The Old Bull's Head in Charnwood

Booked a table in the bar (dog friendly) for Sunday lunch. Really nice inside and we have been before but only for drinks. It was exceptionally busy when we arrived (2.45pm).. there was queue at the 'host station', but there was no host, so we waited for 10 minutes to get our table. Nice table in the window out of the way of the crowd.. we both ordered the beef roast. It looked nice when the waiter set it down but he was so quick to leave, we then had to find someone else for salt, pepper, mustard etc. Sadly, it was very poor.. it was 'tepid' at best, the beef very fatty, the yorkshire puddings were soggy, roast potatoes seemed to have been cooked for hours and we were served a very small portion of greens to share.. for £20 per head, this really should be each. It was almost impossible to catch a member of staff, it was so busy... and nobody came back to check how our meal was. we felt it was a case of "pack them in" at the expense of quality. The staff were clearly ran off their feet and under a lot of pressure. We left feeling deflated, disappointed and hungry...

Great Service today. It was incredibly busy but staff handled it well. No long waits and great food. We had the beef Sunday roasts which were cooked beautifully by Sam and Rebecca was absolutely charming.

Had a great roast with the family we were served by Will who helped us with allergies and very lovely chatting about Loughborough Uni. We’ll definitely be back!

Have just returned from a lovely meal which was the best 7oz fillet steak i have ever eaten. Cooked to perfection with all the trimmings and a friendly informal welcome from the staff. have been here many times but tonights Steak was perfect.

Sadly we had a really bad experience here from start to finish, a couple of weeks ago for my husband’s bday and our wedding anniversary. When we arrived we were not greeted warmly at all by the hostess, she was rude and cold when showing us to our table. We then waited a very long time for our drinks order to be taken while the waiter chatted to his friend. My husband asked for a beer off the menu to be told ‘we’ve just ran out’ and then was told the same with the next type of beer he ordered. So he settled for his 3rd choice. We should have left at this point to be honest. We noticed the table next to us also had a problem with their drinks order. The waiter asked if we would like colouring books etc for the kids which we said yes to, but they never arrived. The starters came and my husband’s prawns tasted of nothing but the rest were ok so we said nothing. Then straight after eating our starters, before the table was cleared, our mains arrived. The waiter was flustered as there was nowhere to put the plates with all the starter plates still everywhere. My main course I had to send back as the scallops and prawns were raw, cold and translucent. They did replace my meal to higher standard but by this point we were so annoyed by our ruined experience that I didn't enjoy it. We didn't order dessert as we just wanted to get out of there. The manager did refund us for my husbands starter and my main, but we still paid £90 for this awful meal and awful experience which honestly is a lot of money and we will never be returning. You go out to a ‘nice’ place like this for a nice stress free experience and this was just the opposite. Extremely disappointing and £90 out of pocket. Also didn't have a great selection of vegetarian/pescatarian options and I had to ask for one of the dishes to be adapted to remove the meat.

Enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Old Bulls Head to celebrate a family Birthday. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Will, our waiter was delightful and very attentive.

Having visited twice in the last week, the food has been really good both times. Lots of choice on the menus and a really high quality of food. Unfortunately, the service at the Old Bulls Head is really quite poor. Service is painfully slow, the method of ordering if sat in the bar area was not explained, and no one came to check in on the meal or ask if we needed any more drinks (we did!). On the second occasion (a table of 8) From ordering to eating, I think the starters took almost an hour to prepare which seems excessive even for the nicest food! Even as a table of 2, we waited close to 40 minutes for starters. A really nice atmosphere, nice food, but if service improved I think this place would be up there with my top 5 places to eat in the East Midlands.

First visit to The Old Bull, absolutely lovely evening. Tom our server was friendly and dealt with our order. They gave you time between each course to enjoy the wine before next course arrived at the table. Food was exceptional and will definitely be returning, as there were so many items on the menu we would like to try. Great service by everyone we spoke with.

Excellent Sunday roast, including a great vegetarian roast which is rare. Dog friendly in the bar area and staff even brought water for the dog. Obviously good as very popular.

The Old Bull’s Head has a real buzz to it and an excellent atmosphere. We visited at 18:30 on a Saturday night and there were already very few tables free so a reservation is essential. Our server, Tom, was friendly and attentive, and understood the menu well, which is always handy in a new place. There’s a good range of options on the menu and despite how busy it was, the food arrived pretty promptly, was beautifully presented and tasted excellent. We were visiting the area so unfortunately we’re unlikely to be able to return, which is a great pity as the Old Bull’s Head is a bit of a gem - lucky locals.

We had a table of 14 booked originally but one had pulled out. The restaurant was great about ot food was great too. Had a few minor errors that were corrected right away once pointed out. That is not a complaint just reference to how well they dealt with any mistakes or errors and we are all human it happens and how you deal with it is credit to this place. Our server was Noah he was great nothing was to much trouble and my family really loved how friendly and personable he was.

We recently booked the Old Bulls Head for our wedding reception after getting married at Beaumanor Hall. I can't recommend the restaurant enough! Me and my now husband were on quite a tight budget and Emma was so helpful in the advice she gave us to help minimise the costs without taking away from quality or experience of the day. The food for the buffet was absolutely delicious and the drink packages available made it affordable for everyone of our guests. Staff were there in the morning to let people in to set up and to drop of the cake off and it truly felt like 'nothing was too much' to ask. Even the day after where I forgot my bouquet (didn't realise until late the day after) and they kept in water for me! Thank you so much for giving us the most perfect wedding reception!

We hired the function room at the Old Bull's Head for a wedding reception and were not disappointed by our choice. The team looked after us incredibly well, the food was delicious and the pub was a lovely place to spend time with our new families!

I have just experienced a lovely meal here for a birthday celebration of 14 people. The Manager was on hand to make sure the table was just right, and not over crowded. Becky, the waitress that attended us through out the evening was amazing, never once did we have to ask her for anything ( she certainly had her beady eye on us for sure 😀) Most of the group had starters, mains and deserts. The food came together for everyone and was piping hot. A big thank you to all. Great food, great service and a great atmosphere.

We went for the wine and dine experience for my birthday it was fabulous and I thought great value for money..2 of us had scallops 1 had sticky chicken and 1 had squid for main we had chicken steak and belly pork all the food was delicious the wine that came with the package was lovely we had Will as our waiter he was very knowledgeable pleasant and very attentive 5 stars for him.The atmosphere is nice all round great place to eat and drink will be returning in a few weeks.

I really enjoyed my evening at the Bulls Head, Woodhouse with our friends whom one was celebrating a 65th birthday. It was a fabulous deal meal.! Our waiter was a lovely lad called Will he was so knowledgeable regarding the menu and explained the different dishes and wine. My husband had the scallop starter but I had the squid which was so nice. For our mains we chose the rib eye steak & barbecue chicken with a sauce…so so delicious. My husband had a chocolate bomb sweet & I exchanged my sweet for a cocktail 🍸. Such a great deal and we all agreed well worth the money.

Didn't even get the opportunity to eat. We sat for 30 minutes and no one took our food order. Ignorant waitress that seem to think it was amusing when we left without eating. Won't be returning.

Good menu with a variety of choices. The padron peppers have a very tasty sauce. Extensive drinks menu. Will looked after us extremely well. He was friendly, engaging and nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely evening thanks to all.

Nice stop after a very long walk the place was nice and clean didn't have any food but the menu looked ok there was only one problem there run out of bitter so one of use had have larger but these things happen nice garden to sit in and chat would go back and try the food

This place simply isn’t the same as it was. You could rely on quality food and service. I’d say it’s now similar to a Hungry Horse pub. A shame.

Great experience. Superb ambience. It was a Saturday but, despite being very busy, the service was impeccable and the food all well presented and delicious. Our server, Will, was a most pleasant chap indeed. Very impressed and will definitely return.

We had our wedding lunch at the Old Bulls Head for a party of 40. Every single thing was perfect, Lauren was outstanding also the staff that were serving us throughout our meal. The booking was easy and they accommodated everything I’d requested, the 3 course meal was all piping hot, on time and absolutely outstanding. Our whole party could not stop complimenting the service and how good the food was and still are a week later. Would highly recommend to anybody, it truly made our day the best it could have been and we can’t thank you all enough. Thank you so much - Rob & Paige xx

Great meal. Lovely pub, I was disappointed with how loud it was however the food made up for it. Was very busy for a 1930 reservation.

10/10 for a Sunday Roast!! I tried the chicken and thoroughly enjoyed my meal, I’ll definitely be visiting again once the food coma has vanished!! The lady who seated us kindly paired the roast chicken with Chardonnay 👌🏽 Isabella then served us the food and looked after us from this point. So friendly ☺️

Loved your restaurant.. excellent food excellent service but unfortunately we were sat in an area next to children.. lots of empty tables in other areas where family’s could enjoy other families and be all together with their children .. we paid £145.00 for a meal which we really enjoyed but were constantly distracted by children playing and moving chairs around etc .. other tables of four and two were making comments .. come on bulls head get your act together .. keep everyone happy and put in segregated areas.. we will be back but will be asking where you will br seating is in future …

Celebrated a birthday here. Our waiter Noah was fantastic and helped us have a great evening. Food was excellent.

A friend and I came for dinner and drinks on Fri 9 Aug and was served by the lovely Noah. Absolutely couldn’t fault the food or the service, nothing was too much trouble and Noah was so personable and friendly. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the items on the menu!

Nice pub great food and service it was quiet as it was euro finals, this pub is on the outskirts of the town but well worth a visit

Went for a graduation meal celebration yesterday.Absolutely fantastic. Could not fault anything..the food,the service,the ambience.All really lovely. They did charge us for complimentary graduate champagne but quickly resolved it without question. Would highly recommend.

We love popping in here for a quick drink on the way home, snacking on the range of small plates or booking for a lovely lunch or evening meal.

Had my 62 guest wedding meal on 6th July 2024. The staff were superb and the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend. Noah, one of the waiters, was extremely friendly and always had a smile on his face.

Just like to thank all the staff for the wonderful service at the wedding reception we attended. The food was excellent and nothing was to much trouble. A special mention to Noah who definatley went above and beyond and put a smile on our faces with his customer services. What a disappointment ! Shown to our table at 2.05 pm for Sunday Lunch. Very quickly served with drinks , and food order taken by 2.15pm. Then it all went downhill. Meals arrived around 2.50pm on hot plates, but the food was well overcooked and cold. My trio of roast meats comprised of a small chicken leg, one small slice of hard beef and a 4inch by 2inch piece of pork. My wife had 4 slices of beef which were overcooked and hard. No member of staff came over to check on us either during the meal or even after we had finished. At 3.45pm, by which time we were the only occupants of that section of the restaurant, I had to go looking for a staff member to attend to us, so that the table could be cleared. As we were now well past ordering a desert, we ordered 2 coffees. These came with one of them badly spilt into the saucer. If we hadn't insisted, that would have been left as it was. The young girl took the cup and saucer away, and returned with a clean saucer , but with the original cup which was half full and streaked with coffee down the sides. Then, once again we were left to our own devices in the empty area of the restaurant. I then had to wander off to the desk to ask for the bill. This was presented and I paid. The staff did not speak or even acknowledge our presence as we left. We have visited the Bull on several occasions and always enjoyed the food and service, so we are not just complaining for the sake of it. Todays food and most of the service was appalling. Why ? Sunday lunch and a good service is not rocket science. It totally spoilt our day.

Fantastically spacious bar and eating area. I didn't eat here myself but the food looked delicious and was expertly presented. You can tell that everyone that works here takes pride in what they do.
