We visited midweek in November so it was quiet, but the staff we still very attentive and professional. We just had the fish and chips, I wasn't expecting much but the fish was huge and perfectly cooked. Real smashy peas and chunky chips, perfect when you need comfort food. This was the fist time visiting since the new parking regulations were introduced and it's a bit confusing for the casual visitor, but that's Premier Marina's problem not Boat House!

Food was OK, though rather meagre in the essential core ingredient, ie smoked haddock kedgeree. Service at front of house was very much take it or leave it when enquiring of mussels. Not exactly seating you where you might prefer to sit with a number of empty tables available. Value for money, far from outstanding. A venue for well breeched customers in a well to do area, and it showed. While the place was efficiently run & clean it didn’t really benefit the average customer too much.

Member of our group had a dog, so we were placed in the 'extension'. Lighting was hardly sufficient to see each other or our food (it was a grey day) Service was slow to standard. Food - the pound doesn't go far in this restaurant for a mediocre meal, in a poorly lit, lacking in atmosphere restaurant. We were a large party of 11 - and all left without coffee or dessert due to service.

Beautiful location great variety of food. One gripe that stopped me giving 5 stars is you have to queue up as you go in to order and pay for your food we wanted to sit outside so I’m not sure if it applied to inside dining too. Also we wanted another drink half way through our meal and was told we had to queue up again to order a drink as they had no facilities for payment behind their bar area So basically, there was at least four people waiting to order food and drinks so I could’ve been there for at least 20 minutes in which time my food would’ve gone stone cold it’s a ridiculous system.

I'm visiting from NZ and enjoyed a late lunch at the Boat House on 30/09/24. Well presented dining area, clean and gracefully modern. Lovely front of house staff. There’s a fixed price menu as well as their main menu. Although it's not perhaps usual, I was graciously enabled to choose 3 courses from the different menus. The food was fresh and delicious. Service was lovely and the atmosphere quite chilled. Wine list was good with a few Sussex wines to select as well.

We had a delicious breakfast after a walk around the marina. The coffee was delicious, and the scrambled egg was light and fluffy on perfectly cooked toast, nicely presented. I feel terribly bad about leaving a poor review seeing as the manager did address our concerns with my husband before leaving but I do believe people should be fully informed before making a decision on where to eat. I am hoping the experience was a one off maybe with some new staff in training - I speculate. On arrival with a <1yr old, please offer a high chair rather than a regular chair if you have one available (they do have high chairs). I don’t know how our order was misplaced but had the staff been attentive then they would have noticed that we were still awaiting our food an hour later and those who ordered after us had all been served and one had even left already. There were only two other occupied tables inside at the time. We were however offered complimentary drinks and olives with sour dough as an apology. Unfortunately the thick cut chips with the fish and chips were not cooked and I assume had been defrosted before cooking as the texture and taste was a bit odd. The fish itself was fine but the batter was overcooked and tasteless. The presentation was not on par with what I have seen in photos, especially when it came to the prawn linguini. This was literally linguini pasta with a dribble of oil, a few sliced olives, a tiny bit of chilli and about five small prawns. No sauce at all, no tomato, just very dry and bland. A very different appearance to the same dish that is photographed in one of the other reviews on here which has a sauce with it. The cheese and bacon burger was according to our friend, quite bland too but was certainly the best dish out of the three. Unfortunately the cutlery was not fully clean and one chair was dirty. I do hope that management address the issues which appear to be cropping up with our visit and seemingly with others, as this cafe has the potential to be really good and it wouldn’t take much to get it there. I don’t know what happened today with the food. I am hoping it was a one-off but what I will say is that the manager did genuinely apologise and make a generous offer to my husband. This was the first time my husband has ever offered to pay only what we thought the food was worth and not what would have been a bill of around £70 to £80. (Amended my mistype - prawn linguini not risotto).

Stopped here for a quick bite. The place is ok but the table was dirty. I had sausage roll for £7 which although was good quality was only a small piece and tasted like it had sat a while. My wife had an olive scone but it tasted like it needed more cooking, very doughy. That with 2 hot drinks came to over £15 which I expect at a marina but not for poorly warmed food and small portion. Very much set up for boat people money.

Good food, efficient & courteous staff, lovely setting. We were a party of 12, 8 adults & 4 children plus a dog, who turned up for brunch on our way home from our holiday in West Wittering. We requested outside tables and the staff showed us to 3 tables situated together - we were happy to sit as 3 tables if 4 rather than have tables moved. Although the sun was shining, the furniture was still wet from overnight rain and the staff came with paper towel to dry it all off. There was something on the menu to suit all tastes, including gluten free options. Food arrived in a reasonable time, was hot and tasty. Possibly not the cheapest but I prefer to pay more for a good experience. Well done .

We had lunch here a couple of days ago, we both ordered fish and chips expecting what is basically a fish restaurant to be a fantastic meal. Oh dear! The food was by far the worst I've had, the chips were fat, hard on the outside.... Lovely you might think until you find they are still hard on the inside also. The fish was so over cooked the batter was concrete and the fish dry and tasteless, home made tartar sauce..... Better stick to Tescos!! The service was average at best, girls walking around with a look of superiority but were far from it. I refused to pay for my meal as I just couldn't eat it, the wife ate half of hers but we were still charged even though it was terrible. Never go back here and most definitely do not recommend!!

We stopped by here during a circular walk from Fishbourne. Situated in an ideal location by the harbour, there's plenty of seating outdoors on the terrace. The staff were happy to accommodate our well behaved dog too. The menu is quite simple, but has lots of tasty choices. Given it was a hot day we had Caesar salad and Asian 'slaw salad, both with very generous portions of smoked trout on top. The caesar had plenty of anchovies and parmesan cheese and the sauce was light and not overpowering. The asian 'slaw had a gentle chinese five spice and sesame type flavour running through the dressing, with chunks of fresh mango and avocado sprinkled throughout the dish. The cheeseboard was great! Quality ingredients, a goats, blue and smoked cheese, with grapes and assorted crackers. The staff also filled our water bottles without fuss, to aid us on our onward walk back to Fishbourne in the heat We'll be back.

Just that food is coming soon. Another 15 min and seemingly still no food. At this point kids were starving so cancelled the food and went home. Totally spoiled start of our holiday. The setting is quite pretty but the service doesn't warrant high prices! I eat out regularly in places like Claridges and Wolseley where prices are almost similar, but they know how to treat guests and certainly deserve amazing rating. Haven’t been to the Boat House for while, but it use to be a special treat lunch for us. However, today’s experience means we won’t be going back anytime soon. We had a selection of the tapas / light bites but unfortunately it was mostly flavourless. We couldn’t taste any of the garlic or chilli that the king prawns were supposedly cooked in, the vegan anti pasta board appeared to have all come out of glass jars or pots, and the calamari was cut so thin and overcooked that it was crunchy. I have never seen calamari cut so small and I am annoyed with myself that I didn’t send that back. The restaurant was not busy so could see no reason why more cafe was not taken with the food. When the bill came we had been charged for an extra glass of wine we didn’t have, and to top it all there was a 12.5% ‘discretionary’ charge added - which we didn’t pay. The staff were all helpful but we did have to chase to get some drinks. There was a male waiter serving (not us) who could do with lowering his voice rather than shouting to the bar across the restaurant and generally showing off. Overall underwhelming and overpriced.

Reviewing the restaurant not the cafe of same ownership on same site. Chosen for location/convenience. /parking on a damp midweek lunchtime. Abysmal selection of soft drinks. I asked for citron presse or natural lemonade (i.e. fresh lemon squeezed into water basically) which this pretentious establishment could not offer (no fresh lemons??!!) We were only offered fizzy drinks of various types or pre packaged juices. Tap water had to suffice for 2 out of the 3 of us then. Minimalist food tasty but overpriced. Interrupted twice by staff asking if we were enjoying meal. Toilets cubicles opening directly onto corridor, clean and modern but only unisex available, no ladies only . No view of the waterfront from inside. Realise their overheads for this site (and probably enhanced pay for staff as not close to accommodation or public transport) may be reflected in the overall costing but they need to up their game with better quality ,natural ,simple non alcoholic drinks.

Poor service let this experience down. The lovely lady on the front desk was so friendly and helpful and showed us to our table. This was a wet bank holiday Sunday and they were vey quiet. The problem seemed to be one guy making drinks and lots of other girls just milling around. I had to get up from my table several times and ask for water and an extra drink. When the breakfast eventually came the waitress said here you are and walked off Again we had to go and ask for sauces. Maybe the staff were new/ inexperienced but it was quite frustrating. As birth holders for 10 years in the marina we have seen many changes to the restaurant and we did think the last few years has been a lot better. We would highly recommend the food and wine list is extensive. We don’t mind paying premium prices for the quality of the food but the service needs to come up to the same standard.

We’ve been here a few times previously and every time it was exceptional - unfortunately today’s visit (26/5/24) was very different. The menu has changed to be rather plain and they no longer have specials which is disappointing. Between arrival and receiving our main courses was 1.5 hours, with only 3/8 of the party having a starter, meaning the majority of the group were starving by the time the mains arrived, and the staff were initially slow to offer us a second round of drinks. The food was bland, which as previously said, was very unlike previous visits - our daughter had mussels which arrived luke warm. The staff were very apologetic and gave desserts and some drinks on the house. We’ll try again as it really is a lovely restaurant in beautiful surroundings and previous experiences have been very positive, but there are definite elements that require improving to return to where it once was.

The Boathouse was the venue for a very special private party to celebrate the life of my late husband. Sophie and her team did a wonderful job for us, providing the most amazing finger buffet for 40 people - even adding a few extras to satisfy larger appetites, and supplying some pretty flower arrangements at no extra cost. They easily accommodated the live 6-piece band, and re-arranged the furniture to make room for dancing. All the staff were friendly (as always!), attentive and professional, and worked very hard to help make it a memorable occasion. All my guests and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I couldn't have been happier with the success of my party, so many thanks to all of you at The Boathouse!

Staff were pretty good. Food was lovely. We were told it would take a while (20 mins) but no issue with that. My advice is pay via the App. 12.5% discretionary surcharge came to £22.00. Paid by App I got a 18.5% discount on the food & drinks, reducing my bill somewhat….I did leave a tip, but not £22,00. We were only a table of 4 as well. If you take my advice, then a pricey meal turns out not do pricey. Great location as well👍

Had to wait one hour twenty minutes for lunch on Sunday. Staff knew there was a long wait but didn't tell us; if we'd known we would not have waited. Food very mediocre.

The coffee shop is excellent. The staff seem friendly, and my wife said that the hot chocolate and the sausage roll with the best she’s ever had! Mine was also excellent. It’s lovely to go somewhere and not feel disappointed. This is about the coffee shop next door and not the restaurant.

Popped in for a last-minute lunch in March 2024. The staff are super friendly, and the chef did an amazing job with the food! We certainly enjoyed it and highly recommend people coming here. I would imagine in the summer, the views would be even better.

Very good food and service. Good menu. Just be aware that the cafe and restaurant are two separate places a very short walk from each other.

Great tasting coffee and loved having the games to play as we had our grandchildren with us and we used the chess board and snakes and ladders. Highly recommend The Boathouse Cafe which has friendly professional service.

We had dinner in the restaurant and thought it was great. A good menu with lots of gluten free options, the service was friendly and efficient, and the food was delicious!

A college re-union with several friends for an informal lunch. Lovely location - ample car parking. Easy booking procedures both online & verbally by phone. Warm welcome with everybody & everything pre-organized by the team on arrival - nothing too much trouble. Bistro style menu with more than adequate choice on size / cost & variety for all diets. Service levels friendly , efficient & not overbearing throughout. Food quality above average Drink range - overall good , with their presentation a little lack lustre for the prices charged. Value ? - as expected , reasonable. This restaurant style venue ( with a separate Cafe style operation next door ) has been refurbished & certainly presents itself well , not only through modern / welcoming decor but also well looked after facilities throughout. Re-visit ? - yes.

Went to the cafe part of the boathouse. The coffee was great but the tables were really dirty (not only ours, a lot of them were grubby) I asked for it to be wiped after which I dried it with a tissue and it was black! Not the young girl's fault, she was running the show on her own, washing up, serving etc. Just need more staff. I will only go back because of the location and with some wipes.

I entered teh shop for a take away as I was shopping in Chichester and was hungry. I saw a very inviting looking pasty 'Beef and chilli' advertised at £4.70 take way price. I offered a £5 Bank of England note (Legal tender in England I am led to believe). I was told 'I am unable to accept cash' I shall be complaining to trading standards about this but in the mean time please don't shop here until they accept the currency of the land.

This place is always busy around lunchtime, hardly surprising given the value. Sadly, I have recently found that my clothes have smelt of smoke after I leave, which is unusual these days. I have also found the food to sometimes be undercooked, which can spoil things. Whilst I respect the concept, this place is a victim of it's own success, offering value that is head and shoulders above anywhere else of it's kind.

Love the new layout of the bar and the opening up of the fireplace. Proper cosy pub and friendly staff
