Above average pub food, decent quality - the service here makes it well worth a visit. We’ve visited the Wheelright Arms twice now, and on both occasions, we received great service from Kate ~ who seems to work harder than anyone. The food here is ok ~ nothing spectacular, as it’s pretty standard pub fair ~ both visits were Sundays, and the Sunday Lunch is not bad. The rest of the menu is standard Pub - with burgers, fish & Chips and Scampi etc - but it’s ok. Nicely prepared and served hot, without delay. What makes this place good, and what has helped make the decision to book this place for Christmas Lunch, was the service we received from Kate.

We hadn’t been to ‘The Wheelies’ for a while due to poor customer service and not up to standard meals however pleased to say it is back to its best Although it was busy when we arrived we were attentively served by the lovely Kate who went out of her way to deliver amazing customer service and made us feel welcome We had the tapas as it was ‘Tapas Tuesday’ & we weren’t disappointed Fabulous food that was very much worth the money We will be returning in a few weeks and can’t wait 😊😊

A lovely looking pub ,great atmosphere and friendly knowledgeable staff. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. Visited tonight to have a meal. The food was average at best. No mash to go with a meal so opted for fries. Well cheap oven chips aren't fries are they? The fryers obviously need an oil change as the battered haddock was over cooked as well as greasy. The pie wasn't tasty,just bland. Such a shame as was so much better when last here.

A very welcoming pub just outside Havant. A traditional style pub with a great atmosphere a lovely menu and a good selection of beer. We went for an early dinner and had a nice choice from the specials menu. We were served by Kate who was a wonderful host. We will definitely return.

Family of 6 visited today 4 adults and 2 children. We were very fortunate to get a last minute booking and from the moment we arrived we were welcomed and attended to immediately. Such a lovely homely atmosphere whilst the weather was horrendous outside, the pub gave a warm and cosey feel with staff full of smiles which was very pleasant. The adults all ordered the trio of roasts which consisted of beef, chicken & gammon and we upgraded to the ultimate which did not disappoint! The veg was full of flavour and the meats were perfect. Not only did it make a nice change for us to eat out but to be 100% satisfied with our meal and service made it soo much more worth going out in the rain for and enjoyable! Our whole experience exceeded expectations. Thank you to the cheery front of house staff and the kitchen staff for making our day! We will definatly be returning and would recommend anyone to go too!!!

Fantastic food, and lovely staff. Went here on a Sunday night because they were one of the few places around who had their kitchen still open in the evening. I was pleasantly surprised to find gluten free fish and chips! The fish was a nice big piece, and the batter was crispy all the way through. Paired it with a nice mojito, and had a fabulous meal. Staff were great, and very conscious of allergies/food restrictions. I was also impressed to see that they had a pretty impressive menu for dogs too!

New menu is much better with a good selection of good quality tasty food.

Went as a party of 4 - brother, sister & spouses. Excellent meal - taps starters & various mains. Very impressed by standard of service & hygiene, with emphasis on checking for allergies & addressing them. Special mention for Kate, our server, who excelled in friendliness & providing information.

This is a local pub for us so we know it well and the service / menu is always of a high standard . We have just been there for lunch today and would highly recommend the Tapas menu - gorgeous little Spanish inspired plates and very well cooked and seasoned -washed down with a couple of glasses of gorgeous dry rose for me ( Provençal I think ) and a Big Drop Paradiso Citra 0% for my husband . Lovely !

We hired the function room last night for my mums 60th birthday meal. All food was pre ordered and pre paid so that was nice and easy on the night. Staff very friendly and accommodating towards allergies and intolerances offering a specific pudding which wasn’t on the menu so everyone could have something. Food was very nice however the puddings very rich and a lot of people didn’t eat them because of this. Only downside was the function room was very hot with 25 people in it, no windows could be opened so we had to open the door however other people sat in the beer garden the other side smoking. Overall a very nice evening

Just want to say thanks for the great service last Saturday evening. We were going to a local event and our server made sure we had our food in good time to get there despite it being a busy evening. Lovely beer, excellent burgers, friendly staff. Thank you!

Has to be one of the worst roast dinners I’ve ever had asked for quarter of chicken and beef ended up with a drumstick and beef was so tough the knife couldn’t cut it one roasted carrot and parsnip two small roast potatoes and a oversized Yorkshire to fill the plate out . This was a party of 12 so we ou can image the bill wasn’t cheap as it was those who had beef left it . Asked to see the management to complain met with unfortunately he has just gone home I would think twice about going to this establishment for roast dinner under cooked and overpriced 😡

This place has alot of character to offer with alot more room inside than oroginally thought. Service was outstanding with the two ladies today.. if your ordering the roasts, expect a large amount of meat and little veg.

Disappointing. Slow and unenthusiastic service particularly at the bar. Menu items were unavailable leaving very little veggie options. Food was ok but pricey for what we had. Just not up to previous standards although the selection of drinks was good. Lovely cocktails.

Always great portion sizes food is v good and super friendly with good ale.

Decent atmosphere with board games and TVs. However, not very good quality food. I had a Prawn Linguine which I couldn’t finish as it was very watery and was quite bland. Not the friendliest of service either.

Good food but just so expensive

I am a local resident and I have to say the quality of food over the last 4 years has dropped significantly… the meal I had last night was terrible I ordered ribs and it came within minutes of ordering they had clearly been re heated and smothered in a horrid tangy sauce shockingly they can with a side of chips nothing else !!!! It is a shame as the serving staff are always very attentive but food is letting this place down safe to say I will not return for food

the tall tables could do with a deep clean. Visually I could see the encrusted hand grease on the side of the table, and physically scraped it with the end of a spoon. Considering people eat there, food hygiene needs attention.

The standout feature was great service, right from the welcome to regular checking on how things were going etc. The food was liked by us all, and we would certainly like to return again. I would like to see more vegetarian options. A bit disappointed they prompted to add a tip when 12.5% charge was already added to the bill.

I went to the Wheelwright's Arms for a meal and pub quiz with some friends. The staff were excellent and friendly. The food wasn't too bad, just ordinary pub grub and everyone enjoyed the quiz. We will be returning regularly.

Had the £12.50 breakfast with a friend last week. While not a large as some I've had, the bonus was the quality - sausages, eggs and black pudding very nice in particular, also the vine tomatoes. Will do this again for sure. Staff very pleasant also... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Called in again yesterday to find that the 'all-day' breakfast finished at around 2pm - needs renaming! My friend and I both had the bacon chop with eggs and chips which made a good substitute... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Had the tapas this time - 5 dishes for £20 - tasty and filling, with some left over...

I recently visited for lunch and a roast in a week and both were excellent. Both times I started with the prawn cocktail and it was very good. Big juicy prawns with plenty of sauce, fresh salad and bread.. My roast beef was perfectly cooked and I think the carrot was the best I've eaten. The chicken, ham and leek pie was lovely with a wonderful buttery smooth mash.

We love the Wheelwrights. The staff make the pub as they are so friendly and welcoming to everyone. We go in there a lot with our dog and they make a big fuss of him. The food is very good and always tasty, we would highly recommend it. Definitely the best pub in the area by far.

Managed to intercept the lovely chef and Thank her personally , staff ( Cerys & Jo) very attentive, without being intrusive, a credit to their profession. They have found the perfect balance here at the wheelwrights, whether front of house or behind the scene all the well oiled cogs make the wheels go round here at the wheelwrights ( no pun intended) Fantastic local for us. I came in during half term with the kids and had a lovely family meal . We used the kids eat free offer which was throughly enjoyed by all of us . The staff were so friendly and gave my dog treats from the bar too.

I regularly come in here for a pint with my work colleagues after work and the bar staff are always so friendly and are quick to serve. Best pint in Havant . And pleased to have Asahi on tap now .

Had a great evening on Tuesday - 4 of us met up for Dinner and we all chose the tapas menu with wine included. Wonderful food, fantastic company, fab surroundings and great value. Very well looked after all Evening by Cerys and Kate, thank you very much we will be back !

Last minute decision to go for lunch and decided to revisit the Wheelwright Arms where we hadn’t been for a few years. Menu is new and interesting. My other half was keen to try the Sea Bream which sadly wasn’t available but had the Cornish Orchard battered Fish. He said the batter was beautifully crispy and not at all greasy with a decent portion of fish to boot! I had the Souvlaki Chicken with flatbread. A generous portion of chicken atop a tasty flatbread with and crumbled feta. Really lovely. Will be returning for the Tuesday Tapas which sounds great value. Lovely lunch and very friendly staff. Recommended!

We popped in for a fairly late quick drink with the dog. The staff are always smiling and welcoming and the atmosphere is always friendly. Next week will be trying the food for the first time 😀

We attended a funeral wake and just wished we had an opportunity to pop in more regularly. Food looked lovely with a good selection of drinks of all varieties. Would definitely recommend

Went for breakfast here this morning. The food was good as always but front of house Kate lacks the people skills to be dealing with customers! This is not the job for Kate! Don’t mean to be derogatory but she by far delivered the worse service I’ve ever experienced! I’ve received bad service before but never have I felt the need to report it but it was so shocking I had to vent somewhere!! I did not highlight to Kate, she didn’t notice our demeanour from her behaviour & due to her attitude packed with arrogance I felt the complaint would be lost on her! What with her service, I was generally concerned for her reaction if I highlighted my issues & I’d still be there listing them if I had! Apologies again for the harsh review but I can not empathise enough how bad she was!!!

Still a good atmosphere but very disappointed in staff and apparently manager/assistant. Plus, despite holding a beer glass to the light to check, it was thick with smudge where it had been sat in water and not polished. Revolting! Drank out of bottle instead. Not returning :/

Every time we come to Portsmouth we come to this pub for food and drinks with our friends and family. Fantastic food and service!

The food here was always on the pricier side but was generally very nice however the menu has changed and is even more expensive! Plus it seems less options. Staff did their job ok but were cold and not very friendly (it wasn’t busy) and were not very accommodating if you would like to customise anything, we were told, it won’t go through on the system, no explanation and no apologies. Oh but you can customise a burger! Great, but wait, you only have the option of beef or vegan burger then you have to add a side for more, then you have to add sauce for more! We have been here many times but sadly won’t be returning.

Came here today for a lovely birthday meal. All the food was wonderful, roasts were delightful and the prawn and chorizo flatbread was amazing. Atmosphere was very chilled, didn’t feel rushed. Thanks to Sam and Kate for serving us so well. Lovely afternoon.

Brilliant and fun staff who really looked after us. The food was excellent but a little pricy in our view. Burger not accompanied by fries.....really!

My wife and I popped in for lunch on a Saturday whilst in the area looking at perspective houses. The service was too notch! The two young ladies working on the bar (Lunchtime Saturday 16th March) were attentive and friendly. After sitting down, they brought us a carafe of water, quickly followed by a bowl of water for our 10 month old Cocker Spaniel. I was incredibly impressed by the selection of dog treats on offer at the bar from “The Canine Menu”, Bowie loved the Boar chew stick, and very reasonably priced! We ordered lunch and were blown away by the portion sizes! It was incredible. And the food was spectacular. I truly hope that we move to the area as I couldn’t think of another pub that I’d be happier to call my local! Keep up the great work! 👍🏻

On arrival we got asked if we would sit at a high table of which we refused due to a back problem… I know it was Mother’s Day and very busy but I found the staff rude and very uninterested in what they were doing… the food was ok not to the point I would return but edible… we had to ask five times for more gravy and then got told they had ran out of gravy pots… we also had to ask for sauces twice. I’m not one to normally leave a bad review it’s just that I found this to be a very negative experience and certainly would not recommend

Loving the new menu, the old one was getting a little boring. There is now so much to choose from and I think we are going to try most of it over the next few months. The tapas and breakfast menus look exciting and can't wait to try. Tonight we went for the linguine with souvlaki chicken (Greek) and flat iron steak both were delicious 😋 Thank you to Ali and the staff for looking after us, as usual 👍

Visited the Wheelwrights Arms with an ex work colleague of mine. Busy pub on Thursday night. Atmosphere was good and pub was very busy, in fact public bar was incredibly packed.! Very little room to get round. Had a fairly decent meal in a very crowded eating area, looked like a corridor to rear of pub? Had the ultimate burger which was nice. Could not finish it as it was a large meal. Decent evening out but make sure you have booked in advance and you should get a good table? I have not visited this pub since 1986! Yes a long time ago now, but its improved somewhat since then!!

Hello we had a booking for 5 people but 3 could not make it with one in a wheelchair. thank goodness We are so glad they could not come as we went ourselves for a table for 2. Oh my the pub was heaving we changed seats twice because we could not hear ourselves speak. The staff where brilliant but we feel that we should have been advised about the wake. It was crammed full of very loud people. In my view the pub should have been closed for the amount of people catered for in the wake. It has certainly put us of going again. But I must reiterate the staff where brilliant. Lynda Porter Had a call from the owner. He not really interested in our complaint. Nothing offered to compensate the horrible lunch.

A really nice place for a decent Sunday roast. A great selection of meats and vegetables quality produce. Cooked well and nice on the eye. Portion are great. You will stuffed and satisfied. You can upgrade for some roast extras like pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese and extra roasts and gravy so it's worth it. You can have a trio of meats too if you like them all. We had chicken, beef and gammon and it was spot on. It was really busy but the staff were coping well. It's a big old pub lovely 🍻

We met 7 of our friends at the Wheelwright Arms for Sunday roast. The meals were well presented, large portions and great value for money. Service was quick and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We’ll definitely return
