Staying nearby stopped off for a swift drink, good service & clearly popular as quite busy, loved the bare stone walls, the flowery paper looked liked something from the 60’s lol

We decided to try this pub as we had herd good things about it. It is a traditional looking country pub, very small and dated. The food on offer was excellent quality and cooked to order. The staff seem more than nice and nothing was too much trouble. Reasonable priced. The menu ranged was really good too, what I would call traditional English, one of our party had liver and bacon, I had fish and chips, and the other member had a wonderful pie, all served pipping hot. The down side is it is very small, and very very dated not shabby chic dated just grubby looking dated.

The place on the whole isn't bad at all. It has obviously diversified from a normal local pub on a corner to trying to break into being a gastro pub.The food is imaginative if not a little different to what you expect. By that I mean that it doesn't serve what I would class as authentic spanish food, more of an interpretation of it!All considered it is definitely worth a visit and hopefully it will be when it's a little quieter. I've been several times and seen it quiet and peaceful as well as loud and busy. Many people use this as a stop by on their way into town.

This pub has great decor, good selection of beers, is nicely lit, clean and the staff are friendly. But the atmosphere is ruined because of the awful radio 1 style music that they play (sometimes quite loudly so you can't have a conversation). It just doesn't seem appropriate for a cosy pub to have pop music like this blasting out. I've even seen them put commercial radio station on so you get adverts blasting out in between the awful music. It's a real shame as it could be a great pub but myself and a number of other people I know are put off because of the music situation.

This pub has a split personality. It's trying to be a Tynemouth pub in North Shields; the muted paint job, shabby chic stylings and mismatched chairs and wallpaper all point towards NE30. But it doesn't work. The food is inconsistent - roasts great one week, shoe leather the next. They have a good range of beers...but they're usually off or poorly kept. I could do without the music, but people must like it. The staff aren't unfriendly as such, but they could be friendlier. Stop looking at the clock when people order food. Smile a bit more. I get the feeling the whole place could do with an hour or so with someone who knows how to do this sort of thing properly - North Shields isn't short of friendly boozers and good places to eat.

Every home should have a local like this within walking distance. If you are looking for 'haute cuisine' then forget it. If you want Michelin star performance then go somewhere else BUT if you want a pleasant Sunday lunch when doing it yourself is simply too much to bother then this is where you come. Nice food with pleasant service and staff means you get great value and that wonderful feeling of being well fed and watered which will last you through the walk home.

The food is homemade and is good quality. Unfortunately the bar staff have no idea how to serve ale or are not interested. The sparklers are loose , probably to save them pouring time , but this ruins the pint. On more than one occasion we have had to take our glasses back because of they were dirty with grease, we did ask politely but felt the bar staff were confrontational and refused to replace the drink. They did eventually pour it into other glasses but complained all the time that it was due to the colour of the ale!! At nearly £3:50 a pint you should be entitled to a clean glass and good service. We won't be back. Complements to the chef though.

The Pub & Kitchen is lovely inside, good service, good food, good value but the atmosphere is totally ruined by the awful music they play loudly! When the pub first opened I couldn't believe we finally had a decent pub in shields to relax with friends over a few pints. My first visit was great and I looked forward to returning but every time I've been back I've ended up walking out because they now okay very loud music which is just innapropriate for the age group of people who would visit a pub like that. It's often Radio One type stuff which is targeted to 13-20 year olds. They even have Magic FM on the TV screen sometimes with similar awful pop music playing. It's such a shame because it's very off putting and I know a lot of people who now don't go back because of it. It really spoils the atmosphere of what otherwise would be the best pub in shields.

My friends & I have visited every 6 weeks or so for food, wine & a good natter. At first, when the P & K first opened, we were very pleased with the standard of the food & the friendly atmosphere in the pub. Gradually the standard of food has deteriorated : last time we had tapas which was ok in terms of selection but generally cold when it arrived. This time we had 2 fish dishes & one steak. The order was taken down incorrectly (the bar staff were too busy chatting to each other) which lead to a delay in our food arriving. The steak was barely cooked & had to be sent back as it was inedible. Previously the steak was served on a platter with chips in a basket/bucker. Now it comes in a soggy heap on a plate. They had run out of house wine so we had to spend more on the alternative. Apologies were given but the staff seemed disinterested. We will not be going back.

We went here for lunch during the week and found the place to be very disappointing.First we ordered drinks which were fine but sat at a table close to the bar and my fiancé could feel the floor shaking constantly below her. Made her feel a bit ill. So we moved to a table in the 4 table dining area only to find that the table was so unstable and dangerous it was unfit for use. Even the slightest lean on the top would make it tilt almost off the hinge. Then to top it off, they were out of burgers so we left

Myself, my mother and my grandmother visited the pub on a whim and had never really heard of it. We ordered to P&K beef burgers and a steak. With out a shadow of a doubt I can safely say the beef burger was one of the best I have ever had, with a chilli chutney to compliment the wonderfully juicy burger. The sirloin we ordered medium and was cooked to perfection, the meat was so tender it practically melted in the mouth! Over all the meals when fantastic! All I could possibly say to improve would be the atmosphere as it was quiet on our visit however we did visit mid-week. Went back with my friend for Sunday dinner. We both had the beef, love how they carve it nice and thick and the yorkshire puddings are good. Lots of nice gravy in a little boat. My roast potatoes were undercooked but my friend's were cooked through and they were lovely. Not sure what they do to the mash, it looks like rice pudding and is a bit lumpy but tastes delicious, we were trying to work out what the secret ingredient was. The veg was reheated but ok, although mangetout reheated in a microwave will only ever go floppy and limp. We did go in after 3pm so maybe the veg was from earlier which to be honest is to be expected. We had sticky toffee pudding for afters, we were told that there was no cream so we had it with ice cream. It was nice but very stodgy and we could only eat a little bit. Not sure if this was a home made dessert, I normally ask but forgot this time.To sum up, the dinner was quite nice, good value and I would try again...... Oh and I have to mention this!!! There was a table of morons (about 6 males, 40 somethings) sat opposite the bar at a table, and I am not easily offended however THE LANGUAGE coming from these utter halfwits was absolutely disgusting and offensive, it'd have made a sailor blush- if I'd had my young son with me I'd have been straight over make no mistake. Not once did the bar staff ask them to tone it down, so a word of advice is this: think of your other customers and if this happens again, have a word eh! It was a disgrace! Hence why I've given a 'poor' rating for atmosphere.

My son and I visited the Pub and Kitchen last week. I'd heard that the food was very good and my son wanted to try the burgers. We loved the decor, cosy yet spacious, with grand tables and chintzy furniture combined with good lighting- they've done a good job with the place. Service was ok, the girl behind the bar who took our order was pleasant enough- the reason I have given an 'average' rating is when I asked the waitress for some extra napkins, she was talking to another member of staff and just turned her head round and gave the impression that she didn't appreciate me interrupting her conversation, she didn't approach the table when I spoke to her, slightly annoying and bordering on rude. And also, although the lady who seemed to be the owner/manager was really nice, she did not know if the ice cream we'd ordered had been bought in or home made on the premises when I enquired- surely she should know that! Nor did she offer to find out. Oh well. Despite those 2 things, we really enjoyed our food. I ordered the half pint of prawns, although messy and fiddly it was nice (I hadn't realised the prawns would be unpeeled), the prawns tasted fresh (although there was quite a bit of water at the bottom of the glass which suggests to me they may have been frozen) and marie rose sauce lovely. I then had the scampi, the home made tartare sauce was to die for (I assume it was home made as it tasted it) My son's cheeseburger in foccacia was juicy and he loved it, it was really good. I washed mine down with the Italian beer they sell which was heavenly. My son then ordered strawberry ice cream- now I have to be honest, when the girl put the bowl on the table it looked an absolute mess in the bowl, it had been thrown in with no regard to presentation and it was in a cereal-style bowl which didn't look good- I wouldn't have served it like that at home- I almost told her to take it away, however my son said that it tasted lovely so I let it go. Anyway we will be going back. Prices were very reasonable. Couple of little niggles but not enough to put us off going back.

Visit this pub frequently with family and live in forest hall. It’s a lovely pub and we always call in for a drink on a nice day when walking the dogs. They’re friendly and welcoming to all of us, and we always get what we want. It’s a pub, so you get what you bargain for - we normally get two pints of Stella, and large glass of wine and a fruity cider of some sort. We usually get like snacky food to share, nothing too high end. Anybody giving this pub a low rating, for honestly can’t understand why (unless they really dislike dogs). There isn’t a waiter, it’s all bar service, but it’s honestly lovely and always and the staff are always more than happy to help

When to the Red Lion for dinner, staff very pleasant, bar area nice and spacious and generally clean ,that’s where it ends ,myself and wife sat at table no 42 facing the corner opposite, where four dogs were congratulating with there owners ,lovely dogs ,so lovely they had a dogs water bowl on there table ,the dogs sat on the seats next to there owners ,and even due to the fact that the owners put dog blankets on the seats ,the dogs just walked over the seats ,I do believe that the dogs found the tables ok for there use ,but call my old fashioned it was not acceptable to me and my wife ,please note iam not saying anything detrimental about the dogs they felt at home ,you may ask the question why I ordered the meals in this situation, one reason is that my wife does not like confrontation,so I kept my mouth shut ,the meal my wife wanted was not available so she chose another ,I chose Irish burgers Wow wow What a pile of rubbish ,mind you the dogs kept looking over at them ,but iam not cruel I love dogs ,would not like the vet bills if they ate them The icing on the cake was when my wife went for the salt she picked it up and low and behold they had not put the bottom on ,this in due course allowed the salt to pour out from the bottom ,method in there mad ness more salt kills the taste no complaints This is fact oh and do not drink the beer unless you like warm flat ale
