Visited 18.11.23 am for coffee and something to eat Requested a cheese omelette which the chef agreed to make (after advising me it’s too early for omelettes as this is classed as lunch item) Husband requested a prawn baguette ( but not too early to have as breakfast item) Omelette was unfortunately dreadful! The actual omelette was like thin rubber but the cheese was almost an inch thick, I could not finish it They did not have any prawns so my husband settled for a chicken and mayonnaise baguette . The baguette was just a mayonnaise baguette with a few small chunks of chicken so he left half of it. We were so disappointed as this as always been a wonderful cafe. Total waste of £26.00

We chose breakfast here as we'd read some good reviews, and the weather was nice so we wanted a view across the water. When you go in it's not the most welcoming of places, the young lad on the till was absolutely devoid of any personality, which came off as really rude. The young lady who made the coffee was polite, as was the lad who brought the breakfast out. We sat by the window for the view, but quickly realised this was quite a cold place to sit! Breakfast was nice, but wasn't very warm which was a shame. The vegetarian sausages were some of the best I've had, so that was a bonus! All in all a disappointing visit though.

Returned to the cafe after some time away to find it’s not improved. Staff wearing their masks as chinstraps. Breakfast delivered minus cutlery, had to ask. Also had to ask for butter for toast. No napkins provided. Really disappointing. There are better options at Gunwharf.

Four of us visited here, one disabled and I am still reeling with shock of our treatment. There were three women working, Pauline stomped us to us whilst we waited to be seated, no good morning or greeting and then she said we couldn't tie our very well behave dog up so I said my husband would be with him which she replied threateningly 'they'll be moved on', after deciding this certainly wasn't the venue for us and that my husband would have been quite at liberty to sit on the free benches facing the sea without 'being moved on', I went and asked the front of house woman her name where the older lady behind the food counter said 'they are really starting to p*** me off now', my hearing is very acute but quite unbelievable behaviour, I have written to management concerning this and hope they the women concerned haven't been furlough as it would be most inappropriate of tax payers money to be supporting attitudes of workers like these. Very disappointing.

Visited Portsmouth for the first time during half term with my family. We decided to stop for a short break at the Waterfront Cafe as it was a wet and windy day. We placed our order with Savannah. Our drinks and scones came in good time. No tea cake arrived which I had ordered. We were asked to pay for our food as soon as the drinks arrived and noticed that the tea cake was not ordered but decided not to query this. Having waited 25 minutes for my daughter’s cheese and ham toastie on white bread I went up to the desk to query where the last part of the order was. It seems that it was not placed. The order was placed again and we were told it would take a further 10 minutes. The order did arrive after 10 minutes but no note had been made on our original order that the bread needed to be white. My daughter can’t eat brown bread. The toastie was on brown bread and a portion of chips was delivered which we hadn’t ordered. A further 10 minutes later the correct toastie on white bread arrived. No offer of a refund for the toastie was offered even though it took 45 minutes to arrive.

Came in for breakfast early on Monday morning. Great location over looking the harbour. The menu is quite restricted. My full breakfast was ok for the price. My wife wanted more of a vegaterian option that wasn’t on the menu, although I did hear the waitress tell another table that option is available but not on the menu. Don’t now why. One good point is they serve decaf tea, which is unusual. All in all, adequate and average.

Well what can I say, there were only two other couples total 4 people) in the café, both had been served a little while ago as they had finished their meals. Were were told when we came in find a table as we will be doing table service today. I scanned in NHS app, did the hand gel bit told to find a table. So far so good, sat down at table and waited and waited, and waited, one staff member fussing in the serving area, the waitress who showed us in eventually disappeared out the back we think to talk to her friend. We waited, and waited etc. etc. etc we even tried to get the attention of the waitress still fussing in the serving area really not doing much at all, and even she went out the back, we waited for a further period, even the other two couples kept looking, so after some time we simply walked out and went to a café that wanted our custom. We would not have minded if they were busy, but they were not. Absolute disgusting service (well if we had any). At a time where restaurants etc need the custom this Waterfront café obviously does not. We go to Portsmouth a lot, needless to say we will not be using the Waterfront Café ever again, we will also tell our family and friends to avoid.

We ate lunch here on Sunday 13th September. It’s adequate but no more, really. Such a shame as it’s a prime location! There’s no decor and no atmosphere. The food’s fine, but all let down by the lady taking orders who had her face mask under her chin, ripped latex gloves and an annoying habit of scratching her nose before handling everything in sight. Really?? We won’t go back.

Absolute rip off!!! It’s one thing to provide poor food and a ridiculous cost; but when it’s also served by rude and unhelpful staff, that just takes the p*ss! Two tasteless toastier, re-cooked chips, lattes and two cokes ...... £35!!!! Food is dire, the service is awful and it’s very expensive. The ONLY thing going for it, is the view. We stopped here when in Portsmouth for lunch after a visit to the spinnaker. The menu sounded hopeful and the views were good. I ordered a prawn baguette, my boys the tuna and my wife a cream tea. My prawn was the best tasting of the lot as this was not too bad. However the bread on the other sandwiches was stale and the scone was soft like a bread roll rather than a scone. All in all I don't think any of us enjoyed our meal here and most of the food was left. The only positive was the slush puppies on offer were good for the boys.

Visited in August whilst waiting for ferry to France. Glasses for water were dirty (finger marks and traces of food), toasted cheese sandwich was not toasted just damp, 2 members of counter staff were rude to the point of insulting. No tables were being cleared on the terrace - the waterfront - so customers were clearing food themselves. Toilets had not been cleaned since previous evening (it was 2pm) according to sheet on door and state of toilet bowl. Will never go there again.

Me quejé.

The best full english we've had for a long time. Obviously freshly cooked, generous and hot. And the sausages were cooked well too, not left pink in the middle as seems to be the fashion in some places these days. Has inside or outside options, went inside and no one gave directions. Eventually sat at a table and after a lengthy delay I had to ask to be served twice. Eventually settled on Cobra cider, bruschetta and 8 Oz rump steak with peppercorn sauce. The meal was perfect, steak was tasty and cut well with flavorsome sauce, thick cut chips and fresh salad. Cobra cider was especially nice and my favourite now, I must say I have drunk dozen of ciders and this is definitely my number 1. Shame about the waitress which spoiled what could have been a better night. Views are definitely great on the water. Parking via meter with few available. Toilets were very clean and accessible.

Having stopped for a light lunch we chose baguettes. My baguette was the cheese and coleslaw option without fries. They wish to consider rephrasing the baguette to ‘coleslaw and cheese’ as the baguette was basically all coleslaw with a sprinkle of grated cheese on top. Add the bland , dry salad and you are left with a very disappointing lunch. I’m quite sure that at the prices charged they can afford a drizzle of dressing on the salad.

No volveremos

Stopped in for breakfast one morning. Location is good with great views across the water. Menu choice had reasonable options. Staff were friendly and welcoming. However the food when received was disappointing. I opted for the the Eggs Benedict, which when arrived the eggs had been completely overcooked and the yolks were solid. There was very little Hollandaise sauce and what was there had started to form a skin. Bacon was completely overcooked. My partners meal was equally disapointing, with more vastly overcooked bacon, bubble and squeak portions which appeared to have been deep fried and had picked up an "off" taste from the cooking oil. The accompanying vine tomatoes were however tasty. Accompanying drinks (orange and coffee) were nice.

. . . no volveré

Wasnt sure where to go and eat so stumbled across the cafe situated under the spinnaker tower. They serve brekkie and brunch style food and I opted for the bacon and sausage sandwich.

Ordered two full English, one with an extra egg, but it came with two eggs as standard so that was a bonus. But when the breckie arrived it had two hash browns, two rashers, two mushrooms, beans, tomato, sausage, and four butters with two half toasts; quite a feast. Coffee was extra but a nice flavor Americano. For this view and this location, it was good value at £21. If I can add a constructive criticism; the men's waistcoat uniforms don't work if the shirt underneath is baggy and hanging out from under, specially if the guys stand around with hands in pockets! If it's a professional image you seek, sort this out. Service was efficient in a cafeteria kind of way.

Hot coffee. Scones really nice. Lemon cake could be more lemony. Super view of the boats. Not cheap but good for a treat :)

Excellent place to stop and have a coffee before heading back into town. Drinks tasted excellent and the service was attentive. Toilets were clean.

The waterfront is in a lovely position and serves good coffee but we tried the breakfast today and distinctly underwhelmed. £8 for badly poached stone cold eggs, dry bacon, cold toast, sausage best bit. Asked for a swap of ingredients which was ignored. We waied quite a while too. Front staff friendly but let down by the kitchen.

Stopped here for lunch on a busy 'half-term' Thursday - more than satisfied with my large cappuccino, generous helping of chips and slow roasted pork with bbq sauce baguette all of which came to £11.95...very reasonable considering the location!Despite it being very busy, with lots of families and couples stopping for lunch during their half-term GunWharf shopping trip, the staff were efficient and courteous, and I didn't have to wait long for my toasted baguette to be brought to my table - so no complaints about the service and the food! Not an issue, just an observation, they ask you to give your table number when ordering hot food - which is difficult if, like me, you are dining solo and can't easily nab a table before queuing up (leaving a rucksack unattended on a table is perhaps not a good thing to do!).

We have lived in Southsea for 20 months and have tried most of the cafes and restaurants. This place has been the best so far. Had eggs Benedict, pancakes & maple syrup, gluten free chocolate & walnut cake with 2 lattes. Came to just over £21. Amazing food, great value, friendly staff and awesome views. Having read other reviews most of the criticism has been about service. To be fair it wasn't packed out today but when it is I could imagine they get a bit overwhelmed. Cannot wait to return

After not visiting for many months due to poor service and food quality we decided to try again. Well, I really can say well done for the service improvements made. Much more alert and attentive staff with polite and customer focused attitudes. Still being on the hunt for the best Eggs Benedict in Portsmouth we ordered two at £6 each, £1 more expensive than the average price we have found locally. The dishes came out together but were nearly cold. The eggs were hard poached and over cooked and the hollandaise sauce was extremely thin and almost non existent. What sauce there was tasted mainly of vinegar and nothing else. The bacon was very fatty but the rocket and muffin were both fresh. I had been in the day before with a friend and had the same. On that occasion the dish was hotter with nice runny yolks and a better, but still too runny and watery sauce. Different Chef I wonder? This highlights inconsistencies with this dish and a couple of issues to correct. We really hope they do improve this as they also serve the best hot chocolate around (in our opinion). Great improvement guys, well done. Please work on the Eggs Benedict and you’ll have several more regulars from this end! :-)

We came here for on our last morning of our weekend visit. Breakfast was included in our hotel stay but wasn't good. This place was FABULOUS. We had Eggs Benedict and the eggs were cooked to perfection and bacon thick and cooked well. Hot and quick. Wished we had eaten here every morning. Staff very friendly, clean and a good price. A to top it off the views were fab too.

If you don't want bread with your meal the choice is very limited. We waited 35 minutes for a salad and a toasted sandwich. When it finally came the bread was not toasted. This was our anniversary treat so very disappointing.

It was really busy and I was a bit reluctant to order as there was such a queue. Anyway , order taken and the avocado and chicken salad and drinks were promptly served. A tasty treat on a summers day.

There were 15 of us for breakfast and plenty of space for us all to sit together at the back! Food came out quick and was very nice all round! Free refills on hot drinks which was excellent! All plates went back to the kitchen empty!

Went back to this Casino after 3 years , been a member for 40 + years for most of those years we ate in the restaurant every week , will never go back , not one table in restaurant had a table cloth , Knives & forks were put down on one end of table wrapped in paper napkins, service was slow and anything any good on the menu that was not a burger in a bun was not available , With no dress code the Grosvenor Casinos appear now to cater for students , long gone are the days of silver service , still I suppose it is easier to relieve students of their grant money.

We were given a choice of tables and picked one near the back. Quite slow to take our order (comped us a beer) which was for warm breads to start and two pan-fried chicken with hassleback potatoes and tarragon jus. The food was very tasty. Service from our waitress was good, but the two waitresses were doing all the work, whilst the three waiters did a lot of walking around looking busy. When we asked for the bill, it was explained that they had a problem with their system and couldn’t charge to the room. I explained that we had a F&B credit so needed to charge to the room. Took about 20 minutes to resolve, but got there eventually! £76 including 12.5% service charge.
