We were so glad to stumble across this tea rooms. It’s above the jewellery shop so doesn’t stand out from the road. You walk through the shop and up the stairs. There were 6 of us (including two young children) and they had the perfect table to sit all of us together. There are two seating rooms so don’t assume you can’t get seated if it looks full, as there is another room. The food was absolutely lovely and the staff were so friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I definitely highly recommend it.

After discovering this hidden gem by accident last year we have to say this is now our go to tea room when visiting Whitby. The food and service were exceptional and the staff made a fuss over my 8 year old daughter who enjoyed her own mini afternoon tea ! Nothing was too much trouble, the sandwiches, cakes and scone we had were divine and we were greeted like old friends! Safe to say we’ve already booked for next Feb!.

Despite living in the area, I’ve never been here before. That will now change. Set above the jet shop, this is a little gem (see what I did there?). I ordered Moroccan mint tea to soothe an upset stomach and threw in a scone to give it something else to grumble about. Both were superb. The adjacent table was astonished when their food came as both plates were piled so high. This place is a diamond (okay I’ll stop now).

Visited this tea room three times whilst in Whitby, it was lovely. I had the crab sandwich which was simple and delicious, and the other times I had a jacket potato and some cheese scones, all of which are very tasty. The cafe was a lovely atmosphere and the ladies who work there are very friendly and helpful, this tea room just felt really reliable and you knew whatever you ordered was going to be nice. Highly recommend this place :) Oh and the cakes looked fab too!

Trying to find shelter from the heavy downpour and came across this tea place above a jewellery shop very near to the steps leading up to Whitby Abbey. Had one cream tea which came with a pot of jam and cream, both of a reasonable amount and a pot of Earl Grey tea with extra water provided . Scones were big and moreish. We also had an extra fruit scone with butter. Friendly service and a nice rest indoors.

We have visited this tearoom before for lunch many times and have always found it very good. However after the experience we have just had we will never go again. It took 15 minutes for the young waitress to take our order and it was 35 to 40 minutes for our order of 2 cold salads to arrive despite there being only one order before us and very few people in the cafe. When the salads arrived we asked for hot water for our tea which never arrived. When we were asked how our lunch had been, we raised the above issues and the young waitress was extremely rude and lied about bringing extra hot water. Slow service could be overlooked but we will not accept being lied to. Won't be going again.

Delicious scones! We had a perfect pot of Earl Grey and an English breakfast tea. Service was friendly and quick. It’s lovely to gaze out of the upstairs windows at the constant stream of passers by. Most other cafes were packed, so this felt like a secret tearoom above a gorgeous jewellery shop. The fruit and cheese scones had obviously been baked that morning and the cream was thick and plentiful. The loos were really nice too!

Service particularly slow, it took them 10 minutes to come and take our order and they had very few covers; it then took them half an hour to deliver our breakfasts by which time our tea had gone cold. The breakfast itself was underwhelming. Given how long we had waited I was disappointed to find the bacon and sausage were tough (they’d obviously been heated up for some time) and the egg not properly cooked on top, creating the dreaded egg booger. At no point during our visit or when we paid were we asked if we’d enjoyed our stay or if there was anything else we wanted. For an £8.50 breakfast I thought this was disappointing value and quality. The waitress attending to us most was very young and inexperienced and seemed to have to be reminded of the bare essentials of service- like providing cutlery. Sadly, to be avoided.

We chanced upon the tea shop above a jet shop and were so glad we did. Very friendly staff, excellent Covid precautions and delicious cake. We arrived at the end of a busy afternoon so only a couple of cake options left but the Victoria sponge and fruit cake were both top notch. Leaf tea was appreciated. We noticed other tables having a proper afternoon tea which looked superb. We will certainly hope to return.

It was so busy in Whitby yesterday, Saturday, and most cafes were full, when we decided to try this cafe. It is upstairs in a jewellers shop and maybe they should stick to selling jewellery. We sat in a small room with one table of six people already there. We were a table of four and there were two empty tables. It took 15 minutes before the waitress took our order and nearly another twenty minutes before the cakes arrived. Drinks took a further five minutes to come. In the meantime another couple who came in after us got tired of waiting for their order to get taken and walked out. The scones were dry and obviously not fresh that day. The prices are high and it is definitely not worth a visit. Now I realise why it was the only place we found with empty tables. Avoid !!

Good service as always but the coffee was distinctly average and the scones very dry - definitely not fresh. The worst coffee shop experience of this year! We came in for a quick brew and a sandwich and to escape the torture of the Bank Holiday Whitby crowds. The relative peace and quiet offered by these charming tea-rooms was very welcoming. We ordered drinks and a sandwich each, I opted for cheese and plum chutney which was very nice while my colleagues chose egg mayonaise and cheese and onion. Everyone seemed happy with their choices and the bread was very fresh and soft with generous fillings. The coffee was one of the best I'd ever tasted, we opted for cafetierres of freshly ground Colombian coffee. It was not particularly cheap at £2.70 per person but it was delicious. It could maybe have been improved by the addition of cream but we had to make do with milk. The cost for four drinks and four snadwiches was just a shade over £31 so it was not cheap by any means.

W Hamond has recently taken over and renovated what used to be a Chapel. Its use before they got it was a market type sales area and tatty. But wow, now it is a very well and tastefully renovated place to eat. The choice of food, the food itself and the atmosphere is brilliant. This is not your average seaside/Whitby fish and chip shop. You want something different then go here. OK, you pay a bit extra for it but it is worth it. Check it out with a coffee first perhaps, look at the decor, check the menu then book for a meal.

This is by no means the easiest tea room to find, being hidden away in the upstairs of the jewellers. But I cannot stress enough how glad were to have stumbled upon it. The atmosphere is lovely, with pleasant views of the bustling cobbled lanes below, and the staff are so warm, friendly and welcoming. The service is incredibly prompt, and the food absolutely delicious; the soups, and cheese and tomatoes on toast are personal favorites. There is so much attention to detail in every element of the café, from the decor to the presentation of the food. And despise the positioning of the tea room, everything is so reasonably priced. The home-baked cakes are delicious beyond description, but be sure to save plenty of room as the slices are enormous! I cannot recommend this cosy, secretive little spot highly enough.

Bought a goupon seafood platter. Booked in advance and went today. No crab, we were told there was no crab in the whole of Whitby. Still it was a nice platter and although I was disappointed as I wanted the crab above all else, we had plenty to go at. However upon walking through nearby streets there was crab aplenty! What a disappointment, two customers left because they wanted a crab sandwich and went elsewhere, we should have done the same but had booked in advance and travelled for two hours! Wish we had known as we would have not travelled so far. Advice to Groupon purchasers is to ask when booking so to avoid disappointment. Sorry to complain as the people are lovely but a short walk to the closest fishmonger could have remedied this. We live inland so fresh crab is the main treat, sadly let down.

Booked a groupon for a seafood platter. The platter was well-presented but not what we were expecting. There was no crab, which had been advertised as part of the platter. Instead, it was replaced with cold mussels which we left because they were awful. The salmon was nice and prawns and pate were okay.My partner had one of the craft ales, which he said was okay. I had a glass of prosecco, which was okay. We paid extra for 'a bottle of prosecco' which it clearly states in the small print on groupon. When I arrived it was a 20cl bottle so the advert was misleading.

My wife and I called in for afternoon tea today. We chose a seat near the window but quickly moved because the people on the table next to us we're fairly loud. As we drank our tea, we were astonished when we realised that the "loud table" were actually managers from the tea shop carrying out interviews. The poor candidates - they had no choice but to do the interview in this public place, and all of the customers in the shop could hear every word of the interview. This is really poor practice guys - how would you like all of your information shared with a bunch of strangers? The loudness of this "interview table" was also overpowering in this small room, spoiling what should have been a quiet half hour. We did complain but the girl we spoke to didn't seem too interested and certainly didn't apologise. The tea was nice, but the atmosphere for our visit was lousy.

I called in on Tuesday for a quick cup of coffee and one of Hammond's delicious scones. Everything was excellent- the tearooms are spotlessly clean, the food very good and the young man who served me was polite and efficient and friendly. The only place now in Whitby for me to have a snack! Thankyou.

Great for light snacks and cakes, tea or coffee. By the 199 steps and a good place to sit and relax in this old building.

Very relaxing place in the heart of busy Whitby. The food was excellent with good and friendly service. Four of us had lunch - jacket potatoes were cooked just right with nice fillings. The tea was of course spot on. We travelled up from Scarborough and will be calling again next time we are in Whitby.

A well laid out tearooms with friendly staff. A good menu and reasonable prices, also cater for gluten free customers.Very clean establishment with excellent rest rooms. The only slight problem we had was the the waitress who greeted us was unfamiliar with legislation regarding service dogs, so she was flustered and had to go and ask her manager about letting us in. After this query was resolved we were served in good time and in a friendly manner. Hopefully the management will now make staff aware of service dog legalities

We had booked a Seafood Platter for two via Groupon & were pleased we had. The staff, contrary to a recent review, were friendly & helpful. The food was well presented &, best of all, was tasty.

We went to W Hammond's today (28/03/2017) My Wife and I for a Drink and a piece of Cake, after spending some time up at the Abbey, up and down the steps. A young lad showed us to our seat his attitude even then was not great, he came back a few minutes to take our Order and rather than have another Cup of Tea which my Wife and have been drinking for the past few days so we ordered 2 x Glasses of Elderflower and I ordered a Piece of Coffee and Walnut Cake too which looked delicious. The young lad passed the girl in the Kitchen the Whole cake though the serving hatch to cut ; We were drinking our drinks at this point which had been brought too us but the Cake was still on the inside of the serving hatch which I could see but it was part of the Kitchen so certainly not my place just to go up and take, besides which a) It should have been brought out and b) The Staff in the Kitchen weren't in the slightest bit bothered about customer service and continued to laugh and joke together in the kitchen rather than be interested in their customers. My Cake did still not get brought out to me and was just left out on the side and after 20 minutes in which time I had drunk my drink we decided to leave ; the cashier said how much our bill was and I mentioned it wasn't that much due to the fact I had not received my Cake ! , No real apology was given at all . I have never put a bad review on Trip Adviser before only good ones. We are frequent visitors to Whitby and Absolutely we would never go back to this place again ever. In a Town with some amazing Cafe's, Restaurants and other establishments W Hammond's has been left behind in regards to service . I'm not a complainer at all and all other reviews have been excellent. I told the waitress at the Cash counter that the Staff and Service had been Crap and I wish I hadn't said that in hindsight but they were simply not bothered and it was frustrating when just about every other place prides itself on its service in a fantastic town .

My partner and I visited last Monday we didn't want somewhere crammed full or a well known coffee house. I have previously been here but my partner hadn't. So I decided to visit. At first he thought we were going into the jewellers to look round then we took the back stairs to the cafe. We had tea for two and two slices of home made Victoria sponge cake. It was delicious. The staff are lovely in fact I had a coughing fit and the young lady came to see if I needed a glass of water. The cafe is quite modern, plenty of room on the tables, the tables and chairs are well spread so there is no awkward moments asking for people to move. The whole place is spotlessly clean. Will defiantly return next year a credit to you all.

We were disappointed that our favourite ice cream place - the Sandside Bar - was closed and we had not been to these tea rooms so checked it out. If you can get past the absolutely awsome antique jet jewellery then up the black stairs - you will find a really well done up cafe. there was no one in there - and we just ordered two scoops of diary ice cream each and some earl grey tea - but all fabulous. I would definitely recommend the vanilla, passion fruit sorbet and lemon meringue. we will return.

Visited a couple of times during half term to escape the busy streets and have a sit down. Lovely atmosphere, good cakes. I had the cream tea (still warm scone) and my husband had carrot cake. Both were good and a nice cup of tea. Worth a visit.

Needed refreshments in Whitby rather late in the afternoon for other tearooms (4 p.m.), but delighted to find this super clean and cosy tea room open until 5 or so.We ordered a cheese scone with plum chutney and cream cheese which was warm (the scone) and absolutely a dream to the taste buds. Our friend tried the beetroot and hazelnut cake, which also was beyond delicious and very generous in size..The tea was proper loose leaf in a special infuser/strainer teapot. and the service friendly and prompt. Toilets also very clean. We didn't feel rushed, and other customers were being served wonderful looking platters as we were leaving. No music either, so we enjoyed conversing without hindrance! Perhaps a little more expensive than other tea rooms in Whitby, but where else would you get such well presented and delicious fare later in the afternoon?

Bought 3 vouchers of groupon for fish platter and prosecco for 2 costing around £80, after reading a review on here it says they have no alcohol license. this a clear example of false advertsing, considering we have already purchased technically 3 bottles of prosecco, spoke to 3 very helpful member of staff at the tea rooms who although they where very helpful could not help further nor offer me a refund or soltuion. The manager of the W hamond buisness then called me 2 days later and very rudley and bluntly offers me a £46 refund and the remainder of what I owed in a £30 tea room vouchers, which I obviously declined. Once I mentioned it was CLEARLY false advertising and that the voucher was still available on groupon today ( 27.10.16) selling alcohol which they could not produce, I was told someone from groupon would contact me as soon as possible, typically no one has been in touch and the offer is now'sold out' on groupon. AVOID.

We recently visited these Tea rooms in Whitby and enjoyed an amazing Seafood platter which was of the finest and varied seafood which included a Kipper Pate with pitta bread and a accompanied salad with Strawberies and Grapes. Unfortunately we could not manage to eat all the delicious Prawns as we were to full to eat any more. Thanks to the welcoming Staff for a memorable lunch hope to repeat the experience soon.

We bought a groupon voucher for the seafood platter and a bottle of prosecco. Sadly they don't currently have a licence so we couldn't have the prosecco despite us having paid for it. They said we could have cake instead which we didn't want so they gave us a £10 voucher instead. This means we have to go back which is great because we fully intend to!! The seafood platter was fabulous and we would definitely have it again. Staff were lovely and the tea room is really nice. Can't wait to go back!

Love the fact that you have to walk through the jewellers shop to get to this cafe. We popped in for lunch during a weekend in Whitby, I ordered the ham salad - wow, it was spectacular, quite simply the best ham salad in the world, the strawberries and grapes really made it special. My husband had a club sandwich which he thoroughly enjoyed, we could really have shared it between us it was so huge. The place itself is very nice with a welcoming and friendly feel, and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. Will definitely go again next time we are in Whitby. A treat not to be missed.

My wife uses a walker. We had never been to the Deli before so were unsure how to proceed. The staff completely ignored us. It was as if we were not there, or invisible. Even as we walked out of the Deli, no staff member offered any acknowledgement of us!

Gorgeous place to come to and is always on our list as a ' must go to'when we are in Filey. Beautiful setting and everything here is really delicious. The lemon meringue tart and coffee cake are to die for. It's lovely sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Sadly it was raining today and as we have a dog we couldn't go in, there was some seating under a canopy for the ice creams but sadly for us just a bit too chilly to sit out. It is cash only so that is something to always remember when visiting.

This pub/restaurant is under new ownership but the food and the drinks are still of exceptional quality. We visited at lunchtime (midweek), we had reserved our table in advance (this is advisable) and we were met with a very warm welcome. The menu has changed but still offers a good selection. The quality of the food was very good and the presentation appealing. Always a must when we visit this area. Good luck going forward, this place remains a firm favourite with us
