We picked our new puppy up in November and on Christmas Eve we took a drive to Littlehampton Beach knowing it is dog friendly. My only negative is signage to get to West Beach is extremely poor. After a great walk, we headed to West Beach Cafe to warm up and grab a bite to eat. We were greeted by the owner who was so upbeat, friendly and chatty. The food is cooked to order and delicious. Our doggy was made very welcome and given treats. We had such a great experience, we went back in January to celebrate our birthdays and once again finished our day off with a visit to the cafe. Another great visit....in the words of Arnie... we'll be back! ❤️

If you can believe that on a Bank holiday weekend, they ran out of some food 12 mins after opening and it was only the start of the weekend! Cafe extremely busy, nobody eating, just milling about waiting to be served. One woman demanded her money back after waiting 25 Mins for one cup of tea, which never arrived! Six members of staff, 4 looked like teenagers, untrained and clueless, no more so than the girl making coffee who was more interested in her nails than her job. Woman on the till, who I assume was the owner, was rude and totally inefficient. Personally, I would’ve got a member of staff who wasn’t doing anything, (because there were only limited items available) to cycle off to Morrison’s up the road and buy a load of provisions. Common sense no?, but doh, that would’ve been too logical The menu is also very limited, which is fine if that means they do a small selection but well, but sadly this isn’t the case. This place will always make a living but purely by where it is, as there’s no competition, certainly not by good service or food. After waiting 23 mins for two drinks I asked for a refund. Disorganisation like I’ve never seen before. Actually quite painful to stand and watch and not say anything. Still wanting breakfast, we popped into the Marina and they have a cafe there. No sign outside to imply that though. Welcoming staff and service and they allow dogs. A bit pricey, but big outside deck overlooking the marina. Don’t bother going to the West Beach Cafe, I certainly won’t be.

We spent £25-30 pounds as take away food and drink and yet were abused for using the toilet. It ruined our day out with our children. My son was shouted at and then my friend and I were also made to feel like criminals. I would avoid this place. If they have rules about using the toilet they should have a better way of monitoring who has actually spend money there. The food was over priced, it’s packed and unfriendly. I’d take a picnic and avoid. Or go to the other cafe.

We had some friends staying with us so yesterday we headed over to Littlehampton to walk from the East beach along the promenade, up the Arun, over the bridge and down the other side to West Beach and the nature reserve and old fort ruins, then back again. The West Beach cafe was the perfect stop at the half way point, with great views out over the Arun estuary and out to sea. We sat inside the bright cafe, with interesting art work for sale on the walls. All the cafe staff were lovely, friendly and professional. They serve a really good variety of food and drinks. The fish and chips were freshly cooked with lovely crisp batter and really fresh fish. Good chips, well cooked. The coated squid with tangy chilli sauce was really tender and a lovely peppery coating. Other pals' choices were much enjoyed too - I tried a whitebait from one of my pals and it was light and crisp and fresh and yummy. Very good value especially compared to other nearby places. The chefs creates all this from his tiny kitchen. Can't recommend this cafe enough. Interesting that it was an early project by the now famous and prolific architect Asif Khan.

Truly love this busy little cafe at West Beach. The owners are new this summer, I think. It's certainly had an overhaul since last summer. We have always found the staff here to be friendly and welcoming. We've spent many a happy time at the beach and river here and it's been made even more special this year by the lovely new vibe of West Beach Cafe. There's a fantastic view across the river to the beaches opposite and the new owners have utilised this by having bar chairs and a bench table right across the front of the cafe. Great place to sit and watch the world go by as you drink one of their excellent coffees. The interior is so colourful - love the mugs! We really enjoy having breakfast here. The bacon sandwiches are so good. Our daughter says the vegetarian sausages are the best she's ever had! There's plenty of seating outside. It can get busy but it's always worth the wait for the freshly prepared food. If you're after fast food you're in the wrong place. This is a lovely relaxed cafe on the beach. Dogs are welcomed and there is outside seating and 'inside' seating though the front of the building is opened up so it's all outside really with a nice view of Littlehampton beach. I ordered scampi and chips with a ginger beer and my friend had the fish and chips. Delicious!! It was the best scampi I have tasted - sweet and fresh, no greasiness to it at all. We chose the West Beach Cafe over many other locations after reading that it was one of the best places to eat outside in the UK. However, we were in for a disappointment: they had run out of food at 5pm on Saturday (open till 7) and only had cake (meh) and sandwiches (mostly bread) left. This used to be a lovely cafe. However when there yesterday, I thought it was appalling. Was refused a cup of coffee at 10.50 (even though a lady was there and everything was open) as they don't open until 11. I waited 10 minutes for my coffee and it was just instant as the machine had broken a few days earlier and they hadn't had the chance to fix it! A croissant or pastry of some kind would have been nice, but only a couple of chocolate bars available. Very limited menu. When returning just before 5 to buy ice creams for the family, it was all closed up! The furniture is sad as was the lady working there who looked like she'd rather be anywhere else. They have a captive audience and it is incredible that they don't seem to be interested.

We've used this cafe on and off since it opened but this was our first visit in 2016. Sadly, it's beginning to look a bit shabby and the fare is going the same way. The indoor table we sat at was wobbly and dirty and the outdoor furniture was much the same. The staff were fairly disinterested in their surroundings. We had a drink with a view to having something to eat but when we saw what was being served on adjoining tables we decided against, as it looked very mediocre and overpriced. On a sunny weekday earlier this week, we took the ferry across to West Beach to walk our dogs and end with tea and cake. As regular diners at East Beach Cafe, we imagined this would be a lovely end to our walk. Sadly this was not the case. At 3.30pm the interior chairs were on tables and one of the the members of staff was clearing up around us outside - taking in tables, emptying the rubbish, closing up the front of the cafe etc. We were one of several couples to enquire if the cafe was still open. Inside, there were no cakes and our tea had to be accompanied by the single chocolate bar available on the counter. Staff weren't rude but were clearly hoping for an early getaway, now thwarted by paying customers. If we had an alternative we would have taken it, but sadly this was it...It seems West Beach Cafe is trading off it's partner, but clearly it's not working. Please put the same effort into this cafe.. This just doesn't cut it- even as an unpretentious fish & chip shop, there are many better places and for tea and cake - better bring your own.

With outstanding views across the river and over towards the east beach side of Littlehampton, this solitary café gave welcome shelter one wet and blustery day in May. My bedraggled dog and I were made to feel at home, and our spirits were soon boosted by a dish of sausage and chips and a mug of hot chocolate. I wasn't looking for fine dining, and yes, perhaps the price was a bit higher than I would have liked, but there is no competition at this location. It is the sole establishment serving West Beach, and for me, it was satisfactory. OK, so there are no toilets, but the public ones are just around the back and are fine (remember to take 20p for the slot). I like the fact that they have colouring sheets for children to colour in. They also offer a nice range of local beers and ciders.

I really like East Beach cafe. Basic food done really well and in an atmospheric environment. So you would expect the sister restaurant on the other side of the water, West Beach Cafe to be of a similar standard of cooking even though it basically sells fish and chips. The staff were OK, not impolite but not particularly friendly either. They serve you from behind a counter and you eat at long tables inside or outside. £80 later our group of 8 sat down to - in some cases - overcooked fish. And in all cases really cheap and nasty condiments - watery vinegar, vinegary tartare sauce, cheap ketchup. Oh dear. Such a shame because it is such a fantastic location. At the very least, please up the quality of your condiments.

People were waiting an hour for their food, one family gave up, and the one guy there said 'sorry' as part of every interaction: ie sorry for the wait, sorry we haven't got any more....After a long wait, in what could be quirky/low-tech surroundings but take off the rosey glasses and it's a bit of a dive, the scampi was overcooked and the chips were bland. Everyone goes on about the great view, which you can get for free.Won't walk a mile to get here again, sadly. Could be great, but they really need to care about the customers!

A beach side cafe that also does really good food as well as the usual fare. Eat outside on a sunny day and watch the river join the sea.

Having eaten at the East Beach Café we were looking forward to trying this place. On a wet and blustery day we hoped for a hot drink and some food. This place makes a lot of the fact it is a sister establishment to East Beach café but is dragging it down. It is only a hut but that is no excuse for poor quality tea, the worst chips we have ever eaten and service bordering on the surly. The couple running it couldn't care less. It is far from clean too. Better to take a flask. No toilets either.

Please note this is not a review of the establishment highlighted but a review of the events that take place here as there is no page for just Littlehampton. If I could give 0 stars I would, terrible experience for the whole family. As soon as we arrived there is a couple of scallies on the floor surrounded by police being arrested, streets are littered with Stella-drinking locals and foreigners selling cheap toys. As for the procession...a mini JCB digger covered in tin foil on the back of a wagon was the highlight of the night for me, I've seen year 2 nativities with more effort than this shambles. If you enjoy Yates' Wine Lodge on a Saturday night then you'll love this. Jeremy Kyle would have a field day.

Most pleased to find this little café whilst exploring the area after a long drive down the narrow lane. Unfortunately they had recently been broken into so were unable to open fully.Rather basic seating inside and out but very busy with friendly polite staff. Our lunchtime snack was really tasty with quite large portions, so really enjoyable. We would visit again when in the area.

Ostensibly a fish and chip shop, and an expensive one at that, but they were unable to deliver fish and chips within an hour on a Saturday lunchtime. Only 3 orders went out in the time I waited; the first, 4 maybe 5 items, came out one item at a time over 15 minutes. The second order was 2 cheese and pickle baguettes; the customer waited 30 minutes and then had to return one of the baguettes because the bread was stale and mouldy. The third order was ok, but they had waited at least 45 minutes. I gave up when I realised that our 1 hour parking ticket was about to run out. I asked for, and was given my money back. It was now after 2pm and my 4 year old went without the lunch they'd been promised - we went home and had a sandwich, but there is an hour of my life gone that I'll never get back having spent it in a shabby, dirty, disorganised space, listening to other people's hungry children crying. Thankfully my own child is extraordinarily patient.

Quirky little cafe down on the cobbles. Had a lovely lunchtime bite, then was able to go down onto the beach and walk over the sand dunes!

We've been coming to West Beach Cafe year-round for a long time. What was once a hidden gem is not a shadow of it's former self. It's as though

I went there with a friend after a walk. It had started to rain so we thought we'd have a coffee and some cake. It was not yet closing time, about 45 minutes before. We were told we couldn't come in and sit down as they were closing. We could drink outside if we wanted. It was raining.Never again.

We walked all the way from Littlehampton town and thought we would have some chips only to be told that they had run out and didn't know how long it would be till they had some more by an unapologetic member of staff. Now that is seriously bad management on a sunny Sunday lunchtime. (This was last weekend). The whole place looked in need of a good clean and tidy, such a shame because they charge the earth.

After a great school trip doing sampling on the beach we all went to the cafe. Great location and lots of seating for our students in and outside.Only slight disappointment was they ran out of halloumi. Having said that the chips onion rings and salt and chilli squid were great. We all left happy

Don't know if this place has changed hands we had been a couple of times before and really enjoyed it but it was a couple of years ago. We took some friends visiting from Australia, got the ferry which is fun, it was just gone 2 this saturday when we got there and they had run out of fish!! the chips were frozen, the sausages we gave to the seagulls, the haloumi tasteless and over cooked, the squid was ok, the scampi tasteless, over cooked and frozen. apparently it had been very busy, the staff were nice, it is a great spot but whoever runs it needs to buck their ideas up, we ended up having great fish and chips after a walk and the return ferry trip at Osca's and buying some fresh fish opposite, no idea why the West Beach people did not think about getting some more fresh fish in it would have taken them 30 mins.

This place won an award for its architecture, not its food. It's noisy and over priced, and not friendly. The only thing going for it is its location.

We popped in for just a snack lunch today and found a charming couple who could not have been more helpful in this very different modern quirky seaside cafe. They did not object when we shared a portion of Scampy & chips which were served in a cardboard box with wooden cutlery which really made it feel like you were eating on the beach! Very comfortable big tables inside or the option to eat at outside tables instead. But most importantly our food was delicious! It could not have been better. A real find this place & good luck to the owners, we will return.

We used to love driving down to the beach here. Walk the dogs and then back to the cafe for a box of whitebait or squid rings. Simple menu but cooked well and good value. Just what you want. However I dont know if its changed hands but on Sunday I felt seriously ripped off at paying 15.50 for a box of 6 whitebait, 6 scampy and 6 squid rings (thats a 2 person portion) and 7.50 for 6 (YES SIX) rings of squid on a bit of salad. With two teas and two hot chocolates it was £30.50. Remeber this is cafe with basic seating and food in cardboard boxes. We had to eat somewhere else on the way home. It's so disappointing but we simply will not be going back there.

On a very cold and blustery day we took our dogs for a long walk along the beach and were really pleased to stumble across this wonderful cafe. We arrived as a party of 8 just as they opened and ordered fish and chips for all. We were told they were just waiting for the fat to heat up, so there would be a 15 minute wait. Well the wait was well and truly worth it. We all thought they were the best fish and chips that we'd had in a very long time. The tea was good as well and the service excellent. We'll certainly be back.

Visited with family over Christmas and had a lovely casual meal. We had a mixture for the table - fish and chips, fishcakes, crab cakes, whitebait and squid. Everything was lovely but the salt and pepper squid with garlic Mayo was absolutely delicious!Service was fantastic. The girls really took care of us and the other party booked in.

We just wanted a quick lunch, but it took 40 minutes from ordering to get two sausage baps. They were nice enough, but expensive at £4 each. They seemed to only be able to cook one meal at a time and there was a huge backlog. Wouldn't order food there again.

Disinterested staff - very poor service- unhygienic Visited to have tea and cake - apart from being very expensive there were wasps flying about on the cake section- they were landing on the cakes - when I informed the staff about the wasps - one assistant said to me ‘that’s ok they are not poisonous’ she was not bothered at all - I have to say this put me off and we did not have any refreshments. On the way out I informed customer services - she apologised but didn’t do anything. However we went to high down garden centre cafe where the service cake and tea were excellent
