The most underrated spot in Tynemouth for food - much better tapas than anywhere on front street, all for a far better price. Great variety and clearly fresh. Cosy atmosphere with an open fire by the bar and great service. Always nice coming in just for a drink too.

Came here for Sunday lunch. This place really needs to up its vegetarian game as so many people are veggie these days. There was no vegetarian option available due to the kitchen not having ordered anything. We ended up having quiche instead. No good if we were vegan. Such a shame as the vegetables were pretty decent. But no one wants to have a Sunday dinner that’s just veg! Also no custard available to go with sponge pudding for desert. Alright to have laminated menus but if half the options aren’t available it defeats the object.

Unexpected wow! We shared 3 Tapas and a bottle of wine for only £26!! The tapas were excellent, great flavours, freshly cooked, homemade and generous portions! Definitely worth checking out!! Hoisan pulled pork pancakes, delicious! Thai fish cakes, with real fish, definitely homemade, really good! Harrissa lamb patties excellent! Chickpea and sweet potato Goan coconut curry, lovely! I've been back weekly!

Having eaten here lots over the years I was disappointed today. The tapas is our usual go to, although we went for Sunday lunch today. Pulled beef brisket Chicken on the bone Pork belly Mince pie What’s happened to a Sunday roast, we all chose the brisket, none of us were impressed. It was stringy and plonked on top of mash.Sorry but it’s not great, I wondered why we could get in without booking. We will not be back on a Sunday. Sadly.

Went to the Dolphin Inn for the tapas deal and we weren't disappointed! We chose the haddock goujons, mushroom Welsh rarebit and the honey haloumi, with slaw and chips on the side, washed down with a bottle of shiraz. Such good value for money and oh my goodness, it was lovely! Highly recommend this place, the staff are great, the atmosphere is good and the food is tip top.

Great to have the chance to visit this pub again. Always a warm welcome, and surely the best pub food for miles around. Traditional such as fish and chips, burger, hot stottie, posh king prawn scampi plus great tapas, including Korean chicken, bao buns, Vietnamese patties (great tapas plus drink deal!). All perfectly cooked. Menu frequently changed. Find an excuse to go!

Attended the quiz on a Tuesday night. The quiz was really good fun. The half time food was decent. Prices were good overall an enjoyable night.

Food was absolutely great,fresh,hot and tasty.

Have been here many times for Sunday lunch over the years but sadly after recent visit was not impressed. No roast beef, Turkey or lamb. Instead slow cooked brisket {cheaper cut of meat} with yorkshire pudding was the only choice apart from chicken but it wasn't clear if it was a breast or what. Corned beef pie, minced beef and dumplings, £13 really ! the brisket was pulled but was like eating string, and swimming in gravy which we found to be very salty, no more little gravy jugs. Could do better !

Food was spot on but dogs on furniture is a put off especially on the tables

Definitely recommend this pub. I’ve eaten here twice recently, December and January, both times the food has been really good. They serve traditional pub grub but it’s prepared fresh and cooked on the premises and tastes like homemade. The service is excellent, even when there has been a very large group of us and the staff are friendly, efficient and very helpful. Great local pub.

** Dog friendly?????? .... popped in for a quick drink this afternoon. No room in the main bar so was told there was a table in the snug. Had my 2 dogs with me and we sat down. There was another dog in there so mine barked to say hello. We had literally not even taken our coats off, when this person piped up with "I don't want those dogs barking when I'm having my dinner". He was so rude and aggressive that we were not going to sit in a pub with that kind of clientele. BTW.. its a dog freindly pub with a separate restaurant... so why didn't you sit in there you ignorant prick! Will never go back again.

Called in on Sunday for Lunch..Unplanned. As never being in there before.,Was greeted with a warm welcome even so we didn't book.. As we where the first customers in,We got a seat and ordered our meals Nice Sunday Roast.. Got to say it was lovely.. Must mention the staff for the excellent service......

Food was way above expectations. Freshly cooked, amazing flavours. Unassuming decor. Welcoming friendly staff.

Walk in on a very rainy day without a booking and the staff were lovely. They found us a table in the bar which fine by us. We ordered 2 Sunday lunches, lamb and beef. Food was cooked to perfection. All home made veg and a huge Yorkshire pudding. Couldn't fault our meal. Only complaint was that we had no room for pudding. Would definitely recommend booking. We will be back.

Sunday lunch was quality. Great service and friendly staff too.

Very disappointing service, order was not correct, server shrugged shoulders. When mentioned to the manager who said "I'll promise you it'll be better next time" but no offer of compensation as we still paid the bill. Bad hospitality considering we recently moved into the area and have lots of visitors. Fortunately there are much better places to frequent within walking distance.

Been here for Sunday lunch three times now and every time the food is a very high standard very delicious, reasonable priced and good sized portions. The staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome would recommend to anyone

Fabulous Sunday dinner! Great food, service and value. Can highly recommend. So glad I booked a table as very busy but food arrived quickly, lots of fresh vegetables and lovely desserts.

Been here several times because it's a friendly local pub that serves good home-cooked food with specials during the day for mains and all day for a tapas/wine deal.

Just had Sunday lunch here with my husband. We both opted for the roast beef, the whole dinner was absolutely delicious with plenty of meat and beautifully seasoned vegetables covered in very tasty gravy,this was our first visit here but won't be the last.

Attended a funeral wake. Friendly staff and they put on an excellent buffet.

We have called into the dolphin on a number of occasions either for a cheeky pint or 2 and some food and usual food and drinks come with pleasant and quick service as normal and again last night (thursday) food and drink served with speed and smiles although must say coujons were a little darker than normal tased lovely but a little too crisp for me, but my partner was eating them and she was fine to have them a little toastie otherwise a lovely night out and met some nice people good friendly pub and nice atmosphere

We were served large portions of hot food when dining here for Sunday lunch today. The roast pork (with all the trimmings) was moist and the hot beef sandwich (served alongside potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and a serving of gravy) went down very well. Service was spot on too - it’s so good to visit an establishment where the staff know what they are doing.

It was top notch. In my eyes they are the best sunday dinner around !! But i went with an old pal of mine for lunch maybe tuesday.. and it was equally amazing :) he had the shin beef stew and i had the posh scampi and it was the best date we've ever had since 2019 thankyou the dolphin crew X

Having just been here for a family wake, we found the staff very friendly and proffesional. The food was exceptional, especially the chilli, highly recommended. Would strongly recommend this place for any event. A pleasure.

Unfortunately, a private function was being held in the restaurant, but there was a warm welcome in the bar and snug, which were quite comfortable. Service was friendly and efficient and prices were reasonable. Home made mince pie with shortcrust pastry was delicious; a generous portion with chips and peas. There is a good tapas offer with wine - the prawns with chilli were excellent. The car park is very small, but there is space for parking on the road. Is this a problem for nearby residents? I look forward to visiting again and enjoying a meal in the restaurant.

We stayed in North Shields / Tyne-mouth for a weekend and passed the dolphin a couple of times going to the beach. Thankfully we stopped had a look at the menu and sampled the beer - fantastic food, great beer and such VFM. Friendly run pub which. Is clearly v popular. Well done

Haven't been to the Dolphin for a long. Thought we would pop in before we went to Tynemouth Festival and couldn't be more happier at the service. Staff were so friendly and went out of there way to help. I had fish and chips, food was amazing. Might be a bit pricey but it's definitely worth it. Will a million % be going back

We go to the Dolphin Quiz ,which is great ,and even better are the STAFF,who take your order from the tables . They are so efficient ,friendly and really add to friendly ambience at the Dolphin . 3 cheers for the bar staff . !!!

Great friendly local pub nice staff and really good food and excellent value with a good selection of beers and lagers perfectly kept.

Finally managed to get in to try the Sunday lunch after a few recommendations. Really enjoyed it. I went for mixed meats & whilst you usually get a smaller portion of everything, I ended up with loads of all 4 meats on offer that day. No complaints!

I enjoy popping in for a couple of drinks now and again. Nice to see the fire going these days over the winter and fair price for drinks. My only gripe would be that (personally) i don't think having daytime TV on is necessary -...

A popular pub not far from Tynemouth Village. Large restaurant area at the rear and bar at the front. Meals must be OK as there are always a few people in for food the 5 or 6 times we've been in, and popular times you'll struggle to get a seat in the bar. Staff are on the ball for your drinks. Small carpark at the rear.
