Farm a few times and wanted to try somewhere new. Despite the most recent reviews being negative I still thought it might be worth a try. We were regular visitors, however, we experienced unacceptable and disappointing customer customer service when raised concerns about one of our meals. We ordered 4 Sunday lunches which as usual where very good, we ordered a chicken and mushroom pie which came with a raw pastry base. This was quietly mentioned to the waiting on staff, who immediately apologised. We presented ourselves to pay the bill and a female staff member who claimed to be one of the management team informed us that she had taken a few pounds off due to the pie. When we explained that the pie was not edible and therefore ruined the meal, we politely requested a full refund for the pie meal. The response was unique, that the guest had eaten a bit of the meal, and they could have simply eaten the filling if the pastry was raw. We were eventually given a full refund for the pie dish by a very angry and disgruntled employee. We will never return.

Young lady was very pleasant and helpful, as was the guy. We both ordered baguettes which were very nice but the only problem is the lack of choice. It was either prawn with Marie rose sauce (and it came minus sauce which was soon rectified when the missing item was pointed out) or cheese no selections to go with the cheese just cheese. There was a nice salad accompaniment along with Doritos. Unfortunately purely due to lack of choice with the menu we won’t be returning. However if this changes we will certainly return. However the visit was spoiled when my son fell in a large mound of dog muck inside the beer garden. When we raised this with the staff they were fairly apologetic, and said that the majority of dog owners are responsible. However there was a dog running around loose in the beer garden. They should have told the owner (who seemed to be a regular) to keep it on a lead, as clearly he doesnt know what the dog is doing when it is out of sight. I'm all for dog friendly pubs, but until they decide to keep the dogs under control then I wont be going back. Would appreciate a response from the manager on this.

I have visited the Wheatsheaf twice, once at lunchtime and once in the evening. At lunchtime it was very quiet, which I think is due to its location. In the evening it was busier with a nice atmosphere. The food is excellent. Starters, such as crab risotto and a trio of fishcakes are delicious. There is a good range of main courses including wonderful pies with proper short crust pastry. Portions are large, so no room for pudding! The service is attentive and friendly and prices are very reasonable. The Wheatsheaf is well worth a visit!

I recently came here for food and was really pleased. I thought it was more a local drink type of pub with some bar meals, well be prepared to be surprised they do lots of different types of food and it's bloody lovely, proper home made chips and all reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this to everyone. I will be going back for more!

Visited The Wheatsheaf after it was recommended by close friend and was not disappointed. We were a group of 7 adults and 2 children. We had reserved seating to ensure we could all sit comfortably together. The pub is well presented, comfortable seating, log fire which was welcome given the snowy weather. Usual drinks on offer. Food though was outstanding, Venison Pie was great, Sunday lunches of Lamb, Chicken, Beef or Pork were highly recommended. Some had starters some had puddings, Black Pudding starter was great, Crab cakes excellent. Puddings - Ginger sponge, ice cream, cheesecake were all very tasty. Can only support my friends view that this is a great place to take family/friends for lunch. We will be visiting again.

Friendly and welcoming. Food is great value: big portions and moderately priced. Tasty food, especially the chips and salad. Newly refurbished toilets are good. Pub itself could probably do with a lick of paint but who cares when all that really matters is the service and the food.

Just tucked nicely away off the main road this pub gives the feeling of being a friendly, country retreat. Very good bar service where you are warmly greeted as if you were a regular. Good pub bar meals giving value for money. A nice place to simply sit and enjoy a reasonably priiced glass of wine.

We pre-ordered for Christmas dinner. We were really looking forward to it after a lovely Christmas dinner last year. We were so disappointed. Tables not set for Christmas, a couple of cheap crackers were unceremoniously dumped on the table after we were seated. No festive atmosphere at all. Dinner came floating in a ring of grease followed by a bowl of cold vegetables. We sent the veg back, by the time they has reheated them we had nearly finished our reconstituted turkey. We did eat it as we were starving. The waitress was very apologetic and said she hoped our dessert was better, unfortunately she had her finger up her nose at the time and if we hadn't already been put off we were after that. Declined dessert and made a hasty exit. Don't waste you money was a total let down. Our Christmas night out lasted less than 30 minutes.

I have reviewed this place in the past and all ways found it to be good, not tonight without doubt one of the worst meals I have had out .No atmosphere, apart from two cheap Christmas crackers dumped on the table after we sat down ,I had been asked to pre order,so within in minutes of sitting dozen out came a sorry looking plate of food mash two roast potatoes and processed turkey all surrounded by a ring of grease, then arrived a dish of cold vegetables, hard sprouts it was awful ,the veg was taken away and reheated other food growing cold. The waitress came and asked if everything was ok ,I said no ,she had her finger up her nose all the time playing with a nose stud, she asked if we wanted dessert,at that point I had enough and decided it was time to leave. At the bar a message came saying the (chef) ha ,was asking what the problem was I then refused to pay for both meals and payed for one ,in my opinion still too much.Dont was really time and money in this place .

Arrived approx 5.45pm thought we would have tea some where different. Asked at the bar about meals etc. Told to sit where ever and a menu would be brought over. Finally got a menu after a lengthy wait. Approx 3 other couples in eating. Waitress came back asking for our order. Gave her my menu choice & was told drinks only for now. what on earth? I then explained we only wanted food not a drinks she said again drinks only for now. Obviously food wasn't a priority for this place. Looked decent but what a shame we didn't find out & wont be visiting again.

My husband and I visited the Wheatsheaf, after being rudely addressed by a staff member at Shiremoor House Farm! I was celebrating my birthday and we were so pleased we came here. The place is clean, warm and very welcoming. The staff are helpful, keen and eager to please. My meal was delicious, the starter of crumbed prawns and dip arrived speedily and was very tasty. My salmon fillet with prawn and peas risotto was scrumptious. The sweet of mango and peach cheesecake with coconut ice cream was yummy. Unfortunately they don't do de-caffeinated coffee so I had hot water and lemon instead. I was really impressed with the standard of food, including the portion sizes. This is definitely one to visit, especially on a Sunday lunchtime. Well done to all the staff. We'll be calling again, maybe through the week to try a different menu.

Twice now we have been to The Wheatsheaf on a Thursday and the service was dreadful. The food was excellent, but, when you have to wait for service because the staff are more interested in doing the quiz, it gets a more than a little annoying. Must remember not to go on Thursday!!!

We called to have a meal and a drink in the restaurant on the 7th September at around 7.30 pm. I bought a couple of drinks and we sat in the restaurant & waited & waited & waited some more! Zzzzzzzz!!! No sign of a blackboard with descriptions of meals, no sign of any menus anywhere, and the waiting staff simply walked past us frequently, completely ignoring us. Not a word of greeting or acknowledgement of our existence was made.Eventually, finished our drinks & gave up on any hope of being served, when there were only three other tables occupied by customers, so the place was not busy. Went down to Copperfield's at the Grand Hotel in Tynemouth, where the staff spotted us without difficulty and we had a really good meal. From recent reviews the meals sound good at the Wheatsheaf but unfortunately we will probably never know whether they are.

Nice pub inside, friendly staff. Not over priced. Toilets were dated. Reminded me of walking into an old swimming baths. But had obviously been scrubbed from top to bottom. Some toilets that you walk into make you think these need ripping out & the stuff burning. These toilets weren't like that. Ordered slow cooked lamb shank. Came with nice veggies but lamb was tough. The chef asked me how it was. So I told him Lamb was tough. Hopefully that will make him cook it slower. No vat number because they've only just taken over. Could see that they'd put a lot of work into the presentation of the place. New carpets and the pub was clean throughout. I get the feeling the owners will be disappointed when they read about the Lamb. They seem to care about the place which is always a good thing. So would give them the benefit of the doubt & eat here again if I was passing. They're obviously giving it a good go which you can't fault anyone for.
