Lovely traditional breakfast at Waitrose cafe in Chester. The eggs are cooked to perfection and runny. The sausage is delicious. Nice clean and tidy seating area. My son enjoyed his porridge with honey. The food is nice and fresh. When we visit Chester this is our go to place for breakfast! We also enjoy having a little shop in Waitrose after we have had our breakfast.

This review is really more for the store in general. Having popped in for some wine we were absolutely horrified by the dusty, filthy state of the shelves, floor and general unclean appearance of the store. Such a shame really as it used to be lovely and clean.

Second visit in as many days first time the food was ok. Unfortunately the second trip the food was horrible. The Staff was more interesting in talking about twenty plus staff members off sick due to a worker having covid and then those who have been in contact with them having to isolate.. They should protect its customers if that's the case by either limiting the amount off people in store plus not having staff members with masks around there chins as a few were not covering mouth or nose. Considering the signs in the shop about distance shame not any staff was following them. Last visit here, it's a complete letdown that they continue to keep store open for money rather than safety of its customers . Shame on you.

Dare I say pre covid I would always meet my sister for breakfast and coffee usually scrambled eggs on sourdough toast, yummy. So for the last year I have had to make my own, I've missed the friendly staff, meeting my friends oh and my sister of course. Once the café reopened this week, I along with lots of others have felt nervous about going out, I need not have worried. The signposts were clear what we could expect and everyone I saw (I couldn't see smiles behind masks but eyes were twinkling nonetheless). NHS check in is easy via the app. Ordering is straightforward and payment at the familiar till point. I treated myself to a full English delicious. Did I want to go large with my coffee? Erm of course! Freshly cooked, served straight to our table, Thank You Nicky for stopping to answer our questions. No pressure to leave. Thank You Waitrose and welcome back to a sense of normality, coffee with friends.

Visited on June 2 as the cafe reopened after over a year. We loved this cafe before and were keen to visit again. We were not disappointed. The staff, or Partners are all so welcoming and the quality of the food is second to none. The view of the canal at the back is lovely and has changed considerably. You can see the peregrine falcons nesting in the old chimney apparently! Lovely visit with friends. We sat outside in the sun

Called for lunch today, very disappointing. After a 25 minute wait our 'meals' arrived. We thought they had made a mistake with the sausage & mash and brought us a child's portion - 2 sausages, the smallest spoonful of mash and a jug of watery gravy (£6.50). There was weird lumps in the mash which we decided was dried packet Smash, it was disgusting. My chicken curry & rice wasn't much better - I think it had been sitting under a heat lamp for ages as the rice was dry and clumpy and the chicken was dry and shrivelled and too hard to cut or chew. We were offered a refund which we accepted but then had to do our shopping whilst hungry & then find somewhere else for lunch.

We always stop for a bacon butty and cup of coffee before we shop and it's always nice. Any delays are the fault of understaffing by the managers, not the friendly and clearly over-worked staff! I'm sure the staff would love more help at busy times but some moaners don't seem to appreciate that.

Having visited Waitrose on several occasions I can not believe the improvement I experienced at your cafe today. I will often call in for coffee during my visit but today I had the best coffee served by a young man who I have not seen before. Unfortunately I do not know his name because he did not have a name badge but what a pleasant young man. There was quite a wait to be served and he dealt with a busy situation so professionally and politely. He apologised for the wait which I appreciated, however, his coffee was definitely worth the wait!

If you have read my previous review, you will know that I have given this place time to improve, but how many chances do you give a place? Visited again today and guess what, tables left 25 mins before clearing, food served cold and unprepared. (avocado not mashed and bacon on it, undercooked with COLD toast). Same staff as before and because they haven't 'wasted time' being trained you would think that they had been given loads of time to practise? Not a bit of it. I so much want this place to be good, I love the business model of JL Partnership but it doesn't just work, you need to MAKE it work. I did see the store duty manager and relayed my story to him and got the 'we are in a state of flux with staff' speech. It simply is not good enough. How many people need to tell them before they do something about it?

I know its tricky to be master of all talents but a supermarket café is a chance to 'Showcase' the companies products and this one not only fails to show these foodstuffs in the best light, it makes you wonder about the quality aspect in other areas of this business. Re regularly visit the café for coffee and cake but on this occasion, I decided to go for the full English breakfast. What an error in judgment that was ! An egg that had been subjected to so much heat it may as well have been used as heating insulation. To say it was over cooked was like saying that the sun is a little warm ! The sausages were just 'In-cooked' not even brown. Cold in the centre and without doubt constituted a health risk. This matter was raised with a café assistant who was 'not authorised' to refund and so a 10 minute wait ensued for a supervisor who dealt with the issue with all the finesse of a charging rhino. She did take the 'cook' to task (in full view of the other diners) and told her it was unacceptable to send out food like this but this should have been done in private. Young people get enough 'bad press' but to humiliate them in public says much about the John Lewis Partnership (or at least at local level). Perhaps so much money is spent on the famous JL Christmas TV ads. that no money exists to train its local management teams?

Slow service is all part of the Chester Waitrose cafe experience, placed a simple order for a bacon roll and seperate bacon egg and tomato. Not difficult? After 20 mins and still no food a server came to ask if we wanted the bacon egg and tomato all on the one roll!!! After slowly explaining they are two seperate breakfasts and that we had been waiting quite some time, five minutes later this arrived (see pic). Bacon that looks like it had survived a nuclear apocalypse, just!!!! How hard is it to cook simple bacon? We call in frequently for coffee. Cafe is part of a very A-B shopping experience with clientele to match and looks clean and inviting. Unfortunately [and every time we have called] the wait in-line for service is forever and, as it doubles as a community chat room, free tables are invariably limited. If you have already shopped you understandably can not wheel your trolley into the dining area and it is often not possible to find a seat with your paid-for goods in view [though I am assured by staff that Waitrose customers would never steal from each other].Coffee is OK but nothing more and pastries are tasty though not cheap.

Very disappointed today! booked into the fabulous Just Hair specialists - a local business opposite the Boughton Waitrose. I had been told that customers to the salon could have 3 hours parking at Waitrose as a means of good will and supporting local business. Have used this service before and have always ended up spending money for some luxury items from Waitrose. Checked with customer service in the shop only to be told that they had to ignore this requests over Christmas!! I went to the salon and explained I would now have to move my car as the appointment would be longer. I then slipped on ice entering the car park. No car park attendant in sight to witness this or offer any help!! Got in my car and moved it to Sandy Lane. I don't intend to shop in Waitrose again. Its all about the money, no surprise I'm sure. I've not been to a watirose in 6 years so thought I would go take a look. I walked so cannot remark on the parking. When you enter you go up a travelator so easily accessible. I was impressed with the lighting and fresh look. I wanted to join my Waitrose but at the customer service desk the internet was not working. I thought the selection of meat was very good. The sandwich section actually has offerings without mayo in everything - just plain old cheese and pickle. i thought many of the prices were comparable to other stores and was not as expensive as I had perceived it to be. I did not see a self check out but I might have missed it. The check out lady Letitia (maybe) was just lovely. When i explained why I had not got a card, she told me how to do it online and still gave me the free drink. You just go to customer services and there was tea/coffee etc. I like this, a nice touch. I loved looking at all the different sauces and spices you don't see in the competition. Definitely won me over if I'm looking for a special meal or something different as not local enough for me.

Nice clean café, in a large modern Waitrose. Selection of drinks and snacks, all by the side of the canal.

It's a nice clean cafe with views over the canal. We had soup and panini's with tea and a newspaper. It was nicely presented by corteous staff.

Lovely staff and atmosphere. Very welcoming place. We have visited the cafe regularly for the past 6 months and cannot fault the place. We watched a few bands there too and they have been brilliant. My only complaint is the site has let the trees grow a little and hinders the of the lovely view of the fields beyond.

Always a positive experience here! Dylan, the Welsh guy with an extremely impressive beard, always makes our visit special and he’s pretty good at making coffee too!!! Looking forward to visiting again soon.

A friend took me for lunch at the cafe yesterday. We were both impressed by how welcoming it felt, how friendly and pleasant the staff were and the quality of the food. So I was surprised to see negative reviews and felt I should express my opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to return, especially to sample the scones and cakes.

Extremely disappointed tonight which is unusual as we really enjoyed going before refurbishing. Food was not good a all. 3 cheese burgers one plain and 2 with one piece of lettuce and a chunk of onion. The fries on all three plates were overcooked. The onion rings were overcooked although we did eat some. The carvery was nice except for pigs on blankets as they had been left under heat lamp far to long inedible. The fried chicken sandwich was tasty.but again fries overcooked. The young lady gave me a box to bring the full burger home to put in the bin. This is unusual so not sure if they changed the chief or they were having a bad day. Tripped over the side of the chair and hurt my leg and informed the young lady it was a safety issue she said she would inform the manager but didn’t take steps to remove the hazard. ( not sure yellow and black hazard tape is adequate if it’s covered by the arm of the chair that’s broke ?) this time wasn’t value for money and we left feeling dissatisfied. Felt like they just couldn’t be bothered . Sad really as we have loved eating here 😔
