We visit the Wessex Flyer with our family regularly and I would like to say a huge thank you to Izzy who is always helpful and makes it a lovely experience every time. We will be sorry to see Izzy go after many years. We wish her the best of luck in the future.

Went here for my daughter's birthday. The woman on meet&greet (Faye) was extremely rude and abrupt with us to the point of even huffing and puffing when we said we wanted to pay by cash. Pretty much every cooked item continued to run out (we arrived at 8:45) whilst we were there and the coffee machine continued to stop working. Will definitely not be returning here for breakfast in the near future.

Grace and the team excelled during a very busy breakfast. Very busy but the fresh food keep coming and tables cleared really fast once tables were vacated. Great service and food. Thank you, see you next time. Sue & Keith

Came here Sunday 13th April with my Dad and Stepmum and my Grandma. I ordered a mixed grill which was absolutely excellent! I also had a pint of Inches Cider which was also excellent (shame The Wessex don't sell Thatchers though). Will definitely come back again. Ben

I only left 1star so I could write this review otherwise there would be none! Wish I had not walked in this place, ordered the eco fish and chips for my partner and I and the food was absolutely disgusting! What a let down it was, the fish was overcooked to an extent that we were pretty sure it was warmed up from the day before, same with the mushy peas. They were totally dried up! The whole meal was inedible, we were staying in the hotel next door so were hoping it would have been a nice place for meals but won’t dream of a return to there. Ended up travelling up the road to the local Tesco supermarket for our breakfast and dinners, what a difference all freshly cooked.

Great family meal. Food was delicious, service was great. Will dine again soon

Food was actually better than average. We ordered 2 calamari's, a beef and ale pie, a burger and spinach lasagne. Their calamari really surprised me as it remaind crispy and flavourful throughout and their pie has a nice flaky consistency. The staff, (more specifically the woman at the bar, everyone else was happy), are very miserable and it is contagious. It really effects the whole atmosphere.

Very clean and well presented place to eat. The garden seating area is pleasant when the sun is out. I ordered a mixed grill but unfortunately the steak came well done rather than medium rare as I'd requested. Izzy handled my complaint very professionally and was apologetic about the mix up. She took the steak away with no questions asked and within 5 minutes was back with a succulent sirloin steak done just as I'd asked for. Mistakes can easily happen in such a fast paced environment but when the staff are so good at correcting problems it can be the difference between a happy customer and a disgruntled one. Izzy is an absolute credit to this establishment.

Quite modern, not everyone's cuppa.

First time we have had breakfast at this Brewers Fayre and we must say it did not disappoint. Food was excellent and the staff member Fay, who was on her own, we felt was extremely efficient and managed to get everything sorted, so everyone was happy.

Service we very lack luster, felt like the server's where annoyed we wanted to eat here. Looked like no one wanted to be there. Very uninviting atmosphere. We even felt awkward sitting at our table. Food is very basic. Probably would get better food and service at maccas over the parking lot.

Clean, staff pleasant and food very nice. Could only give 4 stars as it's the first pub I've ever been in where I had to prepare my own coffee on a machine. Not really what I want to go to a pub for really. Sounds trivial but I thought it was a bit strange.

Only place my family and I go for breakfast. Unlimited full Englush breakfast and kids eat free. Pretty and comfortable seating area. Some of the larger tables have little alcove areas so quiet and a little more private. One of the best managed, run and maintained pubs I have ever visited. The staff are amazing and work so very hard. Faye is brilliant, great sense of humour and nothing is too much trouble. 5 star rating for these guys.

Really nice place to eat and they were great with kids.

We came for breakfast and were greeted by Faye and her team. The team were really friendly and welcoming. The food was buffet style, all hot and fresh. We really enjoyed it, would definitely return.

Faye, the front of house staff member, has been brilliant in looking after me and my colleagues for the past four mornings. Very accommodating and friendly. Usually they just tick the registration list and tell us to go and sit down but Faye makes the effort to engage with us and is very professional and warm. A real asset to the team! Thank you Faye!

Amazing food just a tiny bit over good with the steak I had a lovely mixed grilled and a Sunday ice cream

I was served by smooth and he was kind, helpful and generous. And the food came out quickly and tasted very nice.

I love coming to the Wessex the staff are very friendly and helpful but very disappointed I couldn’t set up a tab for me and my friends on a night out! You would if made more money from us if we didn’t have to pay for everything separately! Not sure why this is but the food was good a little short on the chips on some of the meals but the cheesecake was amazing x

A group of 7 went to have breakfast this morning 3/2/2025 and we're very disappointed. Food was cold asked for it to be warmed up this was done but not without rude comments chef came to check the food and said it was fine BUT the probe he used was only wiped by him using his fingers we had someone who is a vegetarian so this was not acceptable.... unfortunately just after we all sat to enjoy our food there was a power cut not the fault of the venue. When this happened not one member of staff came to speak to any of the customers to explain what had happened. Another member of our group spoke to other customers who weren't happy. After a while someone did come and speak to us but was not very clear with her explanation. We are a group that try to experience food venues as a little get together and I am sorry to say we will not be returning the The Wessex Flyer for food again.

Thank you, Izzy! Standard fayre but with a heart of gold. What can I say but it is busy, the food is standard for brewers fayre. Tables and wait at the peak times were a little bit more than expected... over the three days I was staying, the manager Izzy looked after me very well. She engaged in conversation and looked after me when I would have been sitting next to a noisy group (just needing some piece). This young lady, if not the manager, should be. She gave the place a heart and, in fact, gave it character and kindness. Thank you.

Food took ages had a autistic child who did not understand why it took so long. People and children with disabilities should be put to the front of the queue and people without disabilities should understand this !

Everyone that I speak to say the service from miss fay is always good thanks you my family love it there .

Went for family meal for boxing day. Absolutely dreadful. Staff were miserable. Service was slow and drinks where not even right. Beer tastes like the pipes needed cleaning.. asked one of the staff a question. Replied . I don't know do I. ... To me that terrible customer service. Had the table booked for 3pm. 20 people were eating . So you can imagine just how much was spent. There tried to rush us out at 5pm was it worth it definitely no. Never ever will I go back totally ruined our day. I suggest if you don't want to work boxing day . Don't work in the industry

I visited with family on a Saturday night the place was really busy but we still received excellent food and service. The man who was our host was amazing /extremely professional/friendly and polite. The whole experience was enjoyable and would definitely recommend this place to everyone. Everyone enjoyed their food and nothing was wasted. Thank you Wessex flyer for a great evening 😊

Always excellent service from all of the staff, would especially like to thank Issac for his hospitality and friendliness. We are frequent visitors and have always had very goid food and exceptional service.

We went to the Wessex for our Christmas festive meal. We had to wait a long time for the meal but it was worth the wait. There was 9 of us there and we knew the wait time was long. The staff at the Wessex were running around like headless chickens, to ensure all those present got their Christmas meals. I give the staff 10 out of 10, the manager on duty was here there and everywhere, providing people with their meals. The food was really lovely cooked to perfection, top marks for the cooks. The table was set out nice, with Christmas Fayre to make the night complete. We will definitely book again next year. We'll done to you all, hope you have a lovely Christmas.

Could do with putting heating on as,was very cold and keep beer up together as doom bar was very cloudy and had take back then thay had no more so not very good

Stayed here with a large school party and The staff could not have been more helpful. During adverse weather, we were provided with a large breakout space where the students could relax and play card games without disturbing the other customers. Food was provided in abundance for breakfast and nothing was too much trouble for the staff to assist with. Can definitely recommend.

Usually a great place to eat but the last few times we've been unable to get a table.

Me my partner and family come to this pub very regularly they are a very good hardworking team, great food and well mannered staff and also keen to help and assist 😀 also haves a great manager called Isaac!

Big fan of a fry up and the food was hot and juicy, bacon wasn't super fatty like places usually are and the eggs were lovely

We decided to try the restaurant connected to the Premier Inn, but it turned out to be quite a letdown. The place wasn’t clean, with worn and dirty walls, decor, and furniture. The staff seemed overwhelmed and didn’t pay much attention to the customers. It took two hours just to get a main course and dessert each. It might have been even longer if I hadn’t gone up to the bar to ask them to start on the desserts. Overall, a disappointing experience and not the best memory. This restaurant might have been good when it first opened, but it’s lost its charm.

Another successful visit this morning 🥰 it was slightly busier today, probably due to it being half term, but still the service was impeccable (THANK YOU FAYE!!!) and the food was delish! This place never fails to disappoint. Our regular spot for breakfast or lunch 🥰🧡

Food basic and limited menu for vegetarians and if you have coeliac disease. Wish I never went to the bathroom before I ate as they were filthy and blocked. Although not directly their fault they need to regularly check them.

A place to stop by when walking the dog through the park. Nice and friendly staff. Dog friendly, when having a drink outside. Our dog loves it!

Food always very good, pricing competitive and staff including management very attentive and always keen to ensure everything is as good as it can be.

We regularly visit the Wessex Flyer in Hengrove, Bristol. Today’s visit was no exception. The food and drinks were excellent. The service is always excellent with caring and pleasant staff. Faye, (the duty manager) and her team are all working together. A special shout-out to Casey who served us today, a lovely young lady. Faye has a lovely attitude and a hands-on work ethic with her team. Highly recommend.

Had the all you can eat buffet, only an hour in and they have sold out of some of the food, the food that was there had been under the lights too long and dried out, they had forgotten to put out the dips and sauces to accompany the meal.

After booking a table for 11+ were swiftly moved on when we were still drinking even though the pub was quiet 🙄

This spot is perfect for bargain breakfast. The food is always spot on, kids eat free and it’s buffet?! What more can you ask for! Faye is absolutely brilliant and if she isn’t already, she deserves to run the place! She is definitely the most friendly, bubbly and helpful!! We are regulars now as we love it here so much, won’t go anywhere else for breakfast!

Booked here as we stayed in the Premier inn next door, food was ok but the place is completely understaffed and needs to get more workers in. Took a hour or maybe just over for the food to come, if we didn't pay in advance we would have gone to KFC, I wasn't happy I have to say.

The Wessex Flyer in Bristol—a pub that makes one ponder the deeper meaning of existence. Or, more accurately, the absence of it. This is a tough one to review, not because it’s a complex enigma wrapped in a pub-shaped riddle, but because it’s so depressingly average that it makes me question why I ever started going to pubs in the first place. But let’s give credit where credit’s due. The staff were nice enough, doing their best in a place that seems hell-bent on draining the joy from every pint and every plate.. In short, The Wessex Flyer is a pub that you’ll want to avoid. Avoid it, unless you’re into that sort of thing.

A nice place to visit and dine in every day, the food is always cooked the way you like it and nice cold/ hot drinks.

Food was terrible ! Took close to half an hour to come and the club sandwich was stone cold. My wife ordered fish but was then told there were out of fish. She chose a jacket potato and chilli but the potato was hard. Then the two people sat behind us ordered fish and actually got it !

Had a wonderful breakfast this morning! Was perfect from start to finish. Went in alone with my daughter without booking and was welcomed in by Isaac who was lovely, funny and helpful. Then was served by Rihanna who fussed over my 2 year old and made her so happy! Breakfast was beautiful and fresh! Can’t wait to come back!

The absolute worst restaurant/pub l have ever been , rude staff who , just slam drinks down and walk off , filthy tables , rubbish in the beer garden ,totally unacceptable.

To packed long queue at the buffett, long weight for empty items to be refilled, no cups coffee machine no hot water do cold coffee all in all not a pleasant experience

Received great service but like with all places by Whitbread, the free WiFi is appalling and its only deliberately slow to be greedy and encourage you to upgrade.
