Food is yet to be reintroduced, but will be available soon, not long after the reopening of this beautiful Pub. Upper case. The care in injecting some love into this hidden escape marvel. Generations of my family have been in on it's secrets. She's got to have a great future. Delighted with service and atmosphere.

Popped in after hearing good reviews about the food. We were not disappointed, the curries are simply exquisite. It's a quaint country pub tucked away and might be hard for people to find but if you like a curry it's well worth the drive. Staff are pleasant and the chef comes out to see you personally.

If you like Indian food and pubs, then this is the place for to go. A traditional pub that serves only home cooked Indian meals made to suit your taste. Unlike regular 'curry houses' the Brookside Inn caters for the individual in a friendly & informal way, with the chef himself checking with you how you want your food &a having a chat with you at the end of the evening If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely be returning to the Brookside Inn

This was the first time I had had a takeaway from the Brookside, which was, incidentally, delicious. But. I had to collect my meal from the bar which was small and crammed ; absolutely no social distancing whatever; people at the tables elbow to elbow and I had to push my way past to get out. The bar staff made no attempt to take my contact details. It was as if Barkby was in a world of its own, Covid-free. Having spent the last few months carefully following official advice it was quite shocking that here there was absolutely no regard either by the customers or the staff for any sensible precautions.

We did eat there. Indian food. Cooked by Harry (lovely friendly Indian chap) who was also Manning the bar at the time, but we didn't have to wait along time for the food. It was rather good! The location of the inn is lovely but the curries were below standard. We had two different curries but they tasted the exact same. They were also incredibly oily and we felt sick the next day. The Pilau rice didn't have any sweetness to it and tasted like plain basmati. This was not authentic Pilau rice. The onion bhajis were also drowned in oil and flavourless. I hope they can improve and start to taste their own food because it is not authentic Indian.

After spending £80 on tickets to spend our New years eve celebrations at another pub in Barkby and they were VERY greedy with over selling the tickets leaving no seating available. We left and travelled to this little out of the way gem. We were welcomed in to this dated busy pub with open arms. All the locals bought in food as well as the pub supplying some. At no extra cost to us we were invited to eat and drink with them all. We thoroughly enjoyed our night and are looking forward to joining them in the not to distant future for a curry or a Sunday lunch. Thank you all for your hospitality and you will be seeing us soon. Having left our pre-planned New Year's Eve event at the Malt Shovel in Barkby after just 15 minutes , thoroughly disgruntled having wasted £80 on the 4 tickets we had purchased and very disheartened having felt we had been purposely misled (lied to?) over that event (at the Malt Shovel, in case anyone is interested), we went in search of somewhere to 'drown our sorrows'....and ended up here at the Brookside Inn. WOW!!!! This place really is a little gem, and the staff are lovely. We were immediately made to feel very welcome, and what's more, we were encouraged to partake of the food that the Brookside and the community had laid on for the evening. We were not asked to contribute a penny towards this! And the food was delicious...just what the doctor ordered. They also serve a good pint! The owner, (I believe his name is Harry, but I apologise if this is incorrect) went out of his way to ensure everyone was happy and having a good time! THANK YOU BROOKSIDE, for your hospitality and kindness. You turned our disastrous New Years Eve into a very lovely and memorable evening. We will definitely be back!

Under new management since January 2019, and Harry is doing a fantastic job. The Brookside is set back in a really pretty village on the brook, with outside seating and beer garden to the rear. The bar is small and quaint, full of locals and regulars who are very welcoming to the likes of us! It could do with a refurb, but the old open fires are part of the charm. There are darts and pool for the more competitive punter. Harry knocks up a cracking curry, beautiful fresh naan and the rest of the feast himself. He’s really generous too - if it’s not on the menu, chat to him and ask. You can pick Up decent take away too at great value. We’ve had to make a lot of return trips. Can’t wait for tonight’s Friday night curry.

Tucked away in Barkby, a little village on the northern edge of Leicester, this little pub is well worth seeking out for lovers of a decent curry. It was closed when we popped in for a late, midweek lunch, but the proprietor / chef responded to the rattle on the back door beside the car park and rustled one up, just for us. Now That's service! Look, the premises are well due a refurb, but although we were the only customers, the ambience was pleasant and everything was clean & presentable. My Biriyani was generous and, more importantly, fresh, tasty, with succulent lamb chunks. Poppadoms & chapatis were top notch too. My wife's Paneer Tikka Masala was also excellent, texture & taste up there with the best. An excellent Pale Ale proved a perfect accompaniment. I settled up replete, with a broad smile - the value was simply outstanding. I believe "Curry Nights" are a speciality. Well worth seeking out.

This village, just outside Leicester is gorgeous, and the little pub tucked away on vicarage Lane is a great little spot to grab a drink and bite to eat. We had lamb burgers which were lovely. This is an old pub, and that’s part of the charm, its not a new build trying to look like an old pub. The landlord and locals were really friendly and welcoming and we spent a few hours there, nice outside areas to enjoy the sunshine. This isn’t part of a big chain, and I suspect doesn’t get much “passing trade” so needs the support of locals and visitors alike. I’d go back when I’m in the area.!

I came here as it was included on the Mild Trail. I found that it's hard to find being at the end of a tortuous twisting often one car wide route. Having said that it has a large car park and, on a hot and sunny afternoon, it is in a glorious location adjacent to and overlooking Barkby Brook (where beer barrels used to be cooled in past times - the tracks where they were held can still be seen and there's a plaque on the wall explaining about it). It is a Free House now. I was quickly served with Anstey Ales's Oatmeal Mild. It was quite quiet in the Pub with only a handful of people there but it was mid-afternoon so probably busier later? The owner was very hospitable and informative. He explained they have signed-up with Anstey Ales to carry their ales in future.

Defining Moment-The Brookside The sun swelled up in clearing sky as he stared out the window, At the emerald grass beyond the stream, along the hedgerow, After a long motorcycle ride North in drenching rain from London, To the ancient Midland field and village off the M-1. On the back of the one-lunger engine, a long wet gray afternoon, Heart reaching through the misty downpour to the next adventure, With firm resolve to keep leaving, keep surging into twilight, Finally meeting a welcome crowd in the pub downstairs last night. With the window slung wide open, his breath filled with moist air “I am truly home,” beyond the rain to the marrow soaking, More home than home, adopting or being adopted by the land, Once strode by unknown ancestors who could only think of leaving. Coming of age does not even begin to describe what it means, To possess the self for the first time, on your own dime, A more apt thought: “I am alive now and always, without time,” How can this, why should this, instant ever have to end? There in the moment hanging bare chested over the street, This moment has returned again and again, every September, Looking back, longing again, to be naïve, innocent, and free, Trying anxiously not to believe it is a curse to remember. Time is now, build new memory, then try to forget, The “you” then, is the “you” now, the future “you,” Open a window, breathing deeply in, peel off the longing, the regret, Soaring, alive, the seeker, the finder… forever is true. A pub that servers a good a hearty meal but lacks atmosphere and has limited beer on tap. This could be a hidden gem in the Leicestershire countryside and was, when I used to visit here as a child but my recent visit was, unfortunately, not all that thrilling. We sat in the beer garden which has now been cluttered with too many mismatched seats, ornaments and junk. The inside of the pub reflected what was found outside but also contained a faint smell of ‘damp dog’ and would have been overbearing if we sat inside. The only positive aspect of the venture was the food, excellent portion control and value for money.I hope the owner/manager takes this review as constructive criticism.
