We have been trying out the places by us to find the best fry up and came here. I booked a table as I knew it was going to be busy, drinks and food order taken quickly and no waiting to get seated. What I didn’t expect was it to take over 20 minutes for us to get the drinks order after watching the two other couples seated considerably after us get theirs first and for me to have to prompt a waitress. When they arrived it was only half the order of drinks and told us the coffee will be with us shortly. Ironically enough when the coffee turned up another five minutes later the waitress stated “didn’t have to wait too long then”. Which made us speechless. During the wait we were sat near the terrace doors which a few of the staff kept leaving open. Granted - if you’re taking food out it’s understandable. However a couple of them were empty handed and being lazy, the older waiter did make an effort to close it. The food turned arrived about 30 minutes after ordering and was really nice albeit not that warm and the whole delay on the drinks but a damper on it. To follow on from the door saga - whilst trying to eat the breakfast a specific waitress kept leaving the door open letting gusts of cold wind in making the food colder. After I got up for the third time to close it and my boyfriend told the girl to stop leaving it open it only stopped once I told the older waiter what kept happening. Safe to say for the price of the food, I would expect better service and the staff to have more common sense - so we won’t be returning!

This is a great place for good food to eat in and to buy in the farm shop. They cater well for children and there is a lovely play area outside to keep the kids amused. It's not too far off the M4 so is a good alternative to the motorway services.

Overall, my experience today was AWFUL, having been there numerous times years ago! The service is now appalling, we were sat for 40 minutes before our order was taken and that was after I told TWO waitresses we were ready to order. Most were too busy to acknowledge us, and even when they did they were stand-offish and rude. The food came after us being there for over an hour, it was very cold and very small portioned for the prices they’re charging. So very disappointing. I won’t be returning as I’m so upset it’s gone so down hill! A real shame as the views and wildflowers are very pretty in the sun.

This used to be a lovely place to meet, sadly no more . The vegetarian options are currently limited and the service was poor. It took 45 mins for the food and it was then cold. The complaint was handled poorly and defensively. Being busy is not an excuse it just means operationally it's not working if you have this experience as a customer. We did get our money back but it left a bitter taste and we definitely felt they'd be cursing us and blaming us rather than really looking at what went wrong and amend for the future.

Great service from manager down. Meals were good quality and price reasonable but they blew us away by taking note of a casual comment made on booking that we were coming to celebrate mum’s 93rd birthday. It made a simple meal special. Thank you.

Came for a Mother’s Day breakfast. Greeted by a rude host who informed us she was not happy as we had a pram with our 4 months old twins in and that we should have booked a seat for them at the table (they were not eating and cannot sit safely in a highchair). She was very abrupt and miserable, only to be escalated when my sister in law turned up with her 3 week old in a pram, again to be told we should have booked her a seat at the table. No where else I have ever been too would expect us to book a seat for a 3 week old and two 4 months olds who will not be eating and cannot safely sit in a highchair. We asked to speak to the manager about the policy and the attitude of the server. Manager turned up to the table, didn’t even introduce who she was just peered over us, when I asked her if I could help she told us who she was, we explained our situation, the fact it is not stipulated on the website we have to tell them we are brining a pram as they are not pram friendly and how it was managed by her staff, was met with the same poor attitude from the manager who seemed like she couldn’t careless. Food was okay, but wouldn’t return due to their attitude towards families. Thanks for ruining Mother’s Day breakfast!

The shop is great. Our first visit so was pleased to see the cafe/restaurant there and decided to grab some lunch. We both chose the fish finger sandwich, which was fish goujons with a tartar mayo in granary bread (£11 each). Unfortunately the sandwiches didn’t taste great and a overly strong fish smell, which normally comes when it’s been over cooked. Maybe it was the oil they were cooked in but wasn’t the nicest. We politely mentioned this to the lad who came to clear the plates away and he apologised and then went into the kitchen, where he spoke to the chef/cook. Another member of staff then came over and asked what the issue was so we again explained only then to be told that it’s not the first time people have mentioned the same and it’s because it’s haddock and that smells stronger than other fish! She said she’d take the cost of the two coffees off the bill but not the food, which was the issue. Very disappointed they didn’t offer to take even half the cost of the food off as a way of compensating us or, at least acknowledge the food wasn’t as it should be. Such a shame they weren’t more accommodating. We would definitely go back and use the shop but certainly won’t go back there to eat.

Couldn't hear myself think!! A hundred people in a hard-surfaced open plan barn environment plus open plan servery makes an utter racket. Who designs these dreadful places?!! Stressful. Waitress service is great if it works. This doesn't. Waited about 25 mins for a simple black coffee. As time was rolling on, needed lunch... another 25 mins wait. Veggie breakfast arrived without eggs but lots of bread. Waitress brought egg (one) quickly but the food was tepid. Staff were nice and working hard but the whole thing needs looking at.

Lovely place, staff were really nice, playhouse great for the kids. Paid £17 for a salt beef sandwich and fries. Bit disappointed. For that money, I expected more than a dry, toasted bap with a single slice of beef in it, and a small portion of chips. Not expecting the best sandwich I've ever had, but at least as nice as one I could grab out the fridge from the M&S garage for £3.50. Felt a bit short changed, as did others in our party.

The lunch food was delicious but the service was extremely disappointing. We waited 40 mins for drinks to arrive. Food did arrive promptly (once we were 'allowed' to order it!!) but clearing plates, asking for the bill and a dessert etc took another hour. We were there for 3 hours in the end for one course + a slice of cake for my toddler. Clearly more staff are needed. They are not dog friendly in the winter which is a bit of a shame but understandable. On the plus side, the play area in the garden is lovely for children.

Nice lunch, but have to leave a one star review because we were overcharged and despite trying to contact on several occasions, emails ignored, nobody responded. What a shame. Here’s some advice: don’t overcharge your customers; it’s illegal, and don’t ignore your customers; it’s plain rude.

I find it such a shame that despite all the improvements made to the farm shop and cafe, the service is just not good enough. When you book, they are very clear you only have the table for a limited period of times (I think it’s an hour and 45 mins) and you have to agree to this when booking. Yet every time we visit, although we are seated quickly, it is nearly impossible to get anyone to take our order. Today it was not overly busy, around 60% full and lots of empty tables but we waited over 40 minutes to have some come to take our drinks order, then when we said we were ready to order food as we had been waiting a while, we were told by the waiter that were ‘not allowed’ to order food and drinks at the same time. We watched at least 4 groups that come in after get served first, including a very large group of 20 people. When they eventually came to take our food order some time later, we were advised food would be delayed due to the large table order, yes the one that was seated after us! We eventually ate around an hour and 20 minutes after being seated which with a little one with us was really not ideal. The food was mostly ok but is very expensive for what it is although I understand it’s local produce. We have tried to support the farm shop as it’s local to us but sadly the service just doesn’t seem to improve. On our last visit some months ago, again the cafe was not at capacity, we waited well over an hour for our food and shortly after it being served, we were reminded that we only had a short time left on our table. My response to this was that I wouldn’t be rushing and perhaps they should try and get the food delivered in a reasonable time! We also found out today they have added a 1% service charge to all bills, details of this are hidden in the very small print of the menu. It’s not the cheapest for us all to go out for brunch/lunch these days and to be honest, after 3 visits this year all with very poor service, I think it’s just time to go elsewhere where we hopefully feel our custom is valued and not that we are an inconvenience.

If you want hot food, don’t even attempt to arrive anywhere close to 3pm as as soon as it hits 2.58 they apparently ‘turn everything off’ and it’s only coffee and cake. Now this is the good part, the reason being 1. Because of Sunday trading hours on a Saturday… make it make sense. 2. Because everything is turned off. 3. It’s 3:00pm on the dot. Which one is it Wellington Farm Shop? If you wanted the custom you would have sat us down as we were waiting by 2.58pm, instead you let us walk out the door. Shame on you for you abysmal ‘hospitality’. I didn’t want to £20 for a full English anyhow.

This relates to the Shop, not the Cafe. The Cafe was pleasant, if generally overpriced, and now has a 1% service charge added to all bills, notification of which is hidden in the very small print of the menu. Date of visit: 17th December. We have visited the Shop before. It has an impressive and varied selection of items for sale but unfortunately nothing has changed - at least HALF the goods on the shelves are not priced, which is just as it has been on previous occasions. Unable to find anyone who appeared to be a manager, I asked a young girl if in fact she realised this was the case; 'Yes' she said, grinning nervously, then returned to filling the shelves with more unpriced items. Now, this wouldn't be so bad, were it not for the fact that a lot of the goods sold are massively overpriced in the first place. If you're the sort of person who buys a tin of biscuits for cheese thinking that they couldn't, they just couldn't possibly be more than £10.00 and is then asked to pay more than £17.00 when you get them to the till, then this won't matter to you. My wife bought 2 pork hocks from the butcher. The butcher told her they were pork hocks. When we got them home she found they were in fact bacon hocks. Without me noticing, she also bought me packet of fudge brownies for Christmas. When I opened them on Christmas Day, I found the BB date was 27th December! I am well aware of the distinction between Best Before and Use By dates. I am not suggesting these would have become toxic at 0001 on 28th December, and it will doubtless be argued that she could have checked, but the Shop appears to have a clearance area for items with a limited BB date, so they are obviously aware of the perceived impression of it. Selling confectionery in December that's likely to be a Christmas gift, with a BB date of 2 days after Christmas, is a bit shabby. All in all, this is yet another poor review of a different aspect of a business that used to be pretty good but now seems to be rather overreaching itself.

Amongst the items we purchased at the Farm Shop was a single large leek. Initially the assistant handling our purchase entered the leek as celery in the till system. We managed to convince the assistant that the vegetable in question was in fact a leek, not celery. With the vegetable designation being corrected we thought all was well. However the charge registered on the till for our single leek was £4.20. Being somewhat staggered by this price we explained that the £4.20 was the price per kilogram according to the till display. We were not successful this time in trying to get the assistant to adopt the correct strategy, and to actually weigh the leek to calculate the price. Consequently a rather forlorn looking (large) leek was left at the till.

. We were staying in a hotel locally and decided to visit for lunch. My wife and I both had a Sandwich and Coffee. For what you get the sandwiches are way way over priced. I had a Turkey Sandwich for £14. It was literally a few pieces of dry Turkey and some Paxo stuffing spread on the bread. It said it came with Gravy but didn’t. I ended up getting a sachet of mayo to add to it as it was so dry. You get a few crisps and some dressed leaf. Should be half that price at around £7. That was disappointing! Also ordered a portion of chips, although Delicous they cost £4 but the bowl was no bigger than a very small tea cup. Again over priced. The coffees were nice though and the staff were very friendly to be fair. It’s a real shame that well behaved dogs are not welcomed inside. I appreaciate not everyone likes dogs but maybe just a small area of say 3/4 tables in the corner (for the winter period) would encourage more dog owners to pop in. Sadly we had to sit outside for our lunch in the cold and rain and we both definately would have considered another coffee and probably a cake too but it was just too cold. Maybe consider some patio heaters on the wall? Sadly unless it became dog friendly I wouldn’t be able to return!

I have never had such a bad experience or given a score this low to a restaurant or café before. I would give zero stars if that was an option. Came here with a friend a couple of days ago for the first time, and ordered the Mushroom and Spinach Gratin for lunch. Mine came out cold around the edges and the center was almost frozen, clearly they had forgotten to cook it. Waited around 10 minutes before I was able to catch a waiter's attention. They took my plate and apologised and said a new one would be made for me. 10 minutes later (and at that point, my friend had finished her lunch already!) the new Gratin is brought over to me but it was still cold and it was definitely not new. It was the same one I had before as it still had a spoonful missing from when I tasted it the first time, they didn't even try to make an effort to spread the ingredients to make it look like it was new. Perhaps they placed it in the microwave for a minute or so, still not cooked, still not hot. Once again I get a staff member's attention, a different person who wasn't quick to apologise and continued to look at me with utter confusion. Eventually he took my plate away and I asked for the Chicken Cesar Salad instead as they clearly had a hard time cooking the Gratin properly. 10 minutes later, the driest salad on the planet arrived in front of me: chicken, anchovies, lettuce, lots (and I mean lots) of croutons with some grated parmesan cheese - no sauce - very, very dry! I am not usually someone to make a fuss, but by providing a bad experience it was not only about bad food, but they completely ruined a rare opportunity I had to have lunch with a friend who I hadn't seen in a long time. At one point a lady came over to our table to check if "all is ok" I asked her for a takeaway box so I can put my salad in it and eat it with sauce when I got home! She never offered a genuine apology. We ended our time at the café with tea and cake (£5 per slice of cake is daylight robbery!) but as we didn't get a chance to eat lunch together, we wanted to try and end things on a good note. Halfway through our tea and cake, a waitress comes over to our table with a card machine with these exact words: "We need you to pay now as we require the table back for the next booking". Unbelievable. I will never step foot in this awful place again. Speak to your staff, train your chefs and learn some manners.

Dear Wellington Farm Team, I wanted to provide some feedback regarding my recent visit to your café. While I appreciate the effort in accommodating our party, I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the seating arrangement. Despite making a reservation in advance for a group of four, we were allocated a table meant for two. This arrangement fell short of our expectations and affected our overall experience negatively. I understand the need to optimize space to cater to more guests, and I believe that adding more tables is a viable solution. However, I suggest a more thoughtful approach to ensure that customers are not uncomfortably crowded at smaller tables. I value the experience your café provides, and I believe addressing this concern would contribute to an even more enjoyable atmosphere for all patrons. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to seeing positive changes in the future.

Nice decor , family friendly and busy place. Most places in central Reading are empty on Wednesday around 11am but here the place was buzzing. The quality of food is really high and prices are fair for what you get. The serving team was on their feet non stop but they were all smiling and happy to help. Went back outside with my one working hand as the other in a sling to get my purse and pay . Food arrived 10 mins later . Shortly after a party of cyclists came outside followed by a very polite waitress who took their order . 10 mins later their food arrived . Quest for efficiency trumps customer experience. Impersonal. Don’t greet on arrival don’t thank on departure. Secure table grab menus go inside, order, Pay, add service. (?) They bring your food but no cutlery, condiments etc…self service…no knives. I’d focus more on CX, cutlery on table. Take orders on iPads..flowers, jugs of iced tap water. Because at this price point other friendlier options locally. Pears in the walnut and goat cheese salad well past their best. Nearly sent back. Chicken Caesar virtually no chicken, at £14 not up to scratch. Cloudy lemonade in trendy glass beaker watery, £7 for two verging on exorbitant. Location good, shop always good, vegetables cheese and meat, but the industrialisation of the cafe has gone too far, sorry.

We ordered the Wellington Country Board thinking lovely fresh farm food, however how wrong could we be, being left very disappointed with the selection of items presented on a thin totally impractical wooden board, which was a challenge in keeping the food on the board without falling onto the table. The menu stated that it would be served with Sourdough, however all we got was one half of a brioche roll cut in half, the ham was Wafer thin and looking worst for wear, the cheddar cheese was rock hard. On the board was also a warmed up sausage roll cut in two, with the pastry so hard that we ended up cutting it off to enable us to eat the meat. In fact the pickled onion and pickle were the nicest part of the board. All-in-all we were looking forward to lovely farm fresh food only to be served up the ingredients from the local supermarket, thus an opportunity to showcase farm fresh foods was sadly missed. What once was a wonderful place to stop and have a fantastic breakfast the cafe seems to have lost its soul and quality since its expansion. We were left very disappointed and as such would think twice about returning.

Ate here with family for breakfast, waitress was ace, and friendly this particular time but we still had to ask for cutlery, plates to be cleared and finally the bill. £4.70 for a very un exciting and small chocolate milk shake is a little steep, I probably would have ordered 2 if a little cheaper. Came on a Saturday morning as a three for breakfast after reading good reviews. Waitress took us to our table where there was one seat. We were asked to help her move chairs from another table. Food all over the floor and didn’t get cleaned in the two hours we were there. 30 minutes passed and order hadn’t been taken for drinks nor food. I then asked a waiter, who 10 minutes later waked past us. I asked him again to take our order. He had no clue about the menu, and repeatedly asked us to repeat what we’d ordered. As we approached an hour after being seated and still didn’t have our drinks, I complained to another waiter, who to be fair was attentive and apologised, giving us one of the drinks for free. A couple alongside us were seated and had drinks, food and left by the time we got our drinks. Food then arrived just over an hour after arriving, and it was very good. Particularly the black pudding on the breakfast. Left before two hours, table was crowded with our plates still and had to ask for the receipt. Obviously cannot handle the demand for a Saturday morning, and waiting staff seemed to have little recognition of the customers. Partner described it as the “worst service ever received”

My real complaint is the Cafe itself, felt like a canteen but the worst thing was the smell of raw meat emanating from the meat counter which is directly next to the seating area. We moved twice but then sat outside as the smell was awful. I did mention it at the time but I can only assume the staff are used to it and simply said we could move.
