My husband and I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone at the wheatsheaf for making our day so special. We got married on the 20th September and hired the room upstairs for a big table of 20 and had our wedding meal here. The pub has such a lovely welcoming feel and the staff and food are amazing. Everyone is so accommodating and service fantastic! We definitely will be returning. Highly recommended. Thank you again to you all. Mr & Mrs Marshall

We came from Newcastle for a christening and someone recommended we come here for food, they couldn't have recommended anywhere more perfect. The staff, the atmosphere and the food were excellent. We shared garlic bread for starters and various main courses, could definitely recommend the lamb chops. A couple of sweets were ordered, eton mess and the brandy basket, both very nice. We will definitely return here on our next visit to the area

We approached JP & the team at The Wheatsheaf to ask if they could host our wedding party on 26th Jan. We can't recommend them enough for all that they did for us. We arrived early in the morning on the day, to do some assembling of the cake/wedding favours etc. Liz had kindly decorated the table for us & she did a stunning job. She also, last minute on the day took the job of dressing our cake with fruits etc, as we were a little too symmetrical in our decorating skills & we are so glad we handed the reins over to her! In total there were 26 of us, in which JP, Liz & the rest of The Wheatsheaf team looked after us so well, we couldn't have asked more of them (whilst still running the pub downstairs for other visitors & diners). The food was amazing as it always is & was bought out so promptly for us all. JP & the team were constantly running up & down stairs taking & bringing drinks orders well into the evening. Thank you all so much for a memorable day.

A great little pub , lovely ambience, friendly efficient staff , great food and drink. It’s rare to have a lunch experience so good - everything was just what a customer wishes for. Welcoming staff , nothing too much trouble , happy to advise on eating options. When our dishes arrived , they could not be faulted - good ingredients perfectly cooked and served piping hot.

The Wheatsheaf hosted lunch for 20 people after our wedding ceremony in June 2023 and everything was great from start to finish - they put together a wonderful menu for us in the upstairs room (including the Wheatsheaf smokies). All the food was great and the team on the day were amazing. It was a perfect space for the number of people and everyone had a brilliant time. Thank you to Vicky and the team for making it all so easy for us and for making the day run so smoothly!

Celebrated Father's Day with my English friends after arriving from Australia. What a beautiful & historical place. Previously the c1700's 'Slate Splitters Arms' it was a great introduction to my English holiday. I HAD to try the Wheatsheaf Smokie - Haddock, white wine cream sauce, tomatoes with a crunchy cheese & grainery bread topping, which was just heaven. Plus a Pimms & Dessert was the Elderslie Cheesecake, also divine. Our table totalled 6 & the service & ambience was superb.

I provided this feedback via their in-house feedback form but they didn’t bother to reply. My girlfriend booked us a table. When we checked the lady behind the bar was puzzled, unable to find our table. Was referred to “manager” who took us to a table with a card showing the table was reserved for another guest. Why no label for our table? Although there were many nice alcoves with a modicum of privacy our table was an awkward add-on in an awkward position with no privacy whatsoever. We ordered drinks that arrived timely and we ordered our roast lamb dinner. Three more times different staff asked us if we had ordered yet? Another example of the chaotic management style!! Within minutes the next table just a few feet away showed themselves to be very inconsiderate with a constantly barking dog under the table, very loud barking. I made my feeling very clear to the staff and soon the barking was stopped. Why allow dogs into the eating area? It’s not appropriate!! We started eating out roast dinner only to be disturbed again by a multiple tray crash, three separate crashes one after the other followed by staff rushing past us to investigate and clear up. Remember, our table in an awkward position, very apparent now. A few minutes later I expected a repeat when another staff member tried to navigate a fully loaded tray through a doorway narrower than the tray. It just beggars belief. Get proper trays!! We finished our dinner which was actually very nice, the only good thing in our visit, and left. It is hard to see why we would want to return to The Wheatsheaf Inn. It was chaotic.

The Wheatsheaf Inn is a nice enough pub and looks like a great place to eat lunch when out for the day in the Charnwood area. The service was also quite good. However, the food served to our family was a combination of mediocre and very poor. Our burgers were served rare, even though we were not asked if we wanted them that way. The Katsu chicken burger was ghastly, with chewy and tasteless chicken mixed with a horrendous curry sauce; there was no hint of a proper Katsu sauce, so that is a very false claim. The Wheatsheaf Smokies dish was okay but nothing to get excited about. Maybe they were having a poor day but using cheap ingredients and cooking them badly is not a good starting point for any food venue. Very disappointed.

We stumbled upon the Wheatsheaf purely by accident and I have to say we will be back! A friendly greeting awaited us from the staff, the menu had a good selection of traditional dishes available along with a few more unusual dishes, I had the Signature Stilton Burger which was lovely, My partner had The Wheatsheaf Smokies which he said was absolutely amazing. We also shared a mint chocolate cheesecake which was sooooo nice. Lovely service from very happy staff who clearly enjoy working there. We will be back soon to try more dishes

My husband and I have visited this wonderful traditional country pub twice now, both times for Sunday lunch. The pub offers a lovely relaxed environment with open fire for extra warmth. Food is amazing and the staff are extremely friendly & efficient. We’ve so far sampled the smokies starter (famous I’m told) Roast Beef, Roast lamb and chicken, all superb, not forgetting the Apple crumble which finished off the meal nicely. This lovely pub is a hidden treasure.

Staff and food are fabulous at this village pub. We visited as part of a large family group ordering everything from Roast Dinners to Burgers to Kids Meals. Everything we ordered tasted delicious and I, for one, will definitely be returning for another Sunday Roast. However, organisation was a bit of an issue. Meals had been pre ordered (which was fine) but staff bringing our food had no idea what was actually on the plates, which did cause some confusion! A minor issue, perhaps, but it's more than a tad embarrassing to discover that the meal you 'd started eating as you'd been told it was yours, turns out to be some else's...oh dear!

We went to the Wheatsheaf Inn after not visiting for a couple of years as the food had become so basic. Happily, we looked on line at the menu and decided to give it another try. So please we did, as the food was so much better, better in fact than most local places. The menu is more traditional pub fayre but very well done. We had the chestnut and mudroom pie and from the specials list the beef bourguignon. Both were excellent in flavor. The pie had shiitake mushrooms plus others, this giving much more flavour than standard mushrooms. A good selection of beers and wines. The only issue we had was that the room was a bit cool, we were not able to get near the fireplace. Otherwise 5*.I think the same menu is served in the evening, it appears more suited to lunchtimes.

Came here a few nights ago with a large group for a Christmas meal. We were seated upstairs I’m guessing because of the size of the group, even though downstairs seemed fairly empty. We were the only table seated up there so the atmosphere wasn’t great and it felt like we got forgotten by the staff. The food arrived promptly and each dish was tasty and served to a good standard, with no complaints at all really. It was just a shame that other than when delivering the food, we didn’t see any staff - nobody checked back to see if everything was ok or to offer more drinks. At one point a waitress even walked into the area, looked at the table and walked back out again which made us all laugh as everybody had an empty glass and we’d even finished the table water, it would’ve been a great opportunity for some replenishment. Three and a half hours later, the table had been emptied and we’d been left to our own devices for a long time, so we had to find a member of staff to ask for the bill. We wanted to enquire about a deposit we’d left, and how that would affect the bill. The waiter seemed unsure so went to fetch another member of staff who just approached the table and said rather loudly and abruptly “Are you confused ladies?” Quite awkward really and a bit of a strange way to approach the enquiry. Anyway we got there in the end. It just seems a shame because we’ve heard good things about both the food and the service, which I’m sure are true. And over the Christmas period things are bound to be hectic, but the fact is there didn’t really seem an excuse on this particular occasion. I think it should just be kept in mind that because a table has pre-ordered and stands as a large group, that doesn’t mean they should receive less service because we don’t need as much attention as other people ordering off the menu or whatever. Had we received better service we probably would have had plenty more drinks and extras instead of just surviving on the jugs of water left on the table - so it’s probably in your best interest to at least try. But as I said, tasty food so it would not deter me coming again.

Went here for a catch up with friends for a midweek catch up. We arrived separately and before any of us had taken our coats off to take a seat a member of staff was there to take our drinks order. We were then left with the menus. Unfortunately the service was not so efficient for the rest of the evening. We had to go up to the bar to ask to place our main order and after a very long wait eventually order our puddings at the bar after what felt like being ignored for quite a period of time. After we finished our food we went to the bar and settled our bill otherwise wed have been there all night... as you can imagine we were not impressed with the waiting service!

My partner and I have been to this place a number of times, both on our own and with family. The food is always incredible. Today we were blown away with their service and kindness. We have recently had a baby, and still like to get out and about as a couple. We called ahead and booked a table to make sure we had space for a pushchair as our little one is too young to be in a high chair, we were given plenty of space, despite the venue being very busy. Our patè starters were delicious, and as he baby had started crying by this point, the staff even offered to hold the baby so I could eat.

This is one our “go to” places. I’ve never been disappointed here. The food is always delicious, the service always very good, the atmosphere always welcoming and comfortable. I would take anyone, anytime, for any reason. The Woodhouse Smokies MUST be tried, but if you can resist them, then try the Aubergine Parmigiana - also very delicious. I usually prefer to sit upstairs as it’s light and pretty but if it’s wet and cold outside, lunch next to the log fire is perfect.

Lovely venue outside the village of Woodhouse Eaves with lots of space and a large car park through the archway. Pleasant staff and lovely freshly cooked food.. not especially cheap but worth it!

I went for a relaxing Friday night drink and that is exactly what I got. Interior is slightly dated but it doesn’t deter. The food and portions were excellent, and the drinks were spot on. There are local ales and beers on tap, and a range of alcohol. Food is served until 9pm. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Could have stayed there for a lot longer. Will definitely be going more often. My new local!

Nice local pub with a warm and welcoming vibe. Staff are really friendly, as are the locals. Lots of good choice on the menu complimented by the specials board definitely make it a cut above the normal pub grub. Had the fish smokies as a starter and it was delicious. Main was just as good with chicken stuffed with mozzarella and olives. Finished with the caramel panecotta which I loved. Overall an excellent meal and look forward to a return visit.

Went for Dinner last night. I hardly have the words for how good an experience it was. The front of house Staff were lovely and very helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was really friendly and welcoming. The food was a complete tastebud delight (and for someone who has a cold and has lost her taste that's no mean feat!). I highly recommend this establishment and will not hesitate to go back. Just make sure you book in advance...they are Über busy even on a Thursday.

I’ll keep it short! This is one of the best pub restaurants I’ve ever been in. Food, staff, atmosphere, location, scenery.... all absolutely magnificent. You have got to visit this beautiful pub if you’re in the area. Beautiful seating area outside, full of character inside. It’s dog friendly too which is a massive plus for us!

Went as a table of 6 on a Saturday evening. It was a busy evening and didn't feel there were enough staff on as they were all doing bar and table service and there were long waits between courses. They were polite, friendly and attentive. Did also find that we had to wait for cutlery after the food was delivered. The food was great to be fair and would happily go again. The only issue with the food was the price of the deserts. Am afraid £8.95 for a small slice of cheesecake was excessive. Overall a decent experience with a little room for improvement
