Lovely little village pub. Plenty of parking and food is superb. Steak and red wine pie is divine. Love the raspberry brulee and Hungarian custard slice for dessert. Very attentive and friendly service. Highly recommended

Outstanding food, wonderful welcome, friendly and efficient with a great ambiance. It is dog and child friendly but will tuck you away if you ask if it’s not your thing. If specials are on don’t miss them gyros are historic and as for Sunday lunch well amazing. Hungarian twist to foods really works but still regular roasts, burgers etc Sticky toffee pudding not bad either!!

Visited with a large party for a midweek dinner. Despite the kitchen being small, the management didn't insist on pre-ordering which we really appreciated (although they advised us to let them know in advance if we wanted someone off the specials board) Dora and Mercy were super welcoming as usual, the food was really good-pub classics, healthy and vegetarian options and Some amazing Hungarian food. I had goulash soup with crusty bread and a slice of Zoltan's amazing honey cake. I come here regularly and have never had a bad meal. Highly recommended.

I visited this pub today and had the best belly of pork I have ever tasted. The fat was rendered beautifully and there was a layer of gorgeous crackling on the top. The Hungarian custard slice was to die for and although we were a party of 10, the service was fantastic with us all paying individually by a very slick and ingenious method.

The Hungarian gulash is amazing. Will come back soon. Thank you.

What a wonderful find! I asked my friends who live in the area to take me out to a good pub meal. They suggested The Temple Inn. They had been previously and had the Hungarian Waldorf Salad and the Goulash and raved about it. Oh my gosh. From the warm and friendly welcome to the cosy village pub vibe, a warm heartening fire crackling nicely to chase the winter chills away, this pub is a sure thing. The food though, that’s what sets this pub apart!! It’s so good. The pub has a Hungarian family running it and the influence is found throughout the menu and in the food. Classic pub grub is definitely all there, including the ubiquitous Steak and Ale pie, which I had. The meat was spiced perfectly, the gravy was so delicious and the mash melted in my mouth. The vegetables were steamed for clean flavours and still had a healthy bite to them. My friends had the carrot soup as main and roast lamb. Even though it wasn’t on the menu I asked for Garlic Bread which the team happily provided. It was so fresh and delicious. I have the feeling the make their own bread - but cannot confirm this. Both were very tasty and well prepared. My Pie was the winner though. Dora and Agnes are charming hosts and I absolutely would make a detour to stop and eat here again. (In fact it was so good we all went back the next day for lunch!!!!)

First time @ this pub for lunch and will definitely be returning. Food was delicious, service was friendly, professional and efficient the people were lovely. The Hungarian Goulash was exceptional. Nice twist on pub fare.

Went for Sunday Lunch with friends. We booked and got the last table! Great to see the pub full with a great atmosphere. Food was fabulous and even though they were very busy we did not have to wait long for our roast lamb to arrive. Highly recommended for service and great value delicious food. Steve

Went in for refreshment after taking our dog for walk. The Temple is dog friendly and he was made very welcome with drinks and treats! We also had small lunch and coffee, all very tasty and well presented. Will definitely return.

Great food and service in local village pub.

We visited with our daughter as it was her birthday together with her two children. The food is excellent and the vegetarian choice was really good. The staff are very friendly and they have a good range of beer and wine. We would certainly recommend this pub and as it is within cycling distance we will be visiting it more in the future.

Wonderful pub, great service and the food is wonderful. The steaks here are second to none and I had risotto. Cannot recommend highly enough.

The standard of food turned out by the chef here is extraordinary I have eaten steak all over the world and have never had better The colour and marbling and flavour is better than any Wagyu and Kobe I’ve ever tasted, amazing Great selection of wines especially the Hungarian reds We live in Portugal but whenever we’re in Hampshire this is our first place to visit and time and again it delights!

Absolutely fabulous, bit of a queue for the bar or would have got a five but overall excellent. Food choice brilliant and innovative and gyros were outstanding! Lovely people staff friendly and willing. Prices good highly recommended

Small and smart pub with pleasant garden (tables, parasols), decking (fairy lights) and inside areas. Polite and helpful staff. Consistently enjoyable food from reasonably wide menu. Above standards of larger pub chains in my opinion. A little pricey, but everyone needs to make a living, especially these days. Well worth a try.

Great mid-week meal here. Service excellent and food too. Shared starter of pâté, plenty for two, pate , bread, chutney and dressed salad. Mains of pork belly and sirloin steak - generous amount of peppercorn sauce included. Dessert of lemon cheesecake - beautifully presented and raspberry crème brûlée with perfect caramelised top! Really grateful to have such a great pub in our village - excellent choice of food, beautifully cooked and presented.

Excellent Sunday roast. We went quite late in the day so the pub was quite empty, hence the lower score for atmosphere.

Just enjoyed today a really lovely Sunday roast at The Temple Liss. I had roast Lamb which had seasonal vegetables, roasted potatoes and a large homemade Yorkshire pudding...the food was hot and also served on a heated plate, that always makes a difference in my opinion ...the gravy was rich tasty and flavoursome and vegetables cooked so they were not over or underdone...the lamb itself was tender and slightly pink just how it should be!!... My friend had the roast chicken and agreed they enjoyed it as well...the service was attentive and nothing was too much trouble...we also stayed for desserts which were also good...I had the chocolate cheesecake with summer berries which was yum!!...highly recommend and will be back again as was certainly worth the money for a quality Sunday roast and dessert.

We live locally to The Temple Inn, Liss Forest. It is brilliant to see the Temple open again, as it was closed for a very long time. The family that run the pub are very friendly and the food is very, very good, in fact excellent. Hungarian foods are very tasty, their Hungarian Soup is so delicious, as are all the other meals both traditional pub food and the more specialist foods my wife and I along with friends agree that it is certainly the best pub food for many, many miles around. Check opening times on their website before venturing there. Friday evenings and weekends can get busy, but it Is no wonder as the food is so good. Highly recommended. 5 *****'s across the board . The food here is as good as, if not better than, anywhere else I have eaten locally lately. Tasty, fresh, beautifully presented. It looks unassuming from the outside and perhaps doesn’t have the charisma of other establishments locally but….the food is to die for. Try it

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here with a friend. Dora and her daughter were quietly welcoming and friendly. The roast beef was amazing, beautifully pink (my friend's was well done on request) and the portions were very generous with some lovely roasted vegetables and masses of gravy. I couldn't resist the cheesecake which was also delicious. Would definitely go again and will recommend to friends.

If anyone loves a Sunday roast then THIS has to be your main port of call… the roast is beyond sensational (all the food is throughout the week also) .. cannot fault a mouthful…

The 'Hungarian lamb stew' was special of the day and really very very special. Great local pub and good beers.

Have eaten here several times recently and can’t fault it in anyway - Sirloin steak, Pork Belly, risotto, salmon , sausages , lamb, burger, custard slice, sticky toffee pudding all excellent taste and quality.

We visited the temple for a Sunday lunch for the first time since it reopened and we will be back for sure! We were made to feel very welcome. The food was some of the best food we have had out in a long time and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Would highly recommend the baked prawn starter and the salmon main course.

Lovely food, Pan Seared Salmon, very busy and serviced was great, we were warned about a possible delay but didn't notice it. Attentive cheerful staff, a lot to like.

I honestly could not fault the experience of the lunch we enjoyed on Saturday lunchtime. Very welcoming and friendly service and food was excellent.

Lovely warm atmosphere, good mix of people, service was great and food absolutely delicious. My Hungarian goulash was full of flavour, good size portion and really well priced. It was great to receive the food hot (doesn’t always happen when you’re out, right?) therefore the whole experience was spot on. For locals or passers by I highly recommend.

Recently re-opened and Living in the village we were keen to try a Sunday roast. Superb food, beef and lamb excellent with plenty of gravy. Sticky toffee pud to follow was great too. Good service so it's a thumbs up from us. Steve & Tracey.

Excellent food. The two curries were delicious. The bar could have been a tad warmer. Local beer was good. Outside let's this pub down. Circular tables outside need removing or completely refurbished. There was litter in the car park and the grounds could do with some TLC before the spring.

This is a great local pub. They serve good honest pub food, a good selection of drinks and fabulous to have back in the village.

Lovely menu and beautifully cooked and presented food. Very substantial plates! Can really recommend this newly reopened ‘Temple’. Large glass of Sauvignon for £7.50. That’s heard to find elsewhere!

Just re opened with new owners. Good atmosphere and plenty of people. Absolutely shocked at bar prices. Pint of Samigel £6-50 and a brandy and coke at £6-57 . It’s a village pub after all.

This was our half way point for a refreshing beverage whilst out ok our bikes. The set up was lovely, the staff were wonderful and the decor was modern, with a fresh feel to it. We’ll return, and hope to try the food.

We had a very nice lunch at the Temple Inn today. I recommend the heritage tomato and goats cheese salad on a toasted sourdough bread! It's very special. The chips are huge and cooked to perfection: crispy outside and soft&fluffy in the middle. Overall, it's a really good English pub and worth a visit. We'll be back for sure.

What a wonderful surprise yesterday, to come home and hear music coming from the Temple early evening, locals coming together, having a dance and general good time.I really do hope this could happen again, not intrusive at all, considering it all finished at 8.30pm.Come on everyone, let's have a great summer, put on our dancing shoes and have a few drinks!

My pie was delicious, the sausages were a little dry and there was too much mustard in the mash. However, service was good and we had a good time.

just called on the off chance without booking a table. We were made welcome by lovely staff . Very clean and good atmosphere. Lovely food, served piping hot. Price wise about average for the area but worth every penny. I can recommend this and will definitely be going back .

We vent the for Christmas dinner. It was absolutely fantastic. The food was incredible, just like home made. It also tells you when the kids eat everything. The atmosphere is nice, cozy. Everything is so clean. Please do your self a favour and visit this Pub, highly recommended. 😊

We live locally and met friends for an impromptu meal out. We had been recommended that the food was great and we weren't disappointed ; I had the most delicious fish and chips ever! The Temple is now under new management and Edwina is very friendly and welcoming and delicious specials on the menu too, thank you Fabrice!

The Monarchs way , a must for Ramblers , this particular leg is between Rowland's Castle and Goodwood , a stiff Walk but views are Great , plenty of interest along the way.

Went for a family drink and was accosted by the drunk chef on his day off!!! He decided to sit at our table uninvited and interrupt our private family conversation because he was ‘bored’ !!! Appalling. This would never have been allowed to occur with the previous manager… come back Craig and Amy. Unfortunately The Temple needs to have a complete overhaul of its staff and where the future lies with this local country pub. It was packed previously now very few people there. I now know why …

Lunch with the family x good food, friendly atmosphere and a nice treat. Quite expensive for what it is but everyone enjoyed themselves and that's what you want when you don't see each other often

We've been visiting the Temple Inn for a number of years now for both food and drink. Recently the manager of the pub has changed and the change isn't a good one. On 2 separate occasions now last orders has been called before 1030 with the expectation of the pub shutting before 11pm (both times have been a Saturday night). On the last occasion it was clear that the supervisor just wanted to go home, and made his displeasure at us finishing our drinks at 1050 known. To be honest if you want a pub for food then this one is okay but don't expect to be able to stay until the published closing time. I for one won't be going back as my last experience has tainted the pub for me. There are friendlier pubs in the area who would welcome you business. This one doesn't so you're probably better off supporting those pubs that wasn't your business rather than this one that doesn't.

We had great roast beef lunch and excellent puddings. Good wine and beer. Brett was his usual efficient self.

Last orders called at 22.30 and expected to leave by 22.50 on a Saturday night as employee wanted to go home!! Beer was okay but nothing special. Would suggest trying somewhere else if you want friendly hospitality.

Four of us out to celebrate our wedding anniversary with our kids. Nice food. Lovey sunny day helped too as we sat outside. Steaks well cooked burgers scoffed. Nice puddings too. We had a nice bottle of wine reasonably priced and three rounds of drinks. £180 with a tip. Rounds of drinks could have been a bit quicker as it was very quiet but not a Big issue.

Always a friendly welcome at The Temple. Felt very safe, as they are following Covid guidelines. Food, as always, delicious, although some might think them slightly on the expensive side. They do have a great loyalty card system in operation though, which gives discounts for birthdays, etc. Great place to go with family or friends. On this occasion we ate indoors, but previously we have eaten under cover outside. Definitely would recommend and go, whenever I get the opportunity :)

This pub is incredibly organised and efficient and takes its Covid precautions seriously. A beautiful building with lots of great outdoor space - a decking area with umbrellas, a covered marquee with wood burners, and the garden. Delicious food, nice cocktails, helpful staff. Easy to book online in advance.
