South East Beach Cafe in Isle of Wight

What miserable staff! Almost throwing the plates in front of customers, murmuring something about condiments being inside!

Had a lovely full English breakfast and a mug of tea, right next to the sea

This is one of our favourite beach bars on the Island. It is the first one you see as you walk down the hill to the beach, and it almost seems mandatory to sit in the hot sun with a cold beer. Our house favourite used to be frozen peroni beer with the glasses coming straight out the freezer. This summer, corona beer on tap was added. This is now our new favourite.

Just had drinks but they were served quickly.

We stopped off for a cuppa as part of a bike ride around the Island. Lovely team running the cafe and a chilled atmosphere. Incredible setting on the beach. A great atmosphere with regulars and tourists. Nice quick food service too to recharge us. Will go back to this warm welcoming place.

Food disappointing £7.50 for a (3 finger) Fish Finger (small) roll + £4 for chips. Wife went for seafood basket £12.50 for frozen breaded selection with chips. Nice location and views but wouldn't re-visit for food

It’s expensive for what it is really. The staff look a little fed up too. The place has more potential.

Sorry to give a 3 star, however they are serving supermarket cakes (my pet hate). The coffee was great, you have a small kitchen please knock up some homemade products :)

Lovely little Cafe coffee was very good and the Toast.

We work hard for our money so we can have time off work and visit cafes for coffee and breakfast, this place does not deserve our money. A lady serving on her own, bad tempered and moaning about her workload. No acknowledgment of you stood waiting at the counter. Every time a group walk in she looks up with a look of “ how dare you come in” This could be a great place to spend a lunchtime but no thank you!!!

Bought a couple of ice reams which we ate there. When I went to the bar to ask for the code to use the toilet the barman seemed to take great delight in saying the toilet was broken and couldn’t be used, despite seeing someone exit from it!

Staff were really friendly, food was great.

Perfect location right on the beach, great breakfast and good price to top it off!! Have been here a few times now over the years and it never disappoints.

Such a good spot for lunch, sitting out on the deck. Had the chicken burger and it was delicious! Would also highly recommend the milkshakes.

I was greeted by Eden with a smile and I asked although I was 10 minutes late was it possible to order a breakfast. After a quick word with the chef the answer was yes. I chose the full English they had no hash browns but was offered an extra egg instead with a mug of tea which was served with separate sugar milk and a tea bag so u could brew to my liking a nice touch I thought. I sat at a table with views out into the bay very nice. The tables and chairs clean and tidy. I asked if they had a toilet I could use and again they did. Spotlessly clean and nice smelling with baby changing facilities too if required. The food arrived piping hot and freshly cooked I enjoyed every mouthful. All for £12.95 which I thought was great value for money. I would recommend this establishment to anyone.

Dog friendly, inside and outside. Nice coffee, lovely lemon drizzle cake. Mobility scooter friendly. Would return.

Very busy it was 1pm got served quickly food came out in a reasonable time moderate prices.

Fabulous beachfront setting with deck. Great views of Culverdown and the cliffs towards Ventnor. I was very impressed that plastic cups are 100% biodegradable.

One of only a couple or so cafes I had found on the esplanade that we could actually get into with a mobility scooter. Service was quick and food hot. Have used it a couple if times during our week here if wr haven't gone out for the day

We stopped at this Cafe for a drink while in Shanklin. We didn’t have any food but what we saw looked nice. Dogs are welcome at this cafe too. The cafe offers amazing views out to sea or along the esplanade.

Real untapped potential, great location and views, however with inaccurate online opening times and odd real opening times, mixed with a loud echoey room and not great food, it's a bit of a let down. If they upped the interior decoration, and redid their menu, this could be an extremely popular place.

This is a great cafe right on the sea front. The atmosphere was great. Well worth just going for a coffee.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee each. The service was excellent the cafe clean and despite being small felt spacious . Praise where warranted !

Set in the prime location right on the end of the Shanklin Beach, with several tables inside and a few on the small terrace outside, all with superb view of the beach and the sea.Pleasant service, frequented by locals - always and good sign. Breakfast ordered was satisfying, coffee and hot chocolate on a cold but sunny February morning, delicious.

Really lovely place right on the beach. Had the fish and chips and it was amazing - all cooked fresh and very tasty. The beach burger was also huge and really nice. Would thoroughly recommend a visit - even in the depths of January!

Average place by the sea for drinks and food. I do think they maybe need to take a course in how to clean glasses!!

Been here before few times, however today was busier than usual. Coffee was served in a paper cup, was told they’d ran out. Coffee wasn’t the usual standard. When I removed the wax wrapper that was on the plate instead of a serviette there was remnants of ketch up where it hadn’t been washed up properly or checked if it had been through a dish washer. Outside tables need a good scrub down with a strong solution. Inside teapots that are presumably there for decor were beyond needed a clean. Need to pull your socks up

Been here many times, food is good but today the coffee was served in a takeaway cup and tasted very weak (make better at home), it was very busy and he said that all cups were out. I had a long wait in the queue which give my eyes time to look around, I felt that this place needs a good deep clean, looking at decorative tea pots they look like they haven’t been cleaned for a long time. We got served our bacon roll on a metal plate with a pice of wax paper between roll and plate, once finished I removed the wax paper only to find traces of food on plate. Not happy and won’t be going back for a while. Shame as a perfect location but anywhere that serves food should be immaculate.

Strangely enough we are going down there to meet Mainland friends in 90 minutes. On dry days it is our go to Cafe and Meetup place as we can sit outside. And today it's cloudy and damp, so we can sit inside. Give it a try yourself. 👍

The staff kept giving me and my family weird looks whilst we were eating and didn’t feel very invited or welcome. The food was okay but not the best

Not busy but service was slow. When served, the young person was very nice and polite, a good model for the others to follow. The coffee was nice and the views were excellent, very pleasant 😁.

Great place for delicious early breakfast, when other establishments on the esplanade are still closed ( even though its holiday season). This cafe is perfectly situated overlooking the sea, its clean, welcoming and the full English is brilliant. We won't use any other cafe in the area now.

Came here on a whim after the festival for some breakfast. Nice chatty staff, great food, great location. Would recommend.

Absolute gem of a place Very clean food was delicious they even made a chicken nugget adult meal for myself with extra nuggets which where to die for 😊 Was so nice we went back the next day Highly recommended

Not very welcoming, asked for 1 egg on toast and got 2 not on toast.

Lovely food, lovely stuff who said hello again when we came back the same day. My husband highly recommends the ice cream milkshakes and I loved the breakfast I had especially when the egg yoke is runny. The only thing I didn't like was some entitled elderly people puting the tables together right infornt of the toilet which makes difficult for any disabled person to get to the toilet

A utilitarian beach café serving good coffee and a range of alcohol and non alcohol drinks, ices and basic snacks. Closed at 4pm during our visit even though the heatwave meant the beach and promenade was still packed with potential customers.

Bustling beach cafe. Family run. Everyone smiling and a warm welcome. Food was hot, beer nicely chilled. Great view of Shanklin beach. Very busy little place. Will return for sure.

Lovely little cafe on the sea front. Very clean with friendly staff. There is a good amount of seating inside and outside, all with a great view for a nice summers day! Food and drinks were good, clean toilet inside too. Parking is right next door so easy to access. Probably one of the better places on the sea front.

Didn't have anything to eat here but had got drinks on a very wet and windy day. Service was excellent and the owner was very polite and friendly. The view was stunning.

We only had a coffee here but we saw many lovely items from the menu, the coffee were wonderful and the 2 very friendly ladies that were in that day made us fell very comfortable and to top it all they were playing frankie valli tracks marvellous. The outlook from the seats made us feel like we were in the sea well worth a vist .

First lunch in IOW and this is a superb place. Cod goujons with fries is an absolute ideal lunch. Fresh food with great views. Will come back again before we leave.

We came here for a fish and chip lunch, with a sea view. We got both, but terribly disappointed to be served what was clearly frozen fish, as in the sort of stuff you can buy in the supermarket and cook yourself. Not the lovely looking fish and chips pictured on the website. Friendly people, great location, let down by the food. I get that places sell out of things, but we weren’t told it wouldn’t be proper battered fish. Was the biggest disappointment of our holiday.

Cheapish and cheerful. Good, raised seafront position

Stopped here today and bought 2 lattes, a piece of Cappuccino cake & a piece of victoria sponge cake. It was all nice. The cakes were fresh and tasty, and portion sizes were really good. It cost £12 altogether but was well worth it. The man who served us was friendly and polite. Would definitely go here again :-)

Great location but food and coffee not up to much. Coffee served in cardboard cup and not great. Sausages used in English breakfast were the cheapest ones you could buy… Service was lack lustre in the extreme. Fantastic location when the sun is shining, a great shame the product or service is up to the place…. A shame.

Brilliant breakfast!! Set us up for the day!!

Not overly impressed by any aspects of our visit. Thought the view was lovely, the coffees are weak and come in paper cups - so a single use product. The food wasn’t impressive and we felt the service lacked attention and a warming manner. We weren’t greeted or even smiled at by the lady working, she spent most of her time on her private phone within earshot of all the guests. After reading lovely reviews, we were very disappointed and won’t be returning. Sorry

Great cuppa after a long walk from sandown

Nice location, but ordered a sausage bap for £4.50 which was filled with cheap & tasteless sausages, only made edible with plenty of HP sauce. There are better places locally for a good quality breakfast, with keener prices.

We enjoy coming down here on a sunny afternoon for a wander along the front or the beach and end up at the South East Beach Cafe for a coffee each and something to eat be it Cheesey Chips or a sandwich or a light meal. Nothing elaborate or expensive. We always have friendly service and good food. There is always plenty of customers to have a chat with, a lot of them local people - which to me speaks volumes about the South East Beach Cafe. Give it a try for yourself and see what you think.

Shut 2 hours earlier than advertised so can only comment on that.

Went to Cafe as it was advertised that it was open until 6pm. So before 5 we rolled up to be told by the grumpy hostess 'we' re closed' (while busily serving a customer). So can't comment on food and drink but the lack of bonhomie made me think I really hadn't missed much.

Was lucky enough with the weather to have an early morning coffee sitting out on the decking in the sunshine. It was one of those good to be alive moments.

Absolutely wonderful breakfast and the location of the cafe itself was superb as it overlooks the beach. We visited whilst on our holiday and we would thoroughly recommend to others.

Service was inconsistent Food portions were stingey Overpriced for what you get Wobbly tables Too noisy and quite small inside. Certainly would not recommend and will not ever go again.

Great coffee, nice vlean seating and great service

Came here on a nice sunny day and sat outside. Great views over the beach. Had 2 x cheesy chips, calamari and a soft drink for ~£17. Great quality food. The kids then had a Mr Whippy each - massive ice cream which they enjoyed. Staff were friendly and would recommend this place to others.

Well priced and great spot to eat with amazing view, food was very good and the service was spot on, staff work realy hard to get orders out on time, would come again and happy to recommend

Came here at 10.30am for breakfast and after queuing for 15mins to be served at the hatch and staff that had just walked in for shift serving others in the que before us we where told they where no longer doing breakfast by a rather rude member of staff it wasn't by any means overcrowded there was tables available will not go again poor poor service
