West Town in Havant

My friend and I had a wonderful Christmas Lunch on the day itself! The service was fantastic and not rushed, with time in between courses. The turkey melted in the mouth, veg cooked very well and plenty of gravy. The wine is very reasonably priced. Steve, our primary server was lovely, as is the landlady. Jolly good job all round, bar staff very helpful as well. Thank you, and Happy New Year!

Fabulous Sunday lunch! My husband, daughter and I went for Sunday lunch at The Westown . We had a lovely table, sat at a table in front of an open fire. Watched the football with a live singer, performing beautifully. We were served hot roast dinners with fresh veg and homemade Yorkshires. Would highly recommend and definitely will be back. Thank you to all the staff for a super experience.

Things did not get off to a great start on a few counts: 1 - The table had a QR code for menu and ordering at the table. But upon using this, the website did not respond. I went to the bar and raised this with a waitress and she said, "yes, sometimes we turn that off", which makes no sense. Why would you just turn that feature off? 2 - So, I ordered drinks at the bar in person, and they did not materialise. I went back to the bar after 10-15 mins to query this, and I had to give my order again. I think there may have been a new-starter there, and we all have to learn somewhere, so I did not give them a hard time over this. 3 - The guy taking my food order at the bar asked if I wanted to run a tab, which I did as knew we'd order more drinks. But then a waitress said that they don't do tabs, there was some discussion and it was deemed I was not able to run a tab. That's a tad silly to be honest, if you're voluntarily disabling the QR code self-service, then not allowing customers to run a tab, it's just causing customer inconvenience. After the above, we were concerned this was going to be a bad experience, and we even discussed cancelling our order and finding another place (my friends were over from Canada so I did not want to be that guy who sees his friends once a year and takes them somewhere bad!). But I am glad we did not, because things picked up and our food orders were taken promptly, the food arrived in a reasonable time, and the food turned out to be pretty good. Putting aside the new starter matter - as it would be unfair to mark the place down due to a training item - the restaurant should resolve the QR code self-service being turned off sometimes, and not being able to run a tab when that's not working, but other than that, this was a pretty good experience and all of us enjoyed our food and had a nice evening.

A truly ghastly experience from a customer service perspective. Had booked a lunchtime table for 4 via OpenTable so they knew we were coming. Reviews suggested it would be a reasonable choice for a family get-together / birthday celebration whilst staying on Hayling Island. Sat at our table unattended for 15 - 20 minutes. No other diners in our part of the pub so not busy...now I am seeing why. Went to find help to acknowledge our presence and was advised by the barmaid at a coffee machine that she was on her own. No table service option so had to order drinks and food at the bar or via a QR code. Reported back to the group and then went to the bar to find it unattended. Had no paper / pen with us so took a bar ordering pad and pen and wrote down what we wanted. Went hunting for the barmaid and eventually found her to hand over our paper order. Then told that the choice for 2 of our group was not available so had to go back to the table to get an alternative. Order eventually placed and paid for. Food was hot but the pie and chips option came covered in gravy...no pot used to enable the customer to choose whether to drown their chips or not. This seemed ironic as the burger option chosen by one of the group came with a mushroom sauce in a pot and wasn't really needed. No check if food was OK. Barmaid was happier playing with her laptop and talking to a couple of guys drinking at the bar. As we left a lady, presumed to be the landlady, smiled at us and said goodbye. Seems to have been sat there all the time we were at our table but didn't make a move to help us or the barmaid, whose attitude was indifferent and dismissive throughout the visit. Unlikely to revisit Hayling Island again but if we did this is not an Inn we would use or recommend to others.

We used this venue for our wedding reception as it was where my husband and I met. Maxine was amazing ,nothing was too much trouble. Her staff were exceptional,welcoming us every time we 'popped' in to check on something. Food was promptly served, all idiosyncrosies were delt without fuss. All in all a very special occasion, so much so we rebooked for a meal to celebrate with friends Thank you Maxine and staff.

On holiday, so never been to this pub before. Not sure we were just unlucky, a table of 8, and not a very busy restaurant. Wasn't made clear on how we order, or let alone where the cutlery was, until we approached the unhelpful staff. Sadly the service was pretty poor, such a shame as the food was pretty good.

Stayed here in our Campervan for the night. The food was amazing, we are vegan they had several options as well as a traditional menu, the staff really friendly and helpful, great atmosphere with live music in the bar and sport on the TVs in the areas that branch off the main area (and behind the bar as well as one in the garden) great decor as well (see photos of walls of dogs). Really great, friendly, good value pub to eat drink (good range of beers!) And relax in. Will definitely be back! Special mention to the waitress who, despite rushing around to get the food out quickly, still had time to be friendly and check that everything we had was right and we were happy with it with a smile!

Fantastic pub. The team here accommodated a large group with plenty of communication in the lead up with the person in our group that organised it. The food was fantastic (not your general pub grub - definitely above expectations) It was clean, friendly & inviting. Would 100% recommend a visit. The garden was brilliant, even has a tv in it! Plenty of space for different groups.

£4.60 for a half pint of lemonade and lime. Queried price with barmaid, was told arrogantly "that's what it is". Cancelled plans to stay for food and more drinks instead and went and got fish n chips on the beach.

I’m not sure what to say about this place, I think if you’re a local then it’s banging. Outsiders it’s an experience.! Seemed chaotic, Staff were polite, Food was ok, we had Sunday Roast, meat was thinly cut, some veg was frozen not fresh. Price was reasonable for what you got. Portion size was good. Not our cup of tea as I like peace with my food not open mic and screaming kids. Lovely and clean nice decor. Give it a go it maybe right up your street.

The roast dinner we had was very nice and cracking value for money. We had a young girl serving us and her service was absolutely impeccable and is a credit to the business.

We pre booked a family meal of 17, lovely table, food was great, no issues at all, service was really accommodating, we are yearly visitors to the island and always go to the west town.

Stayed in our Motorhome and had a wonderful evening including a delicious meal and excellent live music. Landlady was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble!

We booked the Westtown to celebrate my mums birthday as we are regular customers . My family can be very particular and fussy yet they all said how much they enjoyed their meals and the atmosphere and service . Maxine and her team are so thorough and professional and I would recommend the West town every time

We went to watch the England Game on Sunday with family 25 of us including small children and my dog it’s a dog . Some of us had meals and the food was excellent! The staff went above and beyond to make us all feel welcome . When we all decided to leave we couldn’t get a cab to take my dog . The owner Max took us in her car to our holiday village on the way back she noticed 4 of the boys walking back she picked them up and brought them back too. . Never had that happen we was all so grateful . We will definitely be going back West Town Inn will be our pub to go when ever we are in Hayling island . Thank you Max and all your staff x

Me and my family decided to watch the England v Slovakia euro 2024 game whilst on a weekend holiday to hayling island There was a large group of us and so we were very pleased to find The west town inn public house was very comfortable and spacious. The atmosphere and friendly service was fantastic as well as fellow customers who made us all feel very welcome. We are looking forward to visiting the west town inn on our next trip to the island Debi & Tony

West Town Inn is a lovely place, and the garden round the back is a fabulous place to spend a sunny afternoon. The kids were loving the play area.

Food was lovely and served quickly by friendly staff. Good atmosphere and a nice garden to sit in. Didn't see much of the interior but seemed clean and well decorated. Would recommend

We came here for a family birthday because it is one of few pubs with a play area for my children. Within minutes of arriving my son had trodden in dog mess. He did not realise for several minutes after playing on the equipment. Needless to say my enjoyment of the meal was ruined by having to clean up for him. Two young staff sheepishly apologised and said they normally do a ‘sweep’ for mess before picking what they could find up in paper towels. At the time we left, the ground had certainly not been cleaned properly , let alone the play equipment. The manager was not interested. I find this absolutely disgusting and am fed up with irresponsible dog owners (a minority, no doubt) and poor customer service. I don’t leave posts often but feel i must speak out as this is extremely unpleasant for diners and a hazard to young children if proper steps to either enforce responsible behaviour with dogs or clean up after inconsiderate owners is not being taken. I wont be returning.

Great pub, watch the play off final.

Lovely pub. I always pop in here when visiting family so I decided to have my birthday lunch here and wasn't disappointed. We were quite a large group with lots of children but the staff kept up with us. Service and food was spot on. The kids had a great time playing in the garden and the kids meals are actually propper little meals and good value for money (hard to find these days). The staff and landlady are always welcoming and friendly. I wish this was my local pub.

Best tasting roast dinner I've ever had, everything was cooked perfectly, and the lady running it was so helpful

The staff at The West Town really care & provide a great service. My Mum asked for the lunchtime special Scampi on a Saturday, (normally Monday to Friday) & it wasn't a problem. They forgot my croutons with the chicken & bacon salad but cooked them fresh & offered me a complimentary glass of wine. Cannot fault this pub for food and service

Good value roast dinner served by friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The only criticism would be that the green veg was overcooked, but some people like it that way. You can't please everyone.

Reasonably priced pub food. Locals pub, but has been renovated in past few years. Good to watch sport and large pub garden

Great place watched the FA Cup final and the seating was re arranged for the footy fans, drink orders taken during the game, highly recommended

This pub is 5 minutes drive from the seafront but worth seeking out if you want plentiful, good food & well-kept real ale.

Service lovely. 100% just shame the food was lukewarm not hot at all & 2 items missing from plate. Didn't realise till finished then looked at the menu again. Desert was delicious.

Stayed overnight in their car park in our campervan via britstop, it’s a lovely big pub, nice beer garden, has lots going on all the time, staff seemed friendly, food was nice too and had live music on Friday evenings.

No need to look elsewhere unless you want to pay more.

I have been twice recently.. last week I took my parents for Mother’s Day and although it was really busy there the food was lovely when it came out… and this week it was my birthday had a meal there with parents and brothers family we all ordered different things and everything tasted really good … not 1 of our group had a complaint about their food … the staff were attentive nothing too much trouble… well done to all the staff and Maxine for creating an atmospheric pub with great food … we will be back 😊

Lovely Mothers Day lunch for 12 at the West Town Inn. We had the 3 course Mothers Day lunch, great choice and value for money. It was busy as expected but not crowded, the staff were organised and welcoming. The food was delicious, so much meat on the roast and everything was cooked perfectly. Nice touch for the Mums, a complimentary g & t and a pot plant from the landlady Maxine. We had a lovely afternoon and stayed longer to listen to the lovely singer Jessica. Everybody had a fabulous day, thank you West Town Inn xx

Popped in for lunch after a walk in the rain. We received a lovely welcome even though we were soaking wet and hardly looking our best. The two of us chose the same lunch - beef and ale pie, with mashed potatoes and peas. The food was lovely, the service prompt and friendly. This is definitely a pub I will visit again.

Went for Sunday lunch, absolutely blown away by the experience. Great to see such a fabulous team working so well together. Lots of choice, excellent produce. The chef certainly knows how to cook. Brilliant atmosphere, was a really nice place to enjoy although we could not sit outside as too cold we sat next to the fire in the pub and had a good burger with nice glass of wine, Highly recommend. Was good value for money also, Clean & Tidy If you like your traditional pups with a modern twist take a visit

Had a fabulous Christmas Lunch today at the West Town. The steak was cooked to perfection best I have had in the UK for a long time. Attentive service and a delicious sticky toffee pudding is to die for. Well done once again to the chef and wonderful staff.

Cannot fault the food,service and the wonderful atmosphere of this venue we all has a brilliant time . We'll done to the staff. Keeping 14 people happy and well fed is no mean feat.

Great food. Lovely staff Never had a bad meal here. The steak was Melt in your mouth and not a bit of gristle. Pie has lovely pastry and plenty of filling. Hunters chicken was succulent. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious food. Courteous, friendly and attentive staff. Spacious seating with comfortable chairs. It was too cold to eat outside but the back patio/seating was lovely. Had the tikka masala and bangers and mash. Both were so so good! Will definitely be back!

Sunday Lunch last weekend was amazing and brilliant value for money. The duo meat option was incredible value. So much I could not finish it. Hats off to the chef and can’t wait to come back. Service was excellent and so brunch/breakfast a few weeks back.

Went for Sunday lunch, had really good fast service. Food was great and lots of it. Reasonably priced with friendly helpful staff. All in all an enjoyable experience and one I will be repeating.

Walked into an amazing layout of a Halloween themed pub. Good cider, great food, lovely pleasant staff and to top it all, a live singer who was very, very good. .

Very good is for the food, and better. But the language is getting worse as each week goes by. If I had explained or ask to cool the language, I expect I would have been told, either you know where the door is, or men will be men letting of steam. But surely this is a family pub, and ladies present, that are out to enjoy a nice meal, not to have to listen to bad language from noisy men

OMG Really, Tomato ketchup as the bace for a pizza, sort of thing you expect on utube not on a margarita, apparently that's what the chef uses.

Had a Friday afternoon lunch here having arrived in the area to stay at Lakeside. Friendly staff, good selection of drinks at reasonable prices and the food was lovely and good value. The pub looks nice inside and has a large garden (with rabbits and an owl). We ate outside as it was nice weather. The only bad point (and why I didn't rate excellent) is the toilet cleaning - they smelt very strongly of dirty cloth or mop.

Had birthday celebrations this weekend all our guests enjoyed pub food was excellent staff brilliant attentive and friendly use this pub occasionally never had a negative experience would recommend to all

Both myself & my partner have been here many times & can recommend The West Town. Maxine & her lovely & helpful staff are welcoming & Alan the chef is always very cheerful & helpful & always serves us first class food, very yummy, thanks. Would highly recommend The West Town for either lunch or dinner. We also enjoy the themed nights which are great fun.

Get off the beaten track and get here, walking the dog with the family and stumbled in for drinks witn the dog, ended up ordering dinner, and was proper happy with what we had. Ghe chicken strip starter were amazing, and the burgers were absolutely astounding. Would highly recommend this establishment for for food, drinks and atmosphere. The food is piping hot & served with a smile, the staff here are so friendly, even the chef helped serve up, and what a lovely guy. Allround, it's a 10/10 from me and the fam. I will be returning to the island, even if it is just for the food, and I'm a foodie 😁

Had an absolutely fantastic roast dinner this Sunday. Couldn't fault a thing, the food was fresh and hot and tasted amazing.

Booked for an important birthday treat but was let down and was unable to get a table or meal. Head chef very abusive and nasty when queried politely and bar staff thought this was hilarious, not nice, in fact quite upsetting and unprofessional. Not recommended if the occasion matters to you. Could not get another booking for Sunday lunch on the island, so bought a pizza from Lidls, which was delicious and a fortune was saved. Lidls are great. Manager seemed decent and later apologised for the chefs actions and offered a takeaway roast, but the pizza had already been eaten by then. We will not book there again, but thankfully there are literally loads of decent places on hayling to eat, almost all of them, so no loss to any of us at all whatsoever. Friends and family will also avoid having heard about the experience and the fact the head chef seemed to really enjoy ruining a young lads 18th birthday treat and lie about the reasons. A real shame, as it was the one place chosen for the event and he was looking forward to it. Can’t comment on the food, obviously, but service, atmosphere and bar staff are not good. Maybe when the chef is gone the pub might be okay again. Guess we will never find out as bookings cannot be relied upon…

What a wonderful treasure on the island! Lovely decor, fresh, clean, warm, and inviting. Great menu, not overloaded with too many choices. The food is great! I had a Stilton and mushroom burger. Full of flavour, juicy and tasty. My daughter had the kids chicken nuggets and fries. Again, nice flavour and tasty. I would highly recommend anyone on the island to stop in and enjoy this little pub!!

Lovely place for a hearty Sunday roast. Very generous portions, good roasties and yorkies! The beef could have been a little tenderer but the pork was great. Will definitely be back again soon.

the food and service was good except there is a concern of mine. there is an owl in the pub garden and I am worried about it’s living space. there is barely any room for it to fly and absolutely no privacy whatsoever. along with this I believe there is a stage right next to it, which must be horrendous for the owl to live by with all the noise.I know it’s a rescue so you can’t set it free yet you shouldn’t be keeping a wild animal in these conditions. please extend the cage even it’s by a couple metres and let the owl and give it some privacy to live. It’s only 8 years old and has a life expectancy of forty years. don’t make it live like that

Ate here twice whilst on holiday, highly recommend. Friendly staff, lovely home cooked food, great atmosphere (enjoyed the live singer during our Sunday lunch). Thank you all at the West Town Inn 👍👍
