Cafe 1759 in East Hampshire

Update Jan 2020: Despite there being 4 members of staff behind the counter doing nothing, table hadn't been cleaned and was covered in cake crumbs. Ordered a latte and surprise, surprise it was lukewarm and was sent back. Friend then arrived and ordered two more coffees and once again they were served lukewarm. This is pretty basic stuff and really should be sorted by now. Update Nov 2023: Wow, what a transformation! A change of management/staff? Anyway, Cafe 1759 is vastly improved. Good food, good (hot!) coffee, great service. Just needs some comfier seating. Recommended. Update May 2024. Oh dear. Things have taken a down turn again. Out of coffee!!! Very limited menu as they were also out of most things on the menu. Couldn't someone nip to Lidl? Plus couldn't order an alternative from the breakfast menu as it was past 11:30! Won't be returning any time soon.

A regular visitor to their community shop, not such a regular visitor to the cafe side of the establishment. A wet and windy lunchtime saw a few empty tables, we decided to sample their wares. Piping hot pot of tea and a bacon, Brie and cranberry toasty with a side of salad and a generous dollop of homemade coleslaw was my order , delicious it was too. The staff are lovely with a chat and a smile for everyone. Looking out of the window, the weather was relentless but inside it was lovely and warm. Lunch and drinks for two for £17, a lovely mid week treat. 5 egg omelette! And bacon, Brie and cranberry toastie.

Basic good food. Service a bit slow but bearable.

Love love love this place! Such great food, coffee, service, surroundings, and most of all, ethos! Lovely people working here. Also, THE best vegan breakfast this side of Farnham! Parking situation is the only downside but it’s a nice little walk if you can’t be bothered to work out where and when you can and can’t park from the signs!

Nice community driven Café. The food was nice. Good value not too expensive as it is subsidised. Would be nice if more seating available. Remember to register your car when parking. Free 1 hr parking.

Excellent cakes at reasonable prices. Hot drinks on par with other local cafés. Was just us when we went together with our infant in pushchair, but I imagine might get crowded and loud on busy days.

Disappointed with staff attitude

Soup disappointing, very watery and tasteless. Was nearly 1pm and they had only got two lots left but it was as if the topped it up with water to make two portions.

Nice place to come for a breakfast. Gets busy on a Saturday morning and can wait longer for food but it's worth it. Friendly staff too.

Love it here! We’ve only had the breakfasts so far which have been top notch but we will definitely be back to try what else is on offer! The staff are lovely and the cafe itself has a really nice atmosphere. This is definitely going to become a regular of ours!

Good afternoon went there with my son David it was my first time there we had a full English Breakfast i would go back again

Went to the cafe for breakfast after a local park run. Really friendly, polite and helpful. With out door seating in a quite location I had a Yummy breakfast and a big pot of tea. Only issue I had was find the place, and parking as non allocated. Park on the main road of the estate and walk to the cafe only a minute or two to get there. Totally worth it.

Love it here. Good food with a community focus and not for profit makes it even better! Parking around the side by the houses is convenient, and the whole estate is lovely to walk around.

Lovely place polite efficient staff However people being allowed in without face masks, even though there is signage around the place. I understand that staff will not challenge these ignorant people, but surely they could point out the notices even though they are staring you in the face. I'm in mind not to visit again.....sad really as I have been here many times before.

A lovely modern cafe with friendly staff and a locally sourced menu. Food has always been beautifully made and a good range of meat and vegetarian options. Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxed environment to chill and enjoy company

Good quality food and very well priced, I love the concept behind this not for profit community cafe. However, the young staff are not on top of cleanliness/service - dirty empty tables, even though the cafe was not busy, plus no attempt was made to provide a menu or to take our order. What could be a fantastic place for the community to come together is just... okay.

Fab cafe. Excellent service, with a smile. Food usually really lovely but today my mushrooms were not cooked enough and the bacon was just OK. But, really recommend coming here.

I visited 1759 with friends for a late lunch and it was empty with two waitresses behind the counter. There was our table and one other occupied and the place was filthy. The tables certainly hadn't been cleaned and kept up to standards expected in the current time. The music was to suit the standards to of the young waitress who played on her phone for the majority of the time we were there. The hot drinks were luke warm and the food OK! I have visited 1759 on many occasions and I have to admit I was extremely disappointed. I appreciate protocols are slightly different right now but I would still expect a certain level of cleanliness along and to bot watch a waitress on her phone!

I don't like giving bad reviews at all, but always try to be fair. We came here to try and support a local, social enterprise, but to be honest I won't return. We ordered two breakfasts, one latte and one hot chocolate. There is no way that should have taken over an hour, even if they were busy. I could have made a better job. On my breakfast, which arrived wrong the first time around, the has browns were under cooked and not remotely crispy, and I had to pour off the greasy scrambled egg water, see picture. My coffee was also practically cold. The sad thing is, the produce was clearly good quality, it had just been handled by someone who had no idea how to cook. The poor lady in charge had been well and truly hung out to dry. Its all very well running a social enterprise, but you have to give people the right skills. Not doing so will demoralise, not empower people.

Lovely little gem of a cafe. Great coffee and cakes which are great. Also caters for gluten free and other dietary requirements.

My wife went here today Tuesday 11th February 2020. She w by with my 3 year old and she wished she never bothered. Prices are ridiculous and my daughter was being a bit of a pain. The staff gave my wife judging looks the entire time. My wife so uncomfortable that she felt she had to leave. She and I will never go here again!

A good underrated cafe in Bordon, strongly shows the development of the town situated in a nice quiet area. Ample parking is not available, but this is not an issue if you are a local. Food was good, prices are not extortionate.

The pancakes are just supermarket brought mini pancakes, I was expecting home made thick pancakes but these where the size of a coaster. The Pancakes where also cold, I expect better to be honest.Its a nice setting and the coffee was nice so I hope they change the pancakes to home made if they read this.

Enthusiastic and polite, but poor, service. Milk not offered for coffee, order incorrect, no cutlery provided. All small things but adds up to a bad impression. Server was busy checking why order was wrong (even though I said I'd take it) and neglected to bring cutlery because of it. Learn what needs to be a priority and do that until its finished. THEN worry about the non essential stuff.

Had a few problems finding the cafe and where to park (parking:bay on rhs about 75yds from main road turn, cafe:cross rd by parking, keep yr back to bay, go to end of first row of houses, turn L, to end, turn R cafe down steps).Once there was made welcome and had a really nice pumpkin soup and, what has to be, the best cheese scone I've ever tasted!

We were passing and saw the sign on the main road. After a bit of a tour round the housing estate we found the cafe - just near the entrance road. It is a bright and airy building with comfortable tables and friendly and efficient staff. The tea and cake (I had the coffee and walnut) was excellent. It is certainly worth the little detour to try 1759.

I visited the cafe for lunch with a friend and was extremely appalled by one of the chefs, he stood out at the front of the cafe and stared at us, making us both very uncomfortable. The pancakes were amazing but the chef ruined the whole experience

I went once alone, some months ago. Cafe was not busy, but struggled to get the attention of the staff to order a coffee. Decided to try them again today with a friend. My friend tried to order a herbal tea. The tea-menu blackboard referred us to the waitress. The waitress referred us back to the blackboard. This cycle continued until we persuaded her to read her own blackboard.I ordered a slice of cake from the 2 slices left. When my friend's food arrived, she then served the remaining two slices to subsequent customers before I could comment, and left the room.Having decided I didn't want to give this business any more money, and that she hadn't charged for at least the cake, if not more if our order, i decided not to bother arguing about it, and left. This whole time, two staff members sat chatting in the corner, though i assume they were on a break.In fairness, my friend was content with his food, though noone thought to check.
