South East Beach Cafe in Isle of Wight

Came here at 10.30am for breakfast and after queuing for 15mins to be served at the hatch and staff that had just walked in for shift serving others in the que before us we where told they where no longer doing breakfast by a rather rude member of staff it wasn't by any means overcrowded there was tables available will not go again poor poor service

Stopped for a lunch and we’re pleasantly surprised by the lovely food and very friendly staff. Furthermore, a lovely location. Highly recommended.

Had a really lovely quick lunch at the South East Beach Cafe - prawn sandwiches and a pint of prawns were all excellent - the sandwiches were absolutely overflowing with prawns so no scrimping there! Service was very friendly too, and we sat inside by the open sliding doors with a lovely view of the sea.

We arrived very early Friday morning, the lady was on her own but cooked & served us 8 different breakfasts that were just amazing, delicious & so well presented. Nothing was too much trouble she continually served us with drinks & was so good with my little daughter. The food & service was so good we returned to order takeaway at lunchtime. There was a wait as the food delivery had not arrived on time but that was ok and we enjoyed delicious toasted sandwiches with chips even Vegan cheese as an option! Thank you so much wonderful food and service. Great prices too The lady worked so hard to accommodate us Even though at lunchtime they were so. It’s the quality of the food was brilliant.

We only had breakfast here but it was freshly prepared and plentiful. Full English plus they were accommodating enough to serve fish cakes and salad from the lunchtime menu! Great location on the beachfront and adjacent to a car park.

Just stopped for coffees whilst grandchildren played on beach. Great position. Unfortunately the person serving was less than welcoming, didn’t take the whole order of four different coffees before rushing off. The decaf Americans came back with milk although ‘black’ had been said to the disappearing back. The actual decaf black Americans when it arrived was not pleasant.

I've just had the worst cup of coffee in my life here. It was like toxic dishwater! I had to throw it away. Definitely do not recommend this awful cafe!

Just stopped for a quick coffee and yes it was probable close to closing (4pm) but certainly got a sullen looking miserable woman serving us. The coffee was ok. A shame as the cafe position is great.

Popular spot on the esplanade in Shanklin. We have called there several times now . Service is slow & the staff could be more friendly. Coffee & hot chocolate is good & there are benches handy .

Quick stop for drinks and a slice of cake - the homemade Victoria sponge is amazing!! Friendly staff, super clean and excellent COVID measures

We only had a few drinks here but we were able to stay on the table for a couple of hours without feeling pressured to leave. The food looked good though. Very friendly people.

What can I say twice visited Shanklin and twice popped in. First time for a cuppa and chips. 2nd time sat inside listening to UB40.... Eating and drinking. Customer service spot on. Thank you for a lovely stop off

Me and my other half came here for breakfast and I gotta it really nice best I've had for a long time. Defo recommended if your in shanklin.

Staff here are really helpful, food is not ordinary beach food, real thought has gone into the range available on the menu. I had brie bacon and cranberries sandwich, absolutely tasty. I really missed this place during lockdown, a nice feel to the cafe in all weathers.

We came here as a family for lunch after getting caught out on the beach in some torrential storm. Firstly, this place was dry, which at that time, was all we were after. The staff were happy to accept two miserable soaking wet adults, two more miserable teenagers, and one baby in a pushchair who thought the whole situation was hilarious. In all seriousness, the cafe is a nice little place right on the beach, with fantastic unobstructed views out to sea. The food was good (we all had toasties) as was their hot chocolate, and I’m not even a hot chocolate person however I was desperate for something hot and ordered the first thing I could think of. The staff were also all nice. We would definitely come back here, and would definitely recommend.

So pleased this cafe is open again, it's the perfect place for a leisurely lunch overlooking Shanklin beach. My husband and I called here for lunch last week and were not disappointed. We both had fish dishes which were well cooked and nicely presented . Cheerful staff made us feel very welcome despite Covid restrictions and social distancing limitations. We will be back!

Ordered 2 flat whites, arrived hotter than the sun and you could smell the burnt milk. I asked the waitress if we could please have the coffees remade, she simply topped them up with cold coffee turning the coffees into a luke warm babycino. With that amount of lack lustre it was clear asking again wouldn’t result into a good coffee so we put them to the side and left having paid £9.00. Disappointing to say the least.

We have been to the beach at Shanklin twice in the last week and each time we have bought coffees and ice creams here. Great quality and friendly service. Just what was required.

We had arranged to meet other members of our family at another cafe nearby which turned out to be closed so 13 very wet people descended on this one. The young people went off to play crazy golf in the pouring rain and on return we ordered lunches for all. The lady had warned us that they stopped serving at 2pm but was happy to take our order. The various toasties and soup were delicious and the chips the best we have had all week. The 2 staff were friendly and accommodating and we didnt feel rushed to leave. A lucky find and highly recommended.

I’ll be honest, we were heading to another nearby cafe, which happened to be full, and this was the next one we came too.This was busy as well, but had a free table, so we decided to give it a try.We ordered 2 teas and 2 BLT’s on granary,and very good it was too.The place is lovely and clean, service was good and food came out quickly.We considered our visit here to be a bit of good luck, and would highly recommended, and would now make this our first choice.

We stopped off here before walking along to sandown. It was last Monday in the beautiful sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. It was actually warm sitting outside. We enjoyed a glass of wine, hot chocolate, sausage bap and a tuna melt. The sausages in the bap could have been better quality if I’m honest and they were not that well cooked for me, but apart from that everything was great. We will visitor again next time we are in shanklin

My partner and I just shared the most amazingly tasty tuna-cheese melt wholemeal sandwich and portion of chips on the beach at shanklin. The filling in the sandwich was very generous with just the right amount of cheese accompanied by a delicious Lavazza cappucino!

Went for a walk today and had teas and coffee here. Owner and staff were first class telling us how great a day they had and printed all their varied functions option.

I really enjoyed my visits to the south east beach cafe over the past few months. good coffee at a reasonable price, nice friendly service and (most important to me) we could take the dogs. The view is awesome and there is parking.

Good food which was nicely presented and it seemed very clean. The location is fabulous, right on the beach and we were spoilt with gorgeous sunny weather so we could eat outside. We would go back.

Visited twice for light evening meal, very nice food, friendly staff and as part of larger party could reserve table. Only open on our visit period for food until about 6.30 pm or so, not a problem to us but at the end of the day not all items on the menu were available

We popped in here yesterday to grab some lunch and we were not disappointed! My kids love fish and chips so that’s what we all had. Shame the kids fish fingers are just Birds Eye, so opted for an adult portion to share between my 4 yr old and 18month old; they polished it off! It was really delicious! The fish was juicy and the chips were perfect! The staff were really lovely and friendly and we were made to feel v welcome. The view was stunning and it was a beautifully sunny day. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this café.

A lovely cafe with friendly staff, right on the beach with lovely views out to sea. You can see inside and have good views, or out on the veranda. Good choice of light meals, we had brunch which was delicious and they were flexible with the menu. My only complaint is that the toilet didn’t appear to have been cleaned for a while, we went in about 11am. But I would still recommend.

We had 4 paninis which cost some £34 so about £8.50 each.

super friendly staff excellent food quickly prepared Definitely worth another visit. what is wrong with glass for milkshakes? only a very careless customer would allow it to be broken and not immediately ask for it to be cleared up. i am sure that if you request a plastic cup your milk shake could be transfered to it. not so ecco friendly!!

Fabulous venue by the sea, lovely welcoming staff, nothing was too much trouble. Excellent food and choice of drinks, especially the gin! Certainly be back Next year.

Im local so we like to eat and support local businesses its a lovely little cafe but i dont approve of using pint glasses for milkshakes they have the beer logo on them and they do not look good for children to use the glass is thin.so not very health and safety i wont be taking the kids or my friends there this summer for a shake

No matter what the weather, this is a fantastic place to stop, whether for a quick (and very lovely) coffee or a bite to eat. Sharon, Lee and the rest of the staff are friendly and efficient. It is popular all year round and they manage to juggle serving and cooking and make time, wherever possible, to chat to the customers. The view is glorious on the terrace in the sun or inside when it's battering down. Cannot fault the staff, the food or the location.

Absolutely awful service from a woman called Sharon with no acknowledgment or smile at all whilst placing my order. She didn’t speak to me at all even when I asked for something, she turned her back got what I wanted and just placed it in front of me without saying anything. I got about 3 words out of her the whole time, it made me feel very uncomfortable.

We had a drink and snack here and then lunch the following day. Both times service was polite and friendly, and the food was lovely- much tastier than one of the restaurants we’d been to the previous day. We came here with our 5 month old daughter and the atmosphere was lovely for all. Good high chair for her to sit in and make friends too! Would really recommend it.

Friendly service, lovely strong coffee with beautiful views. We stopped here most mornings on our holiday to enjoy the fresh air and cappuccinos. Recommended.

Spotlessly clean, fantastic views, brilliant friendly and helpful staff. I haven't eaten here yet but the food looks lovely. The whole building is a delight with its by fold doors, for hot and sunny days! Love popping in for a crisp cool pint!

We went here for breakfast one morning, great little place right on the beach. We sat indoors but there are plenty of tables outside on the deck.

We live local and visit this cafe most weeks. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. They serve up lovely food which you can enjoy whilst taking in the beautiful sea view. They also allow in dogs which is great.

I’ve been in the new cafe four times ( I eat out often all over the island ) and the cafe is in a lovely setting but the staff are miserable and rude . I’ve said hello to who appears to be owner or manager and received zero response, the coffee was awful and not what I ordered , to prove she doesn’t listen she then preceded to give me a different drink than I asked for . Ive run a business on the island since 2002 and if was the same to my customers I would of folded years ago

After opening last year South East Beach Cafe has provided another excellent venue right on the beach, with seating both inside and out, and therefore able to offer facilities throughout most of the year.

visited many times with our dogs, who is very welcomed, enjoyed breakfast and lunch together with a lovely coffee or a 99 ice cream whilst taking in the views. The cafe is open all year whilst others are closed

Smashing little café. Excellent warm croissants and scones (not going to help my waistline though!) Lovely views across the beach and bay. Dog friendly is always a plus for us.

We make sure we visit this place every time we visit the iow so for the past few years. Used to be a small kiosk, which has been upgraded to a Seaview restaurant on the beach. The location is perfect, the service is polite, freindly and the food is Devine as you can see from the images. (definitely worth the price!). Shall be coming back here as long as we visit the iow.

Well we had a last stroll along the lovely Shanklin Esplanade in the milky morning sun and decided to eat before we sent of back to the mainland. We are so glad we did a delightful view from the cafe was followed by a traditional English breakfast of quality and quick service, no complaints at all and were set up for our journey home very good.

Called in today for lunch with two friends. Never been here before (don't often come to Shanklin!) but was really impressed. Great mug of tea (it is also licensed) - I'm picky about my tea - and lovely, fresh-cooked food. I had a cheese & onion toastie with a really fresh salad and lovely dressing. My friends had the fish finger bap and the soup (very generous portion!) and they were also very appreciative and impressed. Gorgeous view - straight out to sea, even on a very misty day. In the warm weather it must be amazing with the bi-fold doors open. Friendly and great service too!

Whether meeting up with friends or out for a stroll on your own this wonderfully situated cafe has the perfect position to enjoy fabulous views of the Island and eastern Solent. A really buzzy atmosphere at busy times yet somehow still relaxing. Great staff, friendly service and good food compliment this wonderful location.

I had my 50th birthday party here last night. What a fantastic evening. I can’t thank Betty, Lee, Sharon and Eden enough for everything they did. They arranged a buffet for me and the food was amazing. The service was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. Even the little extra touches, such as extra decorations to what I had given them and the lanterns and lighting outside on the decking area, were all done off their own backs. These little touches made me feel very special. I went back this morning for a big cooked breakfast which was equally as lovley. Sharon was there again ever cheerful even after a long night. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who wanted a lovley personal venue for a ‘do’ or to pop in and have a cuppa or eat the amazing food. Thank you all for everything .

I was appalled at the way some customer had a go at the young owner and manageress for having to wait for their coffee the ,young manageress apologised and gave her her money back, but woman just kept on. It was hectic in there some people just have no patience it's a lovely cafe and staff always so welcoming.

We have visited at least four times over the last 6 months and the food is always excellent. The seafood basket and gourmet burger are faves, but their fish and chips is fresh and gorgeous too....not at all greasy. Very very highly recommended.

Not much to say to be honest , I can’t review on the food or drink or anything like that as we Barely got through the door . At 3:30 we trooped in as part of a party of 6 for some hot drinks and some snacks as we needed to feed our baby , when the lady serving told us abruptly and rather rudely they closed in ten minutes . What place closes at 3:40 as standard ? And who on this island can afford to turn away local , potentially returning custom , in winter ? We went along the front to another cafe who couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming . They stayed open 10 mins past their times for us too .

Had a lovely spot of lunch here today and had a cappuccino. We both had just a snack, I had the ham salad sandwich and the filling was overflowing. The coffees were Best one I have had for some time, so good that i had anothervwith my bestie walking buddy and our doggy’s. Made very welcome, service was friendly. And they are staying open through the winter, and are dog friendly.

Having just parked up in Shanklin we noticed the new looking weather boarded café just next to us. Within seconds of reading the menu we were sold and our experience did not disappoint. One of my children fancied something slightly different to the advertised kiddies menu. We went inside to ask if this was a possibility and were told that this was not a problem at all. We sat outside in the covered area which was lovely and snug on a late October day. The food looked fabulous and tasted just as good; absolutely fresh and made to order. The seafood basket looked divine and the fish goujons were simply delicious. Great surroundings, fantastic, accommodating, friendly staff and great value for money. We will be back next time we are on the island with bells on. Highly recommended!

Just wanted a snack and spotted this place. Lovely clean and with great views, chose a Victoria sandwich which was a good portion and tasted good . Enjoyed the cup of tea as well. The meals coming out looked good too. Staff were friendly. Didn't realise that the cafe was new, it deserves to do well. Seems a cut above the usual beach cafe! There was a water bowl for dogs on the outside deck so everyone is catered for.

As we said on the way out - lovely place, lovely people, lovely food - what more can one say - so clean, great atmosphere, right on the beach - just do not miss - the paninis are gorgeous!!

We have been visiting this little gem since it first opened, stunning views, pleasant polite staff and excellent food. When so many other establishments seem to resent customers and struggle to raise a smile, it is nice to walk in and be made to feel welcome. Keep it up!!

We ordered 3 hot chocolates and 1/2 pint of coke, totalling £9.45. The young waiter was uninterested and seemed that she didn’t want to be there.

Discovered here on our last afternoon on holiday. Wished we'd found it sooner. Spent a lovely afternoon here whilst the family played on the beach.

Lovely little cafe in a prime spot on Shanklin beach. We stopped off for a light lunch (seafood basket - yum) with great coffee.

We love Shanklin and visit here at least once a year, and the South East Beach Cafe is a fabulous addition to the seafront. We visited for breakfast, and even though they don’t have a children’s breakfast menu they were very accommodating and made up a mini full English for of the bits my children like for a smaller price. I had the breakfast salad which was lovely, so nice I went back the next day and the husband ordered it! I don’t understand the negative comments, and the kitchen is semi open plan, and you can see the chef cooking away the fresh orders, you also see how clean the whole place is kept. We also visited in the evening, a lovely place to get a glass of wine while the children play on the beach safely just at the bottom of the steps.

Visited here during a recent visit to the area for tea and cakes . New cafe so very clean and tidy with friendly staff offering great value fayre . Nice homemade cakes

Our landlady recommended this little cafe at the end of the beach and we were glad she did. What used to be a wooden shack selling baguettes and a cup of tea has transformed into a modern family diner offering great breakfasts and a developing lunch and evening menu. It still does a great cup of tea and also has a licensed bar with draft beers, wines and spirits. We had the halloumi burgers and fries and the view in the evening is stunning. Service was great with lots of smiles.We shall be back next time.

A great new cafe with good food and a warm welcome from friendly staff in a chilled relaxed atmosphere. Open from early doors for a quiet coffee, croissants or something a little more.

We called into the cafe today having visited several times before. On this occasion we decided on the gourmet burgers with an extra of blue cheese. Safe to say they were fabulous - really nicely cooked burger on a brioche bun, “skin on” skinny fries, dressed salad and salsa. Everything was presented very nicely and the quality of the food was excellent. We were lucky enough to get a table with views out to sea - what’s not to like?

Really friendly staff. Excellent value food. Couldn’t have been more accommodating for a big group that arrived at short notice. Shanklin has needed somewhere like this along the esplanade for such a long time. Quality and recommended.

Great place, good food, reasonably prices. Only thing that let it down was the service, person behind the counter was eating or chewing, obviously tired, a lack of acknowledgment to customers, shuffling around the place. It lacked presentation, the impression was that they had to be there not they wanted to be there, there was no enthusiasm just going through the motions with one eye on the clock.

Smile! Smile! Smile! It makes such a difference and the poor woman who served my my latte couldn’t look more indifferent as she served me my cuppa.

We dropped by for breakfast, and had a very nice meal.

It was Monday morning and I was treating my son to a full English breakfast. We live in Shanklin but haven't visited this cafe before. The service was good even though we arrived just behind a large group of a dozen or more people. The breakfast was good quality food, if a little expensive but would go back again. It's in a great location right on the beach.

Supper well presented tasteful breakfast, with magnificent panoramic views of the sea, recommend going at height tide to get the full feel of being at sea. Double wheelchair access, with loads of space for wheelchairs and prams inside. Very friendly staff, serve tables in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

We stopped here for lunch while walking the coastal path. The sandwiches were generous and tasty and freshly made. Service was quick and the staff pleasant. We sat on the terrace above the beach which is a lovely spot. It was good to have a toilet in the cafe rather than using public ones on the beach.

I ate lunch here with my mum and two nephews (8 and 12) whilst on holiday. We had a great morning playing on Shanklin beach and eating lunch here afterwards was superb.

We called in fairly late as had been out walking on the Esplanade, they had live music on so I did not expect to get a seat, but was shown a couple of seats inside. We both had the burger and it was fantastic food the only downside is they did not have a desert menu.

While the location is lovely and there is a outdoor section to enjoy I must express concern over their prices.

About the only good thing is the view. Food very disappointing, seemed to come direct from the microwave and/or swimming in grease. One too many, there are plenty of nice cafes close by

A lovely little cafe situated right on the beach. Clean, fresh interior with outstanding views of the bay. We had the burger and fries and were very impressed, made even better as the cafe is licensed so we could enjoy a glass of wine. has a very modern, upbeat feel and we were very impressed with the service we received. We were told the cafe had not long opened and have to say well done to the owners!!!

Me and my partner had lunch here yesterday, I had a fish finger sandwhich it was delicious and my partner had a burger with cheese and bacon and skin on fries he said it was the best burger he had eaten on the island and after a bite for myself I have to say I totally agree

Brilliant all rounder beach cafe. Great for breakfast lunch and dinner. Went for drinks overlooking the sea one evening and then went again for cozy dinner for two. Not a massive menu, which makes choosing quicker I think, but has all the things you would want to eat by the beach. Went back again for coffee and cake before we headed home. Top marks also to the lovely lady serving called Sharon who really looked after us

Recently opened Cafe/Bar situated on Shanklin beach. Excellent food - we have eaten here several times for breakfast, lunch and evening meal and the food is consistently good and well presented. I can particularly recommend the burgers. A variety of seating options, inside, outside deck or table on the beach. Friendly and efficient staff, amazing views and great food at very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend a visit.

Shared a seafood platter between two, it was really big and meant for one with a huge pot of tea! Really cheap and good value for money. Lovely friendly staff and it is right on the promenade overlooking the sea. Varied menu all very reasonably priced. Licensed if you fancy a glass of wine or two with your meal.

This Café / Bar has only been open a few weeks but does not disappoint.
