We didn't personally sit in on the coffee shop as we were grabbing two coffees to go en route through the pouring rain. The place was heaving! The clientele looked happy and there was a nice local vibe to the place. However, my cappuccino was lukewarm at best although my wife's latte was spot on. I'd like to try them as a sit down experience as they look really good but I can only judge this experience on a tepidly heated cappuccino alas.

Staff seem lovely. Setting lovely. Once the the quality and presentation of the food is addressed everything will be lovely. Two orders: Fried eggs on toast. Wafer thin bread. Luke warm rather small eggs. Finished off with two very small ice cold butter portions slapped on the plate. Cheese and onion toasty. Same standard as fried eggs on toast. I do not cook and so appreciate any effort that is put in by others to making eating out a pleasurably experience. Feeling I left with was why are they bothering if they are not interested in food then do something else. .

I used to come here regularly but I'm afraid today will be my last visit. Ordered the Ploughman's but got what resembled a pot luck salad. I think it is fair to expect some British cheeses, crusty bread and pickles. What I actually got was a stale cheap bread bun, wedge of brie, soft pork pie, overcooked boiled egg and some extremely acidic pickle. I did complain but was told "that was the way they do a ploughman's. That's rather like advertising a steak but serving a beef burger. Rest of the table's food was pretty mediocre With the fierce cafe competition on Park View you need to update your game considerably.

We were staying nearby in whitley bay caravan park and researched for afternoon tea nearby. Because nothing inside was open I wanted a delivery. This place stood out for the reasons they delivered and the amazing price. We received a delicious afternoon tea which was 5 star in quality/taste/selection/delivery and price. I will shout from the rooftops how AMAZING this was. Staff were lovely to deal with throughout. Keep up the GREAT WORK to all at 129 coffee shop. 👏👏👏👏👏

A lovely traditional tea room with a good range of home made food. I just opted for coffee and a scone from the impressive selection. Coffee is also excellent. All the food looked delicious and I'm looking forward to trying something more substantial next time.

This place must be good, it is nearly always full. They serve a large variety of scones cakes and sweets In addition to various savoury dishes My friends and I meet there on a regular basis, have a coffee and a scone and put the world to rights. Whenever my wife and I are in Whitley Bay we head to the 129 Coffee Shop for refreshments. They offer a wide selection of sandwiches, toasties, jackets, scones and cakes: all at very sensible prices. You even get a top-up on your filter coffee. A very pleasant interlude in between walking along the promenade and doing the shopping. Recommended.

We visited this cafe after having a lovely walk. The cafe was buzzing with a really nice atmosphere. We took a seat and looked at the menu. There was lots of choice and we both decided on a toastie, followed by a scone. The tea arrived within a few minutes, followed by the toasties. They were served with crisps and a lovely little side salad. I know it was only a toastie, but it was very tasty and hot. When they cleared the plates away they asked if we wanted our scones or if we would like to wait a while. The scones were homemade and were Sultana and blueberry. They were soft and served at room temperature so perfect in my opinion. Even with a full cafe, the service was excellent. Will definitely be going back.

It was my 1st visit to 129, with my parents, who have regularly visited over the years, partaking of the home cooked, great value lunches, coffee and cakes. Everyone was sincerely welcoming and the food was great. Don’t expect slate, distressed timbers and Edison lamps and you won’t expect high prices and microwaved produce. As we left my parents were thanked for their regular custom. I’m not AA Gill, I wish I had his vocabulary but he wouldn’t be critical here. The place may change if it passes ownership. Happy retirement.

We pass here regularly but have never entered. The coffee was served lovely and hot, the scones were delicious. However this could not be described as a modern establishment. It is more of a traditional type place. No 'buzz' about the place. To me it wasn't the same enjoyable experience at trendier places. Small complaint is if you buy a scone you have to pay extra if you want jam as well

First off the food is delicious, all the staff except one was really very friendly, people usually say the younger people are the most less likely to be helpful but that wasn't the case here.four of us went for lunch and the lady that served us was very abrupt not only with us but with another two customers in fact one person called her frosty face which we found quite funny but true. The lady in question had short grey hair and she had a striped top on if she reads this she will know who she is ,but that won't stop us going back ,the choice of the menu is amazing and good value for your money. This lady needs to learn her people skills

First visit to this cafe, only called for a coffee but had a scone after seeing the choice and price. Four types of cheese scone( plain, with onion and bacon, leek, onion and olives), also fruit, lemon, apple and ginger, cherry and almond each costing £1.20. We had the apple and ginger which was obviously homemade, really tasty and a good size.Cannot remember when we last paid so little, you normally expect to pay at least £1.80.Also had a regular coffee which cost £1.35 which was not in a very big cup but was surprised when the waiter gave us a refill. Also do sandwiches, cakes and a specials board of hot meals. Will definitely give this another try.

Food as usual is always good. Tynemouth is our usual haunt as we reside there however whenever we are in Whitley Bay, 129 Park View is the place to go for tea and scone/cake.Today i visited with my mum well after lunchtime so the place wasn't busy. A couple of occupied tables but visually, plenty of floor staff. I politely asked a passing waitress for a refill filter coffee even offering to take my coffee cup up to the counter. I was told quite rudely that someone would get round to it when they had the time. She went on to clear one table then laugh and joke behind the counter with other staff members totally ignoring my request. After a good 10 minutes of waiting i then asked the young male assistant for a refill and he promptly attended to this. This isnt the sort of attitude i expect as a paying customer and i suggest this individual has a lesson in how to behave to the general public.

This is something of an institution in Whitley Bay. I’m not sure if 129 is the address or the year it started!!!!It must be 4 or 5 years since I last went in but they still recognised me.It is still going strong for a reason – it is very good.A large range of sandwiches, cakes, scones etc etc and all the expected drinks in an open and airy building with 2 rooms (at least) and spotlessly clean. Some cake, a scone and a pot of tea was only around £5.50 so very good value for money. The scone was a “breakfast scone” (there were many other scones) and it sounded like a Full English in a scone! It was very nice warmed up.It can get very busy for the above reasons.Service was very quick.Thoroughly recommended.

No 129 is a true delight! A typically English Tearoom/Coffee Shop, immaculately clean nicely furnished and a warm welcome to all. This was our first visit to No 129 as we are not frequent visitors to Whitley Bay however it will not be our last.Ample choice on the 'Specials Menu' and spoilt for choice on the set menu. It is advertised Home Made and they don't disappoint. Well filled freshly made sandwiches made to order and spoilt for choice!! The scones, pastries and cakes are freshly baked daily and are irresistible. Nothing 'plastic' in this little tea shop. Very popular with the local residents and a delight to the day tripper.Ok the service is not instant but why would it be. No pre wrapped sandwiches and chocolate bars here. A definite must for us on future trips to Whitley Bay.

If you order just a coffee/tea you are given a complimentary Nice biscuit. This is really nice. Why, then, is the biscuit not offered with the drink when food is ordered, too?. Surely, this is discrimination in that the person buying food with their drink should be charged less for their coffee/tea? But, no. We were told that as we had ordered scones we could not have the complimentary biccies. We decided that the way round this would be to order a drink (and get the biscuit), then order a scone later. This is not fair. People ordering food with their drinks are paying more than customers ordering just a drink.Having just been to Hexham recently and given a generous portion of butter in a little dish to accompany our scones in the Abbey Refectory Cafe, why are customers charged 20p for an extra portion of butter at 129? The scones are lovely, but need just that little extra butter.I believe that it's 30p for an extra tiny jug of milk which seems exorbitant as Iceland charges only 89p for 4 pints.I'm sure we will return to 129 when next we visit our friends in Whitley Bay but perhaps a generosity of spirit would not be amiss.

Loving the thriving cafe scene in Whitley at the minute so many great offerings new and old. shame to see this tea room deliver such a poor bacon sandwich, at a pricey £3.10 too. Two rashers of barely cooked pink and white bacon on a cheap bun. I felt very disgruntled to say the least. It is somewhere i have been visiting for years but only for a cup of tea with my children. never sampled past the scones. After recently sampling The Roxburghs bacon bad sandwich there is no competition. They should maybe take a leaf out of their generous book. The plus side was that it is lovely and warm.

When to the Red Lion for dinner, staff very pleasant, bar area nice and spacious and generally clean ,that’s where it ends ,myself and wife sat at table no 42 facing the corner opposite, where four dogs were congratulating with there owners ,lovely dogs ,so lovely they had a dogs water bowl on there table ,the dogs sat on the seats next to there owners ,and even due to the fact that the owners put dog blankets on the seats ,the dogs just walked over the seats ,I do believe that the dogs found the tables ok for there use ,but call my old fashioned it was not acceptable to me and my wife ,please note iam not saying anything detrimental about the dogs they felt at home ,you may ask the question why I ordered the meals in this situation, one reason is that my wife does not like confrontation,so I kept my mouth shut ,the meal my wife wanted was not available so she chose another ,I chose Irish burgers Wow wow What a pile of rubbish ,mind you the dogs kept looking over at them ,but iam not cruel I love dogs ,would not like the vet bills if they ate them The icing on the cake was when my wife went for the salt she picked it up and low and behold they had not put the bottom on ,this in due course allowed the salt to pour out from the bottom ,method in there mad ness more salt kills the taste no complaints This is fact oh and do not drink the beer unless you like warm flat ale

Visit this pub frequently with family and live in forest hall. It’s a lovely pub and we always call in for a drink on a nice day when walking the dogs. They’re friendly and welcoming to all of us, and we always get what we want. It’s a pub, so you get what you bargain for - we normally get two pints of Stella, and large glass of wine and a fruity cider of some sort. We usually get like snacky food to share, nothing too high end. Anybody giving this pub a low rating, for honestly can’t understand why (unless they really dislike dogs). There isn’t a waiter, it’s all bar service, but it’s honestly lovely and always and the staff are always more than happy to help
