The Anchor Inn in Charnwood

We visited Ona Sunday lunchtime. The roast dinner was tasty and there was plenty of it! Meat was of a great quality. The young man that looked after us was really pleasant. I would recommend giving this place a try!! We will be back!!

If you’re thinking of going for a Sunday Roast, I recommend avoiding this place. We went there not knowing they had changed owners, expecting to have the nice Sunday Roast we always used to enjoy—but that was not the case. The beef was raw, as were the vegetables and the cauliflower with cheese, and the Yorkshire pudding was burnt. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I felt I had to this time. The price has also gone up (£17), and the portion of vegetables for three people was very small.

Having got there we were told that the menu had changed due to new management. Very limited choice for vegetarians. We nearly left but decided to stay. I ordered the chip shop platter and I have never had chips like them before. Absolutely awful. Unpeeled and overcooked.. The batter on the fish was also overcooked. I know it is under new management but I don't think I will visit again.I don't think any of us finished the meal. The desserts were ok though.

Went for Sunday lunch on October 6th . Wasn't sure it was open as previous owners finished last wk I believe. But popped in on the off chance they may be serving Sunday roasts and they were. Best Sunday roast I have had in a long time . This was homemade and delicious 😋 Roast beef perfect and roasties spot on crispy and to die for ! Cauliflower cheese and peas and cabbage ,yorkies 😋 I had the starter as well which I had the creamy mushrooms and omg they were also just delicious. Can't fault any of the food or service. Michelle was our lovely server and hats off to the chef Dom 👨‍🍳 keep up with food like that and you will be fully booked every wk ! My only niggle would be that the pub was cold , think the heating could of done with putting on a few hours to warm the place up . We certainly will be going for Sunday lunch again . 👍

Disappointing - from past experience expected much better. Long list of "unavailable" dishes and no specials. For a Saturday evening on a Bank Holiday Weekend, we thought it pretty poor. Food was dull and overpriced. Half rack of ribs was £16.50, and was 3 small ribs.

So looking forward to the food and was well disappointed food looked so good on web page lovely staff so very unfortunate about the food felt so uncomfortable asking for a refund

Lovely Sunday dinner out. You can have a 3 course, 2 course or just a main course , each priced very well.

I feel as if this place is usually better unfortunately we went while the football was on and the staff were busy, the food was lovely though, the steak was nice, pizza was really good and best part was real home made chips, I would definitely go again

Just had the ribs and all I can say is OMFG the meat fell of the bone was lush I can’t normally finish my food because of what you get but this time I was able to finish it and I recommend the ribs VERY VERY CRACKING FOOD

Very disappointing Sunday lunch experience. Started with sticky carpets and bare tables - only a partial menu offered for Fathers Day - 2 x roast options not on ! Food that did come was overcooked, prefab roast potatoes. Avoid.

I was here for a function , it was a nice day so some people were in the function room and some in the outside seating area.

Lovely real pub, not a generic chain, and the food was very nice - big portions. It was a bit quiet, but then it was also early. I'd definitely go back

Was supposed to be a quick pint on the way home but, 3 ish hours later we'd had an enjoyable evening.

My son and I went for meal here with friends and their children. We ordered pizza and fries but after trying the food we noticed that the pizza base was undercooked and still doughy. The sauce on the pizza just tasted like they had spread tomato puree over the base. When we took it to the bar and explained the lady who had served us did not apologise and acted as though our complaint was a huge inconvenience to her. She took it to the kitchen got it reheated and plonked it back on the table without saying anything. It was still raw and doughy so we had to take it back a second time and ask for a refund. Nice pub but awful food and service.

Fantastic Sunday lunch, huge portions, amazing staff. There were six adults, two children and two babies and the food arrived at the same time, piping hot. We'll definitely be visiting again.

Me and 2 friends popped in Monday for some afternoon beers, then 2 of us popped in later in the evening ended up having the 20oz mixed grill. Both was cooked to perfection!! The staff who I believed was on was Shauna, Ellen and Fred. They are such a credit to the team!! Will be definitely returning in the very near future!!! If anyone is close and want a top home cooked meal...this is the place to go!

Just called in for lunch, not local, just saw it en route, if you want a real pub with a great welcome and fantastic food (big plate!) don't bother going anywhere else. Fantastic. Good beer and dog friendly as well

Just 100 yards from our house. Could not ask for a better local. Pleasant surroundings, good atmosphere, welcoming landlord and landlady, good barpeople, great range of drinks and good food. In the winter it's cosy inside, in the summer there is a large beer garden to relax in. They have many live events and a regular quiz night. Having convinced the gang to come to the anchor last year, it was so good we did it again this year. We were not disappointed. Great menu, plenty of food. All of it delicious. Fantastic service and a great atmosphere. The best Xmas Dinner out I’ve had this year again. Lovely fish starter and traditional Xmas pud with choice of sauces to finish. We were looked after and not rushed at all. Thank you all for a great meal.

Lovely welcoming pub. Excellent food and service. Staff very friendly and helpful. They are now using a new menu which is reasonably priced with plenty of choice. Home made chips and battered onion rings!! A large outside seating area for eating. And drinking. A bouncy castle for the kids. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit especially the food.

Stopped off at pub plenty parking friendly atmosphere the gardens were spot on for kids to play in friendly staff landlady very helpful and john who I think is father to landlady great fella and a trucker plenty stories lol food arrived and couldnot fault it thankyou too all ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I came to the pub after letting my little one choose- he said the pub with the bouncy castle in Hathern. So there we went and I was so disappointed. I was able to order my food at the bar whilst my friend sat with our children, at the table we had been provided menus for. I ordered and she immediately went up to order; and was told she had an hour wait. When she asked if I also had an hour wait, they said no as my order had been first, she then had to leave with four very upset children! The staff could see we had a table of two adults and five children however failed to discuss the wait time in advance meaning it separated our party. Me and my son then stayed. When the food came his was fine but mine… was freezer food. Overpriced. I ordered 3 starters as my main, which were SO small and not at all appealing. Cook from frozen spring rolls and a fig and cheese tart… again not freshly made. The staff were not friendly at all and this was off putting. Everything felt like I was asking so much, and I would have loved to discuss the food with them however they cleared my plates and did not ask if I had enjoyed the meal despite me leaving most of it. We then ordered desserts and asked them to be bought to the garden, again this seemed like a lot to ask! No friendly service at all. My son however enjoyed his food and pudding, and the bouncy castle and play equipment in the garden. However the garden soon had a wonderful aroma of weed so we promptly left.

Came here for our evening meal with my four children and a friend with her child, we sat and after looking at the menu had all decided one what to have, my friend ordered her food while I sat with the children and then it was my turn to order. I went to the bar to be told that if I order food I would be waiting an hour, I asked if that was the same for my friend who had ordered just before and they said no because she ordered first, no staff mention to her that the restof us would be waiting and hour for food. So my only option was to leave my friend and her child and take my children home to eat. Having three very upset children that couldn't enjoy the evening we'd planned. Not good service when the staff knew we were all one table. I probably won't return as the embarrassment of having to get four crying children out of a busy pub while people looked on is not something I'd like to risk repeating.

We came up from London for our son's wedding and came here for lunch in a large group. Super friendly lady took our order and food was great.

The quality of the food it’s good however the last 2 times I have gone in to eat, they have just decided that they are no longer serving food. There is no consistency with times of food service and therefore it’s difficult to rely on going there for food. Last time I went in for food at 3pm on a Saturday they just told me ‘no more food is being made today’ with no explanation. Twice I’ve had to take my family somewhere else to eat because of this.

Good pub - was very busy when we went ! Good spacious garden ! Also do a great food selection- worth a visit! We only had drinks at the time of our visit!

I live in the village and decided to go out for Sunday lunch there today. Food was perfect and I’m not sure how I managed to eat it all. Very good portions. Hospitality/welcome was brilliant. Proper pub. Good food.

Had a great roast beef dinner, plenty of veg and gravy. Really good quality. And the coffee is the best I’ve ever tried. Service was excellent. A great afternoon out.

Very disappointed after this place was recommended. Vegetable soup for a starter…definitely out of a tin! Too embarrassed to say anything at the table but we weren’t even asked how our food was. £5.95 I believe was the price for a tin that was maybe Aldi. Dinner was okay, the mash tasted like it was frozen & the beef was dry. Definitely won’t be going back & definitely wouldn’t recommend. Very poor

Although it's very local to us we had not been for a while. So glad we tried it again. The staff were extremely polite, the service was second to none and the food was AMAZING! THE BEST prawn cocktail we've had in a LONG time. I honestly thought chefs had forgotten how to make them!! Will definitely be visiting again and would recommend to others.

Had a pre Christmas Christmas dinner it was fantastic. Staff were lovely. There was plenty of food which was fresh and to a high standard. They let us rest between dinner and pudding.

Booked a table for 7:30pm for a special occasion. Arrived and was told the kitchen shut 7pm, which wasnt advertised. This wouldn't have been an issue, however the woman that served us was so rude and didn't believe we had a booking, accused us of being in the wrong pub then demanded to see our booking confirmation. It was also noted that we could book a table until 9pm on their website. Absolutely appalling, not worth it.

Booked a table for 2 x adults & 1x Dog, we arrived 30 mins earlier than out reservation time but very friendly staff told us no problem at all come on in and find a table. The menu choice is amazing and you can certainly tell it was home cooked, the beef stew & dumplings was to die for & my wife had the home made curry of the day & was delicious. Would certainly recommend a visit as dogs more than welcome in the bar area. 10/10.

Quiet and friendly, been passing by this place for years, but finally visited - and I’m glad I did! Good menu and specials with excellent Gluten-free options (including a fantastic Sausage, mash and Gravy option) - staff helpful and atmosphere warm - Lasagne looked home-made not shop-bought and was delicious- looking forward to going back for desserts next time!

Was served by evie and was taken cared by jen what a team was blown away couldn't do enough for me. Added bonus was stewart that made sure my glass was never empty, top people !

Mixture of young & old, friendly & warm, contemporary surroundings & a very large garden (you could hold a village fate in it) if you ever find yourself in Hathern waiting for a haircut at the only Barbershop there, pop in for a pint & a ponder.

Great food and classic British pub atmosphere! Staff were friendly and welcoming too. Lovely big beer garden as well with a play area and bouncy castle. Perfect for families!

Not been for six years,but prices seem very expensive except for all day breakfast we just popped in for a latte but seems ideal for children, bouncing castle 🏰 child friendly. And snack bar outside

Really friendly, big portions of home cooked food, good selection of food and drink at reasonable prices in general. Hireable function room, also reasonably priced. There's a massive beer garden with plenty of stuff for the kids to do: bouncy castle, play area, sand pit, cosy coupes, etc. Dogs also welcome (if on leads) and there's ample parking. How pubs should be! Definitely recommend 👍

Really nice little pub. We went at the jubilee bank Holiday, they had a bbq and plenty for the family. Would recommend to anyone with children.

Brilliant, I turned up with a puncture, dressed in lycra. (I'm 52 and somewhat portley). Not a word was said about my appearance, pint was perfectly poured. I think I may return in civvies.
