The Hunting Lodge in North Tyneside

Started off with drinks in the bar where there was a lovely atmosphere and then went through to the lounge for our Christmas meal where the tables were set out beautifully. The food was exceptional and plentiful with extra gravy on offer. Absolute compliments to the chef who cooked our meals to perfection. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who even did table service for our drinks. We all commented on how lovely our meal was and had a truly special day. Well done to everyone at the Hunting Lodge.

I was at the Hunting Lodge for my Christmas Lunch today with some good friends of mine. The room was nice and cosy and the staff were brilliant as ever. The food was amazing, I had the turkey with roasties etc, It was cooked to perfection and there was a lot of it, I was feeling full when I was about two thirds of the way through it but it tasted so good I just had to clear the plate. My huge compliments to the chef. All in all a great Christmas Day.

Such a lovely little venue. Always feel so welcomed and looked after by the staff. Food and drinks are always great and good value too. Never a complaint

This establishment has really gone up in my estimations over the past year or so. Great place for a meal or a drink with the friendliest staff going

First of all this place needs refurbishing. It was cold and dreary. The food was not at all nice. Well overcooked crispy prawns, so much so they had to be cracked open. The salmon was ok but had slimy skin and was served with an unappetizing splodge of mash and a bit of broccoli, the sauce was tasteless. The Christmas pudding was awful, soft and slimy in the mouth with the smallest amount of custard. Won't be going back.

We come here quite regularly and have never been disappointed. Great food great staff and fantastic value . Manager has just won Manager of The Year award too. Well done Michael Lamb.

Regularly attend the quiz here on a Thursday night and have a bite to eat too. The food is always fantastic and excellent value for money. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the quiz is really fun! Would 100 % recommend.

We hired the Hunting Lodge for a funeral wake for about 50 guests. The manager and staff were very friendly and helpful. They assisted with setting up a tv for our slide show and advised on our menu choices and options for a buffet for our guests. The food was excellent and the room was just right for our function. Highly recommend hiring this venue.

If you are looking for an excellent lunch at a bargain price, then look no further. When we went for lunch, the food was superb, the surroundings very pleasant and the service excellent. I cannot fault our experience, and would recommend a visit most wholeheartedly. Absolutely superb!

Another venue in North Tyneside. Again we'd been to visit a relative in Cullercoats and called here for lunch before returning home. We were both surprised to see it was part of the same chain of pubs as the Monkseaton Arms I reviewed recently. So in fairness I opted for the Jerk Chicken Skewers to see if they matched up to the ones served by their neighbours and it definitely did. However, the other half who opted for the Gammon wasn't as impressed stating the meat was a bit to tough and chewy. Service was prompt and they even had waitress service for your drinks, which was a pleasant surprise. All in all it was a satisfactory visit and could see us return at some point in the future.

A lovely place to visit with family especially the lounge area. Great value food which tastes great. I recommend the belly pork! A good selection of children's meals also. They often have offers in the app too. The bar area is dog friendly and has plenty of TVs and big screens to watch all the sport.

Firstly I'm well versed on how reviewing badly works. Even when you've got every right to give a bad review the excuses are usually rife in the response. Secondly I don't review badly unless there's very good reason! We don't go here that often but we have been going for the last few years. The main reason is as it's local and convenient when pushed for time on an evening. To be honest I blame ourselves for being daft enough to keep going. It's ok if you're after some drinks, I mean it's not exactly the most atmospheric place and the staff can be pretty miserable. It's ok for a couple before moving on somewhere else.However if you want food! Pfff good luck with that one lol. The place is pathetically managed and the service is on and off flaky. I've genuinely lost count now how many occasions we've had a bad experience. Like I say we go when we don't have time to go elsewhere and are a bit skint. I don't recall a time when they've had everything we wanted in stock. Given we don't go that often but it's like every single time. There's been a few times we've been (again over the years) and they're not doing food full stop! We actually frequent a fair few Sizzlers and I've got to say they're way better over the water for some reason? The Grange and The Hollymere in Sunderland, The County in South Shields. Even The Bay Horse in Cramlington is miles better. I decided to write this review after last week we went along and got the vaguest look from the member of staff when asking if they were doing food. Turned out no they were just too busy lol. You couldn't make it up LOL! Restaurant stops doing food because they're too busy. It just seems very poorly managed and I doubt we'll bother anymore. Like I say there's some sort of problem every single time. From having to ask for a cloth to wipe a table, to tables being full of pint glasses and having to clear a table ourselves. To never having the items in stock to not serving food. Of course at this point you kind of realise it's a bit too coincidental when it's 100% of our visits when we've had some form of problem. Well Hunting Lodge you'd do well to visit some of the other Sizzlers that seem to be able to manage a pub/restaurant properly. Had high hopes after the refurb but I think we'll go the bit further to the Fox Hunters grill from now on.

Myself and my partner visited the Hunting Lodge on Friday and have to say, the new menu looks lovely :) The only critisism I have, is I had the crispy beef dish, which was delicious, bar one element. I was given a bowl of dry, boiled rice which was bland. I was given a jug of sweet chilli sauce, but still didnt make the rice exciting :) I think a nice bowl of chilli or flavoured noodles would have been a much nicer accompaniment. Just my opinion and on the whole, the meal was lovely and i would definitely have it again. Thank You.

My daughter who is Vegan chose this venue due to lack of other Pubs having a varied menu for all dietary requirements.Her choice Sweet Potato cottage pie and New Caramel iced bar, were very good (her only critism was portion size of the cottage pie-she said she could have eaten 2)I had fish and chips with mushy peas- which again was very good (good portion size)The service and staff very good.Would I recommend-yesWill I return-definitely

Came in with the family & had a lovely meal as always. We love the big table at the bay window, nice and cosy for the full family!

Great place to take the grandkids after school/during half term. They love the build your own sundae’s and it’s cheap as chips with the meal deal. There’s even a little station for them with books, toys and a little table to colour at. Staff are always friendly and welcoming and it’s always a good pint too. Would recommend the steaks also, myself and my wife always have the black and blue and it’s always cooked just how we like. Thanks!

Extensive menu, fairly priced and the staff were welcoming and pleasant. With two meals for £9 you really can’t go wrong & the portion sizes were more than adequate. We will definitely return!

We normally come here for breakfast which is good and cheap but went for a meal

The three of us had burgers - all of a different variety. One was a traditional burger, one was a chicken burger and the other a beef burger topped with pulled pork. The burgers are all very reasonably priced and include a soft drink or you can pay an extra £1 for a pint of lager. We all cleaned our plates. And thoroughly enjoyed everything. We will definitely be going back again soon.

The range of menu options was extensive and at a price hard to beat. Three out of four mains were very good, while one was a bit tough. Our desserts were also very good value.

The hunting lodge is based in Monkseaton among a few other local pubs. I’d say the Hunting lodge is one of the best to visit!

I visited this pub a couple of weeks back with some family and friends and was absolutely shocked at the quality of service and the lack of respect the bar staff have for their regular customers.

At change from a tenner for lunch for two, I cannot imagine better value. All food was freshly cooked to order, came quickly and was well presented by a friendly, yet unobtrusive staff. Lunch at The Hunting Lodge was a faultless experience, and makes one wonder just how it is possible to provide highly palatable meals at such a reasonable cost.

We've been to the Hunting Lodge a few times and it never disappoints. It cooks some of the best steak in the region and all at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the service is good. Today we had surf and turf and it was quality. And the vegetarian dish was lovely according to my vegetarian daughter.

Called in here last Saturday for a quick bite , were just expecting usual pub chain food and atmosphere. Upon getting in we were pleasantly surprised. Despite having a recent makeover it feels more like an old local, we chose to dine in the bar area. Staff and regulars were friendly. Food was excellent for the price, portions were a good size and drinks were reasonably priced . If you log into the pubs website they also offer a £5 discount off your food bill at the moment.

I visited here with my family on a Thursday evening, the decor is lovely however there is a awful smell which seems to enter the lounge from the toilet area. The bar staff aren’t overly friendly or helpful, one of our drinks was served in a filthy glass with black bits floating in it, this was obviously replaced but there was no apology.

We went for a lunch time meal and decided for the Hunting Lodge as we knew it had been recently refurbished. We were not disappointed the staff were friendly and our meal was delicious and good value for money. Will definitely return.

Took my dad for fathers day breakfast. Had to wait nearly 40 minutes for our food which part of it was cold & the onions with the potatoe hash was burnt to a cinder. bearing in mind there was only us & 1 other table occupied god knows how it took so long. The unlimited tea & coffee station had no hot water, no cups & no milk! Asked for no beans on one of the breakfasts but they don't ask if you want anything instead unlike other places. Not cheap, will be going back to Red lion, just thought we would give someehere else a try but wish we hadnt. We wont be back

We visit The Hunting Lodge a lot and tonight the food and service was the best ever. Joe and Natalie behind the bar were welcoming, friendly and helpful and the meals were all excellent. Great little pub. Food is great value for money. Always tasty. Only negative is they have reduced parking space for outdoor area. Apart from that, well worth a visit.

We stopped off for breakfast on our way back home after a week in Whitby and we must say the food and service was exceptional, it is a great pity we did not find The Hunting Lodge earlier in the week as I would not have needed to have done breakfasts in the caravan. Big thank you to all concerned for a great visit.

I have had many meals out with my better half in both this country and abroad but I concede the Hunting Lodge is the best by far.

Went in for a burger and the food was served quickly and was good value for money with a nice friendly atmosphere.

Ordered fish and chips and half roast chicken - fish and chips came the size of a children's portion the roast chicken was more like a roast sparrow ..and cost nearly £8 plus each, when escalated to bar staff response was ah sorry yea had a few Complaints about the size of the fish for a while now as their suppliers are at fault!!!! Then change suppliers or challenge the contract use have with them.

6 of us went for tea, it was not a special occasion but it felt like it because of the way we were treated by the staff at the Hunting Lodge. The meals were well advise and described by the staff and brought to us well presented. The drinks as well as the meals were of very good standard and very good value, although "pub grub" we all felt well satisfied with our visit. We will certainly be going back and look forward to it.

What’s going on? Clearly staff not on duty drinking in the bar absolutely hammered and shouting at the top of their voices about various sex acts and telling people where to go. Used to be a good bar but at this rate it will be closed in months. Other customers sitting looking very uncomfortable.

Took the family here for our dinner and it was fantastic as always. The staff went out if there way to make sure we had everything we needed. As always we really enjoyed it and will definite be back.

I visited the new hunting lodge because I had heard it had changed and what a change it’s had ! The decor the staff the atmosphere and the food are all fantastic now compared to what it used to be like. I stopped going a couple of years ago as it was atrocious but now I will definitely be back WELL DONE new hunting lodge.

We visited this pub this afternoon and stayed until this evening. we were made to feel welcome as soon as we reached the bar ! The staff were lovely and gave us a warm welcome. Had drinks with friends and ordered when we all were ready to. We were never hassled to order as I have felt in some other places . When we ordered it was with a swift and professional touch ! Only waited about 20 mins for our food which was excellent considering everything was obviously freshly prepared ! I ordered rump steak which was cooked to perfection! There was no complaints from our table of 6. Food was 5* and staff and service matched! Very well done !! I will recommend this pub to everyone I know !

Ordered an omelette for myself and my friends ordered the breakfast , there's looked fab everyone enjoyed it , except for me that is the menu said two open cheese omelettes piled high with spinach and a fresh tomato and red onion salsa with sliced mushroom . What arrived was nothing like the menu described . One omelette with no spinach , no salsa, unless you can call a bit of chopped raw onion salsa , first time I have tried the hunting lodge and will most definitely be my last .

Called in last night for a few drinks after work. The beer was good and the staff were all really friendly, this pub is not local to me but is defiantly worth the effort of going out my way to visit. We usually get food too but didn't on this occasion but the food is always good with a wide range to choose from.

I am a frequent visitor to the Hunting Lodge, more so since it reopened. It has a much more relaxed atmosphere now and I no longer feel like I’m going into a working men’s club. I have had food a couple of time and I have always found the food to be very good value for money and I have found the staff to be very accommodating. On reading some of the negative comments I am actually wondering if they are reviewing the right pub?

I go to the newly refurbished Hunting Lodge on a regular basis, the service is always excellent, the staff are always happy and greet you with a smile and a hello, the interior of the pub is so much more inviting than before.

I have been to this pub on 5 occasions and I always have a burger but I have NEVER had an offer of a soft drink as it says on the menu.

After such a lovely Xmas meal I thought I'd treat the wife to lunch at the hunting lodge. Yet again I can do nothing but praise the staff and quality of the food. My every request was met and nothing was s problem. This has become without a doubt the best place for food I have been to in a very long time.

We were passing the newly refurbished Hunting Lodge Whitley Bay on our way home and decided to pop in for lunch and give it a try.

Very surprised. Excellent food. Staff friendly, but what a treat no loud music. So nice to have a normal conversation. Warm cosy and comfortable . Definitely will be back

We came in for some food and a couple of drinks the other day, the food was lovely and was really good priced even my nephew ate every pick which was a surprise because he can be picky sometimes.The staff were very polite and came over to the table to ask if everything was okay which I thought was very nice because not many places do that now, would definitely recommend a visit even just for a drink as there is plenty chose from and it looks a million times better since it’s been done out.

Visited late Saturday for food, although it was busy, we were severed quickly and the food arrived promptly and was cooked to perfection. There was colouring available and a selection of toys to keep the kinds entertained for the short time we waited for food. The beer was great and the January gin deal even better. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

On a visit to Whitley Bay over the Christmas break, we looked for a comfortable pub with good grub. We found it in the Hunting Lodge. There was good parking and it was reasonably close to Whitley Bay main centre. The menu was nicely varied, and between us we had a selection of meals, such as steak, mixed grill, chicken, and fish, plus children's food. Overall the food was excellent and above average for a local pub, plus extremely reasonable in price. The service was warm and friendly, and the food brought in good time. All we can do is recommend the place, if this type of eatery is what you are seeking.

Called in on a Saturday evening for food. Other half had all day breakfast. Unfortunately the sausages were black and the bacon tasted burnt. I opted for the messy Mexican chicken as it sounded quite interesting. There were meant to be crushed nachos on top of the chicken - I tasted a tiny crunch. That was then meant to be topped by chilli. It must have had the slightest smear of chilli across it as I couldn’t see or taste it, although there were a few kidney beans. The corn on the cob was meant to be fajita spiced but was absolutely plain. Ordered side order of sweet potato fries (good job too as otherwise I’d have been starving) - but noted that another pub within this chain serves double the size for the same price! I would have mentioned all this had someone asked us how our meal was but no one came near us after serving the food. Disappointed.

My family and I spent Christmas day in the Hunting Lodge for the 3rd year running after last year's dismal meal we were not going to return but decided to give the new management a chance to see if there was any improvement which there has to be after last year. Upon entering we were greeted by the manager joanne and straight away made to feel welcome. The atmosphere was upbeat and the presentation of tables etc was superb and made it feel like Christmas day. Our meals were excellent piping hot and well presented what a change from last year. We were well attended too by pleasant attentive staff who clearly felt at ease and were enjoying their jobs. It is without doubt one of the best Christmas days we have spent with good food good company and great atmosphere alike. Roll on next Christmas we have already pre booked and no doubt we will be making numerous visits throughout the year due to this experience.

This year we decided to go to the newly refurbished hunting lodge for our lunch, as it is my birthday too the staff went the extra mile to make my day extra special. The food was delicious and we couldn't of asked more of the staff as they were brilliant and we're always on hand to fulfill our requests.Without a doubt I will be booking for next Christmas and I'm sure I will be there many times in the future.

Have been a regular at the Hunting Lodge for many years and always enjoyed good food and fab xmas lunches. However this year the food and service was awful. We waited 45 mins for starter then almost an hour for turkey main course. The dinner was wizened and the turkey was just a few scraps accompanied by cheap frozen veg. Awful awful and never again

I went to this pub with my grandma for a nice meal, and even though the place was busy staff were pleasant and efficient,. We were seen to and had our order taken very quickly by a polite member of staff who then apologised for any possible delays, even though this was not necessary for we could see they were busy. When our food arrived it was cooked to perfection, it was so flavoursome and enjoyable, As we Were leaving we were thanked for our visit and wished a nice day, manners make such a difference. Me and my partner decided to give the new refurbished Pub a go and we were not disappointed at all. We were served by a lady called Natalie and she was so friendly and polite and always went that extra mile. We ordered two steaks and they came as we asked (to be fair 1 of the best steaks I've had!!) The food used to be awful from here!! The new manager has turned this place around for the upmost better as it used to be a dive! Nice to see the staff happy So proud to call this my new local now
