Me and my wife went last night to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, it's the first time we have eaten there for many years, and it was excellent, the food, service, and atmosphere was spot on we will be back, if you haven't been then go, we were treated to a glass on champagne that was a nice touch and a signed card for our anniversary , special shout out to Martin for the exceptional service

Went here today, 19 May 2025, at about 5 pm, and it was virtually empty at that point. I had fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce, with a pint of Ambsel lager, which cost about £25. The fish was large, and the batter soft, the fish within was white and tasted fantastic with a hint of the sea. There was no fish smell indicating freshness. The chips were soft and cut readily with the knife. I enjoyed the tartare sauce. The pub is a lovely location and as I walked around the pub it was a nice cisy pub with a fire place central to the dining area. The pub was clean throughout, as was the outside area. Loved the pub as I was treated with respect and dignity. The staff were excellent, and I definitely did not feel discriminated in any way or form. I will definitely visit again!

Not a good place! my experience is of a place where there is a class divide which is encouraged by the management. The more you spend the more favourable service you get. Equality definitely doesn't exist here!!! Equality meaning defined as, state of being equal especially in status, rights and opportunities. It is 2025 and the modern world encourages parity. Let's hope it gets to Swithland soon!!

1st time of visiting and will definitely be the last! Arrived on a warm afternoon after a long local walk for a drink and light bite to. On arrival we found a nice shady table in the courtyard area listening to a female vocalist, we then fetched drinks from the bar settled down enjoying both the music and our drinks while we deliberated on what to choose for our lunch. My partner and I choose a Pizza which was an option. My partner then informed me we couldn't sit in the courtyard but had to move to the lawn area, even though my partner had it confirmed by a member of staff said it was Ok. Other people were sat eating pizza on nearby tables and had been there for a while before us. I am not racist or prejudice in anyway and embrace the modern equality way of living colour race creed religion and treat everyone as equal, ( my partner is dual heritage) It appears the Griffin Inn management has a different view and in my opinion operates an "us and them"policy as the norm for normal brits like ourselves. When I pointed out my disdain and my money was hard earned like everyone elses around me and the same colour and currency aswell. The man in charge(He acted like he was in charge only confirmed this "us and them"policy actually existed and tried to justify it by claiming it was Saturday!!!) I can only think because I wasn't dressed like I was going to a wedding I felt most definitely discriminated against and aggrieved we could not comfortably sit in the shade and enjoy the same ambience and atmosphere like most others who had chosen to do so. We will definitely not go back as didn't feel welcome certainly do not agree with the clear discrimination driven by choice of what you eat!! I will definitely not visit again and discourage anyone else to having to experience what we did. Equality and diversity is now accepted across the world only not in Swithland, go somewhere else and enjoy good ambience and good food but most important of all be treated as equal!!

Unfortunately I was disappointed with the food we received. I had the goats cheese tart to start, whilst the portion size was good it had a very dry pastry case and did not taste of goats cheese. I really didn’t enjoy the crab and lobster linguine was just not to my taste and the sticky toffee pudding lacked depth of flavour or richness compared others I have had in the past. Other people round the table noted that their ribeye steaks were not very warm, neither was my cappuccino. The Bakewell tart also had very dry pastry and more of a cake like filling rather than a frangipani filling which was disappointing. For the price I was expecting exceptional food and what we received was not.

We booked a table for nine people as a special family occasion. We booked at 6.30 pm so we could finish fairly early. For the first half an hour there was one waiter rushing about on his own trying to do everything and failing. We eventually placed our order at 7.15 pm. Restaurant was very noisy with everyone shouting. The first courses and nibbles seemed generously portioned and tasty. However when the main courses arrived things took a down turn. Most of the dishes were cold and portions were meagre. There seemed to be great quantities of chips. I ordered a double burger thinking this would be home made. The meat was cold and tasteless. The home made coleslaw was tasteless. Sticky toffee pudding appeared to be chocolate pudding covered in toffee sauce. Luxury hot chocolate was in a small tea cup and certainly not hot. I could go on but suffice it to say that none of us will be returning and won't be recommending this place to anyone. Total bill £554. Complete waste of money.

Visited the Griffin Inn Swithland for Mothers Day. Beautiful place, good service but the food was very disappointing. Three of us had the Cricketers Roast that had a £3.95 supplement, it was described as Beef, Pork & Chicken so we thought we were going to get a lovely meal and portion, in reality there was an extremely thin slice of Beef, a small slice of Pork and a chicken leg, it was obvious that a lot of effort had gone into making the portion so poor. The gravy was tasteless and the Yorkshire puddings were cold and dry. My father had beef which again was the thinnest and poorest portion . All in all we paid £250 and left very disappointed. Would genuinely be hesitant going again as the portion and quality was poor.

We ordered from the spring à la carte menu, selecting the chicken thigh burger with chipotle mayo and the poke bowl with sticky chicken. Our server was very attentive, patient, and helpful. The food was amazing. It was piping hot and tasted so nice. There were vegan options for my sister, who also enjoyed her meal. Not the cheapest and my glass of wine was £9! However, perfect for a special occasion and I could not fault any part of the meal. All was delicious. This is a lovely pub with amazing decor and pleasant, helpful staff. However, we were disturbed to see how frequently the main bar server used her fingers to handle ice and lemon, and generally prepare the drinks. At one point she collected ice she had accidentally dropped onto the bar surface and swept it into the cocktail she was preparing. It is not a great look and raises questions about hygiene and training. I am sure they can do better

The pub itself is large and spacious, with lovely decor a nice refurb. Menu choice is good and looks impressive. Staff were attentive and very polite. Food was good but not great considering the price point, Mid end restaurant pricing for what is basically posh pub food. A £20 Sharing platter was a few slices of meat, 5? Small ( 5 divided by 2??) croutons a pot of nice tapenade and a few small toms on a small platter. In essence this was a single serving, most definitely NOT a 2 person sharing. Appreciate costs are having a big impact on hospitality and making a profit but if you are going to charge make sure the final product matches that price? Such a shame as we went on such good recommendations.

The transformation of The Griffin is wonderful, so light, airy and tastefully done, but still keeping some of its old charm. The team of staff were all so polite, efficient and welcoming. The communication after booking was faultless, we were regularly updated on local road closures and alternative routes. We all ordered something different and not one of us were disappointed. Last minute decision to go out as a family Had a tidy meal just what we ordered. The only things we would say is that the quality of the meat was let down by the poor wine. Went for the Malbec. Great that trying to sell a sustainable product but it was not served well it was chilled and it was not a significant taste for the price at £35 per bottle I would expect a DOC wine to prove sustainability and authenticity of where the wine is sourced. And for £35 I would definitely except a wine that taste better. Kids meals were poor. Burnt small burger and cold chips. Was eaten out of hunger rather than taste They also need to sort out the lighting

Dined here recently with family. One person behind the not particularly busy bar making coffees. No welcome. My wife had to track down someone else to serve us drinks before we took our table, as we wanted a drink in the bar first. My starter of beetroot and mackerel look and tasted good, could have done with some toast or a cracker and at £9.50 seemed expensive. My fish and chips were awful, both were barely luke warm and the fish very greasy (I assumed the oil wasn’t hot enough) despite someone else paying I had to send it back, if it was just warm I would have eaten it. Ben, who served us was very helpful. The Malbec I had wasn’t good enough for £35. I don’t know where to suggest as an alternative nearby but I would make the effort to go to the Hammer and Pincers at Wymeswold.

Went on the Saturday evening just before Christmas for my daughter’s birthday. FYI if you sign up to their newsletter you get a free bottle of Prosecco on your birthday, result! They also confirmed we could bring in our own birthday cake without any extra charge to us, which was great. The Griffin Inn is beautiful, the decor is spot on and there was a lovely cosy buzz about the place. Owing to the time of year it was very busy, that said the waiting staff were attentive, happy and polite. We got there early and had a drink at the bar, cocktails were spot on, and they do a good draft Madri. They even topped up my coke at not extra charge. We sat at a round table, which I prefer, near the bar. Everything so far was lovely. Unfortunately what let things down was the food, which was not as good as it could or should have been, especially at the price point. I had fish and chips, but they were not very flavoursome, and a little dry. Other members of my family (of 6), felt their choices were also pretty underwhelming. No one choice was great. Great place to dine. The restaurant is lovely but the outside dining and seating area is a beautiful setting for a nice drink and some food. Would definitely recommend!

First time venturing out to The Griffin Inn, the venue itself was very nice along with the staff. The food was disappointing, I would recommend not ordering the pumpkin gnocchi, it was not pleasant or edible and had to be sent back, we ordered again but no money reduced off the bill. The atmosphere was a little loud, we could hardly hear our friends talk. Unfortunately we will not be rushing to go back to The Griffin Inn anytime soon

We went to the Griffin as part of a birthday surprise. The atmosphere was fantastic and the soft music playing in the background set it off perfectly. Service was great. The staff were friendly and really attentive. I had the Double smash burger and it did not disappoint. I have had the burger the last three times we’ve been and it really is the best burger I have had. The chocolate Torte has got to be tasted to see how good it is, it really is the best! Thanks again 😊

I have been coming here for years and was sceptical to return following the new ownership . However I have been here three times since it had its refurbishment and enjoy it more each time. The food has been 10/10 every time and the service is fantastic! The team clearly know what they are doing and I have recommended the Griffin Inn to many of my family and friends. Will be back soon !

Very nice restaurant that has clearly had some money spent on it. The surroundings are pretty fantastic. Service was very attentive and the food was also great. Wish I could have tried some more of the wines whilst I was there to get a proper feeling for the quality and pricing. Outside areas are also very nice. I bet the beer garden is packed in summer!

I booked this property months ago, just to have a rude lady calling today to say that they need to cancel because its been overbooked and the other party booked 3 rooms so they have to cancel my booking. I told her this is not acceptable as we booked for a wedding and its in 11 days her answer to me was that she is not calling to argue with me but just to let me know that they are cancelling and that they were trying to call me many times-not true. I had a message on 21st Oct from them on booking dot com, which I didn't see (i already had an email confirmation so wasn't checking, that the booking was confirmed) stating that they having some essential maintenance not that they over overbooked. So with 11 days to the wedding we are left without accommodation. I would avoid booking this place so you don't have to panic on a last minute like me now.

Great venue, food and drink offering. Not great service when the empty glasses are left on the table and I have to take them to the bar… I was even watched by a member of staff. Not sure serving 3 small pieces of meat for the Cricketers Roast is that acceptable. Not for £25… then charging for all the extras which I had anyway, wanted to try. Nice touch coming round to offer a second yorkies and potatoes. Just not sure the value for money is there. Meats were cooked lovely and the crispy cauliflower starter was awesome. £91 for 2 drinks, 2 starters, 2 roasts and 2 sides.

We visited for a friend’s birthday and what a treat ! Gorgeous surroundings and lovely food. We had a mix of starters and mains including goats cheese tart and garlic and chilli king prawns. It was a busy Friday lunch time but the manager Sammy made sure we were well looked after and helped us to make a great friends birthday a fabulous one. Great food and fab service.

We popped in to book a particular table well in advance. On the night we arrived staff seemed annoyed we requested to sit where we had pre booked. However after being advised service would be slow because of our choice of table it was in fact really good and we had a lovely time. The wait staff were lovely. Food wasn’t fabulous for the price but it wasn't bad either.

The Griffin Inn is a little gem in the most beautiful village. We went for Sunday lunch and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Firstly, the staff, although very young, were very welcoming, friendly and professional. Now the food - this was one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. The food was hot, very tasty and they came round with extra roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. Extra gravy was brought out with the meal too. We all had roast beef which was cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the roasted peach Eton mess - again very delicious and a good portion. With a glass of wine it worked out at £42pp with a good tip, which I felt was good value for money for the quality of the food. One little criticism, please add roasted parsnips to the meal and it would be absolutely perfect!! A special mention has to go to the lovely staff. We were well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. My friend is disabled and they opened the side door onto the car park so she had easy access to the car. All the young people were very friendly and helpful and they all seemed to be really enjoying their jobs. They were well trained in being attentive but not overly so, opening a bottle of wine properly and great customer service! The ambiance is very modern in an old pub with some nice touches. The toilets were immaculate and beautifully appointed. I would definitely recommend this venue and look forward to returning on my next trip to the Midlands xx

Very poor food. Was surprised how bad it actually was and very poor value for money. The staff were all excellent and efficient but that’s no substitute for terrible food. Would never visit again or recommend to anyone.

Where to start? It’s like going back in time, the decor, the lack of ambience And then there’s the food ! A very simple/dated menu and the food we ordered was simply not worth eating Nothing at all is fresh - maybe the iceberg lettuce on which the tomato slice and raw red onion sat I had a chicken burger and chips - two slices of grilled tasteless chicken (and the iceberg lettuce mentioned above) in a limp bun I didn’t opt for the .45p upgrade to ‘Cajun chicken’ which i guess just means the chef opening the schwarz jar of spices ? The piri piri chicken wasn’t much better - two grilled pieces of chicken with some wholesalers sauce poured over it The other food we order was just as poor The food had no flavour apart from ‘bought in’ jarred sauces And all this at ‘good pub’ prices - those who make the effort to create and actually cook food with care and imagination It doesn't have to be a gastro pub, but at least do the basics properly! There are so many places to choose from where the food is so much more inspirational and the menu’s are current, not so dated A little embarrassing all round really and we’ll go to somewhere where the food is fresh, cooked by a chef who cares and has some imagination next time Sorry

The pub looks brilliant after the new refurb. Staff here are so friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious with a good selection of meals to choose from (gluten free and vegetarian options available). Drinks are reasonably priced and there is a good selection to choose from 🍺 🍷 Really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be coming back :)
