We sat and had table service. Getting served was good but receiving the food was slow. Food was very good though. Many gluten free options here. The burgers were amazing! Lovely little pub. Be sure to register your numberplate with the bar even if you have a disabled badge or you will get a fine.

Important :- VERY RECENTLY UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. My Mum and I made an impromptu visit here and we were happy we did. I live two hours away and my Mum hadn't been here before so it was pot luck, but turned out to be a good choice. We were warmly greeted by Leo first and later by his vivacious wife, Bex, not only is she an excellent chef, Bex is a great 'host', in fact her and Leo make a great duo. Their ethos is just great. Our food arrived swiftly, piping hot and really nicely presented. Nachos, then really crispy, tasty deep fried scampi and vegetable lasagne. Our only disappointment was that the the chips are only the 'skinny' type and we love a chunky chip, but that's just personal preference so we skipped having the chips. My Mum had raspberry and apple crumble for pudding which she said was delicious, I was too full up to have a full pudding and had hoped she wouldn't be able to eat it all and I could have a taste, but no! This pub is superb for sports enthusiasts as they have a number of large televisions, it's great for young people and families in particular I would say, but accommodates all very well. Overall a lovely experience. Parking is easy in Lady Lane car park very close by to the Market Square. I would highly recommend this pub, Leo and Bex are doing a great job.

Quiet Thursday visit, but friendly, lots of TVs for sports, darts and automated dart virual setup which is cool. Chef was brilliant, made us some lovely fresh food, and tailored it to what we wanted! Recommend the food, looking forward to trying the roast!

The worst pub restaurant food we have experienced, we waited about an hour after ordering for fairly basic pub food, so expected something half decent. The ceaser salad was swimming in an inch of water and the steak and ale pie was like a lump of concrete. The staff were quite friendly and gave our dog some water, which was helpful as it helped wash down some of the pie we gave her. The salad had to be left, so basically £26 down the drain. The beer and pepsi were fine.

Awful experience from the service. To start the wine bottle we ordered was off, it is fizzy, when going back to ask for a replacement we were confronted with an extremely rude lady who flicked the bottle top off and made me feel upset and threatened by her response. Do not visit this pub.

Brilliant location in the heart of Alton. A stones throw from the play park and parking. The food was standard pub grub - delicious burgers. We were made to feel extremely welcome. The pub has plenty of seating. There is a pool table, darts board and an abundance of board games and colouring for all to enjoy. It was perfect for our group, which consisted of 6 adults and 6 (very hyper) kids! Good selection of drinks, and very reasonably priced. Super friendly and helpful staff.

We chose this pub as a middle point for our family meet up. The staff went above and beyond for us all, catering for our son who is coeliac and my father in law, whose 95th birthday is on Tuesday. The cakes were a very lovely and touching surprise from you, and we very much appreciated it. The food was also great and your hospitality too! Thankyou, again guys. We will return. 😍

The kitchen had an issue with food supply which the bar staff and kitchen staffed discussed at the bar. No issues until we over heard this from our table, coming up with excuses to give us as to why they couldn’t serve food. They didn’t have enough time to defrost the food we ordered we heard. They proceeded to tell us the extractor fan wasn’t working and we could have a refund, not an apology, just a refund. After mentioning politely to the bar staff, we were called rude not directly, but once again we can hear everything from our table. 10/10 would recommend

OK, we were there for a lunch at 2pm on Sunday and everyone else may have gone - but we (11 of us) were the only people in a very dreary restaurant. Poor (almost non existent) decorations in the restaurant. Very boring menu - burgers/ pizza/ fried fish etc and not at all good when it came. On the plus side the staff were friendly, but it did not set us up well for our family Christmas outing to the Watercress line Christmas train ride.

Had the worse Christmas meal ever. The turkey was cheap and nasty turkey roll the vegetables were not cooked everthing was cold 🥶. The waitresses did there best to serve but were over whelmed. The barman could not pour a half pint shandy! The only beer on offer was Doombar and they could mot make a bloody mary. The decor is cheap and nasty in keeping with the rest of the pub. You felt the sticky carpet on your shoes. This used to be a sports pub till a few months ago. They have s long way to go before they can make it great pub. Along with other pubs, the Wheatsheaf was open only for those sitting outside. During Spring, the Market Square gets more & more sunshine, through summer & then tapers off in Autumn. All the benches outside were full & there was a great sense of community & enjoyment. I'm sure that as things get back to how it was before the pandemic, business will pick up dramatically. I was with a friend & felt so good to be able to have a pint together. I'm pretty sure it will rate 4 or 5 stars soon.

Very disappointing evening. At a first glance the makeover is good. However several tables hadn’t been cleared and the bar was covered with dirty glasses. After waiting ages, our starter was brought at the same timed as the mains. The vegetables we ordered had been swapped over, so we each got the other’s. All around us food was being delivered to the wrong tables and then being removed before being taken all round the bar, while the waitress asked people if the food was theirs. The food was ok, but we certainly won’t be returning.

What a wonderful find! I asked my friends who live in the area to take me out to a good pub meal. They suggested The Temple Inn. They had been previously and had the Hungarian Waldorf Salad and the Goulash and raved about it. Oh my gosh. From the warm and friendly welcome to the cosy village pub vibe, a warm heartening fire crackling nicely to chase the winter chills away, this pub is a sure thing. The food though, that’s what sets this pub apart!! It’s so good. The pub has a Hungarian family running it and the influence is found throughout the menu and in the food. Classic pub grub is definitely all there, including the ubiquitous Steak and Ale pie, which I had. The meat was spiced perfectly, the gravy was so delicious and the mash melted in my mouth. The vegetables were steamed for clean flavours and still had a healthy bite to them. My friends had the carrot soup as main and roast lamb. Even though it wasn’t on the menu I asked for Garlic Bread which the team happily provided. It was so fresh and delicious. I have the feeling the make their own bread - but cannot confirm this. Both were very tasty and well prepared. My Pie was the winner though. Dora and Agnes are charming hosts and I absolutely would make a detour to stop and eat here again. (In fact it was so good we all went back the next day for lunch!!!!)

Sunday Lunch 2:30 and they didn’t have the following:- - Cocktail - Lamb Roast - Turkey Roast He the only roast left on the menu Beef. Arrived beef, advertised as served pink and served with cauliflower cheese, came with no cauliflower cheese and 5mm slab of tough burnt beef. Gravy was served later and the tap water was warm and not very nice. Staff were very apologetic, atmosphere could have been good if meal matched decor. Not the pleasant Sunday meal I promised my wife
