Shocking place the drink was flat the pub was dirty. Plus the bar staff was unprofessional and loosely dressed. Will not be coming back to Marsden again

Recommend this very highly to anyone looking for a nice place to enjoy a beverage! Great vibes :)

Great hospitality... lovely fireplace. The Mgt team really go the extra mile to help you enjoy your stay and advise from a tourists/visitor to the town perspective

I was in marsden with my wife, we have seen this pub many times in a popular tv show, we went in for a meal, the place was very dark and smelt foisty , three people in the place, Sunday lunchtime!! We we told they were not serving food and to go elsewhere.

Kitchen wasn't open so can't comment on the food. The ladies toilets were filthy. Overflowing bins and sanitary items strewn across the floor. An old dark atmosphere inside which might suit some tastes but felt very unwelcoming as visitors to the area. I saw a couple of walkers open the door to the pub, look inside and turn right around again! Tables were being moved around and placed in the middle of thoroughfares although I assume they weren't going to be there for long. Beer garden outside looked smart.

Sign outside states full English breakfast but they don’t open until 12/1pm

Saw an Oasis Tribute band there absolutely wonderful - and the man working behind the bar was very friendly

Went in on a Saturday. Staff were friendly, but on entering we outnumbered the other punters 10-1. Beer was well kept and the pool table/darts were fine. Friend had a good looking pork pie. Not my usual type of place, but certainly would go back

I preferred pretty much every other pub in the area

What can I say ' it's like going to your mates house as a kid and there mum makes you food . You eat it when your hungry . Don't dress up but it is dog friendly for all you walkers . Popular for hikers and the like . . .

Arrived too late for food, enjoyed a good pint whilst listening toThe Tigermen , a great Blues band. 🙂

Breakfast is fantastic and a decent price, with warm, friendly service

Played a gig there with my band, Bonnie Mac. Good beer and friendly place. Lot's of dancing too. Looking forward to going back in the near future.

Fantastic, staff are amazingly friendly and welcoming, watched some brilliant bands. No problems, happy people. Dog freindly, familys welcome during the days.

Me and some friends went there when it was quiet. A very atmospheric, characterful pub. We had a great night. Sadie was so lovely, and helpful.

Popped in for a quick pint after work. Found that they had live music playing. Quite noisy and hard to get away from. The outdoor space is good although needs more seating and umbrellas out front

Look out for the green LP with "legalise conkers" written on it. Worth the trip from Leeds.

Very friendly atmosphere, plenty of entertainment going on, large choice of beers and lagers. Chatted with landlady and Barney who were friendly and welcoming.

Everyone welcome, hikers, dog walkers, customers sweating in the current heatwave , food not sampled yet but bbq on my Sunday visit and live band music. Would always take a walking group here as done so in the past. Can be rowdy and too busy if the Yorks rail boozers are out. Prob Fri and Sats?

Didn't stay long Was on the Ale trail but was welcomed What a lovely pub Great outdoor space front and back ( the back space is amazing Plenty of seating) great sun trap !! Looks like they were doing a BBQ!! Will definitely go again 👏👏🍺🍺

Nice location only two minutes walk from the Marsden railway station. A very pleasant atmosphere, good beer and excellent live music.

We had a fantastic afternoon and evening in this lovely local pub. The Sunday Blues event was so much fun. I'm really looking forward to the next, even if it is an hours drive over the moors to get there.

Had the privilege to sample bits from thier menu yesterday, absolutely fantastic. Claire’s (guest chef) cooking skills added to the hospitality of all the staff and landlady of the Railway was exceptional 👍 Our first time at the pub and were made to feel like it was our local. Already planning to return shortly.

Called in last night before catching the train back to Manchester. Not been in The Railway Inn for many years but after a recent Re-Vamp was very impressed with the welcome we got off the Landlady, very friendly and quite a Character. Almost no choice of decent beer so had John Smiths which was undrinkable and left on the table

A new landlady just finding her feet, full of enthusiasm for the new venture, made us hot beef sandwiches even though she was really busy. Should be a go to place when she hits her stride.

Not many real ales on my visit but the blonde I had was good and the pub was warm and friendly.

went with a group of 20 following a swim in Sparth. Landlady catered for our specific requests. Service was good and food was hot/. Lovely afternoon

Called here after a very wet walk on Marsden Moor soaked to the skin ,asked the lady behind the bar if it was OK to come in wet she replied yes go sit near the fire .A lovely warm welcome

I was looking forward to visiting The Railway after its recent refurbishment but after yesterday's visit wish I hadn't bothered. Two pints of Timothy Taylor Boltmaker in plastic glasses at around £6 per pint. Clearly taking advantage of the Rail Ale trailers (we weren't) means I will not be returning. Not sure where the reviewers on here who call this place good value for money drink or compare it with.

Great boozer a 100 yds from the station. PS if you are doing the real ale train run then don't get off at Slitherwaite because there's no pub for about 2 miles! Well pi@@ed off. We had to get a taxi to Huddersfield!!!

Many thanks to Janice at The Railway Pub in Marsden, who organised seating for our walking group. It was a great way to end our day with drinks and a meal. Much appreciated. Recommend a welcome place to spend time,.

Wow... Great beer! Shame about the attitude of the grunting staff member. When ordering, I requested the beer to be poured without the sparkler. ( Some may shudder?) Appreciating the barmaid did not understand, I explained the bit of plastic needs to come off... From the back room - someone announced that it will be flat, with the dismissive "humph".... Due to the fact that I was waiting for somebody, I was in two minds if to move on, was this a dismissive comment or intentional jibe is unclear. But I felt rather uneasy as I waited, the young barmaid was rather pleasant, although the tone had been set by the commentary from the room behind the bar.. Shame really as the beer would have tasted better without the sour comment. Having worked in hotels, it always reminds me of the incident in Leeds city centre, where are our barman responded to a request for coffee with a dismissive " don't do coffee, just do beer". They just walked out, who knows if they wanted to stay a little longer... Would I visit again? To judge on this one visit may be harsh, but the beer was good enough to try again! So I will try again!

Great pub which is right next door to the canal. Clean and bright, reasonable prices. Very large beer garden. Friendly and professional staff to serve you with smile plus a good atmosphere. Worth a looking if your floating about on the canal.

AVOID. Food promised. No food provided. They told us they would still be serving food but when we returned in good time, they'd changed their mind. The other reviews of this pub are accurate it seems - they don't care about their customers and have a terrible attitude.

It says welcome walkers on the door…clearly not. The landlord was very rude. We were told off rudely for having our own snacks even though we did plan to order food!! He even commented that when we told him we had gone to buy a drink he said what to share! Bad attitude stay away there are many more places in Marsden to eat and drink

Plastic glasses! Never a good look. The landlady explained why. The Ale Trail. They come in and 'launch' them and worse. But if her stories and the unbreakable glasses were to make me feel safer, they didn't. But they weren't. They were for her and her staff. So we sat wondering if the hooligans would come in. They didn't. We tried to enjoy our beer and put the thought of violence out of our minds. But we didn't. We won't return.

It's potentially a very attractive pub, with good beer and a warm setting. We visited on Saturday afternoon ahead of an Ale Trail invasion and were served beer in plastic glasses. I sympathize with the owners and will write to West Yorks Police to ask what they plan to do but for our party, the glasses and being regaled by the landlady of horror stories of violence mean that we won't be returning. Why would I want to drink in a pub where the owners are so sure of violence and anti social behaviour that they refuse to use glass for fear that the will be thrown or smashed in people's faces?. What a state this country is in!

Visited Tuesday 27th December for lunch. Staff appeared not to have a clue. Ordered 2 for £12 off the menu was told couldn't have as was bank holiday. Menu stated offer was Tuesday to Friday no mention of bank holiday. When questioned was told I had 2 choices either pay full price or get a refund. Had to eat as has a child with us. Asked about child menu finally got one which was extremely sparce. The free drink never arrived. Food was OK standard pub food. Won't be visiting again due to the standard of service.

Called in today for lunch around 2pm Never have I received such bad service. Over charged with no apology and told that's how it is as they're busy and the menu was printed wrong. A community owned pub should be greatful of the business and be apologetic. Will not be visiting again!!!!

Stopped in for Sunday lunch, they didn't have a vegetarian option on menu but the girl done something for my wife which was really good of her. Food was lovely both my roast dinner and my wife's vegi meal. Staff friendly and very helpful only thing that stopped me giving it 5 star's is the size of coffee cup maybe bigger cups or free refills.

Nice find after a short train journey

Hadn't been in for a while and was very surprised at the changes which have been done. It's like a different pub , and as a bonus for me they had farmers blonde on too. The new couple who've taken it over are from the dark side of the Pennines , although they appear very nice and friendly..

Very good service and enjoyable

Really excellent home made Sunday lunch. It was home cooking at its best. Sat in the lovely garden at the back in the sun! Definitely will be back to try more of the menu. Friendly staff welcomed us. Great local for Marsden.

Good home made pie for great value and big beer garden. The pub is under new ownership, I believe that the owner can't remove the previous bad reviews given to the previous owner. The staff were all very friendly and is worth a visit.

Very friendly and much improved by new landlord.Called after walking and sat outside in a very pleasant area.Hubbie said beer v good.Would certainly call again.
