When to the Red Lion for dinner,staff very pleasant,bar area nice and spacious and generally clean ,that’s where it ends ,myself and wife sat at table no 42 facing the corner opposite,where four dogs were congratulating with there owners ,lovely dogs ,so lovely they had a dogs water bowl on there table ,the dogs sat on the seats next to there owners ,and even due to the fact that the owners put dog blankets on the seats ,the dogs just walked over the seats ,I do believe that the dogs found the tables ok for there use ,but call my old fashioned it was not acceptable to me and my wife ,please note iam not saying anything detrimental about the dogs they felt at home ,you may ask the question why I ordered the meals in this situation,one reason is that my wife does not like confrontation,so I kept my mouth shut ,the meal my wife wanted was not available so she chose another ,I chose Irish burgers Wow wow What a pile of rubbish ,mind you the dogs kept looking over at them ,but iam not cruel I love dogs ,would not like the vet bills if they ate them The icing on the cake was when my wife went for the salt she picked it up and low and behold they had not put the bottom on ,this in due course allowed the salt to pour out from the bottom ,method in there mad ness more salt kills the taste no complaints This is fact oh and do not drink the beer unless you like warm flat ale

I had the Hunters Chicken minus bbq sauce(at my request)it was beautiful,so looking forward to dessert,ordered Cheesecake,then a few minutes later told sorry,that was a mistake we don't have cheesecake,so thought well I love trifle,I'll have that,OMG I can honestly say this is the worst trifle I've ever tasted,in fact to call it trifle is an insult,it was bland, watery and disgusting,really wish I had not ordered dessert,then this review would have been so much more positive

Decided to try the Sunday carvery at the red lion in earsdon. £11.50 adult and £8 for children. Had three meats beef, turkey and gammon with Yorkshire pudding veg and gravy. Was absolutely lovely. Definitely recommend. Staff were great. We didn't book so had to sit in the bar area as it was very busy so I would book next time.

Totally Amazing what a lovely place to have a family lunch on a Sunday afternoon . We were welcomed by a member of staff who went out of her way to ensure we got a table as we forgot to book . Pat you are a star. The Sunday carvery was outstanding from the choice of meats served by the chef who was happy to give you exactly what you wanted . Then the selection of veg was fabulous, roasties were to die for and the mash was dreamy creamy too . I can honestly say that all of us cleared our plates from the oldest to the youngest . We will definitely be back as what a hard working family friendly team and a genuinely great place to enjoy a family meal nothing was too much trouble .. You all deserve recognition what a great pub with an ice cream parlour on the out side terrace too Just fabulous for all the family

A real gem. Great selection of beer, well looked after and you get your proper measure with a glass filled to the brim - no short measures here (other establishments take note). Food is mouthwateringly delicious. Another reviewer remarked on the black pudding in peppercorn sauce and I can only echo that praise - you have to taste it to beleive it (if I was a condemmed prisoner I'd choose this as my last meal). The lunchtime menu is a steal at the price they charge. The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming and just make you want to come back for more. Sunday carvery is sublime with a generous helping of beef, gammon or turkey (or all three if you like). Vegetables seem to be freshly prepared and cooked to a tee and the roasties are to die for. Their yorkshire puddings are superb - crispy on the outside and softer in the middle - just how I like 'em. One "complaint" might be the yorkies could be too big for some (not for me!). How about doing two sizes, large and small? Less waste! The Red Lion is dog friendly, has plenty of parking and has a great outside seating area (nothing fancy but nice and comfortable). We used to come here during lockdown and sit outside just watching the traffic whizzing past while enjoying a nice drink on a summer's day/afternoon. A lovely, quality, reasnably priced pub and restaurant which is an asset to our community and if you haven't been then you don't know what you're missing.

Visited previously with family but noticed the new lunch menu on-line. Always happy to try another lunch venue and was not disappointed. The pub is comfortable and as it was quiet we had a choice of where to sit. We chose a cosy corner near the bar. Our Waitress/Bar Keep/everything else was superb and even though the team were dealing with a large party in the other bar paid us the perfect amount of attention. Sorry I did not catch your name but you are a credit to the pub. We made our Starter and Mains choices and the food was remarkably good. No complaints at all and very reasonably priced. We will be back to try other dishes and recommend without hesitation. Well done, brilliant lunch.

Came here for Sunday lunch with the wife and my mam , place was busy but still a lovely atmosphere in the dining area , we ordered 3 carverys , the food was hot and tasty and had much better flavours than some other places , we were all stuffed but managed dessert as well , the sticky toffee was absolutely amazing 👏 We are planning on making this a monthly event now !

Whatever you do steer clear of the "Homemade Lasagne" mine was a bowl of slop with green leaves on the side. I couldn't eat it...it was so bad!

Ordered the prawn & fried mozarella chunks with fries… very greasy & sickly. 4 hours later and iv felt more sick & had to vomit, im not sure if it was the food not agreeing with me or what but my sons chicken was not the best either. Wont be back…still feel very ill

We went with friends for a bite to eat yesterday. Granted, it was just before Christmas and we had booked our table which was squashed in the corner and made seating tight for us and the next table. Ordered food and after 40 minutes wait went to question this a reply of you should have been told there was a 30/40 minutes wait....not told. So I asked is there as much wait for desserts as we are conscious of time due to school pick ups but apparently different chef. Main course...chips burnt, gammon good job we had a sharp knife as really over cooked, chicken pie...topping lovely and flaky but when you took off the top the filling only covered about half an inch of bowl but apparently the beef pie was lovely. Bread and butter pudding....had no taste I was lucky and got sultanas but thought it had chocolate topping when it was served but no they were all burnt but apparently the ice cream sundae was nice apart from chunks of ice in ice cream. Custard very watery. We didn't complain at the time as didn't have enough time for other good to be cooked so just won't be going back.

Fabulous carvery Sunday lunch with the family over from Dubai, who were mightily impressed. Everything about it was absolutely spot-on and our two young grandchildren were equally well catered for. Lovely decor, beer and staff too. Incredibly clean and friendly and we will certainly be back. It's obviously very popular.

Came for lunch to celebrate a birthday.quite quiet so didn't have to wait long.Staff very friendly and helpful. Food hot,fresh,homemade and tasty. Only downside was you could only get a starter if you ordered off lunch menu and not main menu.would definitely go back though.

After a long absence due to COVID restrictions we decided to try the Red Lion for out Sunday Lunch my friend and I had the carvery which was really good with massive home made yorkies and a good choice of meats. We booked a table for the following Friday for our Girls lunch 4 of us all had different meals and really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend a meal at 'The Lion' .

Great staff and very comfortable seating, food out of this world!!! I had the steak and ale pie and I have to say it was the best I’ve ever had! Never seen a pie with so much steak in it, the flavour was to die for, really beefy with that lovely ale flavour. Superb. My partner had scampi which was a very good size portion and nice and big, cooked to perfection.

I have been a regular in this bar for many years now. But unfortunately I will never return as a certain member of staff called Layla is one poisonous person who should not be allowed to work with the public. She is one vindictive woman. Be very wary and cautious about her. A very clicky bar.

Stopped by for an impromptu lunch, having never visited before. Excellent quality, generous portions of homecooked food. The children's meals were of the same high quality as the adults food, and this is often not the case when eating out. We were all really impressed and the kids loved it too. Will definitely be back. First visit after recommendation from family. Very clean and welcoming, front of house team very smart, courteous and always smiling. Our food choices from a reduced Easter menu were beautifully prepared, generous and very tasty. Table was cleared regularly and new courses arrived together (we were a table of 6). Piping hot and well presented on the plate. Toilets by the way are very well kept. Will be back for the normal menu. Well done, very impressed.

Me and my wife took our son out for tea.. she wasn't that hungry so opted for chips and gravey.. me on the other hand got the cheese and bacon burger and what a burger it was amazing to say the least. A added bonus my son ate for 1p.. yes 1p homemade chicken dippers homemade chips and beans with my adult meal I paid for.. surely this is costing the establishment out of their own pocket to help families out to get out!! Haven't been for a while and won't be going back .how can they call this a Yorkshire pudding .After asking if they had any fresh ones coming out as they were burnt .they brought these out .which weren't any better .and the lad serving the carvery says there's nothing wrong with them .if had cooked them they would have went in the bin .got to say the girl behind the bar was lovely .

We visited here on a Saturday evening as a family of five adults. It was an early visit around d six thirty and it was very quiet. However the place had a nice welcoming ambience and it was lovely and warm and tastefully decorated. The service was both friendly and efficient and the food was served in a nice timely manner. The portion sizes were very generous and it was cooked beautifully. The prices were very reasonable, especially as the quality of the food was second to none. We will definitely be revisiting The Red Lion and I would highly recommend paying it a visit.

Attended last night. Outdoor drinks and dining. The service was terrible. Young staff chucked in at the deep end who couldn’t cope. We waited 1hr 20mins for drinks the order was taken in three separate occasions by three different staff! I am not sure how you can get the organisation so wrong with limited tables over a limited time? Feedback provided to the management on the night and certainly won’t be going back.

Sunday lunch at the Red Lion Earsdon. I don’t usually go for Sunday lunch as it usually comes without gravy and Yorkshires when you’re coeliac! Very impressed with this though it was absolutely lovely, gluten free thick gravy and GF Yorkshire puddings as well, meat was tender and moist lots of creamy mash and mashed Swede. We had a lovely family meal in one of the outside beach huts. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the whole set up seemed very organised bearing in mind the current covid requirements. All the meals ordered (Burger, Chorizo Chicken, Hunters Chicken, Scampi and Halloumi Flatbread) were enjoyed very much and presented to us in good time. The star of the show for me personally was the Black Pudding, Bacon and Egg starter!! Highly recommended!! We will be back.

I visited The Red Lion on Bank Holiday Monday for some food with my wife and family, and I genuinely can’t believe how impressed I was by the food and service. I ordered the crispy belly pork with black pudding, mash, assorted greens and gravy so thick you could cut into slices - just fantastic! I could eat that same meal every day for a month, seriously.My wife ordered the chilli and garlic flatbread with halloumi and hand carved chips and this was another triumph. Often you go to pubs and vegetarian just means a pie without meat (steak and mushroom without the steak, etc,) or a terrible, dusty zombie’s lad which they refer to as a nut roast. Not here. You could tell from the choice available they’d thought through what vegetarian folk might like, and they delivered!My 4yr old, who’s awesome but fussy as flip, had the chicken dippers and fries and she wolfed that down with zero complaints (possibly the best compliment you can get!), and my extended family both had the ‘Unsociable Chicken’ which is in a garlic and cream sauce with prawns - again, they were blown away and said the taste was akin to hosting a Van Halen concert in your mouth. OK I will start by saying the service was good and the meal was quick considering how busy the pub was. The chorizo chicken and blades of beef meals were absolutely lovely.However the two deserts were awful and are surely not to the standard quality from this pub? The chocolate cake was OK but the custard was the thinnest blandest custard I've ever tasted. The cheesecake we were sure looked like it was from Aldi and nothing special. Both £5 each!Along with 3 'so-called' pints of coke (served in pepsi size glasses) at £3.80 each, no starters, these two meals and deserts would have cost over £41. I'm glad at least we got it 50% discounted.Certainly not value for money but those deserts sadly ended our meal disappointed.

In the Red lion Earsdon the day with my family we all had the most amazing meals it was fantastic service and all safety procedures in place we all so enjoyed all staff working so hard thank yous all bar / kitchen it was bloody gorgeous will be back again x

Never been before July, my partner has been very unsure about going out since the Covid-19 situation. However I drove into the car park and said " its upto you "Best choice shes made in years, tables are separated my plastic screens, every member of staff has a plastic visor, you don't approach the bar so they come to you and you never wait long, my partner was so wound up about going she ended up in tears and it was the manageress who came to chat to her to make her feel at ease.Every meal we've had has been spot on, to be honest we had a burger and it was actually multiple burgers way too much for us so it fed our 2 dogs as well, they recommend it also My next selection will have to be cod & chips.My partner met her friend for lunch on 24th August at 12 noon, she had the salmon & king prawn and friend had unsociable chicken, both meals were lovely, and I picked them up 6hrs later, both very happy ! ! !

Myself and family were lucky enough to get a table at red lion for Sunday lunch, service was brilliant, was told about a wait which was fair enough and certainly worth it once we got our food, staff very friendly and nothing was a bother!! Considering all the changes having to be abided to, I feel the staff and management team are really trying to make things an enjoyable safe experience, we will certainly be back!! Brought my family along for a meal. Service was fantastic. Brilliant COVID protocol in place. We where made to feel at ease by the front of house staff. I had a belly pork and my wife had the blades of beef both meals where absolutely stunning and the portion size where great. My kids both had chicken dippers and the scoffed the lot. Would defo recommend this place. Thanks to all the staff for making our visit great.

We used to visit this pub several time a week and it was always fab ... Today was my second visit since lock down... I'm now convinced it has changed management or hands... The service is atrocious.. The wait time rediciolous... The manageress attitude leaves alot o be desired.... Waited over an hour to be served.. our food when it arrived it was cold. The manageress completely embarrassed us shouting at us in front of other customers... We will never visit this pub again... Hope the old management and staff come back

table was booked for 7pm.we were told to order at the bar, which we done, approached by somewhat possibly not suitably trained or very very new staff, they almost seemed as if they did not know what they were there for. We were told that it was an hours wait on the food order, quite a significant wait when the tables were not all full, that aside, we discussed it and decided to stay. The food eventually came, and i was happy enough with mine, can't fault that, however i must mention - I ordered two soft drinks in my order, and at half price two pints of diet coke was £5, disgusting for a local pub!

Me and the wife came as a Monday night treat after a long weekend, we were greeted by a lovely young lady who told us what to expect from our visit as it was our first time. The decor could do with updating and tyding up a little bit but it does not spoil the atmosphere. My wife ordered the unsociable chicken in a creamy garlic sauce and I the ribeye steak, unfortunately we weren’t advised that there was a 1 hour wait on food however we only waited 45 minutes (bonus), my steak was cooked to perfection. I ordered medium-rare and that it was, absolutley phenomenal, tender and succulent. The wife’s chicken was amazing however could not eat all of it as the portion sizes are extra large. Extra cheap to since they have the 50% off scheme on, we will certainly be returning and I will 100% be ordering another steak.

Have to say never been there befor and live not to far away thought I would give it a try and have to say how lovely the food was had Sunday dinner and have to say one off the best places to go for one amazing dinner and puddings couldn't eat for the rest off the day, the team are lovely and will do anything to help thank you again will be back

Despite booking a table a few days prior we waited nearly an hour for a drink,asked 3 times for a menu and then were told it would be an hours wait for food!Needless to say we did not wait and went to Seaton Sluice for fabulous takeaway fish and chips!It was not dead busy and although the offer was on that’s why you book a table to ensure you get served.We won’t be back!

Visited the Red Lion on 50%off day. It was the first time out for our parents. We had a lovely table in the corner of the bistro. Cleanliness was 100%. We were taken to our table and staff were very attentive and well trained on Covid procedure.Plenty of hand sanitisers around. Cutlery was wrapped and placed in a bag. Food was superb. Highly recommend belly pork!Well done and we will definitely be back.

I booked a table weeks ago after asking online for dining reservations and this place was suggest so many times! Left stood at the door 5 mins then the waitress came back and asked my name again! Seated near the door too close to another table and again another 5 mins before she returned with menus- we asked to move as it was chilly. Moved further into the bar area and had plenty of room! Ordered starters - no halloumi available! Mains- ordered then the waitress returned to say I could have the chicken and prawn dish but without the prawns- re looked at menu but decided ok I’ll have without prawns and I asked for veg not chips! Came back again- no veg available?! Asked for salad - that was ok! Came back and said no blade of beef available- Hubby asked for mixed grill - no steaks available! Settled for scampi! Starters came and they were nice but we couldn’t keep the flies off our food! No cucumber on kids meal as requested- prob didn’t have any but weren’t made aware! Mains- my chicken arrived with chips so sent it back! The chips on one scampi were cooked beautifully but the other portion not so! Couldn’t have puds as kitchen closed! Kids not impressed! Luckily it was 50% off but we won’t return as we left disappointed. I ordered a gin and after watching it being made and the ice almost completely melted whilst he located the gin made the drink taste just of lemonade! I had high expectations for this pub as I had heard so much good stuff! But no halloumi steak prawns or veg available?! It’s Monday night! The bill was satisfactory but had to call at Sainsburys on the way home for some pud for the kids! Covid 19 related - well set out. Not asked for track and trace but staff in PPE, cutlery in bags, toilets clean and one in one out!

Amazing experience at The Red Lion, I was very nervous going out to eat for the first time since lockdown but I did not have to worry, everything felt quite normal although all the covid rules were followed through perfectly, Every single member of staff spoke to us and all were very friendly and professional we sat in the beach house which was great, the service was exceptional, then came our food which was also fantastic, so too marks all round from us, look forward to our next vist. Well done!

The red lion is ok for Sunday lunch it gets very busy and sometimes you can not get passed each other When collecting your lunch and sometimes it has not been hot enough but it’s ok easy place to get to by car Plenty car parking

Excellent customer service. Catered to our needs, nothing but praise for the staff especially keeping to tough covid-19 regulations. Will return next time without the carto get a longer sample of the fun and friendly atmosphere.

Just had a fantastic family birthday meal. COVID rules followed to the letter - safety first. However still the friendly faces made to feel welcomed service brilliant. Food - well it was exceptional as it always has been. Quality and value for money exceptional.Highly recommend.Thanks Lyn Dava and Team

One of many visits i have made myself. A few of us from work went for someone's retirement Food and service was excellent and great value set menu.

Went with whole family only to be told their are no vegan options as listed here because of this it meant a family member couldnt eat anything and we had to leave to find a better place.

Started off quite well pate tasty, soup a bit bland. Then we waited and waited and watched while others were served after an hour I asked where our food was. We were informed that our food was being plated up as we spoke. Our food was served my husband was served the wrong meal and my pie and chips looked as if they had been standing for ages when we pointed out that my husband had not ordered the roast of the day but chicken piri piri we were told that the chef would bring our food out WHY ON EARTH WAS THIS NECESSARY. When I mentioned that my pie and chips were cold the chef was exceptionally rude and then when my husband tried to eat his piri piri chicken he likened it to eating a piece of shoe leather. It was definitely not a portion of fresh chicken but a portion of chicken from a low market frozen food shop. The staff front of house on that day were doing their best to cope with a very busy lunch time service while obviously having to cope with the kitchen staff having problems. First and last time we will visit

No surprise at yet another amazing meal at The Red Lion. Lovely log burning fire adding to the atmosphere and the waitress able to talk us through all the available specials. Food came quickly and was amazing. Enjoyed every bit and left 2 empty plates.You know it's a great place to dine when you see so many full tables.. espcially on a Sunday carvery day.. Will be going again and again

very popular, good food freshly cooked so particularly at busy times there can be a long wait. Friendly helpful staff accommodating requested menu changes.

Food was high quality for such a good price. Friendly staff and dog friendly. £7.50 for three courses of that quality is probably the best value food I've ever had.

On 29 th January 5 of us went for lunch,we had the 3 course special.the starters were fine but the mains were not.Two of us had gammon which was very chewy and 2 had the chicken with pepper corn sauce,the chicken was dry and the sauce tasteless,this is the first time we have had a complaint about the food so thought it was a one off,but on Monday 3 rd February 3 of us went for the special again ,I had the hunters chicken without the bbq sauce ,I have never had hunters chicken like it ,the chicken was cut into pieces and would of been lucky to have a 1/4 of a breast but that wasn’t the worst part ,it came on wedges which were soft and very greasy, I left half of it,I was wondering if they had changed the chef,

Firstly the Sunday Carvery was excellent!! Lots of choose and good quality!!Unfortunately my whole experience was ruined by staff behaviour.I'd misunderstood when order a king-size Carvery that dessert WASN'T included as it was with the other tickets we'd ordered.It wasn't a problem as I was happy to pay for my dessert at the £4.65 price.The waitress came over to the table and took our orders and then she popped over to me and said she'd put the charge onto a Tab on Table 2 which I said great.My pudding came and a different member of staff asked me to pay there and then which shocked me a bit as it's not the norm to ask for payment at the table particularly when her colleague had said it was on a Tab!!She then proceeded to explain it was cash only as it was under £5.I hesitated as my family were all eating there pudding and I felt as if she was waiting for me to pay. She asked me if I had cash? Which made me feel like if I'd said No she'd have taken the dessert away! I said I have cash thanks and she seemed to reluctantly leave.She return to the bar were it felt like I was being spoken about as staff kept looking at the table fearing I might leave and not pay!!My wife paid the £4.85 at the bar but as we were getting in the car a staff member came out and asked if we'd paid!! Saying she'd been sent by another staff member to ask!!I felt like some kind of criminal!! We had just spent nearly £100 nnd it totally spoilt my family lunch.Finally living only down the road i've eaten at the Red Lion many times and enjoyed great food but this visit I'm afraid has put me off. ever going again.As I say the food is excellent but the communication between staff is disappointing and need improvement!

My friend and i got there after 4pm ,ordered a starter and main course, to be told that because we were ordering from the classic menu we would be eligible for free sweets,(puddings), Great , 2 starters of black pudding , 1 of unsociable chicken 1 of scampi, Enjoyed both starters and mains, Initially staff were fine .. bit busy, We were told 40mins for meal but starters were on table in less than 20. We enjoyed the meals greatly, Unfortunately, we waited 40 mins waiting for the table to be cleared. Which left us no tine to have our sweets. ( we had already been informed we had to beclear of table by 6,30 as it was reserved, just after the waitress left a " reserved " sign on the table about 5.15pm) Not sure i would rush back , unless i know the service has improved.
