Since I moved back to the area I wanted a place to eat, drink and have the less busier side of Crowborough. This is the perfect place. The staff Natalie,Oscar, and others are so very welcoming and friendly it has become a place I look forward to visiting weekly. Alone or with friends I definitely recommend this lovely place!

Friendly greeting, good selection of pub food and nicely presented in traditional surroundings. Plenty of parking available. Theme nights will be very popular. Outside seating available for a dog friendly visit. Will definitely return.

The Wheatsheaf is a proper pub - well run by Pete and Becky, formerly of The Dorset Arms in Withyham which has now gone "upmarket". The selection of Harvey's ales is exceptional, and changes according to season. Usually gets the Old Ale in before most other outlets. Great pub grub, and the menu is tweaked regularly. Nothing to fault, hence 5*.

Our walking group stopped here for lunch. The barman escorted us straight through the bar to the garden, and seated us at three tables nicely spaced. He explained the Covid-19 precautions, took our contact details, and then very promptly served our drinks. Very well kept beer and cider, too. The garden started to get busy, but the two bar staff made sure all our needs were met. Our food was freshly cooked, very generously portioned, and delicious. We enjoyed an excellent lunch, and will stop at the Wheatsheaf if ever we are in the neighbourhood.

The good point is the beer. The bad points are the poor service, unwelcoming atmosphere and the general run down atmosphere. Not one of Harveys better pubs

My husband & I went in here for lunch on a Friday and sat in the garden as the weather was quite warm. The woman behind the bar was not particularly friendly but the younger one that served our food was sweet. The menu is limited which in my opinion is a good sign in a small place. We didn't bother with starters, there were only 4 options and nothing grabbed our interest. For mains my husband chose pork loin which came with mash, green beans and black pudding & I had the chicken breast with bubble & squeak & green beans. They both came with the most amazing, tasty gravy and were delicious. Especially the bubble. I could have happily eaten just a plateful of that on it's own! We then had puddings - sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for Gary, which he loved & chocolate waffle with ice cream for me. We had to wait a while for our mains to arrive but it was worth it. Very nice indeed.

We camped for 2 nights a mile down the road and popped in this lovely pub for lunctime drinks . Beautifully kept harveys and nice wine The atmosphere was so friendly that we visited again in the evening for supper and their quiz night which was great fun. The food was lovely and we really feel that is a traditional English pub just the way it should be. We intend to re visit the camp site and will definitely re visit the pub.

I went with my wife for a meal in the week.We were very disappointed with the pub.We waited ages to be served, whilst the locals seemed to be served for us.The bar staff seemed uninterested and made little effort to make us welcome. The general place seemed run down and not particularly clean.

A nice traditional English pub, getting hard to find these days. We have visited for Sunday lunch on several occasions with a family group. The pub has a nice friendly atmosphere, is dog friendly and the food is good and reasonably priced.

This is a little gem of a pub set on the outskirts of a busy town. It only serves food Tues-Thur but the menu is excellent and includes a Specials board. The food is very good value and great quality.

I popped into the Wheatsheaf for a drink as I was staying at Hill Cottage. I was a single traveller and found that the locals were very friendly, lovely traditional pub, which sadly seems to be coming fewer. Nice people and I would go back

Friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, served hot and tasty and well above expectation. The Chef clearly has pride in his cooking and we will certainly be very happy to dine there again. Very much enjoyed our visit, particularly as the pub was very toasty with it real fires burning. Well done the Wheatsheaf.

Whilst staying at Hillside Cottage for many months, I regularly ate at The Wheatsheaf. The food was "Good Pub Food" with some lovely dishes and excellent steaks. I was made to feel welcome by both the landlord and the regulars!

Have been visiting a while now since moving to the area and cannot fault The Wheatsheaf. Welcoming landlord, staff and locals, great choice of ales. Haven't tried the food as yet, but no doubt will do soon, but the choices make your mouth water.

Very nice old English hostelry, a good selection of beers & ales and plenty of atmosphere. We didn't eat here but the menu looked very nice and the specials board was certainly tempting!

Usually go for the beef. Excellent quality with the best gravy and roast spuds around! A 'locals' pub so say hello and you will get a friendly reply. Beer excellent with live music & beer festivals occasionally.

New to the area we decided to visit this quaint looking pub down a country lane in Crowborough.I was completely ignored by the landlady who proceeded to serve the locals who she knew by name who arrived into the pub many minutes after I was left standing like a lemon at the bar.We walked out eventually as it was clear our custom wasn't wanted. Will go back in the next week or two to give them another chance.

Spend time seeking out this special pub. If you want good beer & a friendly welcome this is the place. A splendid tonic to the impersonal chain pub at the top of the town.

My brother in law and I had a nice lunch the other day. It isn't gastronomy but that's not what you go to a pub for. He had a nice fish and chips. He's not a big eater but did finish it all. I had a nice beefburger with good chips. And they serve Harvey's which is very important in Sussex.Friendly service and good atmosphere. Not all that easy to find if you're not local. Best print a map of the Bing or Google Maps web sites.

The pub is an atmospheric pub serving the best kept beer in the area. There is a beer garden and the annual beer festival attracts the residents of Crowborough from those in their twenties to pensioner residents.Granted if you want a plastic pub serving inferior beer go elsewhere however if you like log fires, beams served by friendly staff this is the establishment for you.

Apart from the pile of dog ends outside the main door, surly staff, cold bars, freezing toilets with no hot water and crisps on the seats, it was all fine.We finished our drinks and left without bothering for lunch and went elsewhere. Not that the menu looked inspiring. The barmaid didn't ever acknowledge us when we returned our empty glasses to the bar and said "goodbye".We won't be going back

Had a perfect meal to celebrate the passing of my dad. Just a small family gathering. Starters were brilliant and the mains were heavenly. The staff were friendly, efficient and attentive without being overbearing. Everything was reasonably priced and was a perfect way to remember dad. Thank you

I have already reviewed this in the main hotel site. The drawing rooms are lovely, comfortable chairs, beautiful view, BUT the food and wine by the glass were truly awful. Very poor quality and very expensive. Never again.

This country pub had been on our list for ages and so as it was my birthday weekend we booked for Sunday lunch. We'd checked the menu before booking so we knew the roast was pricey at £24 for the roast beef. We usually pay between £16 and £20 elsewhere. Unfortunately, when it arrived it was disappointing. There was plenty of thinly sliced beef but I found it very fatty and chewy. There were fewer vegetables than expected, half a carrot, 3 very small, very hard roast potatoes and a pile of kale. The Yorkshire pud was large but mainly soggy. The gravy was delicious. Also elements of the dish were less warm than others. The pub is lovely and had a good drinks menu but we were seated in the bar area and had to listen to staff discussing their rotas at length. Perhaps if we'd been in the main restaurant area or outside we'd have had a better experience. Maybe consider your portion sizes especially the veg. We didn't stay for desert.
