Lovely old inn, watched a beautiful sunset and the food was delicious.

Lovely meal again as usual. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful.

A perfect location with a sea view. Plenty of outside seating, and beautiful indoor areas too. Nice selection of light lunches, and very nicely prepared. Staff were welcoming and helpful. One member of staff, though trying hard, seemed to turn each conversation in a downbeat direction, which was such a shame. Hopefully we managed to cheer her up a bit. I wonder it it's worth staff checking the table sunshades in the outside area before customers arrive? People were resorting to do-it-yourself adjustments which is not always the best of plans...

Good food and a lovely friendly pub

Lovely pub in a picturesque location. Food and service were good. Nice range of dishes on the menu. Would definitely consider returning next time we're around.

I went out for dinner tonight with four other friends. The Sun Inn really impressed me. The staff took a great deal of time to make sure we enjoyed our meal, impeccable service, friendly and highly professional. The mussels starter was delicious, I would highly recommend. We enjoyed all the meals and starters. Too full for pudding. I would definitely return here and highly recommend it. I would also like to add the decor was spot on and appreciated the open doors onto the garden area. This was the most enjoyable meal that I have had on the Isle of Wight.

Great place nice staff and food

Dropped into this place for a drink and decided to have some dinner. Staff friendly, but the food was expensive and underwhelming - to top it off we were both very unwell overnight and the next day unfortunately.

Food was brilliant, service also wonderful excluding what I can only assume was the manager wearing non uniform, breasts completely on show and downright rude to customers and staff very openly. Very disappointing. The views are lovely though and the food was brilliant as stated before.

I had a wonderful time at this charming country pub! The staff was warm and welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious. The added bonus of a small play area for kids kept the little ones entertained, making it a great spot for families. A perfect blend of good food, friendly service, and a kid-friendly atmosphere. Great family meal at the Sun Inn. They catered really well for some challenging food allergies, the food was excellent and the portions were huge. The dining room is bright and airy with amazing views to the sea. Well recommended!

Nice pub, friendly staff. Didn't feel rushed. Good vegan options. Small issue with the crumble which came out cold, however it was sorted quickly and a full replacement and taken off the bill without asking. Good customer service. Vegan burger was nice, and the other meat eating guests liked their food too.

Been looking forward to dining here for over a year but, on arrival was very disappointed. Bar service left much to be desired. The bartender was struggling with unexpected multi customers but sadly also lacked customer service skills. Delay in being seated, despite table prebooked buuut, once seated can't fault the service at all. The waiter was friendly and attentive and the food was exemplary. Can't fault quality or presentation. Will certainly eat there again.

Excellent all round. Very friendly and efficient staff, a good selection of well kept real ales and lovely food. I had mackerel pate to start, followed by mussels and then homemade crumble.

Stopped here for dinner on a rainy afternoon. It was very busy but the staff still managed to find us a table. The food was amazing and large portions. Would definitely recommend.

We stopped off to see how the food was, and wasn't disappointed. This is not a gastro pub, but serves good honest pub food. The service was excellent, but the place was quiet when we arrived. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Very busy on the Sunday. Table was booked. Inside or outside dining. Lovely amount of space between tables for private conversations. Menu good. My veggie/plant burger tasty & chips crispy. Dessert choices varied & tasty. My absolute favourite part of our visit was the brilliant guitarist/singer who was performing- in the background sadly-& woefully underappreciated by most diners! He should have taken centre stage as he made this a wonderful lunch time experience. (2nd July-my mums' 86th birthday lunch!)

Lovely pub, good selection of beers, nice menu and lovely staff, we were in a large group of cyclists riding round the island but they looked after us all very well, definitely go back.

Tried this pub for a lunch. 3 three adults and a toddler. The toddler meal of a burger, chips and baked beans was not good. Returned the toddlers chips as so much salt applied, and fair to them they did replace. The toddler burger was over cooked, very thin and not nice. The baked beans had been so over heated in a microwave. Adults meals were ok. Once again salt had been apples to the chi-s in the kitchen. Have had better for the same price. The food was hot.

Always stop here when over in the isle of wight lovely place and great views while having a drink

First class lunch -service was warm, friendly and super efficient. They welcomed our dog and gave us a lovely table even though it was Sunday lunch time and we hadn’t booked. We had a chicken curry and the roast belly of pork both of which were delicious. Highly recommend the Sun Inn

After some time we thought we would re-try the sun..... worst mistake. No improvement whatsoever, the presumed manager was rude yet again. We just don't understand how what was once a very well run pub with friendly staff and good food, has gone so down hill. Very sad to watch.

Walked to The Sun at Hulverstone through beautiful countryside. Arrived early, pre official opening time, but staff welcomed us warmly. Enjoyed a delicious, well cooked, Roast Sunday lunch of mixed roast meats, all tender and tasty with good selection of accompaning vegetables. The service was efficient and very friendly. Very much enjoyed listening to a young woman sing solo. Just the right vide for a relaxing sunny afternoon. Didn't have a beer as still had a long walk back along the Costal path but appeared to have a good selection so we will be back.

We booked Sunday lunch here as friends had recommended it. We chose the lamb and were really disappointed. The lamb was reheated and the vegetables cold. Mediocre would be complementary. I would be embarrassed to serve that to anyone. The chef should be ashamed of sending it out of the kitchen. We left after a single course. Having provided feedback we were given a discount but we will not be returning. The live music was good but I needed good food as well!!!

Came here for a light lunch. Both ordered the lamb koftas & they were just right! Our meals were missing the hummus part of the dish, but I hadn't noticed by the time we were checked back on & didn't think to mention it, sure it would've been rectified if I had. Lovely beer garden, a solid favourite pub.

Thank you so much to Sammy and Morgan for helping me to surprise my sister on her birthday. When I unexpectedly couldn't join the family for her birthday lunch, I called The Sun Inn and asked if there was anyway they could help with a (very) last minute surprise. Sammy was amazing, pulling out all the stops to help. My sister was surprised with a delicious cheesecake with a happy birthday message and prosecco! Thank you ever so much Sammy and Morgan for taking the time to make both mine and my sister's day. You're wonderful!

Excellent all round at this price point. Beautifully located and presented - a quintessential country pub with wonderful coastal views. Good value pub food with some ecclectic choices, such as Isle of Wight lamb kofta - decent portions and friendly staff make for a great overall experience. Recommended.

Lovely traditional pub, great food & lovely staff

Visited for a wedding reception, where we had exclusive use of the premises. It's a beautiful location with stunning views of the fields as they fall down to the sea. The staff did an amazing job to feed 80-odd guests in a timely and efficient manner. The food was superb; hot, tasty and generously portioned. Drink prices were reasonable, parking was ample and when we finally left after midnight, everybody was full of praise for the pub and its staff.

Ate early evening here on Good Friday and it was wonderful. The food was some of the best we e eaten in the island. We had the mushroom soup with thyme which was beyond delicious. My husband had the ( very large and well stocked) bouillabaisse which he loved. For main we had the pie and the slow roasted pork belly. Both were very tasty. The service was very good , the staff were all very friendly and the views across to the sea and the sunset topped it all off. We didn’t have room for dessert but will definitely be back.

Me and my husband have been many times over the years and the last 3 or 4 times haven’t been great, the food used to be sooo nice now so basic, when we yesterday my husband asked for a Guinness and clearly the bar person had no idea how to pour one it was in one pour, the board by the bar had bad spelling it was was a sham, won’t be going again or recommending till it changes hands again which won’t be long 😩

I always check reviews. That you are reading this suggests that you do too. It was on reading reviews that I found The Sun Inn last year and have been waiting for it to reopen since it closed shortly afterwards. My wife and I called in an hour too early to be served, frankly we were passing by and dropped in on the 'off chance'. Amazingly, Sam, the manager, consulted the chef and asked whether he would be prepared to serve earlier. We hadn't expected, nor asked for that, but it demonstrated a surprisingly high level of 'customer service' to us. Just added to the menu was Sea Bass, it is not uncommon on pub menus. It was served with samphire, asparagus, baby vine tomatoes (seared on the vine) and pressed and buttered new potatoes. This was an uncommon blend of sympathetic ingredients and was, quite frankly, quite delicious. I understand that this is likely to stay on the menu in future and recommend it highly. Service was provided at the bar by the delightful Sam and Rachel. Well done ladies and please 'give my compliments to the chef'!

Visited Saturday lunchtime (18/3) nice welcome by the landlady Sam and her staff. Nice food promptly served and excellent value- Nice venue in every respect inside and seating outside, with lovely views over the fields down to the sea. large car park with easy access

We returned to this lovely old pub restaurant after just reopening from a total refurbishment. Im glad to say it was really good food served with a lot of thought, almost all locally sourced. Must find time to return.

Really enjoyed this Venus food was very good well cooked hot and portions plentiful staff were great greeted with a smile and helpful.also did not have to wait long for food this venue is a must place to visit and enjoy a great meal.

Enjoyed our visit. Staff very friendly and attentive. Menu was a little lacking for our tastes and if it hadn't been for the special liver and bacon my wife would really have struggled. However we don't consider this an issue. These days eateries cannot be expected to provide the variety that was once the norm.

We came to the sun on thursday (01/09) and we had such an enjoyable visit. The young man on the door explained that they were a few staff members down including the manager, but to be honest they were doing perfectly fine just them two....

Good selection of beers and spirits, great location, food looked good, we only tasted the chips but they were very good.

Took friends for what we thought was going to be a great food with good service as that is what we normally receive. Unfortunately the service was very much lacking and from what happened it was definitely from the top down!! Drinks order was wrong, waited over 35mins for a jug of water…. Yes all the other drinks came out, G&T various pints and soft drinks and we waited for a jug of water! When I questioned it and asked where it was I got a short sharp it’s coming!! Said we were then ready to order food and told we had to wait as there were other tables to serve! Food was ok apart from one meal, the kofta’s very hard and dry. I would say avoid, we will be next time, much better places to visit on the beautiful island.

What a great find! Delicious food, even their simple ciabattas for lunch. Restaurant is well designed, spacious and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly - definitely worth the 7% service charge added to all bills.
