I entered teh shop for a take away as I was shopping in Chichester and was hungry. I saw a very inviting looking pasty 'Beef and chilli' advertised at £4.70 take way price. I offered a £5 Bank of England note (Legal tender in England I am led to believe). I was told 'I am unable to accept cash' I shall be complaining to trading standards about this but in the mean time please don't shop here until they accept the currency of the land.

A busy place which does take away pasties although there are tables if you want to sit and eat. At just over £4 it compares fairly well with a sandwich. The service is brisk and less than polite. I asked if they did cold pasties to take home and heat later but was told hot, or frozen... Not sure why anyone would want to buy a frozen one...? Also found it strange that it was card-only payments. This seems rather restrictive as we're through the pandemic now. Surely customers should be given the choice of how to pay, as they are in other places.

Just popped into this shop for a quick bite and was amazed at the service they gave. As soon as I walked in the Manager, Sue welcomed us in and asked what would we like I chose a prawn baguette and my wife had a pasty. Having ordered a tea and a coffee with our pasty, we were told they would bring the drinks to our table. After over 15 minutes I approached the barista and asked about our drinks. I had to give him my receipt whilst he then did our drinks with no explanation why it had taken so long. Other people had been served who had ordered after us. I spoke to the manageress who insisted when I asked what system they had in place for giving customers their drinks, she was dismissive saying they got them in order, no offer of an apology. To make matters worse my coffee was cold.

Me and my daughter stopped in here to get a quick snack whilst visiting the Christmas market. Small queue just around lunch time and lots of options. We only had a large sausage roll and a cold drink but the girl who served us was very polite and point d out were the knife and forks were . As we hadn't been here before it was nice she did . The food in here is quality bit more expensive than your average but we both enjoyed our sausage roll 4.50 for bottle coke and large sausage roll. The cleanliness at the back was a bit iffy but we did have to move a few plates and so did other customers onto one table so we could sit . Other than that there is one toilet so get in there whilst you can lol . We were only in there half hour but when we left the queue was massive and most the pasties had sold . We popped in for a takeaway couple of pasties yesterday and they were delicious. We had the traditional and they were full of filling and nicely seasoned - plenty of black pepper as they should be. They had an interesting selection of non- traditional ones too - including Thai green curry which I will try another time. The place does a good passing trade, however based on feedback on this site and our experience yesterday, the management of this place need to up their game. Yesterday there was a young lad all on his own as nobody else had turned up for work and as a result (through no fault of the chap) service was slow. Every place should have a staffing fallback - especially on a Bank Holiday. Food is excellent though and we would use again,

Since new management it has gone downhill. quality of food is poor and we witnessed food that had been displayed in the window for god knows how long being unmade and the ingredients being put back in the heated pots to reheat and reserve to customers. Honestly no idea where all the negativity in some of these reviews has come from! Must be folks who have never worked in the service industry and don't understand the difficulties that come with working in a fast paced, high pressure customer service environment! I've been coming into this shop for breakfast/coffee for a few years now and it's been improving constantly! 5/5 for customer services, all the ladies in this shop are friendly efficient and attentive. The quality of the food is impeccable and is completely unmatched in chichester in my opinion. If I had to pick a negative point I would say the coffee is only a 4/5 but quite frankly great service across the board in every other way makes up for it. £4.25 for a large bacon roll with a Cumberland spiral sausage, x2 hash browns, sauce and a large hot drink. I think this is pretty reasonable, especially for Chichester! Hands down three times better than Greggs so well worth the extra pennies! All in all a really great spot! Thanks again WCPC! :) Freddie (unbiased review based on personal experiences over the last year or so - I work in a shop nearby so have the pleasure of frequenting this 1 or 2 mornings a week)

Nothing good about our visit. The queue was out of the door, but that was due to the poor layout of the counter not because it was massively busy. I ordered two medium pasty meals having chosen from the display in the window. I was told the steak and stilton pasty had sold out, when I said there was one in the window I was informed they were for display only. Tip: Take it out of the window if you don't have any left. I chose a chicken and mushroom pasty and my partner had the traditional pasty and although I said on more than one occasion 2 medium meals, was given a large pasty. I had wedges and beans, both of which were cold. My partner had mash (which we had to wait for to be 'made') and beans the potato was warm and the beans were tepid. My pasty was hot, my partners tepid. We were charged the price of the individual components rather than the advertised meal deal price.

I met a very dear friend that I regrettably don't see very often in Chichester and we decided to use the West Cornwall Pasty shop because the smell of the pasties was wafting out of the door into the street outside and caught my nose.We were given a very friendly welcome and served immediately, the staff member explaining what the offers and meal deals were. She was very knowledgeable about the company's products and their manufacture and was attentive and charming. My friend and I enjoyed a long talk in the upstairs section of the seating area, sharing a quiet, intimate space and a comfy leather sofa whilst we had a lazy lunch and tea and coffee together and caught up with each other's life news. We were so comfortable we lost track of time and managed to spend 2½ hours before making a hasty exit to the overdue car parking ticket. The only negative I can say about is that the tea isn't as hot as it should be. On my second round I asked for it to be served in a pot and it still wasn't hot. I suspect that it is made using water that isn't boiling from a machine rather than a kettle. Sort that problem out and I won't have any criticisms at all.

Don't be put off by the frequent queues out the door. Yes it may take a little longer to get served but it is worth the wait. There are usually a large variety of pasties available including a few options for vegetarians (the cheese, tomato and basil is my personal favourite). You can turn your pasty into a meal by adding wedges and mushy peas/beans and they serve a selection of hot and cold drinks. On a sunny day they have both indoor and outdoor seating - if there is space then upstairs in the window overlooking the courtyard is lovely. My only critique is that the pastry can be quite heavy on the stomach because there is a lot of it. I'm sure I'd be complaining more if there wasn't enough pastry though!

It seems as though this place has just changed management... for better or worse I'm not too sure yet. The new staff are friendly and polite, though they don't yet have the chemistry and work atmosphere that the old bunch had. I like the new white walls! Regarding the food, it's good - but I had a steak and ale pasty the other day and it genuinely was 90% potato and carrot - which was still delicious - but I paid a good amount of money for steak. They also have a new way of serving the wedges, multiple pots of wedges are (wasted?) on display, and then you get a fresh cup - which is normally lovely, but sometimes all the wedges get a bit too dry under the heat lamp and just aren't enjoyable! Never the less, it is a lovely place, and has lovely food. Will always come here, just could be improved with tiny tweaks.

Had lunch here today and was very disappointed. We've bought take away pasties before from here and they were fine -- too hot if anything. Today we had the pasty meal with wedges and peas/beans. The food was tepid and the choice restricted. OK, it was late (nearly 2, probably) but the wait to be served was long, most tables were uncleared and you couldn't call the staff's attitude welcoming. I suspect that they need at least 1 more member of staff to keep the place clean and help out the 2 serving customers. A further minor moan -- the floor is laid with flagstones which by their very nature are uneven so the tables wobble causing your drink to spill when there is the slightest pressure on the table (like cutting up your pasty). Get it together, guys - not much needed to make this a whole other experience.

The seating area of the shop downstairs is a bit dark and dingy, the food is served on dark plates, and you can see the thumb prints on the plates, which is a bit off putting, I'm not saying the place is unclean, I think it just needs modernising, Having said that, I wouldn't eat here again.

Both my wife & I were looking forward to sampling a true cornish pastie in between Xmas and the New Year, unfortunately it was not to be.The "cafe" was not crowded, but nearly all the tables had not been cleared from the previous occupants dishes, so it was left to me to clear one, as she queued for the food and drinks. My Cornish pastie was the standard type and was not as big as a Gingsters (or maybe it had just shrunk - read on), it was very dry inside and the option of having ketchup was not going to happen as there was no ketchup available (only brown sauce) - My wife had an alternative pastie, which to be fair was OK, but this was compared to mine ! The tea was a small cup offering (unlike the other local cafe's), but my wife said (again) her coffee was "OK". Overall we were both very dissapointed and will not be going back until we see continuous praise over the coming year.

Great for breakfast................hot, delicious Cornish pasties including my favourite with lamb. And a lovely, friendly lady manning the counter. I will definitely be back again and again.

Had lunch here today before the Theatre , and wouldn't do so again .... The 3 men behind the counter were completely disinterested in their job , off hand to the point of rudeness .....The food was over-priced and very average .....The tables hadn't been cleared , and we were given one plate for two pasties , and it took 3 attempts to get given another one ......Very , very poor , I'm afraid .

I visited this restaurant today, what a shock. The food was very expensive for tasteless almost meatless, pasties. Watery hot chocolate. Very dirty generally. Certainly wouldnt dream of returning. This company needs to have a long hard look at itself,. Yhe young lady serving however, was most polite.

I have been going here for 2 or 3 years and frequently enjoyed a varety of pasties , wedges coffee etc. On the last few visits to Chichester I have found myself eating elsewhere. Why? At the West Cornwall Pasty shop the food is satisfactory but the cleanliness of this shop has gone down hill. This is not just on one visit which may be a bad or busy day but seems to be the low standard maintained here. So I'm off elsewhere unless the sticky tables and grubby floor improve; trouble is I will miss a good pasty!

Sorry, but the pasty I had was greasy, not very hot and had bits of gristle in it. Yuck. Wouldn't go back, that's for sure. Seems very popular though so maybe it's just me.

Having visited this restaurant on several occasions over the last few years, In-laws visiting during the Easter break seemed a perfect opportunity to visit Chichester and 1st stop once there was the West Cornwall Pasty Shop. We are a family of 4 adults and 3 children. The cost of 4 pasties 4drinks and 2sausage rolls was an eye popping £27.. What had happened to the comfy leather sofas we once sank into? The crockery was dirty, as was the cutlery, and although it was replaced on request(somewhat begrudgingly), it would have been nice to be given it clean in the first instance. The milk jugs given x3 I honestly believe had been doing the rounds all day as one was full, one half full and one almost empty smacks of days gone by when I worked in the restaurant trade but the missing link was the refill and clean. The teacups and teapots were also dirty and one had a crack in it. By the time we came to pour the tea to have to ask for all the dirty cups to be changed would have been tiresome. The pasties themselves are lovely and as always served hot but they do seem to be getting smaller!!

If you want to get a pasty here, take out! Get in and get OUT. I refuse to go back here because of the staff. It's a shame because the food is good, just a shame they all come frozen and all they do is cook them. When I didn't know about this place, everyone was telling me its always packed and the line is out the door. Well no wonder why the staff are always unhappy. Serving all those customers all day! Maybe they should get a different career if customer service is such a hard thing to do.One girl asked "what do you want" then took one look at me - looked at one of the older staff members who had a face like a slapped a***, then she just walked away to go play with the oven. The older "cheerful" lady took my order, literally snatched my money off me, then shoved me my pasty. Charming. I I'm glad to say I have not returned since, and a long detailed email to management about their staffing issues will be written. It's just amusing that it takes more muscles to frown then it does to smile.

Perhaps they have escaped from Cornwall. To be honest...don't bother. Dreadful service, food, grim. I thought pricey. Decor horrid, amateurish painting. Scruffy tables needed to be cleaned. Cramped so not easy with kids. It's a shame as the idea is good and it has potential. Go anywhere else.

This cafe/pasty takeaway has a good selection of pasties; they make em in different sizes with all sorts of weird and wonderful fillings, including vegetarian. However, from the outside (of the pasty!) they all look the same.... as we ordered different ones for each of our party, we asked if we could have separate plates. The staff member serving us was extremely sarcastic, and rude, and wouldn't do it, basically. Luckily, no one was vegetarian, as they could have bitten easily into a non- veg one by accident. Shame because it spoiled our experience, especially at around £5 for each pasty, plus a drink on top of that, it s not a particularly cheap option. There are loads of little cafes and restaurants in Chichester, and therefore, it's unlikely we would go there again, with such rude staff.

This place is always busy around lunchtime, hardly surprising given the value. Sadly, I have recently found that my clothes have smelt of smoke after I leave, which is unusual these days. I have also found the food to sometimes be undercooked, which can spoil things. Whilst I respect the concept, this place is a victim of it's own success, offering value that is head and shoulders above anywhere else of it's kind.
