We had an event in Melton Mowbray so booked a night at The Star Inn,which was only 15 minutes away Had a lovely room ( downstairs). It was very spacious and the bed was really comfortable. Large bathroom too. It was our wedding anniversary so we booked a meal in the evening. The food was amazing and the staff really nice. We had a Continental breakfast the next day which was simple but perfectly adequate. We will be booking again next year..

We love it here. A group of us come every 2 or 3 months as we all live in various places in Leicestershire so meet here. It's not the cheapest place but you get what you pay for. The food is fab but the service is wonderful. The last couple times Carl has served us and he's such a great chap. Someone you can have a bit of banter with and has a wicked sense of humour. We ladies all met in hospital or along our cancer journey, chemo etc so all different ages etc. and this place is just perfect fur us. Thankyou for a lovely meal today as always. And thankyou for singing happy birthday as you brought the cake in etc.. Carl

I can't recommend The Star Inn as a location and it's brilliant staff enough! We chose to stay here for our recent wedding. We booked the day before for myself and my bridal party and then the night of the wedding. We also booked a breakfast for the wedding party on the morning after the wedding. We met The Star Inn at the wedding fayre for Brooksby Hall and they offered the best price around but never pressured us to buy a certain amount of rooms like other hotels. From the minute we booked which was a year before the wedding they treat us like royalty. When we arrived to pay a couple month before the wedding the staff were so kind and helpful it really felt like we were staying with friends. When everything is so stressful organising a wedding you simply must pick to stay here because they will look after you so well. The bridal suite (Seagrave Suite) was perfect for getting ready in the morning. Ample space for my makeup artist and hairdresser as well as my three bridesmaids. There was room for the dresses to hang too. While we got ready the adorable housekeeper came with fresh towels water and biscuits but her energy was perfect too as she was as excited as me for the wedding! The bed was so comfortable, clean and beautifully presented with fancy throw pillows. The bathroom has a mirror that lights up (perfect for getting ready!) as well as a rain shower, normal shower, and bath tub which made the perfect night before pamper session. There was parking outside enough for everybody although some on the street slightly away from the hotel and pub. It was also great to have photos in the morning on the green outside. The food is delicious here with brilliant kitchen staff. The bartenders are also friendly helpful and chatty. If it isn't obvious already this is the best hotel and pub in the local area and the perfect wedding stay. I would give more stars if I could. Thank you so much everybody who looked after me and more importantly my wonderful family.

We really fancied a nice Sunday lunch and after having had a good meal here previously, decided to go back. We walked in via the pub where there were a handful of customers and 2 bar staff chatting to them. No-one acknowledged us so we went up to the restaurant. There were no staff evident in the restaurant either so we hovered for a bit before I went in to a back room and found someone. She said that someone in the bar should've greeted us and we explained that they were chatting to customers so we went up to find our table. Once sat down, the service was good although we waited more than 20 minutes for our food to be served. Only 2 other tables were being used in the restaurant. When the food arrived, it was poor. Overcooked Yorkshire puddings that broke off like a crisp when you tried to cut them. a quarter of my plate filled with baby carrots which were so hard and undercooked that we couldn't stick our forks in to them. Tasteless roast potatoes, average roast beef and chicken. Oh dear. So disappointing. As a consequence, we abandoned any plans to have a dessert and will probably not be going back. Not sure why it was so bad - really felt as though the Chef wasn't around or couldn't be bothered - we felt like a nuisance.

We’ve been to the star inn twice now & on our second visit decided to have lunch. The first visit was one of our many visits to new pubs , since our move upto Leicestershire & we just had a drink. The lunch we had was excellent & reasonably priced. There was an excellent choice on the menu & a fantastic outdoor seating area. The choice of drinks is wide and varied but for me the bass was definitely a winner. Add to that warm friendly staff & we’ve found another excellent pub

Sorry to say this fell well below expectations based on previous visits. To be fair the staff were very good. The menu has changed and almost everything apart from the desserts was bland, limp and tasteless. This we were surprised at and it all appeared prepackaged. We were sold the prawn appetizer was hot and spicy, well someone got that wrong. The pate was hard to find under a thick layer of fat and was well below pate previously served here. Main dishes looked unappetizing, meats were dry and over cooked, weirdest Yorkshire puddings ever served and vegetables just horrible. Desserts were very good and made a Sterling effort to recover the meals. May be some time before we return which is a sad thing to say.

Many things were very good; the decor, the amiable staff, the tasty starters but a couple of things let it down. Although it was Mothering Sunday we managed to get a last minute booking. Initially we had a very good experience with attentive, friendly staff. However, after very good starters our table wasn’t cleared until they brought our mains, which is never good. Also most of the accompanying veg were practically raw (broccoli, sugar snap peas, carrots) and all of us left half a plate of veg. When staff cleared the plates they asked if everything had been ok and we told them yes, apart from the veg which needed much more cooking. Strangely the sprouts and cauliflower cheese we ordered as extras were verging on being over cooked but at least they were edible. Small tweaks and we’d definitely go back but left a little disappointed.

My wife and myself chose the Star Inn 1774 because my daughter had recommended it. She and her husband have recently moved to the village. We arrived about 4 pm on Friday 21st Oct. We was given a friendly warm welcomed, and shown to our room. Our room was lovely, it overlooked the green. The room was cosy and was very clean. We had tea making facilities in the room with a excellent choice of hot drinks and biscuits, which was excellent. We booked a table in the restaurant for 4 adults 2 children plus one highchair. We went down to the bar for a drink before dinner. The bar was busy and friendly and a added bonus was it was happy hour at the bar. The restaurant was lovely, and the table was in a lovely spot. I will not go into detail about our food because i will run out of space, but believe me the food was outstanding big portions including the apple and raspberry crumble which i had to force down because the main meal filled me up. I must not forget the full English breakfast i had the next day...delicious. All the staff were fantastic, the service great. we highly recommend The Star Inn 1774.

It was such a shame! The Star has always been a place that people rave about, and what amazing good quality food it is. We had booked for a meal with friends that we don't get to see often without our children around, and we were really looking forward to it! It started off well, we arrived early, so decided to have a drink in the bar, great service, couldn't fault it. Informed the team at the bar of the name and time of booking reservation. We were approached after a prompt to the bar staff with menus and an option to sit in the restaurant or bar, we opted to stay by the bar as we were happy and cosy where we were. This is where things started to go downhill. We had ordered some bread and olives to have before our starters arrived, however, our starters arrived, and once we were midway through the starters, the olives and bread arrived. Our main courses arrived shortly after- however our starter and olive/breadboard had not been cleared. The waiter told us "Sorry, people sitting in the bar are forgotten about", which didn't got down to well. So our mains were took back to the kitchen and the plates cleared and mains brought back out. We then had to wait a further 10 minutes for cutlery to go with our mains, within our order 2 steaks had been ordered, and there wasn't even an offering of a steak knife! Another main arrived and one of our party was without a main, we all waited to start as the waitress told us the other main was on the way. It got to 15 minutes and it there was no sign of the other main meal. We asked someone, and they went to check with the chef. It was in fact that the waitress who originally took our order, she did not write down x2 on one of the mains that was the same, resulting in only 3 mains being written down. Another 25 minutes went passed before the final main was served to the table, where at that point two of the parties plates has been cleared and the other party still waiting to ensure they ate with the one whos dinner was missing. In the time waiting, we asked to order some more drinks, three of which arrived, but the water that was asked for- did not, we had to ask 5 times before the water came. Once the main courses had finally finished, the rest for the plates were cleared and there was no offering of a dessert/coffee/tea etc. We were only given two apologies, with only the excuse of the waitress was in training and did not know she had made the mistake. When we asked for the bill, this also took around half an hour to come, and only the one meal taken off as a gesture of good will... oh and they charged us for extra drinks we did not have. We paid the bill and made a quick exit, and we wont be returning. It is such a shame. What we were hoping for and what was received, was over priced pub food, in a nicely decorated average pub.

Busy pub with seemingly lots of locals/families (good sign). Warm welcome and immediately accommodated. Service informal but excellent throughout. Menu choice was good (we had no special requirements). Portions were generous but not overwhelming. Above all, everything was superbly prepared/cooked (prawn, scampi, chicken, pork fillet dishes). I visited the venue a couple of weeks ago for Sunday lunch, after hearing positive reviews from a friend. The exterior and interior decor is very well presented, which gave me hope of a pleasant experience. The pub was not busy but not empty, with roughly 10-12 people in and around the bar area, with plenty of free tables in the restaurant, so I joined the queue for the bar so I could request a table, as I hadn't pre-booked, and order a couple of drinks. After waiting maybe 3-4 minutes for the person in front of me to be served I expected to be served next, this was not the case, we were not served for a further 10 minutes with other people being served before us, some who had entered the venue after us, someone even coming down from the restaurant got served before us.Having worked in the bar industry for a number of years I understand that it can get hectic but I expected at least to be acknowledged by the 4 people who were behind the bar at the time but I wasn't, every single one of them looked me in the eye and ignored me.Once we were finally greeted we were then made to wait a further few minutes while they used the phone to ask if there was a table in the restaurant, which when we were seated had lots of empty tables. On the table was the Sunday menu, which we were told was the only menu on offer yet halfway through our meal the table next to me was served something that wasn't on the Sunday menu. The food itself was very nice I must admit but one of the worst customer service experience I've had for a long time, something I didn't expect from a local established 4 star Inn.

We went for a romantic dinner on a saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Warm welcome and a live piano player creating a great atmosphere. Nice friendly service and delicious food! Great place well worth the drive out.

Been coming here for years. Menu changed and not for the better. Very disappointed, side salad on sandwiches disappeared completely, brie bacon and cranberry sandwich so slathered in sweet cranberry goo it dripped everywhere and tasted only of sweet sauce. Awful.

After hearing good reports we booked Sunday lunch. Sadly we wished we had not, the Trio of fish was cold and no more than 3 mouthfuls & for 15.95 this was to say the very least abysmal. The beef was cold & vegetable portions poor. Would we go back ? A definate NO.

I have reviewed a couple of times before, but after a really enjoyable works Christmas meal (about 13 people), that was well enjoyed by all, wanted to leave another positive review. The Star is a cosy place for drinks and we had a few before being shown to a private room where we could be a little more gregarious, and were then really well looked after by the staff. The food was excellent - all three courses, with my lamb main cooked to perfection.

Slightly disagree with some of the reveiws I've read on here. Found the staff to be polite, friendly and attentive and service was ok. I also agree with the reviews which say it's overpriced. To pay £90 for a couple of burgers, fish and chips a risotto, 4 pints and a couple of wines I think is slightly over priced. Yes we all enjoyed our food but for that much I would have expected to at least have a 2 course meal. Yes the Star Inn is nice the staff are nice the food was nice nothing special but would I go again, not at those prices I am afraid

Took Mother last Sunday, after fact we have been on previous visits and enjoyed! But it was very poor this week, service was disjointed and slow! Main meals came then a long wait for the vegetables! Yet lots of staff standing about in the back, why not send the whole meal out at same time by using more staff?? For the price charged £15 for main dish only; I’ve had much better quality for far less! Won’t bother again! Also I was brought a spoon, after ordering the Cheese Board Shame as use to enjoy it!!

This Pub has a good local reputation but unfortunately I was disappointed. Our party was 7 adults so this may explain some of the delay, but the main course took 1 hour from being shown our table, 45 minutes from ordering. The dessert 30 minutes after ordering.

we booked a table at the local pub with a view to having my daughters birthday lunch there, we arrived and were shown to our table, there was only three other tables in the restaurant, we ordered our sunday lunch, this then took 45 mins to come, my husband had the lamb this was like a rosti he said it was ok but nothing special, I had the roast beef and it was disgusting more fat than meat, certainly not what I expected when paying £15.00 per head, the meal was not quality checked by the waitress so when the plates were collected she didn't even question why I hadn't eaten it, I just said to her the meal was shocking, overall the experience was grim and needless to say not booking for my daughters birthday.

Part of quite a large group visiting on a weekday afternoon for lunch. There was a two courses for £10 menu but I ordered from the main lunch menu - the 1844 burger at £12.95. It tasted good, and the accompanying chips were also good. Sides of onion rings and garlic cheese bread recommended. I was happy that they had Thatcher's Haze (cloudy cider) on tap. Nice village pub and restaurant.

Our family meal experience: 1. Awful service 2. Poor quality of food 3. Overpriced Conclusion; do not go! Looks beautiful on the outside & inside and that is about it. We complained to two members of staff and they were not bothered in the slightest.

Came here for a late afternoon meal of which we both had the ribeye steak followed by the crumble. the steak was beautifully cooked and the crumble was gorgeous. The staff were friendly and efficient. Will defo be going back, managed to look at the bar and see their fantastic whiskey selection. The only negative i have about the food was that the 10oz ribeye was slightly overpriced but still delicious.

Had a fantastic evening at The Star Inn in Thrussington!!! Dinner for 4 for my mums birthday and we all thoroughly enjoyed it!! A great ambience with delicious food with a good selection of wines. I really enjoyed the Rump of Lamb which was cooked to perfection, accompanied by a fondant potato, asparagus, broad beans, tender stem broccoli and a red wine jus. Then my desert which was it of this world Frangipane Treacle Tart with Lemongrass ice cream was just amazing!!!!

We haven’t eaten in The Star Inn for a couple of months and booked dinner at 5pm. On arrival we were greeted by George and Joe at the bar who both remembered our drink of choice. We don’t usually have a starter but mini fish and chips and black pudding with crispy bacon and poached egg sounded amazing and we weren’t disappointed.

I am one of a cycling group that tours throughout the east midlands enjoying the good food and drink that is generally available in many places. The Star had been contacted prior to our arrival to see if they could provide food for 5 of us, we were told it would not be a problem . We did not book as it was impossible to give an accurate ETA.....cycling is a bit like that! On arrival we asked about eating and were given a most negative off-hand response that it would be extremely difficult and would be a very long wait. As we were clearly not valued we went elsewhere and were treated very well indeed.

I booked this property months ago, just to have a rude lady calling today to say that they need to cancel because its been overbooked and the other party booked 3 rooms so they have to cancel my booking. I told her this is not acceptable as we booked for a wedding and its in 11 days her answer to me was that she is not calling to argue with me but just to let me know that they are cancelling and that they were trying to call me many times-not true. I had a message on 21st Oct from them on booking dot com, which I didn't see (i already had an email confirmation so wasn't checking, that the booking was confirmed) stating that they having some essential maintenance not that they over overbooked. So with 11 days to the wedding we are left without accommodation. I would avoid booking this place so you don't have to panic on a last minute like me now.
