At the Weralden Smokery you can combine your shopping with a great take away. The food is delicious and served by very friendly helpful staff. My wife is Gluten Free but she was able to find somnething to eat. I would certainly recommend the quiche. You can also combine your shopping with your take away. There is a great choice of products both food and gifts, etc.

We discovered this place in our long weekend get away and fortunately that was the only shop we needed for our entire trip. People who work there are all locals and it is easy to see how much they enjoy being there. They were very helpful and accommodating for our shopping requirements and they gave us great advice about the tourist attractions in the area as a bonus. I highly recommend this place to grab your morning coffee, to get your groceries or to eat in and enjoy the great ambiance.

This is a top quality establishment. The range of food on offer is excellent, from salmon, duck, chicken etc smoked on the premises to gourmet delicacies , ‘top end’ biscuits and an excellent cheese counter with a superb range of local and other UK and foreign cheeses. Mustards and condiments are of superior quality. Knowledgeable and friendly owner and staff and an all round ‘must visit’ and worth the detour. Now also operating as a local shop with fresh veg etc and strawberries etc in season. Good COVID arrangements with sanitiser etc on the door. Easy access as 30 seconds off the A21 at Flimwell.

My wife and I stopped by the Weald Smokery during lockdown. We were very pleased to find a well stocked shop. You could procure your whole meal, from appetisers to desserts. In addition to the high quality on site smoked products, we were delighted to find a good selection of essential supplies, some of which were not available in the supermarkets. Their cheese counter was also rich with top UK and French cheeses, the quality of which is rare to encounter. And which you could compliment with locally produce wines. And let's not forget their award winning smoked salmon. The Weald Smokery will delight your taste buds!

I found Weald Smokery products being sold at Flint & Oak, Westerham - an establishment of similar quality!I wanted something tasty for tea and bought the Weald Smokery's Smoked Trout Pate! Well, what a delightful surprise! It was lovely - delicious, subtly flavourful so that individual ingredients can be savoured - not overpowered with salt! I haven't tasted such a fish pate since the days when I did lots of dinner parties, and made pate myself.I also couldn't resist their Smoked Ham - not something I buy regularly, but it looked so delicious. And this was confirmed when eaten. NOT a flavour one finds in any other shops I know; maybe with the exception of local Farmer's Markets only!So thank you Weald Smokery for your expertise in producing such delightful products to tantalize our tastebuds and make us want more.I'm unable to complete info about the restaurant as I purchased Weald Smokery products from another superb shop.

I always come for breakfast menu served up to 11:30am. The smoked salmon, served with hot buttery scrambled eggs and a slice of their homemade bread is beyond description really. The smoked salmon is so delicate, it melts in the mouth, combined with the buttery eggs and flavoursome toast it's an award winning combination. Lovely strong, hot coffee, good service and reasonable price for such fantastic food. The crispy bacon and egg breakfast looks amazing too but I've never tried it because I can't resist the salmon. Well worth a visit.

Bank Holiday Monday August 2019 - Having taken my elderly Mother-in-law to visit my Father-in-law in Hawkhurst Comm Hosp we thought it would be nice to stop off for coffee and a piece of cake before taking her home. The sign on the road stated that the café was open so we duly wandered in but as we tried to order we were told the coffee machine was turned off as it was being cleaned as they were closing so we couldn’t have anything at all except an ice cream and we could only sit outside because they ‘close at 4 and were cleaning’! Surely if your sign states you close at 4 then you stop serving at 4 and clean afterwards! But not an hour earlier. Whilst we were there many others stopped and having parked were then turned away too. The sign on the road still indicated café was open when we left at 4. Very unimpressed and my husband says he isn’t going there to try the food now. Which is a shame as I have had delicious food there but the attitude of the staff was appalling. I understand it was a bank holiday but signage needs to be correct and adhered to!

We went here as a group of mums from a local prep school who are keen to try differnt places and to accomodate our friends who live close by. Initially when we arrived , we were ignored by the staff on the counter and when we asked for coffees we were told we had to sit at the bar, we were planning on eating but waiting for our friends to arrive. I really had to question my friend if they were really being that rude or perhaps I was taking it the wrong way. Once our other friends arrived we took a spare table but had to borrow a chair from another table and we got old off for doing that. Eventually, a more polite member of staff said they would move us to a bigger table. The food was delicious but entirely let down by the poor initial welcome and service. I hthi k it is un,I kelly that we will be back.

I was in the area for work and, having read the great reviews, wanted try one of the deli platters, but only sharing plates for two were available. I asked if I could have a scaled down version of the meat one (salamis etc) and was told no, because they were already plated up. So much for "everything is prepared from fresh after you order" as I kept hearing the waiting staff say...A couple of observations, having worked in catering myself. Firstly, I understand that margins are better on a sharing plate for 2 and have no objections to paying a bit more (proportionately) to have the same thing for one. Secondly, I understand that some dishes for sharing really cannot be scaled down - but surely that is not the case with cold meats & bread? Thirdly, I know that - at busy times - solo dinners are a mixed blessing for a restaurant, as they take up the same space as two for half the income. All that being said, there are a lot of us solo diners out there, looking for a change from boring sandwiches when travelling for work, so we are a large market. The restaurant was 2/3 empty during my visit. The message I got from today was that you were not interested in my custom or in making a small effort to accommodate me, or other solo diners. That's your decision, of course, but I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense from a business point of view. For the sake of 2 minutes to take a few slices of salami off a platter, you could have had a regular customer, instead of one who won't be back.

Popped in here one sunny afternoon when it was quiet. The place has been extended and refurbished and looked clean and tidy. There were a couple of tables taken outside but we were the only ones inside. Service was a little odd, seemed to be over staffed and none of them were particularly friendly. It was more like they were all on their first day and were very nervous and shy. We had just wanted a drink and I spotted coffee cake so added that onto my order. It came fairly quickly and we sat on the sofas at the far end. A few years ago, I used to manage a busy restaurant and the quiet period between 3 and 6 was mainly preparation time for evening service. The most popular job was polishing the cutlery which was done with hot water and napkins. The reason this was so popular was that the staff member was able to sit at a table in the restaurant and chill for a bit whilst wrapping cutlery! I noticed a similar thing at this cafe however...Why anyone thinks it's acceptable to polish the cutlery whilst customers are in the cafe is beyond me. The noise was so irritating, constant clanging of forks and knives. It completely spoiled our visit as I was getting more and more annoyed that of all the staff wandering around, not one of them suggested to their colleague that perhaps she should use some common sense and do it elsewhere or wait until the cafe was empty. By this time, another couple were in the cafe near us and every time the waitress dropped a knife or fork particularly loudly, they would glare at her but still no one seemed to notice. An older lady who seemed to be in charge of the staff had now appeared and she also didn't suggest that the girl stop until later or go into the kitchen and do it. I think to be a really good establishment, you have to employ staff that are aware of the mood of their clients, and to notice when drinks are nearly empty or if a member of a party hasn't eaten much food. Service is what can make or break somewhere like this and it certainly needs some work in my opinion. Also, I drive past it regularly and would suggest that the signage is improved. There seems to be a sign outside saying 'cafe open' and it's displayed all the time and I've seen a few people turn in and then realise the gates are shut and that it's all closed up. I also have no idea whether it's open on Sundays as sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't.

My mum and my 2 young children were driving past and saw this place and pulled in on impulse. We were early to check in to our holiday let nearby in Rye and so needed to kill a bit of time. My boys loved watching the horses frolic in the field at the back of the Car park. The smokery smells superb outside in the car park. The cafe was quite expensive. We only had cake and drinks. There looked to be one piece of carrot cake left but when it arrived it had been cut in half whereas my Mum’s coffee cake (which they had plenty I left of) was about double the size! The shop is quite expensive. Especially the frozen meals like the large pie we bought but it was tasty but I would expect it to be for £12! I wish we lived closer so I could sample some of the other shop produce like the smoked chicken and the bacon! We bought some frozen croissants though and they were utterly delicious when baked freshly in the morning.

Popped in after a walk thought it would be pleasant to stop for a cold drink and sandwich. Had been meaning to get round to trying it out. Wouldn’t really say service with a smile or that they were particularly grumpy, I think unwelcoming is best way to describe it . The inside environment is lovely has expensive looking refurb and interior, but at the end of the day it’s a cafe and an expensive one to boot - I paid £20 for 2 soft drinks and 2 bacon sandwiches, which were nothing special, in fact the bacon was cold and quite pale looking and unappetising. Did I complain? no, I have to say I don’t think it would have achieved anything. In fact the person who served us was clearing a table next to ours when we stood to leave and didn’t even acknowledge or say goodbye - and at no point did anyone approach and ask if everything was ok. Sorry to say I won’t be returning

Really sorry, the coffee at this cafe is disgusting. Bitter. Given the recent renovations and a push to extend their food offerings, some investment in decent coffee beans would be worthwhile. And get a barista to come and trainthe staff on how to make coffee. Take note, perhaps do some competitor sampling at Nutmeg in Tenterden, their coffee is always superb. Or Bluebell next door to Nutmeg. This is supposed to be constructive criticism because your food is good. Just shame about the coffee.

We were regular visitors for lunch which was always excellent . Since the opening of the new extended café, standards have fallen. On a recent visit I ordered the open sandwich. Halfway through the dish I discovered a long black hair in the food. The slice of bread was so tough I could not cut it with a knife and fork. When I complained, I was told the bread was sour dough bread and no one else had complained! Not the answer I wanted to hear. No offer to compensate in any way, Today my wife and I returned at lunch time, against my better judgement. After waiting ten minutes for service we left as the waitress was too busy putting glasses on empty tables and sorting out the cutlery drawer.

Whenever my wife and I visit Kent there are two things we always do. The first being a trip to Sissinghurst Gardens and the second a lunch and shop at The Weald Smokery (15 minute drive between the two). This weekend we enjoyed a special lunch with our 10 month old baby in the new Kiln Room cafe. A recently converted extension, with tasteful decor, floor to ceiling windows and warm atmosphere. One of the many charms of this place is the fact that all the smoked food on the menu is available to buy in the deli attached to the smokery. We ordered a smoked fish sharing platter (see picture) which was delicious and well presented. The friendly staff told us that the smoked prawns had just been taken out of the kiln! I'd also recommend trying one of the triple layered cakes, a slice of carrot cake went down very well with our coffee. It's impossible to leave the cafe without buying a treat from the shop, there's a vast array of award winning smoked goods on offer as well as some unique beverages and cheeses.

A selection of fish including smoked salmon and trout with smoked prawns dill sauce, taramasalata is served with a selection of bread olives and salad leaves. Really good flavours, well presented. While it was not sunny enough for umbrellas to be up, we sat outside. Service was good and polite at all times, and the food arrived promptly. Before leaving we purchased a few things from the small but we'll stocked deli shop. This was a really enjoyable lunch, and we will probably stop in again next time we are in the area.

Our most recent visit was last weekend when we met friends for breakfast. Booked a table outside so we could take our puppy who was made very welcome. The new restaurant area is beautiful & very well laid out as is the outside seating area. I chose smoked salmon and the best ever scrambled eggs & my husband had the full English breakfast which is vast. The food arrived in no time at all, even though everything on the menu is cooked to order. Most of the choices include the delicious fish and meats that are produced in the Smokery on site. There is also a huge choice of amazing homemade cakes if you have any room left. We have eaten here now on a number of occasions, my Mum loves it and so does my family. I went along with my twin girls aged 2 and a half to meet friends who also have a child of the same age. Before the food came one of my daughters needed a very quick clothes change as she'd spilt apple juice down her dress. This took about 15 seconds. This was followed by one of the waitresses coming over and telling us that if we wanted to change our children's clothes that we were to do it in the toilets. When we asked if anyone had complained, they responded by saying no one had but that other clientele had given them looks to the contrary. We then said that we'd leave and asked for a refund which they did in part. They refused to refund a cheese sandwich they'd already made and at £4 is rather overpriced. I feel that if businesses like this want to succeed then they need to be more family friendly. It's disappointing when you find a potentially nice place to go and meet friends and then they have an attitude like that. I won't be going there again.

The food was always great, but since the new manager has taken charge the menu has increased and perfected to a high standard. We’re on holiday in the glorious Kent Weald and had passed the Smokery a few times. This morning we stopped for breakfast before going for a walk at Bewl Water. It was a splendid treat.I had the most gorgeous smoked kippers with scrambled eggs, while my husband had the full English. I tried the fantastic smoked sausage which came with it - delicious. My kippers were beautiful and cake with lovely creamy scrambled eggs. It’s just as well we’re passing through as I suspect we’d need lots of walks at Bewl Water to burn off these delicious breakfasts.Highly recommended.

Delicious smoked fish sharing platter followed by lemon meringue pie and banoffee pie. Great range of cakes on offer and liked that they had rooibos tea. Cafe is a bright, relaxed room just off the smokery shop which has a brilliant range of products - smoked meats and fish produced on site plus local produce and high quality sweets and chocolates.

We called at the Weald Smokery in the afternoon for tea and cakes. It was obvious that we were in a new extension to the premises which has been done so well. The furniture is top class, sturdy but fits in very well with the surroundings. Also the crockery (which I noticed was Australian china) was beautifully simple and classic. The choice of cakes on the menu left us wanting to try them all but we settled for a delicious almond cake and one of the best carrot cakes I have ever tasted. We were served tea in our own individual teapot which gave us ample refills from very friendly and obliging staff. Will definitely visit again.

Before Christmas the cafe was very 'snug' but has been extended to provide a relaxing eatery with calm decor. There is a tasty range of snacks, light lunches which enable you to sample much of the produce from the Smokery, all very delicious and thoughtfully prepared and presented. We chose a smoked prawn cocktail, smoked haddock with poached egg and spinach both served with freshly baked bread. For dessert there was delicious sticky toffee pudding amongst others. Alternatively you could settle for a sandwich or a slice of heavenly cake with tea or coffee. The choice is yours and you are bound to be pleased!Do make sure you have time to browse and per chase some of the local foods from the Smokery range and deli counter!

We visited for lunch on Saturday, having learned the Weald Smokery had recently won a CPRE Sussex award for creative rural businesses. We hadn't booked, but luckily they had one table free. Excellent choice on the menu in the small restaurant, most if not all based on their own home-smoked fish, meat or cheese, and very different from most competitors in the area. Friendly and efficient serving staff. We also went home with several items from the associated delicatessen. Expansion of the premises, just off the A21 at Flimwell, now underway.

We visited the Smokery last Saturday to have a quick lunch. The menu included a Hot Smoked Hash which included chunks of hot smoked salmon, new potatoes, capers and spring onion. Absolutely delicious. Full of flavour and textures. Very satisfying as a hot dish. The little bistro is great for these quick meals with a range of tasty sandwiches as well as tea, coffee and cake. A great stop if you are heading for the coast, just off the A21 and so much better than a chain. There is a good delicatessen on the same site.Go there if you like to try interesting well cooked food. Don't if you want burger and chips.

Stopped here by chance, small eating area although further tables and chairs are available outside when the sun is shinning. The establishment is a cafe cum deli, on the cafe side there was a good selection of meals and home baked cakes all at reasonable prices. The deli section was stocked with a good selection of smoked meats, fish and dairy produce etc. On our visit there were free samples of smoked mussels and prawns to try out on the deli counter, in addition to samples of various cheeses on request (obviously we did buy produce as well!). The cafe and deli were clean and tidy, service was good and staff were polite and attentive. Will definitely stop back here again even just for the smoked mussels, very moorish!

A good location just off the A21 with a farm shop too. On my visit my knife was dirty, although I didnt need it. £6 for a small bacon baguette I think is top end, but it was cooked well enough, the menu board said it came with eggs and something else, but mine didn't, unless that was even more money? tea served in a nice teapot too but again at £2.30 is a bit steep. It's an expensive cafe in a location that has no competition so I guess they can charge premium prices?

We stopped here for a light lunch and to take a break during a long drive. Tiny eating area, although they have plans to extend this. We shared a smoked fish platter which came with excellent bread and a fresh green salad. We had a good sized cup of coffee each and the bill was a modest £23.On the way home we called in to purchase several items including a loaf of the bread we had with our lunch, pate, smoked salmon (on offer) bacon and other items. We both said we wished we lived closer as there were so many tempting things available and it would be an excellent place to discover really different Christmas presents. The next time we travel to East Sussex we hope the A21 roadworks have finished so that we get to the Smokery a little earlier - again for a light lunch and to buy gifts for our hosts.

Felt like we were in incovenience to the staff - the young person who worked there had no social skills and it was as if even ordering some breakfast was too much of an ask.The food was satisfactory, nothing special, but definitely over-priced and overrated. We didn't feel welcomed, we wanted to get tea and cake after our breakfast but decided against it. Nobody cleared our table, after 20 minutes of waiting for someone to serve us we decided it was time to go.We were over charged by £10, they couldn't give us a receipt and they struggled to work out the math and give us our money back.Drove out of there as quick as possible, and won't be going back

The menu is limited (very fish based). The food was fresh and of good quality but the coffee is expensive and only comes in one size (small). The bagel with smoked salmon was fine but toasted on both sides so quite tough. Twice as expensive as M&S, so we won't be going again.

Dropped in for lunch on way to Benenden. Small cafe with a small but good selection of ll day breakfast and lunch items. I am not a vegetarian but there were few veggie options but, if you like smoked food esp fish, this place is difficult to beat. I had smoked salmon and cream cheese on a toasted bagel with a side salad and it was one of the best ever (£6.50+ for extra salad)! Partner had a ploughmans with whole baguette, several slices of home baked ham, salad relish, gorgeous chutney and a hunk (prob c. 100g) of lovely cheddar (£8.50).Ladies serving were pleasant, attentive but relaxed; same in the shop. Guess problems earlier in the year may have been down to inexperience. Coffees and cakes also excellent and cakes very good value (£2.50)

Having shopped here for a good number of years, always a delight to visit; we decided to try the restaurant , this was the first time we had visited since they had re-vamped the Smokery, it hadn't changed our minds only confirming what we already new. An excellent experience, the food was as delightful as it always was. Perhaps as time goes on & it becomes more popular they might have to increase the restaurant capacity. Keep it up, well worth the trip from Wales.

We've been meaning to visit this smokery for months since finding a pamphlet near home in Orpington. The bistro off of the shop is very small and even on a cold, wet day most tables were taken, so would advise booking if you can. I ordered a smoked chicken and chirzo salad with advocado and my husband went for the All Day Breakfast. We didn't wait long and they served our delicious food, mine was so flavoursome and delicious but the show stealer was my husbands Toulouse Sausage served up with a ridiculously good breakfast of egg, bacon, beans, sausage, toms and black pudding...scrumptious. Was it worth the wait to visit and the hour drive...you bet! We also left with an armful of food (mostly to recreate the breakfast) but will be back to shop some more or possibly order some of the fabulous gift hampers for Christmas. Excellent value for money, cheaper than a pub lunch.

I visited the Weald Smokery about a month ago for some lunch and whilst I thought the food was lovely, I had a very strange experience with their customer service. The staff were clearly totally untrained and made a lot of mistakes during our service which was really frustrating:- Long queues because they couldn't work the tills - Couldn't work the card machines to take payment - took ages and couldn't give us receipts!- Confusion over how to manage payments for items bought from the deli vs. the bistro - asked some of our party for payment up front, but asked others to pay at the end. Led to a lot of confusion over the final bill. - Mistakes taking orders - some of our items never arrived once ordered!- Long waits for food items- Wrong bill values - had to come back to us asking for money after we paid the final bill because they'd got it wrong! Poor management too:- Management later complained that we'd left without paying the full bill - DESPITE us having paid at about 7 different interfaces across the lunch (individually, final bill and follow up request)!!! The onus for asking for correct payment is TOTALLY on a business, and I really resented being accused of 'intentionally' not paying when our party had made every effort to do so. Really, really poor and a totally bizarre management decision to take. Such poor service unfortunately totally ruins a dining experience unfortunately. I would not recommend the Weald Smokery.

Last minute decision and so very glad we did! We met with the kids grandparents here and wow, loved it. - plenty of seating inside - seating outside - small play area for kids - the food can be snacks or a full meal - catered and understood really well re our daughters coeliac challenges with food and cross contamination - the breakfast was delicious, even at lunch time - we stayed even longer and then had cakes - the biggest slice of cake I’ve ever seen at the best price (had to box and take home) - lovely staff Of course there is also spa/food market, pots and plants, cards and gifts, furniture for sale and more. We had such a great time. Thank you so much Eve

We use cooden beach regularly as we like the venue but it is very over priced for both food and service and very hit and miss sometimes good sometimes poor usually when you take friends there .We had two large glasses of nice house wine (8.50per glass) we then had an egg mayo sandwhich shared it came with a small salad and that was it for 8.50 used to have coleslaw but no more,no problem as we ordered off the menu and knew what the price was however it stated bar service only but then put a service charge on when queried said had to stand as the food comes from the kitchen ,I think it is a shame as this is a nice venue but is very hit and miss and should not be for the high end price
