Thank you for such a wonderful Sunday afternoon. The whole experience was 1st class and our foreign visitors were amazed by the quality of the food. We recommend from the special the Lamb served with a mint gravy that is truly out of this world whilst not forgetting the bottle of red. 5*+

Ate here as a party of 6. Didn’t book a table but arrived at 6 to be told they had to ‘check with the chef’ if we could eat- we were the only people in there. Ate in the lifeless conservatory which was full of flies that plagued us ALL meal. £4.95 for 2 tiny bread rolls with oil, not even freshly baked! Almost £10 for Halloumi sticks (literally just grilled halloumi with some cheap Chili sauce plonked on some greenery, 2 cherry tomatoes and 3 slices of cucumber), and pork bites, incredibly overpriced starters for how basic they were. £15 for a burger seems reasonable but then it’s £4.50 for fries on top of that, £2 for cheese, £2 for bacon etc takes your normal pub burger to almost £25 and it’s absolutely not worth that. Similar situation with the steak, £4.50 for a cheese sauce on top of a £15 steak. Soggy sad chips and an overly generous portion of peas. Service was dire. We wanted to order desserts but we were left alone for so long swatting flies from our plates that we paid the bill at the bar (waiter stood chatting to his mate) and got McFlurrys on the way home. The menu seems too big and too varied for what it is, they’d be better picking a few less items and really work on making those exceptional- it would be slightly more worthy of the prices then. It’s only open for 3 hours for food each evening so how they get it so wrong is baffling. It is in a lovely setting and has the potential to be wonderful but it’s just missing the mark at the moment.

I live nearby and visit this pub for food atleast once a week. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is fantastic. Like any local pubs, it's the customers that make it and this pub has some brilliant and interesting characters. Everyone is friendly and chatty which you don't get in every local. The staff are phenomenal, always willing to have a conversation. The food is spot on for a pub, can't recommend the burgers highly enough. To counter the review left below regarding flies, it's the countryside and there's a massive chicken farm nearby, this is a village wide issue and not a lot anybody can do about it! Ignore the negative comments - I guarantee you'll love it -I do!

I organised a surprise 60th Birthday party for my husband at The White Horse and we all had just the best night! Gemma made it so easy for me to plan the party from the very first chat, to meeting me at the pub and helping me put up decorations on the morning of the party. I suggested an Indian buffet as my hubby loves a curry, and on the night the food was just delicious - there was more than enough to go around with one guest going back for 6ths :) There were 24 guests including children, and we easily were all accommodated in the beautiful oak framed restaurant. I had organised a Bollywood dance workshop too, mainly to keep the children entertained, but on the night pretty much all of the guests were up and dancing! We had planned to use the Stables function room for the dancing, but on the night the weather was kind to us and we were able to use the garden area which was perfect. I would very much recommend The White Horse if you are thinking about somewhere to hold a family party - it has all that you need for a fabulous and fun time, with great food, lovely helpful staff and a landlady who will make it really easy for you to turn your party idea into a wonderful reality :)

After being let down by another restaurant we decided to come to the White Horse and what an amazing place! The pub and restaurant was warm and the staff were so welcoming. We had a three course Christmas meal and were so amazed by the portion sizes, the gravy was the best I've ever tasted. The pork belly fell apart and was expertly cooked to perfection and even came with crackling! My partner had the turkey which was moist and full of flavour. We bravely went for pudding and the homemade crumble was no exception to how good the food had been. The bar staff were very well presented and attentive without being pushy. They even had a good chat with the locals which is really lovely to see and adds to the welcoming atmosphere. We couldn't recommend this little traditional pub enough and cannot wait to go again!

It was great to be back at the White Horse enjoying a meal inside the new dining area. We have watched the building works progress whIlst picking up takeaways throughout the lockdowns then enjoying hospitality in the beer garden as restrictions eased. We have looked forward to sitting inside the new room and on Friday evening we made our first visit and we were not disappointed. The room has a lovely atmosphere, comfortable and relaxing fitted out to a very high level. While enjoying a lager and local bitter (Vixen) we browsed over the new menu which contained some old favourites which we enjoy at the White Horse and also new dishes which gives us another excuse or two to visit soon. The service as always was first class and always with a smile. Well done to everyone, we will be back very soon.

Visited for the first time as 2 adults and 2 young children on a Saturday evening. We sat outside in the lovely garden and ordered from the specials menu - 2 mains from the specials board and a bottle of wine for £29.99. There were abput 8 choices of meal and they all sounded delicious, but we opted for asian style ribs with chips and salad, and lambs liver, mash, mushy peas and gravy. Both were homemade and cooked fresh and were so tasty! The ribs had so much meat on them that fell off the bone, and the lambs liver took me back! Pub is very quaint inside and the staff very friendly and accomodating. We are tempted to come back for Sunday lunch tomorrow!

Having visited the White Horse frequently over the last couple of years and always having been served good food in a nice friendly atmosphere it was an ideal choice of venue to hold my retirement celebration meal for 27 friends and colleagues sitting in the function suite which is adjacent to the pub, Gemma and Charles put together a special menu in advance enabling us to get pre-orders, making it clear that anything could be tweaked for any special dietary needs. Nothing was too much trouble. On the night the weather was perfect and we were able to all meet up in the beer garden for drinks accompanied by the bells from the church next door before we sat down for dinner where Gemma and her team excelled themselves with the fantastic service provided and of course the superbly cooked food. After eating we were able to re convene in the beer garden for chatter and after dinner drinks. Most of the folks attending had not been to the White Horse before but after the meal I heard several of them say that they would be back with their respective partners/families because they had enjoyed their meal so much. My husband and I were so pleased how the evening went which is thanks to everyone at the White Horse. It made a perfect evening and we totally enjoyed ourselves. Seagrave is a few miles drive for us but the White Horse is one of the best pubs in the area, making the drive worthwhile at any time of the year. We will be back soon

My family and I went on a nice walk from barrow to seagrave. We visited this lovely looking pub in a very nice position nice and clean and well presented. The pub said last orders were at 13.45. We arrived at the bar at 13.35 pleased we had made it in time to order. The barmaid made no effort to hide her annoyance that we wanted to order food or drinks even though were within time. She said we would have to be quick and depends on what we wanted. As we made very rushed decisions she kept huffing and glancing at the clock. We ordered three sandwiches and three bowls of chips and sat in the pub garden. The food followed very quickly with very underdone chips. There was another table of people and a wedding party followed after we had been served. She made a remark about wishing the 10 if so wedding guests weren't coming in. Half way through eating the chef stormed out from the back before closing time. As she was clearing the table she kept reminding us that it was closing soon. We felt very unwelcome and uncomfortable. We had one round of drinks and ate our food quickly. The food was overpriced unfortunately. Bottom line service was disappointing and if you want people to leave at 2 dont stop serving food fifteen minutes before and be miserable about it. Either take last orders earlier and just apologise food cant be served at this time. In any pub or restaurant you should be allowed to eat your food without being pressured to leave.

Went here a few months ago and had a tapas meal and was quite nice. Today we arrived just after 2.00pm for Sunday lunch having walking a good 2 miles to do so. We ordered our a pint of bitter, a Diet Coke and water for my youngest. We asked for a table for 3, only to be told they stopped serving food at 2pm. After looking at the menu on the bar, it said last meals were to be ordered by 2-15. I then pointed it out and the lady went through to the kitchen and came back with... "It depends what you would like to order". We felt it was all a little embarrassing by this point so we declined to order food. I sat and drank my pint of Cumberland which was a well kept pint of real ale. My daughter drank hers and the Diet Coke was left behind the bar which I pointed out as I went to pay. We left at 2.25 and the couple on the next table were still waiting for their food. Very strange set up. If they wished to close at 2 they should change the details on the internet and on the menu. My 2 stars would have been 4 on our last visit but I would mark our experience at a zero this time.

My husband and I visited for our Sunday lunch using the Groupon voucher. I feel that the idea of these offers is to show your business off and encourage return visits. However the choice on the menu was very limited. We opted for the brisket meal and fish and chips. The fish was very small and batter soggy. Chips not brilliant. The beef dinner was nothing to write home about with only some frozen peas for veg. Pudding was slightly better. The service was excellent and for that reason wouldn't complain. I think they need to get their act together and probably get rid of the chef!

Set in the idyllic Leicestershire village of Seagrave, not far from Leicester, this original inn, next to All Saints Church (dating from Saxon times) is the quintessential old-fashioned coaching inn. The dining room is cozy, not large, and you must book a table in advance. There is ample parking and an attractive garden for alfresco drinks or dining.Service is friendly and guests are made to feel at home right away. The food is of excellent quality and freshly cooked. There is a variety of "proper" pub food on offer: steak and ale pie, whitebait, homemade soup, pate and bread amongst the best we have ever had. Prices are not expensive by todays standards. If you are looking for a quiet, tasty meal away from loud music, where you can enjoy your meal or just a drink in lovely surroundings and have a decent conversation, this is the one I would highly recommend. We will certainly be returning in the near future!

We saw this on groupon and as we live not far away decided to try it. This is a small country pub which is basically 2 areas. A bar and an eating area. It's a nice place and the staff were helpful. The food however was a bit of a let down. If the idea of groupon is to showcase your premises and encourage people to return it didn't work for us. The groupon menu was small and the deal was main and sweet. As we didn't fancy any of the 4 sweets on offer we opted for a starter instead. These were ok but bumped the price of the "deal" up considerably. There were a number of basic mistakes. The salmon starter should have come with horseradish. It came with mustard which did not go at all. As one of us does not like a lot of gravy we asked for it to come separately. It didn't. The meal was swimming in it. The Yorkshire pudding was so heavy it was inedible. I was assured that the steak pie came with short crust pastry. It didn't. It came with soggy pastry akin to a fray bentos pie! I know we could have complained but sending food back is always worrying! The pub has theme nights most of the week and perhaps these are better. If you go for the 2 for £16 menu just don't expect too much after all you can't get much for £8 these days.

I had never heard of this little gem. Really impressed with the standard of food which was excellent value. I never eat pie, but thought I would gamble and go for it so had the steak and ale pie which was gorgeous. Others in the group had fish or faggots, all plates went back clean. Crumble, lemon sponge and ginger cake with custard all resulted in clean plates too. Staff are really friendly and helpful, and food is very reasonably priced. One of our party had an unexpected medical emergency. Megan who had served the meal contacted the emergency services, stayed calm throughout the whole situation and provided assistance as necessary. We will certainly be back as often as possible and just wish this was our local. Well done Megan.

We went to this restaurant not knowing what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised. We started off with braised beef and steak pie. Both very good, with plenty o both vegetables and meat.We then went on to the sweets, my husband had Chocolate Fudge Cake, and I had Orchard fruit Crumble, they were both excellent, I have never had a crumble like it, so full o fruit, even strawberries. The waitress service was very good, and we will go there again.

We went with friends for an evening out and enjoyed the cosy restaurant setting, the food and the service. A lovely menu with enough variety to please us all, though I would have liked more vegetables.prices were reasonable, I have paid a lot more and been disappointed elsewhere! I was not disappointed here though!

My wife and I started with prawn cocktail at £7.50 each which we thought was very expensive until the plates arrived. They were full of small and large prawns beautifully presented with a small salad and a bread roll and butter. Top price for a top starter. One main was faggots, mash and mushy peas which was very nice but I thought overpriced at £10.95, the other main was fish, chips and mushy peas which again was very nice but the fish was a bit small inside its batter coat considering the price was £11.95. Two sweets were also very nice.In general the meal was well presented by very pleasant and friendly staff although there was a considerable delay between ordering and the meal arriving.Would I go there again? Probably not as the high prices put a damper on what was otherwise a very enjoyable meal. They do however have meal deals which are more attractively priced which would make a further visit a distinct possibility.

my husband and I visited after being given a Groupon voucher as a present. Easy to book, lady on the phone was very helpful. The pub is small, 2 rooms in which to eat and we were seated in the smaller of the 2 which meant diners were sitting quite close to each other. The Groupon offer was 2 courses from a limited menu so not much choice but it was still good value. The dishes we picked (1 burger, 1 fish both with chunky chips) were very well cooked - they tasted good, fresh and hot and the sweet (orchard crumble) was delicious. The service was good, professional and attentive. The Groupon deal achieved it's purpose as I would eat here again and choose from the normal menu.

Visited the White Horse in Seagrave today and was very impressed. We took advantage of a groupon deal they advertised 2 courses for 2 people for £16. I have the Brisket which the meat was really tasty and presented really well. I also decided (being extra hungry) I would have a side of cheesey garlic bread which tasted fantastic. A simple but tasty desert finished of proceedings very well watered down with a cold refreshing pint of Kronenberg. Would certainly return again.

We went here on a Friday night using a groupon deal. We were very impressed with the wonderful friendly service and beautiful fresh home cooked food. The steak and ale pie was packed with quality tender beef with lovely gravy and rustic home cooked chips. The orchard crumble is not to be missed! Will be returning for sure.

Went for lunch with my son. He chose the sirloion steak with pepper sauce. He said that it "tasted" homemade and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had one of the specials for that day, fish and chips with mushy peas. Was lovely. Service was attentive but not overpowering. really warm welcome. wish we had had room for pudding but maybe next time!

We visited this pub back in the summer when the tapas nights were on and really enjoyed it. We heard that they had started an Italian night in place of this and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did as we thoroughly enjoyed it! My partner and I tried the chicken tagliatelle and the spagetti and meatballs and they were both fantastic. We also had the homemade garlic bread which was to die for!! The food and drinks were reasonably priced and we do enjoy the quiet of the pub itself. (Also a lovely area if you fancy a walk around before or after your dinner)

Went for sunday lunch on the 26th, so nice to go to a proper pub, great staff, good beer and best of all was the food cooked by Charlie the chef, the beef was fantastic with plenty of fresh veg. Its a real treat to go and eat in a place like this. Will be back. Keep up the hard work and thanks for a great Sunday lunch.

As is so often the case with TripAdvisor, the people who fancy a whinge can't wait to unload on here. Take the less positive reviews on here with a pinch of salt, if you grant them any credence at all.The fact is that the White Horse has a veritable army of locals and regulars who cannot get enough of the food that Charles (the regular chef who, by the way, is allowed to go on holiday occasionally) prepares. The philosophy of the kitchen is one of seasonal local food, freshly prepared. The end result is a mix of hearty British food and special nights from around the world when the ingredients lend to it. As a case in point, my wife and I had a special meal prepared for us for an engagement photo shoot and Charles pulled out all the stops to make us a phenomenal meal.If nothing else, I hope this review can speak for those who visit the White Horse every day and have a great meal - as opposed to the odd few with a gripe.

Went for my grandsons birthday. I ordered steak and asked for no blood. The steak was very fatty and dry, so much so that I didn't eat half of it. Did let the waitress know about the problem. Ladies toilets only one in action and no toilet paper.

Went as a table of 6 on a Saturday evening. It was a busy evening and didn't feel there were enough staff on as they were all doing bar and table service and there were long waits between courses. They were polite, friendly and attentive. Did also find that we had to wait for cutlery after the food was delivered. The food was great to be fair and would happily go again. The only issue with the food was the price of the deserts. Am afraid £8.95 for a small slice of cheesecake was excessive. Overall a decent experience with a little room for improvement
