Long time since I've been to the Sun Inn. but on seeing that they were now under new leadership we went over for Lunch and had a really good meal. Choice was good, quality great, price reasonable and an excellent time was had. To be recommended.

Recently reopened with new owners, this beautiful thatched country pub has retained its charm which is complemented by a warm welcome from the helpful staff and excellent food. We booked Sunday lunch for a large table some with different dietary requirements, which were readily accommodated. They looked after us like we were royalty!

We had heard good things about the The Sun Inn at Hulverstone and we certainly weren't disappointed. There is a reasonably sized car park with one disabled space. The car park is gravelled, which can be a little tricky with a wheelchair but it is worth the effort. The main entrance is reached by a concrete path, which is very accessible although on a slight slope. Once inside, there are accessible tables in the dining room on the right, along with a disabled toilet. I would say on booking if you have mobility issues as the other dining areas and bar are accessed via one step. The main dining rooms have lovely large windows with great views across the fields. We went for Sunday lunch and it certainly didn't disappoint. We had a choice of Beef, Pork, Turkey or vegetarian option. They all came with roast potatoes, broccoli, red cabbage, peas, carrots, cauliflower cheese, sage and onion stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. You could have a small or large. We went for large and at £13.95 each it was a big portion and great value for money. We both said it was the best roast we had for a long time and the closest to home cooked. It was delicious 😋. We followed this with the Hot Chocolate Fudge Sundae and oh my goodness, the brownies in this were the best, so fudgey and sticky, just great! Roasts seemed to be their main option on a Sunday. There was a light bite menu and children's menu also, but the roasts were the main options of the day. They had live music playing in the bar, which was great as you could hear it but it didn't stop us from talking comfortable in the dining area. We certainly recommend The Sun Inn and we will definitely be going back.

We arrived for lunch today on the ‘off chance’ having not booked. We were welcomed in and offered a table. Then we were told: ‘by the way’ you can only have soft drinks … assume that’s ok because of our licence…’ ok fair enough but this was my first walk/pub lunch after nine months of post knee operation recuperation and the point of going to a pub was to have a celebratory drink as well as have something to eat. There was a look of surprise that we didn’t want just a ‘soft drink. Then my husband was offered the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket which weirdly would then enable him to help himself to a glass of beer from a barrel. He readily agreed but I was sensing that my much anticipated glass of wine may not be so straight forward and tried to extricate myself - politely - in order to go elsewhere. My husband asked if the raffle tickets would encompass a glass of wine to which the answer was that that would be more complicated.. At that point in exasperation I said that We were goi g elsewhere but we would return when their licence was sorted. All of that would have been put aside and I would have been happy to return in the future. However leaving my husband bringing up the rear the ‘delightful’ female member of staff commented to my husband words to the effect of ‘she’s a moody one … good luck with that…’ and patted him on the back! Needless to say we will lot be returning and nor will I be recommending my holiday cottage guests to go there.

We were regulars to the Sun for years, but as I posted we had a bad experiance a couple of years ago and did not go back. However, all has changed so we were told, so we went for lunch last week. I am pleased to say that it was very good. Real ale at a great price, food was tasty and good quality. Staff friendly and efficient. Nice to see a real fire again, to make things cosy. Anyone who has read my previous posts will know I do not hold back if things are poor, and say when things are good. I would recommend giving the Sun a go, as things there seem to be going in the right direction. So much so that we are back for lunch today!

A super country pub with sheep in a nearby field & the sea on the horizon! Deceptively big, the menu was standard pub food but excellent price point. Two burgers were ordered & there was a fairly long wait it has to be said, but wow, the burgers were HUGE! Home-made with ground beef they were probably one of the best I’ve had in a long time. It’s clear a fair bit of money had been spent on crockery etc. Service was very friendly, but I got the feeling it was a new team & there’s work to be done to make it that bit smoother - but the potential for this pub is phenomenal. If you’re looking for a traditional pub, friendly & comfortable The Sun at Hulverstone is the place to go.

Nestled in the charming countryside near Newport, The Sun Inn offers a delightful experience, perfect for a relaxing Sunday outing. We visited for a Sunday roast and were thoroughly impressed. Opting for the turkey, we found it to be perfectly cooked, succulent, and complemented by all the classic trimmings—crispy roast potatoes, rich gravy, and a variety of seasonal vegetables. It was exactly what we needed for a comforting Sunday meal. The kids' menu was also a highlight, offering a good selection that catered well to our little ones. It’s always a relief when you find a place that keeps the kids happy and satisfied. The staff at The Sun Inn were incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming atmosphere of the pub. Excellent all round at this price point. Beautifully located and presented - a quintessential country pub with wonderful coastal views. Good value pub food with some ecclectic choices, such as Isle of Wight lamb kofta - decent portions and friendly staff make for a great overall experience. Recommended.

We were welcomed by the lovely Elisha having stopped off for a drink on our walk. There was really good singer playing great 70’s and 80’s songs and we therefore decided to stay for lunch. Whilst it was only snacks it was tasty and all...

Nice atmosphere in the bar area. Standard pub grub nicely served. Pleasant staff. Dog friendly. All spoilt by the most intrusive music, the sort that goes right through you.

One of the best pubs I have ever been to. Amazing location, lovely views, great food, great staff, easy parking, local ale .. I could go on but it’s easier just to say 10/10.

Lovely country pub with a coal fire. Very dog friendly, staff brought a water bowl for our dog. Food was OK, live music on Fridays, a good size car park and gardens with a nice outlook over fields.

As someone who live to the rear of this bar I and many others have complained about the excessive noise, anti social behaviour, drunks flowing into the rear car park as if it part of the bar's property . They also use the car to park their vehicles as if their own yard without paying for a ticket. The children's slide and climbing area (if approved) is monitored from a distance! With all the anti social behaviour around this area the owners do nothing to help improve it; especially the noise polution this bar and it's clientele create! The "new. Management " promotion is a joke! Just the same anti social crowd! No respect for any neighbour even after the recent "noise complaint" raised with the council! Close the place as it should not have rear access / facilities within a residential area! Gives Ventnor a bad image!

A wide range of beautifully prepared ingredients made a most delightful lunch. All the staff were hospitable and very helpful. The salad looked and tasted very fresh, no brown curled up lettuce here! All the cakes were homemade and were competitively priced. A very good place to visit.
