After a long journey from our home, this pub was recommended and did not disappoint. Lunch menu was varied, we had beef & ale pie and b&c burger, followed by delicious rhubarb and ginger pudding. The staff were attentive and genuinely friendly, the team worked well together and the setting was clean, quiet and well-organised. The food was delicious, freshly-cooked fluffy chips and wonderful pudding. Reasonable prices and service with a smile, we would definitely return.

We went to celebrate a special birthday. Started well with a nice-looking pub. We ordered food. It came, and then the fun began!!! We upgraded to loaded fries. What a complete rip-off. I would never challenge the team on that, though. One of our party had the koftas. They were rock hard, which bearing in mind they were £18.00 was shocking. We sat on a table next to the serving station, and the shift runner was sat on a lap top behind us. They surly must have heard we were less than impressed. Not once did someone do a table check. They avoided us like the plague. We didn't want to make a big deal as not to ruin the birthday celebrations. However, still on collecting the plates, we were not asked how the meals were. Even though one of the plates had been hardly touched. The bill came over, but still, we were not asked. So we challenge the paying of the 1 meal. They then went to get a shift runner. They took ages to come around from the bar. They then made no attempt to address the issue just went to the order point. Were the team laughed about it. The shift runner then disappeared. We asked if the shift manager would speak to us. They umed and said they would get her. She appeared as we had got up to leave the building. By this point, we were past the talking stage. As a hospitality manager, we are trained to address the customers that can clearly be seen as unhappy, to always check back on a table. This all could have been addressed with a check-in, but the staff and leader seemed to just want to hide. There are lots of great places in this area. This is not one. Overpriced, poor quality, and staff that need retraining. Exspect a formal complaint.

Where do I begin . From start to finish our experience was shocking ! Online I couldn't reserve a table until 6pm , I tried ringing but no answer . Arrived to find the place more than half empty which seemed very strange . When we arrived we stood waiting to be seated as staff walked. past us . We had to ask to be seated . We were shown to our table and waited twenty minutes for service . We had to ask to place an order for drinks and also placed our food order . When we enquired whether the cheese pie was homemade we were told that it was a frozen one ! The Sunday lunch was honestly the worst we've ever tasted . The roast potatoes had a strange taste and were rock hard . The broccoli wasn't al dente it was like a brick . The entire meal was bland and just terrible. There was just no flavour in anything on the plate apart from the piece of carrot . It was flavourless and unappealing . No one came to ask if our food was ok and in fact no one came to the table at all unless we called them over . We waited 20 minutes for a second drink . Drinks were just lined up on the bar and no one seemed to be serving them . We didn't have a desert as they were far too expensive , some being almost £9 . I noticed the £6.95 blob of ice cream was served in a plastic tub as bought not even in a dish ! . People were complaining about dirty tables as three members of staff just stood together chatting instead of assisting customers ! There were no mature staff there to supervise the three young members of staff who clearly had no direction and therefore just flitted about or stood chatting whilst customers waited for service . The chef was walking up and down through the restaurant several times which I found very strange and his tunic was very dirty, not just that days dirt I'm sure ! Two other kitchen staff were also up and down through the restaurant and we couldn't work out why the kitchen staff were doing this ! Why would kitchen staff keep walking up and down through the restaurant? We asked for our bill and waited to pay . The waiter didn't come back to enable us to pay so we had to call him over to pay . The staff were just so unattentive ! Two out of three toilet seats in the ladies were also broken ! Overall our experience was lacking friendly, knowledgeable, positive , helpful staff with a terrible meal in lovely newly refurbished surroundings . We got engaged at the Waggon and Horse's so it always a special place to us and means such a lot . We try to support it under whatever management and have done many times . We took friends this time who had not been before and we were so embarrassed by the whole experience . Over all the years we have never experienced such an awful evening there . I can honestly say that I will not be going back .

I had a starter of oil and balsamic vinegar with bread . The bread wasn't warm and not toasted. My main was goats cheese and fig tart . This was the most unappealing main I have ever had. Tart case was rock hard and the filling was so disappointing, no sauce completely dry .This was a family day out with my brother who lives there in congleton and we are from Sheffield. I didn't want to complain but really . They knocked a small amount of the bill , if this had been my place I would not have charged for the meal . Very disappointed

I wish I had read some of the earlier reviews. Robinsons have done a lovely job inside on the refurbishment. Unfortunately the food offering is just not value for money, and the prices are not commensurate with the average quality of the food or portion sizes. This was our second time (giving them the benefit of the doubt after the first visit 4 weeks ago) but when you are charged £20 for an average burger, and fries (with the New Yorker "Upgrade" for £4, which amounted to a sprinkling of melted cheese on a handul of frozen chips) you don't expect to still be able to see 50% of your plate when it is served to you. W&H won't be getting any more of our hard earned cash soon which is a shame as we like to support local businesses - congleton market quarter here we come.

We arrived the four of us yesterday to a very quiet pub,, to have not one member of staff greet us! I then had to ask for a table at bar, as couldn’t see anymore at the stand saying “wait to be seated “.. When we did sit down staff walked past not even a hello … The food we ordered was very disappointing. The portions were small and the pie my dad said was crap and dry. Each meal being £16 each very overpriced for what we got. To Consider the amount of money you have just spent on it to refurbish it , I would of put it to a lot better use and maybe sent some of your staff on a course of how to meet and greet and be a lot friendlier … It’s Such a shame as we marry over the road this year and was going to book for the day after for a big party of us to come . Won’t be back !

Lovely venue, let down by the shocking service and food. We visited for a family members birthday. The service we received throughout the night was shocking which would have been understandable if the venue was busy but it was empty with amicable amount of staff to cope. We waited over 30minutes before we had to ask for someone to come and take our drinks order. When then yet again had to try and get a waiters attention which may I add there were several stood in a huddle chatting away to one another. We finally ordered our food, and it eventually arrived only to have half of the meals sent straight back into the kitchen due to being frozen cold no apology given by a waiter. This seemed to be a theme throughout the venue as the family sat next to us also sent theirs back. Common courtesy would have been to come and check everything was ok with your food never mind you also had tables that had sent their food back so surely you would want to make sure everything was ok. If you wanted another drink you must have been mistaken as the first time when you had to ask for one was the last time you would get an opportunity. What resembled an empty plate just left in front of our our table members until we vacated the venue. Absolutely shocking customer service not normally one to leave a review however I reached out the venue to air my concerns just to be ignored but what more could you expect to go with the shocking customer service received by all staff that night. I will not be returning here nor do I recommend anybody to.

We visited last night for the first time with two other couples. It was a wild and stormy night, but the pub was really welcoming...warm, cosy, beautifully decorated for Christmas and fire burning in the hearth. The welcome was equally friendly and we were shown to a nice table. Our drinks orders were quickly taken and served and, thereafter, the service was generally good, although it did take quite a while for our food orders to be first taken. The food though, turned out to be disappointingly average. I started with the Salt and Pepper Calamari, which was not generous and anyway seemed more about the crispy batter crust than the squid inside. And the accompanying Sriracha Mayonnaise was extremely bland - little more than a Marie Rose sauce. I had the Classic 'C&B' Burger to follow, which really wasn't good. The presentation was okay, but the burger combo and all its elements were very dry and tasteless. Frankly, the cheese and bacon were not identifiable at all. The fries were no better, being thin, greasy and with little substance. Normally with this group of friends there will be lots of positive comments during the meal, but on this occasion there was just polite silence as we worked our way through it. I just had a coffee to follow, though others had desserts. My wife had wanted ice cream, because 'Marshfield Farm' ice cream sounded so appetising. Surprisingly, the choice was very basic - just vanilla (and strawberry and chocolate, but I'm not sure). So she opted for the Chocolate Brownie, which she found quite pleasant. I really don't like giving poor reviews, which is why I have gone into some detail. But the Waggon and Horses has been so beautifully refurbished, that this seems such a lost opportunity with the current standard of food. There are many other good eating places around - indeed I gave a five star review to another Robinson pub just a few weeks ago - so I really hope this one improves.

What a pleasure to get such attentive service with a smile! The roast beef Sunday lunch was faultless and I was offered extra gravy at the onset, couldn’t resist another jug. Perfectly cooked roast beef, tasty crispy roast potatoes full of flavour and sweet perfection of roasted carrots and parsnips. Finish it off with nicely shredded cabbage and peas and a crispy Yorkshire pudding. Portion size was perfect and everything was piping hot. My better half had the Hunters chicken served with the best chunky chips we have seen in a long time - crispy outer and fluffy inside the perfect description. Her only minor issue was she would have liked a bit more barbecue sauce as she felt it was a little dry! Perhaps my copious gravy got to her. Price point perfect, service excellent and faultless food. Well done all and thank you

Came for lunch (on a Monday) - just two other tables mid afternoon occupied. Poor welcome and, presumed manager, sat at the bar and shown no interest in engaging with customers. Ordered drinks and decided on our menu items - went to place our order only to be told that both items we had hoped to ordered (fish and the pie) were not available - understand items may not always be available, but tell customers when you hand them them menu in the first place. What we ordered was really not great in terms of quality vs price paid. Robinson's have done a nice job of refurbing the pub, but sadly the positivity ends there. There are many, many pub dining options in East Cheshire (and we tried 8 of them in our three week visit, this was our least favourite.

I live nearby to this pub, have called in a few times for drinks/food, I like the new decor, so on Sunday I decided to call in with my friend and her dog,as her partner works for Robinsons and I wanted to show her the place, we arrived at about 5.30 and on asking if there were any tables, we were told Only taking bookings, so we went and sat in the snug room next to the bar, there were only 2 guys in there who had finished eating and left, the main bar there were approx 3 tables in and all the time we were there no on else came in the room area or the bar, we left at 7.30 ish And felt like they were waiting for us to leave so they could close. Two things here, surely as a newly reopened pub you would want the custom, they could easily have fit us in as it wasn’t busy, we would have eaten by the time they finished serving at 8 and also maybe the Staff could be little more enthusiastic with the service, it was hardly inspiring even just the bar service. We left and were welcomed in at another pub close by as walk ins, if you wish to keep customers coming back then maybe a little more flexibility is needed. I still like the redecoration of the place, just need the service to match that standard.

We used to really enjoy this pub and were excited about the refurbishment so went for my birthday meal. The prices were a lot steeper that previous, but given the quality of the refurbishment we were optimistic that it would be lovely food. The starters...

I’d like to start the review by saying the food was good and came out in a really timely manner (apart from one dish that hadn’t been put on the order for some reason). However, the service was so bad that we likely won’t return...

Ignore any review before December 2022. The change is astonishing. Yes it was stuck in a time warp with food that seemed to be stuck in the ‘70’s too. However, the changes made by Robinsons are nothing short of astounding. The before and after changes...

The reviews for this place is somewhat misleading because we found it extremely disappointing Waggon & Horse very dated with limited menu options, and lacking in atmosphere I would not recommend this place as there are far better options close by

Food has got expensive, on the website states paninis £7.75, when the actual price in the cafe is over £10. We had 2 paninis and a pot of tea, the bill came to over £27. We use the cafe on a regular basis, but will be giving it a miss from now.

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!
