A nice warm cosy pub.. really friendly staff

Good value Sunday lunch though Yorkshire Pud was a bit burnt. Fish and chips was tasty but fish a little on the small side hidden in all the batter. Otherwise delicious food and staff were lovely.

Five stars all around however the staff are outstanding, the food is fantastic and still good value. Highly recommend this pub for drinks and food. Your dog is always welcome too!!

We visited here for a drink and no food . The bar staff looked very stressed and we're turning people away that wanted food. Saying the chef was on a break ! People were leaving the queue at the bar . Didn't feel a very welcoming homely old pub like it used to.

I have eaten here a couple of times already in 2024. It is a proper traditional pub and very historic dating from the C16. It is a warren of different rooms and they cater for people with dogs in part of the pub with another more formal setting for those without pets. The welcome is warm and friendly and the food is of a really good standard for a pub. Traditional but with some more modern twists. Helpings are plentiful. It is also a great spot for a Sunday roast but booking essential for that.

I used to live near Kenilworth but I'd never been here. I was visiting to meet a lovely friend who I had not seen in many years. So I asked for a quiet table (ideal for lots of catch up chatting!) when I booked online. I was SO pleased with the table (in a quiet 'snug area'). But more than that the overall experience was fantastic. All of the staff were very friendly & accommodating. The food was delicious. The fact that it's the oldest pub in Kenilworth (1563!) with lots of historical character touches is the cherry on the cake! I would definitely recommend it to others & I will be returning next time I'm around that way.

Not a great experience here. Firstly, my starter was forgotten, so I was sat waiting while everyone else had theirs. While waiting, another member of the party found an elastic band in the soup - image attached! 15 minutes after ordering, the waiter came back and told us one of our meals was out of stock - surely we should of been made aware of this while ordering! We then have been asked for our desserts orders before even receiving mains. Was just so all over the place. Fish and Chips was just batter no fish. They did remove the elastic band soup and fish off the bill, but doesn’t change the experience we had.

Lovely food - delicious (and thick!) chicken burger and a good menu selection on offer. Someone else in the group found the Sunday lunch beef a bit tasteless, but everyone enjoyed their meals overall. Nice and quiet inside, pleasant staff. Not sure why I hadn’t ventured in here before but would come back again!

Great little pub, lovely cosy little nooks...can see the appeal BUT we had a disappointing 1st visit. Booked for 5 pm table Sunday Roast via website....roasts sold out on arrival. Waitress seemed tired & told us '1st come 1st serve'. Whilst I understand the reality of the situation it just took the shine off the whole experience. We had other places we could have booked.....

Historic pub with excellent food. Had to wait 58 minutes for two meals and it wasn’t even busy. Got the impression we were forgotten about.

Best pub in Kenilworth by far. Since the new owner Tom has taken over this has become our favourite place to come. All of the staff are absolutely amazing and make it such a friendly place to drink. Best pub in Kenilworth in my humble opinion. Great little beer garden and beer selection is excellent. Great place for a little pit stop after a walk around Abbey Fields.

We had a wonderful time at the Old Town Kenilworth Festival… the atmosphere and variety of stalls and music was great. However, I felt that the cost of Prosecco in this pub was day light robbery… three small drinks for over £20… served in a large beer plastic cup… not your finest moment.

This is a very old, large and pleasant pub with a good sized outdoor area. It’s an Everards pub and has a good range of their cask real ales. A good pub to visit on a summer day. The outdoor area has a reasonable amount of space.

Visited here with my mum for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago. The food was excellent and it wasn't too busy either, so had our pick of the tables. Notable shout out to our waitress Ellie who was excellent and very accomodating. I would visit again.

Ten of us arrived at quite short notice and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to find us the most suitable location within the pub. The food was of a high standard and was served promptly. Friendly attentive service throughout made for a pleasant dining experience. Highly recommended.

Great quick service. Food arrived exactly as ordered with the specific requests we had made fulfilled. Beer was well kept and poured. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Best steak and ale pie ever so much meat loaded and im 58 i know how to moan. Oliv served us with professionalism and bev followed up being brave enuf to ask us if we enjoyed our meal we did. I left my glasses and bev came outside and found me. These girls are an asset n reason i will return with my freinds.

We attended for a wake service in memory of my grandad, who was a little bit of a local legend in the place, food was delicious and in good variety, staff were very helpful. The only negative thing to say about the day is that several guests were not allowed in the pub due to issues with the landlord. I understand it's at the landlords discretion who they allow in the premises however you'd expect a little bit of empathy on a special day like a funeral especially given it was the place the majority of guests know my grandad from.

Visited for lunch with our 2 children. Lovely pint of sunchaser and a warm welcome. We opted for the 3 course lunch menu at 14 pounds. All I can say is that all four of us enjoyed all 3 courses. The portion sizes were also excellent. I cannot fault the food at all and the value for money was excellent. I can wholeheartedly recommend coming here, its a shame we are an hour away otherwise we'd be here every week.

I have been here few times lately for lunch , it’s really good value ,and the portions are substantial . I would defiantly recommend trying it .

VERY disappointing. We went for a traditional lunch and a cosy atmosphere. The cider tasted like soda, the gamon steak turned out to be a slice of bacon and the apple crumble was oversweet cooked apple pieces with sprinkled oats on top. No crust… NOT TO BE RECOMMENDED

Came here for lunch on a sunny Sunday. Everyone in my party ordered a different main meal and everything we had was delicious. Good portions and well presented. Staff are attentive and service was quick.

Just eaten lunchtime menu, 3 courses for £14! Wow what a lucky find, everything was so delicious, the garlic mushrooms starter the best I’ve ever tasted! Mediterranean vegetables tart a great option for vegetarians. Lovely staff and a beautiful pub too tastefully decorated. Very highly recommend a visit here and would love to visit again when in the area

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here with parents earlier this month. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent, with an extra jug of gravy. We all had roast beef; there was plenty of good quality meat, and proper roast potatoes. We would definitely recommend this pub.

I have always loved the Virgins. It’s such an atmospheric pub with bags of character. Came here for dinner on a Friday night. It was busy with diners so reserving a table is advised. The pub is under new ownership and they are doing everything really well from receiving a warm welcome at the bar to serving really decent pub grub. There are plenty of pub classics to choose from on the menu including veggie options. We all ordered a main and they were all very good. The staff are really friendly, helpful and work their wotsits off! The service was great. It’s doggie friendly too. We will be back!

We enjoyed 2 meals here whilst staying in Kenilworth. The hospitality was great and the old pub had a friendly feeling. There was a good selection of well kept beer. The food is good pub grub but very well prepared. I had chicken liver pate for lunch and 12 hour blade of beef for dinner both were excellent. My husband had fagots and sausage in batter for dinner. All at a very reasonable cost especially the evening specials. It's a 10 min walk from the castle and has parking out front,if you are lucky.

1st time for lunch, definitely will go back, reasonable prices, relaxed atmosphere, fresh tasty food, friendly attentive service.

The V&C is a very welcoming traditional pub, 7 of us had a lovely meal here last night, great menu choices at reasonable prices all of our starters & mains were delicious, very friendly staff and great choice of drinks, will definitely return

We went here for our family Easter meal! Such a lovely hidden gem on the inside. staff were really friendly and were very accommodating as we were with 3 small children. The manager even went the extra mile and gave all the children who were there on Easter Sunday an Easter egg! Service was great, the food was really yummy and we found it good value for money for the area. Will definitely be visiting again!

The staff member serving us knew nothing about the menu, drinks or allergens and after several back and forths where we had suggested how to confirm allergens we were able to order. The food took a very long time to arrive but when it did it was terribly cooked. Raw cauliflower, uncooked pastry, soggy anaemic potatoes which tasted and looked as though they’d not been in the oven. We requested more gravy, which was the tastiest part (my dad, mom and I had all ordered vegetarian meals) and when it arrived we put it on our meals only to discover it was meat gravy. The server was apologetic but made no attempt to rectify the situation. The service was dire, the poor waitress knew nothing and had clearly not been trained in customer service (she didn’t even know the brewery that the pub belongs to). Sadly her incompetence added to the poor, quiet atmosphere of the place not helped bad indie music played loudly. I think everybody knew this was not a good meal, the waitress included and it was terrible meal for a birthday celebration. My parents who had been previously before the change of hands apologised for suggesting it and we all left completely flat.

Popped into the V's yesterday for lunch, lovely new landlord and very friendly staff, especially Gwen. We had the Thursday steak special and it was excellent. Made to feel very welcome with our dog, who enjoyed the attention and treats. Nice to see it reverting back to being more of a traditional local pub.

Just popped in for a coffee today after our morning walk. Always great service and friendly staff, especially Gwen. Highly recommend for food too and dog friendly areas. They even get brought a blanket and water, the dogs that is 😀

The pub is very quaint with lots of small rooms for intimate evenings. The staff were welcoming and the food was exceptional. The menu is quite varied with two courses options and an à La carte. There is plenty of choice for wine and beer drinkers with a wide range of beers, ciders and wines. This was our first visit, but we will be back,

We have now visited the Vs twice, for lunch. On both occasions, the food was great, and good value for money. Service is excellent - attentive but not overbearing. There is a good selection of hand pulled ales. Parking is easy at the Abbey Fields car park just round the corner - parking is free for 2 hours. We will certainly be back.

Went for Sunday lunch. We both had roast beef which was excellent. The staff were polite and efficient and all at a sensible price.

Excellent experience - the Virgins has been a cornerstone pub in Kenilworth for years and under the new ownership the atmosphere is becoming more traditional again. Great atmosphere and the steak and wine evening was excellent and at the price, really impressive.

We eat on the fixed lunchtime menu. The food was very good, especially for the price. The portions were slightly small, but when you are paying £11.00 for two courses, it was excellent value. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere. We will eat there again

Enjoyed a lovely lunch from the £11 for 2 courses menu on a wet Thursday. Started with baked Camembert with cranberry and for main had the sausage and mash. Both courses were delicious. Service from Gwen was excellent. Would definitely go back

The new owner is a horrible petty little man. He has alot of Kenilworth against him in a very short period of him taking over. I wouldn't believe a word he say either! Everyone in Kenilworth should boycott the pub!

Great venue to shelter in on yet another wet and windy night. The pace was bustling but everybody was being served quickly. Good selection of dishes to choose from on the menu.

Nice place, quick service but food portions weren't big enough for some and food was mediocre. Apple and blackberry crumble had more fruit than crumble but guess that's down to each preference, flavour was average too, the lemon tart was decent.

We went to the Virgins and Castle for Sunday dinner on Mother’s Day, the food was amazing, easily the best beef I’ve ever had. Really good value for money. The staff were all friendly and really helpful. I can’t wait to go back.

What a lovely place!! We booked here for a mother's day lunch and we were not disappointed. We all had a Sunday lunch and the roast beef was the best I've ever tasted, so soft and just melts in your mouth. All staff are polite,...
