Webbe's Rock-a-Nore in Hastings

Being Italian and having lived here in the UK for over 30 years, I tend to stay away from restaurants that serve Italian food as the majority get it so wrong, and this restaurant is the perfect example of how NOT to serve an Italian dish . Considering that they even advertise cooking classes lol, I’m really shocked that they serve a fish pasta dish drowned in Parmesan cheese. Gino Di Campo would go mental if he had eaten the dish I ordered last night , seafood linguine. At best let the customers decide if they want cheese on this dish but I can assure you that NOWHERE IN ITALY serves a pasta dish with fish with Parmesan cheese. The first bite I took of the prawn was quite hard which then worried me as I don’t really fancy getting food poisoning on my birthday . Hopefully it just wasn’t cooked enough , fingers crossed. My honest impression is that I reckon this restaurant was years ago the place to eat but I think nowadays it’s slipped down a little , shame as from the outside it looks impressive but once you go in it’s actually pretty average, not many seats and not many customers for a Friday night , the paella restaurant down the road was jammed packed with customers. And if you advertise as a fish restaurant then why serve steaks and chicken dishes??? There’s a very good steak house just round the corner so if I wanted one I would go there instead, I would stick to being just a fish restaurant that serves fish and nothing else , let’s face it , due to your location that is you unique selling point. There’s a well known restaurant in Hove that just like you, on the seafront, serves just fish and nothing else and is extremely popular.Service could have been better , overhaul I think the place needs updating , not only food wise . I didn’t fancy eating fish and chips on my birthday hence why I opted for something different , I would have gone for the Sole dish but unfortunately it wasn’t available. Shame as staff were actually nice and friendly . Ciao for now

We had a good lunch today. The fish was nicely cooked. The creme brulee was excellent. The staff were very attentive. Highly recommended.

My two friends and I, who have known each other over seventy four years, meet up from time to time for lunch. My friends travel some distance and we always enjoy coming to Webbe's. We are greeted cheerfully and given plenty of time to order. The staff, and there are plenty of them, are always polite and helpful. We dine well, the bread is flavorsome and sets us up well with the olives. The goats cheese is tasty. The main is always generous in size and tastes so good. The fish is fresh and delicious. We enjoy a good wine to accompany this. If we have enough room left we indulge in a satisfying desert and coffee. The friendly staff keep an eye on us and serve us well. Thank you Webbe's, you never disappoint.

The wonderful Webbes’ staff and chefs hosted a wedding lunch for a family member recently . The excellent food ( all things fish as well as steaks and veggies);the help in pre- planing ;the friendly efficient service on the day; and their kind attention to detail , really helped make this a special occasion . We highly recommend this restaurant to all . Thank you all at Webbes ( and especially the manager).

Sat down in outside seating area. Got completely forgotten about by the waitress, so decided to leave. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy either.

Excellent restaurant. We had a table outside because inside was full but on a warm ish and sunny day that wasn’t a problem. Certainly the service didn’t suffer. It was very good. The food was fresh and well cooked with a good choice on the menu. The Children’s menu was also very good with proper fish fingers. A nice wine list as well. We chose well.

We travelled by train from Chichester just to have lunch with you as we've been before and have always had an excellent meal. Again a superb lunch and well worth the journey.

Three of us had lunch, I had sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, mushrooms and spinach and a side of battered courgette. The steak was the best I have ever eaten and the vegetables complimented it perfectly especially the courgettes. The other diners had the bream with risotto which they thoroughly enjoyed. Delightful desserts of creme brulee and tropical fruit fritters all with ice cream rounded off a perfect meal. We can't wait to go back! The service was good and the atmosphere welcoming.

My husband Robin and I had a half day fish prep with lunch included. I cannot recommend this highly enough, we had a fantastic time and Paul Webb is amazing . Thankyou so much and to your wonderful team. Celia Hayward.

Visited in July 2023. We came to Hastings for a long weekend and we were craving some of the famous seafood that’s on offer in the town. Webbe’s offer a great selection of dishes in a warm, welcoming environment. We didn’t have a booking but they kindly made space for us. The service was friendly and patient. We sat right the kitchen, so we could see the action - which was exciting. We had a selection of Tasters, which was value for money, plus additional items. Everything was delicious, fresh and hot. It is worth booking during the high season. Highly recommended right bang in the middle of a bustling spot on the sea front.

Had our Valentines lunch here could not have been better. Staff were great food absolutely wonderful cannot wait to return .

First and foremost, the service in this place is impeccable, made me and my partner feel like the most important people in the world. And the food matched the service, 10 out of 10 amazing, refined and delicious whilst still being brilliantly Brittish. We sat in there allafternoon enjoying the amazing food/service/vibe watching the cold n windy seascape and beach front, a very memorable meal. Highly recommend

Sooo fresh! Had the tempura prawns and courgette starter which was delicious (it was supposed to have aubergine as well but there was none), my partner had the potted duck which he enjoyed. For mains I had the grilled scallops which were cooked perfectly and my partner had the pheasant which he loved! Service was great! Was a little chilly when we went but apart from that it was lovely!

Can honestly say this is the best meal my husband and I have ever had. The staff were friendly and professional with a good balance of humour. The restaurant itself was comfortable and tastefully decorated. The food was outstanding. Best whelks I have ever eaten and the Seabass with risto tasted amazing! A fantastic choice of seafood and fish dishes but also some great alternatives for those not so keen on fish. We will definitely be back!

We only booked it this morning and was so lucky to get a table as was fully booked and whilst sat there , they must of turned away 20 people at least walk ins .. Our meal was amazing - one of the best seafood restaurant I’ve ever eaten in .. I had the scallops and my husband had the pork belly and both was soo tasty ,. Staff were so friendly , when they asked if we was celebrating anything and I said my husbands birthday - the sweet man that I’m guessing runs / or owns Webbe’s made my husband a birthday card , and also put happy birthday on he’s desert… if we ever return to Hastings we would definitely return here .. we are both a bit snobby when it comes to food and restaurants and this place is worth a visit :)

Beautiful food and very well presented but so rushed! Food arrived almost 10 minutes after ordering. Was exceptionally hot. As soon as plates cleared we were offered dessert. So whilst the food is of good quality the service was disappointing and it was not a particularly relaxing atmosphere.

Such a shame. Ended up vomiting 3 hours after my meal. Amazing staff but unfortunately I threw up my meal and was on the toilet soon after I got home.

Food was delicious and very well presented. Highly recommend if you enjoy seafood. The service was friendly, but sporadic, and we didn't feel that we were well attended to throughout the meal.

This is a hard review to make. The food was really nice and two of the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable regarding the menu. Unfortunately the head waiter was rude and left a bad taste in our mouth,which really ruined what should have been a night of celebration.

Cracking restaurant. Knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. Wine list is good. Food was great, though two of our party thought their fish stew should have had more fish flavour. Taster dishes are a good idea if you're not sure what main course to have.

Great restaurant, really excellent cooking, great staff, friendly and quietly attentive, lively, but discreet atmosphere, one of our favourites, Mr Webbe is an asset to the Hastings area...

Outstanding on all fronts. All the staff are welcoming and friendly. They engaged with our daughter making her feel as valued as we did. The food is delicious and the prices very reasonable for such lovely food. We had several of the tasting dishes and a starter which were all amazing. We stayed for pudding, something by which in most restaurants seems to be an afterthought and often not of a standard to match the other food, but weren’t disappointed. My only comment for improvement at all would be to make it possible to tip the fabulous staff when paying your bill via card. Most people rarely carry cash now days and this meant we weren’t able to reward the attentive, friendly and professional staff for their wonderful service.

Booked a table for four here on the 30th December 2023 to celebrate my son's return from the navy, we have visited here around 15 times in the last year and normally it's great however the food has taken a complete nosedive. I ordered the sirloin steak which was absolutely appalling with only around 30% of it actually being edible, the rest was fat and gristle. Upon complaining about this and showing the sheer amount I'd left on the plate I was told they'd take the price of a couple of drinks off the cost. Fine I thought until I received the bill and found they'd taken off one small coke and a bottle of water meaning I'd paid around £18 for three bites of steak. Definitely won't be returning.

We'd heard good things about Webbe's and were not disappointed. Friendly helpful service and cosy surroundings. Two of us had the Sea Bass, good flavour crunchy skin accompanied by lovely garlicy prawns and grilled scallops. All on a bed of firm fresh greens and linguine. One had the Plaice, great and a big shout out for the fab mash. Puddings equally good standard. Recommend.

My first visit to Webbes it won't be my last. I haven't been before because I thought they only did fish dishes, I was wrong. Three out of the four of us had Jacobs ladder for our main. A delicious slow cooked rib of beef on the bone which was amazing. All three courses were presented well and tasted just as good. Alistair and the team were amazing, thank you all for a fantastic evening.

This is my favourite restaurant in Hastings. Both food and service are fantastic and their strawberry panna cotta is the best in England!

Great place, friendly staff the food was amazing. They don't put service charge on the bill so bare that in mind. Whenever I'm in Hastings I will be visiting again. Would recommend to anyone wanting good seafood and more.

Only let down by sand in the cockles we had as a taster. 14th February 2021 - great food, atmosphere and service. 27th October 2023 - excellent food, atmosphere and service. Best yet, even an Anniversary card and chocolate writing on dessert plate.

We had an amazing meal yesterday lunchtime after turning up without a reservation as a group of 10… We were greeted warmly and tables pushed together to accommodate us. The menu was fantastic and I found it difficult to choose. All our meals were just amazing and even the kids menu was super - a proper meals and no fried beige good in sight. Couldn’t recommend enough and wish we lived nearer so we can return

What an excellent Saturday lunch! We chose seafood tapas and the quality of all dishes was fabulous. This was coupled with great service from Alastair and a nice chilled prosecco. Do not miss this lovely restaurant in Hastings!

The service was great, and as always the food was delicious. The other guests in the restaurant however, unfortunately wasn’t a pleasant experience to be around but out of the restaurant staff control.

Beautiful place to eat, fresh sea food with a twist. You can see your food being cooked. Wonderful staff. We had the five plate starter and it was sensational. For mains we had the seafood linguine which was amazing and my partner had the cod with the game chips and it again blew my mind. Would recommend booking in advance.

My friend and I had a beautiful meal here on Saturday evening. When I booked I explained that I had poor hearing so I needed a table that wasn't close to any sound system . On arrival we were shown to our table and the waiter removed the speaker from the wall so that there was no chance of any disturbance , brilliant . We have had some bad experience recently with restraunt food so I was a little apprehensive that my friend would not enjoy the seafood linguine that she had ordered. She savoured every mouthful and when she had finished her comment was " Every restraunt should serve food as good as this or close ". I had the baked cod which was also a masterpiece. We were well looked after by every member of staff. Thank-you Webbe's for a delightful experience.

The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, with great presentation for each dish. On top of the food, every single member of the staff was a joy to interact with. We loved this place.

I had a lovely birthday meal with my wife a couple of weeks ago. We appeared to be surrounded by others celebrating birthdays so it is obviously the place to go, and deservedly so! The food was lovely, service was attentive and friendly, I do like it when a waiter is chatty but not intrusive, it's a fine balance. Wine was good, and sensibly priced. It was a lovely evening out and will definitely be returning.

My husband and I had dinner here on Friday evening. We weren’t sure what time we’d be getting into Hastings so didn’t book a table, but the staff managed to accommodate us on a busy Friday night. The staff were fantastic, really knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. Our waiter was very witty & recommended the oysters that I was in two minds about. All the serving staff put us at ease straight away after a very stressful journey down to the south coast. The food was beautiful! Delicious and cooked perfectly, we had oysters and cockles to start, followed by a seafood panaché and the lemon sole. Hats off to the kitchen staff who really delivered, and despite it being a busy evening, had our food out promptly. Will definitely be back next time we’re in the area. It was a big highlight of our visit.

Such a shame. It was my birthday meal and was looking forward to something special. Drinks came with the starters and not before. Our finished plates were on the table for some time. I wanted to order a bottle of wine to have with our main course but no one came to ask, even though I tried to catch various waiter’s attention. The wine order was taken after starting the meal. Again the finished plates were left on the table for a long time. When they were taken no one asked if we’d like dessert. I had to call a waiter over. All the food was really excellent but badly let down by the service and lack of attention. No one asked if everything was alright or if we had everything we needed. Maybe you were short staffed? If so, it would help if you let your customers know. I notice you only respond to your good reviews, and can see you have many. I feel really disappointed not to have had such a good experience as many others.

we were half an hour late due to bad weather but when we booked we gave them our number - they didn’t call, had given away our table to a single occupant and couldn’t fit us in - shame - why didn’t you call?

Absolutely superb evening last night with my partner. Food was exquisite, service was attentive and friendly, and overall experience 10/10. Will be returning forthwith! Definitely our favourite date night venue to date! Thanks guys 😍

The only thing better than the location is the service!

Having visited for my Birthday back in January and having an amazing time we returned again and was not disappointed. Service was lovely again. All the staff are excellent and the host really makes you feel welcome and you can have a good laugh with him aswell. Everything we ordered was fantastic and great value for money. The menu is seasonal so we can't wait for scallops to return. Will definitely visit many more times.

Such an amazing place with lovely food and great people. They let us in even though were fully booked being worried that we will have to wait a lot but we got the food very quick. Would definitely come back.

First comment, the food was delicious and plentiful. Our seating was peaceful and in what seemed a lovely location for what we wanted! The failings……. Attention to detail! Examples….. we had a selection of starters and a finger bowl was promised for the prawns, but never showed up! No one checked everything was ok with the starters and took too long before being cleared away. Staff attended the table next to us, but never took the initiative to check our table! Eventually the older gentleman, from the north of England cleared the table, but never once asked if we would like any more drinks. Mains were delivered but the junior members of the team never asked if we had everything we needed, or whether we wanted any drinks! Food was amazing. Not once did anyone check back to see all was ok! Too full for dessert we decided to leave. We waited to have the table attended and in the end my partner went to the area near the kitchen and asked for the bill! We raised our issues with the young waiter, who to be fair was the only person I’d give any credit to. He seemed to be serving the other side of the restaurant so not even sure who our waiter should have been! I heard one waiter who seemed totally on it, but he wasn’t covering our area! What’s sad is the restaurant wasn’t busy when we were eating. It had thinned out! In todays world, attention to detail is paramount, from the moment the guests arrived to the moment they walk out of the door. So many small service related issues could be easily implemented and make Webb’s awesome. Sadly we won’t be back.

Truly exceptional seafood experiance. The quality of the seafood ingredients aswell as the cooking and presentation was top class.The steak on the menu for non seafoodies was no token it was also delcious with the mushroom and spinch cooked perfectly. I also think the pricing represents very good value and with great staff and service i can not praise this establishment enough. I think if you were in brighton you would be paying double ! Even if you could match the quality... I rarely find myself so happy with an eating out experiance, im always quick to criticize, its nice to be able to praise on this occasion !

Food excellent and good vfm but service lacking. Waiting staff just going through the motions and lacked the professionalism expected at Webbes. Maybe just a bad day!

First time visiting Hastings, and stumbled across this place - very attractive menu. We ordered the lobster risotto (from the catch of the day specials board) which was faultless and packed with lobster. We also had the cod and chips, aswell as 5 starters for £25.75 - prawns, potted crab, squid, mussels and king prawns. Service was friendly and food was really enjoyable.

This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten in. The freshness of the fish and the subtle flavours of the dishes are incredible. Would highly recommend the 5 tasting plates to give a variety of flavours. The panaché of fish was delightful and the monkfish burger was amazing. We would definitely take a trip from London to eat here again.

Had a great early dinner in the sun. Wife got a seafood platter with excellent Maldon oyster. I had grilled Plaice which was one of the best seafood dishes I've had in a long time. Attentive and nice staff!

Was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. Mussels were amazingly fresh. Portion sizes were really generous, service was friendly and prompt Despite the restaurant being very busy. Pricing is more than fair given the quality of the food. Would definitely come back. Noticed someone putting a bad review of the older gentleman but he was nothing but courteous during our visit.

The Webbe’s website looks fantastic but sadly the gluten free fish and chips were very disappointing, the fish was not fresh as I’d expect right on the sea front and it was very expensive. The service however was helpful, efficient and thoughtful. I definitely won’t be returning or recommending.

We came here two nights in a row. On the first night we booked. This is a relaxed place with brisk and friendly service. The menu is inventive and makes use of the range of seafood available and our meals were delicious and super fresh. The next night was a Sunday and we wandered around slightly stumped by the number of places closed on a Sunday night. Webbe’s took us in again with no reservation and gave us our previous table - and we had another great meal quickly delivered. Thank you!

It is a perfect space; we had mussels starters and tempura, and the steak and seafood linguine burst with flavours. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the food. Also great service

The old male manager seems quite aggressive and arrogant, with very bad attitude and inappropriate words. While the other female waitress are helpful. Noticed the male manager behaved aggressively in other people’s reviews. Hopefully his rolling eyes🙄️terminate his career here soon, otherwise he might bring this restaurant down

Not the Webbes we use to love . Food excellent as always but service has gone out the window .Our server was pleasant but never checked to see if everything was ok . No atmosphere, whatsoever which to us is important when dining out . People waiting to be seated , why not have a greeter . Maitre de was working inside for the duration of our meal, only appeared once to disappear around the corner . After this experience Webbes will no longer be our first choice !

What a lovely meal - I had the seafood linguine and my other half had the steak. I don't like Monkfish so that got left but the rest of the fish was pretty amazing you could taste the sea. The mussels were huge. Service was excellent, the staff were very attentive. All was excellent what a lovely team they have there. Creating a nice atmosphere a welcoming venue and we would have gone again if we were staying longer.

The food was ok but not great. The service was hit and miss, but the staff were friendly.

Katie or Katy, was absolutely brilliant as our waitress. She was engaging and funny and very helpful and attentive . The food was outstanding and the other waiters and waitresses were also very helpful and lovely. We will return!

Lovely atmosphere ..the best place to go and eat in Hastings . Meal was delicious. The food was that good ..we went two nites in the same week . Waitresses was very friendly and helpful .. and the guy who was owner or running the place.. was chatty funny and made us feel so welcome .. the food was beautiful.. had the 5 course starters between us .. the king prawns was so nice all starters was lovely and steak was lovely too . Monk Fish burger was delicious and all other mains we tryed other evening we went was lovely food . This is lovely restaurant to go too . All chiefs working hard and the staff and the food is so good .we will defo be back thank you

We went back tonight after 8 years though the food improved starters was fairly good the prawn and monk burger was terrible taste procesed and restless very desepointed served on a old brioche probably now we never go back again
