Great Oak in East Hampshire

Very helpful & friendly staff, who where all great with our kids :)

We arrived back in Petersfield yesterday evening after an overnight stay in Croydon to attend a funeral. We were very impressed with the meal, the atmosphere and the service. Our waitress, Beth, was wonderful, so helpful and attentive. We would certainly recommend the Great Oak to others.

Friendly staff helpful food was just right the deserts wher plentiful all in all was a very good evening with friends who also enjoyed there meals

Beth made our visit. She was so kind to our daughter and I've never had experience like this before at a beefeater. Genuinely great food, fast service, polite people and so glad we didn't stop at a McDonald's or anything like that. Worth the stop there!

Food was dry, service was slow, waited 17 minutes from receiving the bill to actually paying, unacceptable service for a Friday lunch.

Darcy was great! Quick and polite service. Food was also fast and delicious. Prices were also fair.

Great front of house staff are let down by a lacklustre menu and a kitchen that needs direction. Garlic bread had barely any taste and was soggy and limp. The breaded mushrooms were bland. The main courses were disappointing and only the deserts saved the food from being a complete disaster. Won't be returning but again... the front of house staff were brilliant.

Had a lovely family meal last night and Robyn our waitress was very helpful and friendly. Food and drink brilliant, highly recommend the Gt Oak and all staff.

Had a lovely evening at the Great Oak, with a good choice on the menu that caters to all dietary requirements. The food was prepared very quickly, was well presented, and tasted lovely. The service was the outstanding that we received from a lovely young lady[Maxine], who was knowledgeable and very friendly and went out of her way to make sure that we had everything we needed. Well done to all the staff and we shall definitely be returning...😃

Very friendly staff and good service. Nice atmosphere and music playing. Food was quite good however my steak was a bit pink. Apart from that very good and will come back!

Closed at 10 pm without any real explanation why, very disappointing. Portions incredibly stingy, didn't realise potatoes were a luxury food item.

Usually good service and food here but today the wait to be served for main meal, and desert was inordinately long. Very short staffed and the restaurant was not really busy. Other customers getting similarly irrated. Main course lacking one component and the food was only just acceptably hot.

Wish I had don't gone there. Food was that bad none of the 3 of us could eat it

We had a table booked for 7 people, the food was good as always, the prices were great & our waitress, Maxine was very friendly, helpful & done her job with a big smile. We will be going back.

Food wasn't great. Steak was the fattiest thing I've seen for a while. It was the hottest and the 2 tables either side of us actually sent their meals back to the kitchen as they were cold. The server (Robyn) was a positive during the visit. She couldn't help enough.

Arrived shown to table quickly. Orders taken. Got them wrong. Asked service staff (young gentleman) to find out where the gluten which was ordered had got to(ten minutes ago) and to to get one out party's order for extra breakfast. He ignored it. I then asked him again 10 minutes later. He ignored that. Fed up of waiting and watching him clear tables we left. If I hadn't prepaid I would have paid less

We arrived and were served with a smile by a very efficient young man. We ordered and our food came out with good time. The food was hot . My food was sufficient, my wife ordered a steak n ale pie, of which was well under par . We quietly complained, the young server , was on the ball , all was sorted without any problems. The breakfast was superb, good quality ingredients. The waitress, had a great sence of humour, with a good local knowledge. All in all I can recommend this pub/restaurant. Adjacent to the Premier Inn, of which was clean well sticked and lovely beds n pillows. 😀

Decided to try it one moor time and yes you guessed it. Food was unedible once again Will never have food there again

I don't think the chefs care I don't think the waitresses wanted us there from the start The scrambled egg wasn't mixed throughly and over cooked I don't know how the poached eggs get cooked I think they must be steamed in the convention oven they were like hard boiled eggs the sausage over cooked the hash brown had been cooked for a few hours they were over cooked hard and dry I'm sure it's not easy lots to do but I just want a good breakfast, the toast coffee and juice was nice but the main event was poor ,

I find the portions to be a little small, but always well cooked/prepared food. My plant based roast was a sad looking little plate!

The young lady who served us was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I wish I had taken her name.

A nice, comfortable bar .. evening bar man could’ve been more welcoming. Morning staff very helpful and friendly at breakfast.

For a traditional meat establishment I think Beefeater does a good job in providing several, tasty vegan options. 20 years ago I would have probably bought a steak here, and so it is positive that I can still enjoy a meal here. Server Maxine was excellent.

Went for a late lunch here today with some family. Service was very good (quick, but not rushed) and each staff member we spoke to was polite, accommodating to whatever we needed and looked generally pleased to be there. They also asked about allergies/intolerances as soon as we arrived. The food was excellent, as we've come to learn from Beefeater. Steaks were cooked exactly as requested and the pulled beef extra on the side of my ribs was something else... Could have had a whole plate of that! Definitely recommend coming here... Will certainly be going back 👍

Had a fantastic,tasty,starter and main each at the Great Oak on Saturday.Offer of 2 courses for £15 ! Prawn cocktail followed by rack of ribs that fell off the bone.Considering the rib meal was £17.99 on the menu it was brilliant value.Including a free bottle of wine as we had converted reward points.Our favourite restaurant locally by far.Excellent service and atmosphere too.

We had an afternoon meal here which was great. Wife had a great fillet steak and I had a pie which was awesome. Staff were very good. However the breakfast was carnage! The pub is next to a premier Inn and they clearly couldn’t cope with the demand. 10 minutes queuing to get in, 50 minutes to wait before cooked breakfast delivered. No apologies and staff running round like headless chickens. Breakfast was poor which is such a shame.

Couldn’t fault it! Staff were amazing, friendly and accommodating, especially friendly and fun with my daughter. The young lad that served us was very informative and gave brilliant service. Food was great at an amazing price. 2 courses after 5pm Monday to Friday for £14.95 (something like that). Location just off the motorway and easy to get too. Thank you!

The Great Oak in Petersfield is a firm favourite of ours. It’s a 32 mile round trip for us but it isn’t often we find a menu that caters for a family with very mixed tastes, Beefeater hit the spot for all of our family. I tried the Flame grill combo for the first time and was so glad I did, the hot link sausage is a very tasty treat and highly recommend 👍🏼 Maxine excelled with a warm welcoming smile and the perfect balance of service, a credit to Beafeater. See you for Fathers Day 🍽

Thoroughly underwhelming experience at the weekend. Our meals arrived only just warm, this was because they were sat waiting for us to finish our starter. A starter which had been forgotten, and never arrived. Food was ok quality, however, without the discount voucher, it would have bee poor value for money. We weren’t asked if we would like any additional drinks, even though one was a “unlimited refill” Although the staff were friendly, there’s clearly some training issues that need addressing.

We were there for 2 nights, first breakfast was fine and well managed but our second breakfast was just awful for both the customers and staff (only 2 ladies having to deal with the whole restaurant including taking and delivering ALL hot breakfasts). I sincerely hope these ladies were rewarded for their hard work. Still people were waiting up to 40 minutes for orders. I hope they get their staffing problem sorted out.

Main meal was like a school dinner- fortunately I enjoy my schools meals! As the evening proceeded we all got really cold. Our waitress was lovely.

Mum was so helpfully when my car broke down by the pub, feeding my dog sausages and George looked after the keys for the RAC man. Many Many thanks to Mums superb team and excellent chef......

Avoid!! Rubbish rude staff. My 1 year old son had some veg sticks (cucumber and red pepper) that I wouldn't even give an animal. It was embarrassing the cucumber wasn't even wet or the pepper where they had dried out that much. Loads of things not available on the menu! Service was rubbish. We got up and left after the terrible starters had come out! We then went to the rusty cutter in bedhamton as the kids were sad and upset about not getting what we ordered. Highly recommended The Rusty Cutter. Service was amazing, food had care put into it all and the lady that was serving us was lovely. So if you want somewhere nice to go The Rusty Cutter is lovely and avoid The Great Oak!!!!

My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and decided to have lunch at this lovely place. Our waiter George was simply wonderful. He showed us the best spot in the restaurant area, provided the allergies information and checked that my choices from the menu were acceptable for my needs. I had a mouthwatering salmon salad and a delicious vegan ice-cream and fruit sorbet for dessert. At the end we were given a Happy anniversary card with a small box of chocolates. All in all a very nice experience and I highly recommend this place to anybody reading this comment.

Nice and friendly but the servers were swamped being Mother's Day. All in all good but they forgot my roast potatoes and didn't have the heart to bring it to our servers attention.

Lovely meal except should of had roast newies tossed with peas and onions with lamb chops but just got newies and peas!

6 of us met for lunch and had a very enjoyable time. The staff were very attentive and the food was great. The tables were nicely spaced out.

Roast dinner average, steak overcooked, brought wrong type of chips, ran out of quite a few things on the menu so not much was available.

Food was good, very fair prices and a special shout out for our server Louise G as she was very lovely, helpful and provided an excellent service. The best beefeater I have been to so far. Very Covid-19 conscious, sanitiser available and seated suitably away from others.

Went for a Su day roast at around 2pm, lovely floor staff and the starter were nice .... came to the meal and the potatoes were like rubber and the parsnips rock hard, like they had been warmed up after sitting for ages, we left most of our main meals. Such a shame as the kitchen staff let the whole experience down. The manager was good and refunded our meals but went away hungry. We usually use my local beefeater at Milton Didcot, never had a bad meal there yet, hence stopping at another Beefeater whilst away visiting family.

This is our regular food place and we keep going back because it's very pleasant

Set 3 course meal, food mediocre. Nothing I could eat on pudding menu, so asked for a coffee instead and was charged extra. Not planning to go back.

I called in for breakfast with my Daughter aged 14 3 weeks ago. We wanted breakfast & as a single parent we use Beefeater on the Buy an Adult Breakfast & a child eats free promotion, because I have to operate on a tight budget. I live in Hertfordshire & have to travel to Southsea nr Portsmouth every fortnight to collect my daughter from the Hovercraft terminal for her weekend with me. It costs me a lot of money for petrol, a hotel room to stay down in Hampshire & meals. So I manage my budget carefully. That Saturday morning I called into the Great Oak for our breakfast & was told by a girl on the till they they were not accepting walk ins at the Great Oak as they were fully booked with weekend guests staying over at the Premier Inn & the kitchen couldn’t cope. We were turned away. This was shocking & I was made to feel like a 2nd class citizen. How can the Great Oak Beefeater selectively choose who to allow in on a Promotion? I feel positively discriminated against. Not impressed at all.

Staff don't make you feel very welcome. Had to go to them for the bill didn't check if we were ok no dessert menu offered very poor customer service

Staff were friendly and efficient, but this doesn't make up for rubbery chicken, burnt ribs and simply horrible mushroom risotto.

I take my mum up there once a month for a meal and it is so nice the staff are always happy and friendly its a really nice place.

Modern and convenient (just off the A3 and just outside Petersfield) the menus are varied and the food is well presented and tasty. The food is not cheap but not particularly expensive either. Lots of parking too.

I recently visited for dinner with some old friends very polite staff the waitress who served us was lovely but I didn't catch her name, and even the barman 'Murray' was very polite and helpful when choosing which gin we should all have. We will definitely be returning soon as the food and service was A++

Food is OK, but when you stay at Premier Inn for more than 2 nights it becomes a bit limited. Service is mixed, some good, some not so good!
