Excellent service, great views and food.

Lovey breakfast, lovey setting. What more could you ask for

Unfortunately very rude and flustered manager ruined this family outing. Such a shame as this is a really nice cafe on a lovely marina. Maybe needs some training in how to be pleasant to customers.

The setting of the marina is lovely, nicely decorated inside with plenty of seats inside and out. We ordered the lock English breakfast, and an eggs Benedict. Didn’t take long for the food however we got our food before our drinks which were a Pepsi and an iced coffee. I didn’t realise until after we left but they left my hash browns off my breakfast, other than that the breakfast was nice, cooked well and presented well also. My partner did enjoy his eggs Benedict but would have preferred if the muffins were toasted. We would come again but probably try lunch next time :)

Brilliant friendly service, smart venue very nautical full marks. Long way to walk from the Royal quays, SHOULD BE A BUS that goes to the Marina, next time a go am getting a taxi.

The location and service are amazing. I had the crispy duck flatbread which was okay. The table next to us had the fish and chips which looked amazing I had buyers remorse after seeing them 🤤

Great place. Met some friends for lunch and there was a large selection. Lovely home cooked food. I had the paella which was tasty. Pizza wraps looked pretty good too.

Went for light lunch and it didn't disappoint! Lush setting on the marina overlooking all the yachts. Lovely outside seating areas. Inside is decorative and stylish. The menu is varied offering coffee n cake - tapas - full blown meals - good value wine selection too! A lovely spot and walking distance from the north shields fish quay!! Will be back with friends soon. Free parking if you put your registration in the pad at the entrance.

Had a sharing platter & tapas there yesterday afternoon - absolutely delicious!!!! Friendly staff, beautiful views. Such a shame they close at 5pm on a Sunday - would be the perfect location to watch the evening unfold.

Come here often but today’s breakfast was amazing and I can’t get over how fast the service was, we had our breakfast within 5 minutes. Sat outside, lovely vibes and lush coffee. Highly recommend, staff are lovely too

Came for breakfast and looked forward to some lovely home made American style pancakes, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement, they were store bought and came stone cool with warm bacon and syrup not realising they were cold till we tucked into them, they did take them away and when they came back they had just taken them off the plate and warmed them up putting same ones back on plates …..fine I get it but at least take the one off that had been cut into to at least look like it’s a fresh batch !

Not one of the best meals, the plate was covered in oil. Took three napkins to mop it up. Services was fantastic as always.

Great location. Sitting outside better than inside. Staff have tge music too loud and the acoustics echo with voices vs music.

Visited here twice in a few weeks, first time was brilliant , really busy atmosphere, nice coffee and cake. Second time with my son, we asked for 2 take out coffees only to be told they only did table service, we took a table and waited 10 mins while it wasn't busy, several members of staff walked past, other people got served at the counter and left. So we got up and left.

Great staff, excellent outdoor sitting area with beautiful views over the marina to enjoy a coffee, highly recommend a visit to anyone in that area.

Terrible experience last week went for breakfast at 11.30 it's supposed to be on till 12 got told they weren't serving breakfast so had to order off the main menu ordered carbonara then to be told they had no pasta or bolognaise then got told to move tables to accommodate a group of ramblers who had just walked in off the street so rude we left our drinks and walked out

Throughout my 9 years in the UK, I have visited many restaurants and pubs to try English breakfast, since it is one of my favorite foods. And I can tell you that this is the best and tastiest I have ever tasted in my entire life! It is prepared at the moment and that is why you feel that each element in this dish is freshly made. I will definitely come back, and come back , and come back. Great attention, everyone is so attentive. And special thanks to Diana. I hope to see her again on my next visits, her attention is unmatched. Thank you!!

Amazing atmosphere and great view. Outside dogs friendly and they have water for dogs and small food menu as well.

The Sunday lunch was just OK Nothing amazing - frozen roasts , Luke warm including the gravy. There was not much taste and the gravy was a bit gloupy and sweet. Could be improved if it was served hotter and served with a diffrent gravy and butter added in the veg & mash. The staff were lovely though

The car park directly attached to the lock is poorly signposted and I've just received a £170 car parking fine in the post, as such I won't be returning despite the wonderful location. There should be some signposting near the establishment itself, or at least have the staff members mention it to you when you order. Absolutely ridiculous. If I knew it as a payment car park I'd have happily paid but genuinely had no idea you needed to pay, or even see any payment machines or signage.

Standing waiting to order and the girl behind the till made us wait whilst doing 100 other jobs and there was another 2 staff standing doing nothing . Food was really nice but the cheap sauce they had was horrible.

Popped down today for a takeaway brunch with my son. I had what was quite possibly the best ever (Cumberland) sausage and (Danish) bacon bap with some very moreish hash browns and he had the southern fried chicken wrap with sriracha mayo and sweet potato fries. All eaten in the car whilst enjoying the views 😍 Great service and so well organised.

Make sure you pay with your card. Got a takeaway coffee today and was given change of nearly 2 quid all in 10p's. Quite certain my change was incorrect as well :( Nice coffee but given my experience today grossly overpriced unfortunately

Popped in after a walk around the marina up into the dene and around the lake. Which is a hidden gem. Nice welcome and friendly staff at the Lock. We had coffees and bestest cheese scones with good views across the marina. Have had meals there before and always enjoyed them.

We always enjoy coming to The Lock. Whether it be for a quick coffee and cake stop or a family lunch, we've never been dissapointed. On our last visit I had the "soup and sandwich". The soup of the day was Lamb Broth and it was beautiful. My husband had a chicken wrap which he enjoyed. Our eldest had a pizza which he said was "amazing" and our little one had a cheese scone. We got some fries to share and they were a winner with us all. Delish. We look forward to returning soon.

This used to be our go to place for breakfast on a regular basis Visited 9/11/23 stood at door for 5minutes no one to seat us. Eventually guy came over to assisting but not very welcoming. Obviously there has been a change of hands within this business. He asked if we were having breakfast, we enquired about scones and coffee to which he pulled a face ? Fruit scone fell apart when cutting and the butter rock hard it was not spreadable Not once did a member of staff ask if everything was ok at our table. Nothing was cleared off our table I had to ask and had to go to the counter to pay and was then asked if I would like to order ? I'd been there 2 hours already? What happened to the smiling customer service that was always a pleasure to assist customers at this restaurant? Quite clearly management and staff need a lesson in friendly customer service. Nothing should be too much at the end of the day! a happy customer will be a returning customer. We will not be returning sadly. The views of the marina from this restaurant are just amazing but sadly that's all. Bring back the smiles and service please

My partner and I came here for breakfast on our way home from the ferry port. Nice selection of breakfast options - I had the veggie breakfast which was generous and tasty. The service was a little bit slow and we felt a tiny bit forgotten about at times but overall we had a good experience. The location is nice with lovely views of the marina. Good coffee too!

Was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get a table at Saturday lunchtime without a wait, which is usually very busy. I had the daily pie and mash, which was a very tasty steak pie and my wife enjoyed her scampi, commenting that it was the "fishiest" scampi she had ever had. Enjoyable experience with outstanding views over the marina.

Our walking group called in for coffee. Great we had cheese scones. Highly recommended

Wonderful place! Love the decoration and how well the staff are trained! Excellent customer service. Lovely presentation of the food and the quality was great. We were very lucky to pop in for a delicious bunch and we took home two yummy muffins for the journey home. I couldn’t finished my avocado toast so I took it for the journey. Well done for using recycled material on the take away containers

We had the breakfast menu personally a fully loaded stottie.. and it was fully loaded ...coiled Cumberland ..bacon...mushrooms beans in a tub 2 half tomatoes...and washed down with ringtons tea ..lovely staff all on hand for top ups and bits n bobs.. we visit regularly and do takeaway coffee sp we can walk the marina...

Staff went over and beyond at customer service !Sam was very welcome,made us feel at home and Gavin went out of his way to ask chefs for alternative options of food what was amazing !cocktails are 10 out of 10!and always had service with a smile !will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family as we had a great experience !

We had Sunday lunch, the veg was really tasty but the meat was overcooked, tough and tasted gamey. They also substituted ingredients in the meals without telling us and missed some items out totally. The person who served us was really good though, we complained about my mum's meal being inedible and this was removed from the bill immediately, he also gave her a free dessert and couldn't apologise enough.

We arrived to the Lock not long before they closing time but staff made us feel welcome with friendly and professional service. Unfortunately they had no food left so the staff went beyond their duties and provided for us amazing sharing platter for us . Very grateful and will definitely return in no time

A place we revisit frequently when visiting the area and walk along the harbour. The staff are friendly and attentive. Food is plentiful and very tasty.

First time here good service great food big helpings

Been today for food booked online table for 6 and had all picked what we wanted off the menu on website. When got there was a Sunday menu and was told website hadn't been updated for a long time. The food we did choose was nice Sunday lunch for 1 and fish and chips for 3 of us. Beef stottie which is not a stottie and only meal that didn't go well was kids chicken nuggets which I tried myself and were not good. It also asked online when you book if any occasion which I put was my wife's birthday but no mention at all of this. But nice atmosphere ok price good service and most meals were nice.

Order was wrong twice no black pudding no egg no beans no mushrooms on first Order of fully loaded breakfast scottie. No beans or hash brown on second Order very disappointing

Only been for breakfast but I was disappointed. Though it lookes lovely the Bacon over done quite hard as if cooked hours before. Sausages don't taste now black pudding like rubber. Beans overcooked sticking to side of bowl .. beautful place gorgeous views

We called in mid Saturday afternoon, during the lull between lunch and dinner service. There were about five tables filled outside and about four inside, so not especially busy. It took 20 minutes for us to get our order taken of a burger and some pasta. We were told it would be about 15 minutes as the speciality pasta took longer to cook. It was almost 40 minutes before we received our lunch, even though a couple who had arrived after us had ordered, received their meal and had almost finished. In hindsight, we should have ordered the pizzas as they look phenomenal whereas our food was just ok. My partner loved the linguini but the burger wasn't something I would order again. We had to ask for the bill twice and waited over 30 minutes to receive it. If it was rammed busy, we would understand, but a lot staff were standing around and we didn't think the standard of the service was really there. In terms of the atmosphere, again we were disappinted. The building and location are excellent, but there were boxes piled with empty bottles in view of diners, piles of folders and paperwork on tables next to where we were sitting, and a fair few flies.

A big thanks to Warren who looked after my folks when they visited. Signed them in and fixed their Bluetooth. Thanks again. They only went for a coffee and to watch the world go bye but he made them feel so welcome.

Excellent service from this friendly restaurant.Met at the door check in for covid explained one way system was pointed out.Very friendly staff very attentive, service extremely quick.Ordered the fish finger sandwich " it was to die for" Beautiful pieces of battered fish in a soft bread bun with a large portion of chips.My wife Ordered the greek salad with chicken which was extremely well presented and tasted devine.Staff at all times very attentive nothing was a problem for them.Seating was very good with plenty of room between tables you did not feel uncomfortable in the present troubling times.Excellent time had by all can't wait to return.

Super location on the marina and close to the Tyne. Good food and was able to sit outside nice and distant from others so good and safe. A bit blowy but nice in the sun. Food simple and good drinks good. Staff excellent

Me and my mam stopped for some breakfast yesterday, understandably it was busy as it was bank holiday. We got seated straight away, the man that seated us said he’d come back with our menus as they were getting sanitised by someone else. Waited for menus for about 15 minutes before grabbing a lady to ask for menus, she apologised and brought them straight over. During this wait other staff members were literally running up and down and around tables and it was just crazy! I think because as a customer you could feel that it was busy as they were running around and they were letting the pressure get to them instead of taking control of it. Eventually ordered breakfast was told no bacon left so will give extra sausage which was fine ordered 2 teas. The breakfast came out before the teas came out and my breakfast had bacon in ‍♀️. While my mam was digging into her eggs Benedict the lady came over to take payment Which we hadn’t even received our drinks by then. Drinks came out after we had had our breakfast, the drinks came out with other people’s drinks on fine. But I was given a latte and the lady on the other table was given my tea ? So then had to wait again for fresh drinks, and the guy who came out with our drinks didn’t bring any stirrers at all so had to wait for my stirrers. It was a disaster. You could tell the staff were stressed understandable and yes it was busy but it’s bank holiday Monday. There was enough staff there just needed to organise their roles better. But instead everyone was doing a bit of everything and the payment should’ve either been taken at the start or the end not while eating. It wasn’t just our table there were a few things from others where they had received drinks after their food and things were missing off there order. If it was too much why didn’t they just stop breakfast until they could pull themselves back round. And somethings could’ve been prevented like the coffee and teas your bringing hot drinks out majority of people have sugar so are going to need stirrers. Staff were just making extra work for themselves. Apart from this food was lovely and staff were really friendly, just could feel the pressure from them and I did feel for them. Just needs a bit more organisation and expect the worst as everyone’s been locked up for a year so some days will be crazy.

We visited for lunch on a Sunday, the restaurant was busy. The rules regarding social distancing were ample and I felt safe eating here. Even though the restaurant was bustling the wait staff were very organised and quick. This restaurant is very efficiently run and all of the staff are very friendly. Prices are very reasonable and the food was delicious, will definitely be visiting again.

We arrived as 2 families. One with an extra adult as part of our government allowed support bubble. We were instantly challenged by the very abrupt manager. We tried to explain our circumstances but were instantly shut down by the manager. I offered to split us up onto two tables, 1 with 5 adults (2 couples, 1 support bubble, the other with 3 children). I was told that was also not allowed. There was plenty of space, so that wasn't an issue. My friend tried to explain the legislation, but was told "get out of My face" by the manager. In fact he hadn't moved a muscle and was approx 6 feet away.We ended up Leaving, feeling that we had been completely discriminated against. The manager needs to learn the legislation, he is very rude and abrupt, and his customer service skills are APPALLING. Here is a screenshot of the government website, as ljnks are not allowed. I hope he learns it.

£4 for one tin of Coke is just ripping people off. Wouldn’t bother going again. This is the type of business that deserves to fold.

We went on a cold Monday morning for coffee and scones and found the place to be very warm and welcoming. Our host Dianna was very chatty and friendly and nothing was too much to ask. We can’t wait to return for some of the amazing looking food that was coming out of the kitchen which we will enjoy with a bottle of wine and amazing view of the marina. Superb!

I sat outside with a coffee as the inside was rather busy. When I tried it, it was just say warm so I asked the waiter if I could have another. He agreed and brought another about 2 minutes after which I thought was quick. When I looked it had the same half empty sugar on the saucer and no pattern on top so I can only assume it had just been reheated in the microwave or under the steamer. I raised this again and he seemed pretty unhappy with having to do it again. At the moment with the restrictions I understand it may be quite busy adding extra stress to the staff but poor customer service cant be excused.

We arrived at lunch time and was greeted by a short fellow who mumbled something to us and then walked away. We waited and another waitress came and asked if we would like a seat inside it would be a wait but we could sit outside as they were busy. So we sat outside and ordered a pizza each and a pint. The food was evidently rushed as the dough was still uncooked so we raised this with the waiter who changed our meals. In all before we ate our proper meal it took 1 hour. The final food wasnt too bad but it seemed to be ran pretty shabby like. Only upside really was the calming view. Without this we would have gave 1 star

Firstly the venue is fantastic, really nice inside, lots of measures in place with sanitiser and masks, one way system etc, also great location on the marina. Sadly the breakfast wasn’t as good. I had the avocado on toast, which was literally that, Some toast with a massive dollop of avocado on it. Feta cheese and avocado was far too much fat together in one dish, admittedly it did say it had feta cheese on the menu but the combination doesn’t work. The full English was ok but the poached egg was like a boiled ping pong ball. Very strange. The meals came out so quickly I can’t think they were cooked fresh from scratch. The coffee was really good and the staff were lovely. I would like to try again if I was in the area. Maybe the lunch/evening meals are better.

This place seems to have gone downhill since the last time we were here. You can tell there's been a change of management (and for the worst). The staff don't look happy as they used to look. The place seemed completely unorganised and the staff were bitey. I saw who looked like he was a glass Collector, but turned out to be the manager, shouting at one of the young girls who worked there in plane sight of customers in the outside dining area. Completely unprofessional. He then proceeded to pace back and forward outside looking at empty tables and talking to himself. Me and my partner watched with our drink, even thought about calling 111. Think he was having a breakdown or has had one as he looked abit out of it. The food was relatively nice, again not as good as last time though. Overall it appeared to be ran very poorly. Message to the owner: check in on your staff and management, issues are evident.

Ate here with two friends recently after lock down. We queued for an hour to be seated in doors and we’re then told they had nothing left on the menu! I do feel they could have told us this so we didn’t bother to wait but we had so we decided to order what we could - 3 gluten free pizzas they were OK - we had flat coke which was changed when asked but came back just as flat and on entering and leaving the restaurant I was sad to see even though they had no fish left on the menu there was two dead ones floating upside down in the decorative tank . Not the best experience I know it was eat out to help out so was cheap but I still don’t think that excuses how long the wait to be seated was and the wait for food - the only plus to this place was the view

We had a fabulous goats cheese wrap. Absolutely yummy. Would highly recommend. And they fully operated track and trace - which is not always the case.
