This was the best value hotel we stayed at in a recent walking holiday on the Isle of Wight. The room was obviously newly decorated with a large ensuite. Both food and ales were excellent and the reception was friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

We visited for lunch and once we ordered I felt we should have cancelled. Did not have a nice welcome or smile! The area where we were seated had slug trails all over the carpet .. dead flies on the window ledges .. the curtains had dirt and cobwebs everywhere. The television was on showing cricket which would have been nice to turn off whilst eating. A person was talking to staff whilst smoking by the door. We ordered beef burger meals. The salad was cheap and brown lettace. The burger was tasteless. The chips were ok. After visiting the toilet which was not clean I would not recommend eating here

We (2 couples) stayed for 2 nights. Do not be put off by the exterior looks, inside has very nice decor, lovely large bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, really comfortable bed and nice touches like ironing board and iron, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Staff are wonderful hosts. Breakfast and the evening meals were all excellent. We would recommend the Waverley to everyone.

Have had many Sunday lunches at the Waverley but today's was awful. Broccoli and swede stone cold, not cooled down but absolutely cold. Gravy was thin and tepid. Meat was stringy. Potatoes were hot though. Never again which is a shame.

Excellent food and service with a smile.I really enjoyed my homemade shepherds pie and my friend enjoyed her vegan curry (cauliflower and chickpea). A generous helping and definitely homemade. The pub is very covid-19 savvy and take your details as you enter and there is a one-way system in place. Very safe and friendly service. The menu has been scaled down, but is more than ample to suit all tastes. They also have a very good specials board. I would recommend calling them to book a table, as space can be limited.

The owner is an absolutely valid human being. Rude and unnecessarily aggressive. I would not go there again if you paid me. Horrific man. Full of arrogance and an over inflated sense of self importance. And has a very obvious and blatant hatred and contempt for disabled people which he made no effort to try and hide at all.

Dropped in here for a pint on a Sunday dinner time before a visit to the castle. Such a lovely, cosy pub. They were totally buzzing with tablefuls of people eating Sunday lunch. Locals chatted to me, a stranger, amiably as did the landlord and landlady. So I went away with warm impressions of the Waverley. It's a traditional pub, busy on a Sunday lunchtime the way they all used to be. It must have a good clientele, as they'd just raised over £2000 towards the refitting of their namesake the paddle steamer Waverley, of which there's a painted sign over the pub's front door. It's nice to see that pubs like this can still thrive. I recommend a visit, whether for a meal or, like me, just for a pint.

We visited the Waverley Inn this past Sunday for a family dinner, there were 6 children and 3 adults. Several of us had roasts, and a few of the kids had the kids menu meal. I have to say, every single thing was sooooo tasty. I had gammon, which was the nicest gammon I've ever eaten, my partner had the lamb which was also delicious, the kids meals were tasty too and priced at an appropriate level. The service was perfect, from the friendly and helpful bar staff to the lovely chef who chatted to us about their method for preparing the gammon, and who was also happy to help us at the table, he was amazing! Finally, the puddings were also really nice and there were quite a few to choose from, I had a delicious rhubarb crumble! All in all, I can't wait to go back and would heartily recommend visiting!

Arrived with a couple of friends for a birthday one nighter. Although the hotel isn't signposted from the road as the bottom of the hotel is a pub also, once we located it, there was plenty of parking.Check in was painless and all done in a few moments. The room we had was a family room, 1 double and 3 singles (room number 1). We had our own bathroom, and the decor was immaculate and well looked after. The bar itself has a pool table and dartboard and jukebox which is all in an enclosed area which I thought was nice. The beer prices weren't overly expensive and there is plenty of choice and range. We decided to eat at the pub before we headed to town. I had the ribs, which although were a little chewy for my liking, were still delicious nonetheless and I ate the lot. Taxis into the centre of Newport were only 5 pounds, (use a company called alpha) and they're are plenty of eateries and bars and lively venues dotted all around.Breakfast the next morning was delicious, I had the smaller of the 2 breakfast options, but if you're feeling particularly hungry, try the larger breakfast which was basically double of everything. Only 2 very small quibbles. The stairwell leading to the rooms could do with a spot of decluttering. And as we're not from the area, we asked the barmaid where the best places were for a drink. While she was explaining where the best places were, a woman on her laptop in the bar (I'll assume this was the landlady) interrupted her and said something about the fact that she was 19 and we are 38-42 age range that we would perhaps not like those types of venue. It almost felt like she had inferred (perhaps not intentionally) that we were too old to frequent the places suggested!Neither of these quibbles would deter me from visiting Newport again, nor would it stop me from staying in a lovely, well run and friendly pub/hotel again for a return visit. Thank you waverley for your hospitality, until next time...

We stayed in Carrisbrooke for a few nights and visited the Waverley twice for something to eat. It's a nice straightforward pub with friendly staff and a typical choice of menu.. The portions were good . Have only given 3 stars as on one evening my meal wasn't great , maybe I was unlucky.. It's better than "Average" though so three and a half stars !!Much better value than most of the choices in Newport so well worth a visit..

We stayed in one of the Inns rooms at the weekend as needed to be in the Carisbrooke location. The rooms are large and with high ceilings. Decoration is a little tired, but this is a very old building and must be a nightmare to maintain, especially being in a conservation area. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom roomy with bath and shower available. It had everything we needed.

Easy dismissed as it sits on a junction as ‘just another pub’ I’d dare you to try it. Friendly, welcoming and the food looked good - we’ll eat there next time. Roaring fire, the only possible deterrent, for me, is the enormous TV with constant football coverage to one end of the bar. Small garden & car park, it’ll be worth stopping there. Maybe they’ll put the rugby on?!

The wife and I have used the Waverley a few times before and have always enjoyed the food and service here. Today, we had been out on a hot sunny day and decided to call in for a nice cold drink. My wife said she felt peckish and so ordered a BLT on baton. WOW!! It was MASSIVE!! It was (If I recall, £5.75). The side salad had the most tasty dressing on! I had to ask the lady behind the bar what the dressing was, because I wanted to either buy some or make it myself! She informed me that it was honey and mustard! Wonderful! I had to help my missus eat her BLT baton (ah, shame!! Heh, heh!!). It was the absolute BEST BLT I had ever had. Seriously! You won't be disappointed! I can't wait until we call in again! My wife and I and a friend booked a Sunday lunch for the first time here. We were all instantly impressed as we went in and saw the tables beautifully set. We had mentioned when booking that we had a small Chihuahua with us. No problem! The menu was very selective with a choice of meats if you wanted a Sunday roast. Vegetarian option was also available if required. We each had a Sunday roast, again with a further option of a "small" or "large". The two ladies had a small and I had the large (being a bloke!!) The ladies meals were brought out first (with very little waiting time!) and they looked a good size. Mine was then brought out and it has huge! Fantastic value! Small was (at time of writing) £6.95 and large was £8.95. Where else can you get this value? Not only was the food superbly cooked, it was also presented really well. We managed to finish our main meal and decided to have a dessert. Wow! They were fantastic! And for just £2.95! You can't buy a coffee for that price in some places! We will definitely be going again without a doubt!

Stopped for a cream tea which the wife enjoyed. Usual 2 scones provided with jam and clotted cream and a good pot of tea. They normally do Gluten Free cream tea but due to high demand had sold out of GF scones. They were however able to supply GF cheese scones so I had a savoury version of cream tea, 2 GF cheese scones, a tomato chutney and a cream cheese. Was very nice and would recommend.

Stopped here for tea and we're so glad we did. Loose leaf tea in a china tea pot (not one of those awful stainless steel ones that dribbles all over the table), a tea strainer, china cups and saucers and a china milk jug - this is how tea should be served. The Bakewell slice and chocolate cake were both delicious and the portions very generous. The friendly welcome and engaging staff added to the enjoyment. Looking forward to the next visit.
