We were given a choice of tables and picked one near the back. Quite slow to take our order (comped us a beer) which was for warm breads to start and two pan-fried chicken with hassleback potatoes and tarragon jus. The food was very tasty. Service from our waitress was good, but the two waitresses were doing all the work, whilst the three waiters did a lot of walking around looking busy. When we asked for the bill, it was explained that they had a problem with their system and couldn’t charge to the room. I explained that we had a F&B credit so needed to charge to the room. Took about 20 minutes to resolve, but got there eventually! £76 including 12.5% service charge.

Came without any preconceived ideas as it was near to where we were visiting. We ate in the restaurant as non-residents. Served by Silviu who was professional and friendly throughout. Meal was pricey but above expectation. We had been concerned because the menu isn’t online. But the menu was varied and we had a really nice dinner. My husband had the beetroot and tomato bruschetta, I had the halloumi with dhukka, we both had the lamb rump. Very tasty. If we’re ever in the area again we would happily come back.

We were let down at the restaurant we had booked, so came here, they seated us took our drinks order, a bottle of excellent red wine, a beer for me and gin and tonic for my other half. Good menu, we both went for the sirloin steak, mine blue and the other medium rare. Excellent CV choice of sauces if you want, we both had the calamari to start. All beautifully cooked. Excellent and friendly staff. Good choice we said

I’m writing this review because I read some of the most recent reviews and I think that they bare no resemblance anymore to the quality described in the mediocre reviews. Instead, I found a fantastic steak with incredible peppercorn sauce. The pour on my Malbec was very generous. The steak was so good that I came back the next night and got it again. This time (in contrast to a previous review in August 2022), the chef came out as he thought he might have over cooked my medium rare request. He told me that if it wasn’t in my liking, you’ve been more than happy to take it back and make another one or give a discount whatever I prefer. I cut into it and it was perfect. The look on his face was one of genuine concern and care about his craft. I was very very impressed. After eating, at some of the other restaurants in the area, I would say, even if I wasn’t a guest at Marriot, I would take my significant other here for date night. I also would be reminisce if I did not mention how bountiful the spread is for the morning breakfast. It is reasonably discounted for Marriott guests, but for someone who eats quite a bit even if I did not get a discount, it would be worth it. The staff was incredibly friendly and very quick to clean and reset the tables.

Watch out for fluff and dirt falling from the ceiling the groveis in the ceiling are wide and not cleaned and can easily fall into your food or drinks

Table for 6 booked for Father’s Day in restaurant . What a disaster ! To start with the place was empty, and we were soon to find out why. We were only offered a choice of 2 tables at the bar area, with a lunchtime snack menu of sandwiches/burgers /fish and chips etc.. (Not a La carte that we had booked). The staff waited until we had purchased 2 bottles of wine £30 each , which were just plonked on the bar, unopened and no ice bucket, and beers before the eventually informed us that there were several things off the menu. First being fry’s but the did have dauphinois potato’s. Who EVER heard of burger and dauphinois. With a Lidl opposite and a McDonalds next door I asked why the chef couldnt go and buy some. He clearly had nothing else to do. But that idea was rejected. So, I got on the phone and prezzo in port Solent kindly squeezed us in Which was extremely good of them. We were informed by Marriott that the a la carte restaurant is open from 6pm, so why take our booking ?? There’s clearly a very serious management problem here which needs addressing. If they continue like this they will end up closing down and do everyone a favour.

We booked 6 of us in for dinner the night before the Great South Run. We booked for ease as we were staying at the Marriott and thought nice dinner, early sitting and early night. Started well friendly staff nice surroundings but then went downhill. We got some bread and butter eventually after a wait to keep the kids going. Thank goodness we did 50min wait for mains! No complicated dietary requirements and easy menu to produce especially when it wasn’t even busy. Food was Ok steaks not cooked to requests and one was so grisly. Disappointing when we were all hungry and wanted a swift dinner. Ordered kids desserts 20 mins for ice cream and a brownie! Staff when we raised our issues then suddenly turned from friendly to cold. Items off the bill were offered but still turned into an expensive late night and tired kids!

I feel so strongly that something needs to be done that I’m writing a review in the hope the restaurant addresses it. I booked my family into the Portsmouth Marriott as we were travelling for my grandmother’s funeral. I chose this hotel as a long standing customer of the Marriott group. We had a long 3.5hr drive and arrived at the restaurant on the off chance we could get something to eat. We were waiting at the entrance to the restaurant and had not uttered a word when one of the waitresses shouted at my father that they were closed. We only wanted to know if we could get something to eat there was absolutely no reason to treat my father in that way. We were completely shocked and I have to say it questions my belief in Marriott as a quality brand. It’s a shame the other members of staff were very helpful and polite. I really hope something is done about that individual and I will be having a discussion with the management to that effect when we check out.

Here for a hotel stay so some breakfasts and one evening meal. An early start meant an early breakfast but immediately show to clear tables, an excellent buffet choice of hot and cold dishes. Chef was on hand to cook eggs to our liking and the best omelettes I have had for a long time.

Very warm and friendly staff. We had an anniversary dinner here while staying at the hotel and they gave us a private booth, complementary wine and the service was just excellent. Food was great also and on time

We stayed overnight at the Marriott and had breakfast at the Cast Iron Bar & Grill. Being Boxing Day, it was very quite at 8:45am. There was no staff to be seen. Just us and 2 other tables. There was a wide selection of breakfast items (cooked and continental). The waiter took our hot drink preferences and bought it to us. The quality of the breakfast was good. We had a round alcove which was comfortable. Saying that, it wasn;t convenient for breakfast as everytime the person in the middle wanted to go out, the one sitting on the outside had to move. For lunch or dinner then it would be fine. The decor and ambience were both nice. Will definately come back to try dinner. The set menu looks ok and reasonable in price.

Second time we have visited this year. Service was not good. 1 - booked table for dinner, went at allotted time, staff member couldn’t find reservation made an issue of saying reservation not there even though plenty of tables were free. 2 - took quite along time to order drinks etc. 3 - finally took order, starter arrived and it was the wrong one so sent back. 4 - took nearly an hour to serve main course from point of order. 5 - ordered burger with bacon, came with no bacon! 6 - bill arrived and extra meal added on that was not ours. They add a 12.5% service charge but I expressed our disappointment with the manager and he removed the charge. I do feel that the gratuity is for good service and should not be added automatically.

Lovely bar and restaurant, food always nice, bar service is a bit slow. Particularly last night and this Sunday lunchtime. Always enough staff for the amount of customers but they're all a bit 'disinterested' and not very smiley, it's painful to watch. They all need a bit of a shake up to wake them up. Not the service you would expect from such a top notch venue. All the other staff you meet there are lovely and can't do enough for you, shame the bar staff let the place down.

The hotel is comfortable to stay in, but at dinner the wait for food can be very long. Oh my goodness, three quarters of an hour to get a bowl of soup! My advice is, if you dine here, don't expect to fit in anything else the same evening.

Stayed at the hotel 2 nights and had breakfast both days. Very good selection as well as Buffet options. Dinner once and it was very good. We had Chicken & Rocket Salad and Bone-in Pork Chops with Greens and Fries. Staff were friendly and attentive.

La chuleta de cerdo de mi marido estaba bien, pero mi pescado debió haber estado esperando que el cerdo se pusiera al día, ya que estaba muy seco y las verduras estaban casi frías. Los camareros y el personal de la cocina no parecen estar conectados, el personal estaba en grupos o en parejas mientras los clientes esperaban. . . y esperó, una pareja australiana en la siguiente mesa se horrorizó por el servicio. Individualmente el personal era muy agradable, totalmente desorganizado. Una copa de Sauvignon Blanc cuesta 12.

had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Breakfast very chaotic on Sunday. Food not replenished quickly and staff run off their feet. Monday was much better. Dinner nice. Set menu is good value compared to the standard menu. Don't agree with standard 12.5% service charge added to bill, Would much rather choose my own tip, but that out preference.

We went this restaurant during Easter break. We booked reservation for a table for dinner when we checked in at the reception. When we went to the restaurant, the receptionist said there was no our table ! Crazy communication! The receptionist is very insensitive, said it’s full but actually it’s not. She asked us wait one hour, we couldn’t accept this so we asked the hotel receptionist to negotiate with the restaurant receptionist and hotel receptionist insisted she told the restaurant receptionist earlier, so... the restaurant manager came and let us in. The truth is that there ate still many tables left. We felt sick at this kinda service. Especially food is plain. Main course served very late after we had our appetizer. While we had dinner, there were quite noisy, baby crying ....We almost lose our appetite. Wouldn’t come again ever!

Dined here with colleagues on a business trip. Service was warm and welcoming. Food was pretty good too. Three courses and a bottle for three people at £128 isn’t bad. The fish & chips topped the FOMO chart for us. If you’re staying at the hotel there aren’t really any other fine- dining establishments close by.

Lady fell down then stairs and was still drinking all night, at least Pam was told coins not buy anymore drinks as one of our fringes was apparently drunk. After ask them to show us the cctv to prove so they said it wasn’t possible So unfortunately weatherspooons are now racist so will not be returning

We ordered two Jacket Potatoes and prawns and onefish and chips. The jacket pototoes were overcoooked and blackskins. The fish and was atrocious it had obviously been battered and fries and then re-heated. We should have complained to get a refund, but we had to catch our train. We generally never complain, but the food was rubbish. Will not be eating there ever again

THEE INTERIOR IS LIKE STEPPING BACK INTO THE PAST.. TRULY ORIGINAL YOU CAN ALMOST GET A SENSE OF WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE IN THE YEARS OF OLD.. FANTASTIC VENUE GREAT PLACE FOOD IS WELL ORGANISED AND DELICIOUS STAFF ARE DELIGHTFUL
