We had a lovely stop here. The choice of ales is enormous and the pub has a lovely atmossphere. It's also very conveniently located right inside the train station and it has an outside sitting and smoking area. Don't let the dimly lit interior and some of the guests put you off. It only seems a bit grungy as first but most people there are as friendly and open to a chat as most Yorkshire people are. Great stop if you want to do the booze train journey from Leeds to Huddersfield.

Expensive for alcohol but always,a pleasant place if you are passing through! Recommended!

Asked for an ale shandy only to have the lemonade flattened and when I said please don't was told rudely that it was the only way to do it. Having been a landlord myself with hand pull, I know how to do a shandy. I was left with a flat horrible pint that I had a few mouthfuls of before leaving it. Nice refreshing pint spoiled! Learn how to pour pints!

This station pub has it all - even its own toilets! Absolutely superb choice of cask and keg - Track Sonoma on cask, Steady Rolling Man on tap to name but two. Sizeable outdoor area hosts live music. Well worth alighting from your 🚂 journey for 👍🏻 Must also praise the terrific barman - chapeau.

It's easy to loose all sense of time in here. My new hobby is watching my train leave the platform without me. So I console myself with another excellent beer. Every cloud has a silver lining! Definitely worth getting off the train for.

Didn't eat but the drinks on offer were good. We managed to get to the bar before a crowd came in which meant we didn't have to wait like many others did for their drinks. Not much room inside, but outside space used very well.

I had an hour's wait for my train and the platform was filled with the delicious smells from their kitchen. Admittedly the place was quiet, which was good because it made for excellent service. The food was great, but I was also so hungry at this point my opinion may be biased. I did like the insect hotel that was in the pub garden, gave a real caring/compassionate side to the place. I enjoyed my brief visit.

Lovely pub with a great drink selection. Gets very busy when they have bands on which is lovely. The only thing is that they tend to serve locals first, which I completely understand, but they also need to concentrate on non locals if they want people to go back. Apart from that, a beautiful place with a great atmosphere

Good quick pint before the train

The pub is beautifully decorated with a really warm feel to it. Its a shame that the bar staff are so incredibly rude and aloof. I've been in here upwards of 80+ times and I've always thought 'fair enough', it's not their job to smile. However, it is. It's the job of the staff to create an atmosphere that makes you want to return and that makes you feel welcomed in a 'public house'. I am routinely ignored, tutted at, side-eyed and sighed. Rarely am i even offered a 'hello' when i enter this pub to spend £5 on a standard pint. The staff never look like they can be bothered and even worse look irked when you go for a drink.. Their body posture, eye contact and mannerisms are ridiculously short and bear a mark of indignance. Is someone forcing them to do this job? We all have to work. Spoilt, brattish and self absorbed are the terms that come to mind. Either the staff were selected specifically because of how impudent and cold they were, or they were the only ones who turned up to interview. Feels very clichey - a serve who you want sort of vibe. Makes me lose faith in humanity - that said, maybe if i do, I could find a job here!

Please visit and appreciate the this place. I’ve just been and witnessed bar stewardship at its highest. Engaging all punters with humour and efficient skills. Balancing it all with a sense of fun whilst working very hard. It’s a good place. Go!

Called in before Catching the train to Manchester Airport on the 4th January . I rang the pub on the 3rd to ask if they did food all day was told yes and I could get pizza on the 4th. So arranged meal with family. Arrived at the pub to be told in a very rude manner there was no food as he was by himself. You either do food or you don't Also suggest the member of staff looks at his people skills. Very poor experience

Went here for drinks with friends - early evening. Place was busy - it was bingo night! Every time we spoke we were told to be quiet as bingo was on! Fancy going to a pub and not being allowed to speak! We were being glared at by bar staff who were surly and rude when serving. The place was scruffy and some people were smoking weed in the smoking area. If you were studying sociology then this would be a great place to do research into the sorry state of society in 2023.

Lovely place always welcoming food great always something to have quiche ect pork scratchings to die for !!!! Drinks excellent value £17 for 2 x doubles +2 halves lager if you ever miss your train would def recommend 👌 👍

Great place stop off at while waiting for your train as it is on Dewsbury railway station. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Another real ale pub don’t cater much for non ale drinkers

£8.95 for a breakfast consisting of two rashers of overly crispy bacon, one sausage, a small ramekin of microwaved beans, one egg, three cherry tomatoes, a slice of toast and half a round of fried bread. Total rip off hangs your heads in shame.

Sunday 23rd April 2023 We visited this great, friendly pub on Dewsbury Railway Station. This pub served a tremendous range of well looked after hand pumped ales This pub has got nice barstaff and a friendly local following There were plenty of people in like us waiting to catch there trains

Seems a bit run down since we last was in before Christmas. We generally love this place but it's seems to have lost its mojo. Walked in on Saturday night to what can only be described as the smell of urine in the main bar. Bar staff were very disinterested. Bar area was scruffy and un inviting.. Gone down hill IMO...

The BEST Sunday lunch I’ve had in such a long time. Served in a warm and cosy pub. The meat is melting and the option to have a bit of both of beef/ham is great 👍🏽, Fresh veg, again perfectly cooked, extra cauliflower cheese (which is just the right ratio of caul n cheese) finished off with rich meaty gravy ❤️ the only criticism would be “can we have an extra roast potato” they are amazing. Defo going again next week

Nice traditional proper station pub. Warm, friendly atmosphere with friendly bar staff and in general a good place to have a drink whilst waiting for a train. Certainly the highlight of travelling through Dewsbury.

As it's on the railway station, they get commuter's going in for a pint till there train arrives, the west riding is the place to go and relax with a great pint.

This establishment is on platform two of Dewsbury Station and is served by trains from Northern and TransPennine Express. It consists of three rooms with a bar on the middle which offers a wide range of beers on hand pump. My friend and I tried 6 different ones and all were in good condition. The breweries were predominantly local including a favourite of mine, Timothy Taylors. The food on offer included pizza's, burgers, paninis, sandwiches and similar and was of good quality and at a reasonable price. To the question "Would we visit again?" We have a date booked!

Favourite place to drink amazing beer on a ale trail

Proper pub run by proper people. Decent beers and food. gets really busy at times. Quick update, Sunday lunch is still great value. Proper grub. Weekdays menu hasn't changed much and is still tasty and fair value. Ever changing beer menu gives you plenty of drinking choice. Still a top place for a feed and a drink or three.......

Was packed out for a mo town night. Bar looked like you would never be served but the bar staff where super fast, polite and friendly. Not bad at all for a boozer in dewsbury.

Ahh the West riding ! What can I say except it's a fantastic pub, which I frequent fairly frequently. It's the Dewsbury stop on the ale trail, and is probably one of the better pubs on the route. With a fantastic selection of ales (with ales changed over regularly!), and good pub grub can't really go wrong here. The pub also plays host to a number of bands on the weekends, as well as small festival type events every so often during the year. Good for a quiet drink during the week. Great for drinks with a group during the weekends - particularly great place to start the night I find (be warned we normally end up staying here much longer than we plan to 😉)!

Best Sunday lunch ever would of gave it 10 stars if it was there. Everything was cook to perfection well done.

Classic pub accessible from the station platform, but assuming you have a valid ticket, it's worth going through the barriers and entering the pub from the front. This is what a pub should look like, and top marks to whoever maintains all this foliage. Inside, you have 9 cask ales to choose from, decent food (especially on Sundays), and a ton of railway memorabilia. Perhaps best avoided on Saturdays, and increasingly Fridays, when people who think lager is "real ale" descend on the place doing the so-called ale trail. Rest of the time, it's a true gem.

A fantastic'proper' railway pub with great ales and great staff. It's worth missing a few trains.

Excellent for Sunday lunch. If there's no food on try a pork pie or a pasty. They also do homemade sausage rolls on occasion. They're to die for. Good selection of beers, loads of different ones to try every time with Landlord always on tap. Excellent jukebox, end up putting a fortune in it....

Friendly pub on platform of Dewsbury railway station. Cosy and comfortable with a warm welcome. A large and varied selection of real ales always available. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and are happy to supply tasters to help you select the perfect tipple for you. Unfortunately it can get uncomfortably crowded as pubs pull in from Leeds (West) and Manchester (East) and unload loads of drinkers following the 'Real ale Rail trail'

The West Riding is great pub. The open fires are so warm and inviting. It has a lively atmosphere and an amazing choice of ales, beers ciders etc. Something for everyone. A great place to visit, whether you're on your own, or in a group.

Always liked coming here,summer is great with bands on outside. Inside is full of train memorabilia posters and beer posters, and serves great real and craft ales, lagers and ciders ,seating near a pot bellied fire which was great for us as it was bloody cold out, They also serve food which looked and smelled nice, but I have not eaten here,so can't comment on that as yet.
