A shock to see bakery staff picking up and cuddling a dog in the shop. It is bad enough that dogs are allowed in food shops but holding a dog whilst in their aprons and near all the bakery items was unhygienic.

A regular customer for the sourdough bread baked here, went in today to find the sourdough loaves are smaller and have gone up from £4.50 to £5.00. The shop will not even slice them for you. Real shame as it was only just affordable before and bought as a treat shall not be buying it again. Very disappointing for a local business.

Good value bread and pastry products of a high standard and fresh. Had breakfast items from here for several days while on holiday and all were excellent.

Very ordinary bakery. Bread fairly good but the so called Danish pastries (they're a long way from a proper Danish) are well overpriced at £1.60 Also, I've been short changed by £10. It's my own fault because I stupidly stepped out of the shop before checking my change. Upon re entering the shop I was met with a very brusque and rude lady who denied everything. It's my local bakery but I will never shop there again. And the message from everybody is SHOP LOCAL - I don't think so.

Pop in daily for freshly baked bread. Staff are brilliant and always put one aside for me. Always have a laugh with the girls in there and won’t go anywhere else. Support your local small businesses!!

I live in Sidmouth and regularly go into Vinnicombes. After today, never again. I was queuing behind two elderly ladies so couldn't see which sandwiches they had on offer. It wasn't a problem for me, I was happy to wait until they had finished being served. When I was asked what I wanted, I politely explained I couldn't see the sandwiches. The "lady" moved them towards me so I could see them and then made a sarcastic remark to the effect of "I find that saying excuse me often helps". She might be happy to move people out of the way when they're still being served, but I'm not. I don't appreciate bad manners and won't set foot in there again,

My partner insisted on taking me to this bakery whilst on holiday. He had fond memories of their bread from his childhood, so we went out of our way to go there. I was not disappointed, the bread was the most delicious I’ve ever tasted. You may think it sad to rave about bread but when you’ve tasted this bread you’ll understand. Large tin with a raised top and it last so well if you buy the unsliced.

Their bread is lovely but I WILL NOT be buying anything from there again. A lady came out and got right down in niece's face and shouted at her for "banging" on the window. This was not the case she had just put her finger on the window to point out the wasp. My niece is only 4 and the most kind hearted little girl you could meet. She was soo upset(as was my 2 year old daughter) when my sister asked the lady to not shout at her daughter she then shouted at my sister and called her a rude word. This lady is the most unpleasant person I have ever met. To come out and get right into a 4 year olds face and shout like that was absolutely disgusting. I'm surprised that they get any business with service like that. The whole incident was very upsetting

These people make the best pasties, really packed filling. I missed breakfast this morning and by 1pm was really hungry - what better to eat. but also there bread is excellent and one of the few shops that still sell proper doughcakes and chudleys (to have with cream and jam instead of a scone). I don't know why the other bakers don't just give up, they are not even close.

Been a loyal customer for years. Love the granary loaves in particular but think just about all their wares are excellent value and quality. Ten out of ten.

Every year I spend time in Sidmouth - and every year I am denied a lay-in. Why? Read on! Vinnicombs are purveyors of the (shhhhhh! Say it quietly please) .....The Lardy Cake. If you get there about 9.45 they come out drippingly hot from the oven - so hot that you have to carry them out holding them by the bag top only - swapping hands because - I'm sure you know - heat rises. As a Londoner I have to wait all year round to satisfy a craving for these delicacies - even though they are taken for granted by the locals. No-one understands how special they are - like the 'Edmonds' Eccles cake from (where else?) Eccles! These delicacies should have PDO status - but since you fools voted for Brexit it makes no difference now! Forget WTO tarrifs these British delicacies should be exported all over the world at three times the price. Why do I lose my lay-in in Sidmouth? Well if you visit Sidmouth at busy times those Lardy cakes disappear in minutes - I kid you not. If you get there after 10am and join the queue you'll see the last one disappear before your eyes and your blood pressure will exceed 200/90 - which is classed as clinical hypertension. So you have to be in the queue at a precise time - too early is no good - they're still in the oven! Or....... Make sure you know where Exeter Hospital is and you know how to handle a cardiac infarction. For years now I have implored Vinnicombs to buy some more Lardy Cake tins - because the is where the bottleneck is - they have too few for folk week! I've even suggested bringing my own tin! But to no avail! (They think I'm a mad Londoner - but we're all like this when it comes to these British delicacies.) So the upshot is... Don't read this review and keep your hands off my Lardy cakes.

Fresh bread, buns, cakes and my favourite the almond macaroons. Cited on the main road out of town from the esplanade the bakery is easy to get to, especially if you are sampling the shops in town. This bakery supplies the bakery goods for Dukes, one of the local restaurants, and they match well in providing good, tasty local products.

Quick and friendly service, they are always baking and can see them hard at work, so you know the food and pastries are always fresh! They taste wonderful, and are well worth the money.

Unfortunately I was going to purchase some bakery items and was looking to also purchase something specific as well. And due to the unpleasant manor of the blond shorter lady working I did not purchase anything and most likely will not go in their bakery again cannot judge the bakery items unfortunately bad experience as soon as I walked into the bakery no purchase made, will not recommend friendly service is key.

Picked up a filled roll and a sausage roll on my way into work this morning. They tried to palm me off with a rather dodgy looking sausage roll to start with, but I asked for fresh. I've just discovered my egg and cress roll is very stale however, obviously yesterday's (the bottom is rock hard and the consistency is cake-like rather than soft and bread-like). The packaging wasn't dated though and it wasn't reduced so no indication of how old it actually was. I can't leave work to take it back, so I am stuck with no lunch.

Want a freshly baked loaf of bread, sandwich or a danish pastry ... perhaps a chelsea bun or a donut, but my all time favourite is the almond macaroon! A great local bakery, been coming here for many a year for our Folk Week treats - keep it up everyone!

Visited Vinnicombes when staying in Colyford with my parents, they always buy large white sandwich loaves here and it's the best fresh baked bread going... We also bought a couple of hot Sidmouth Pasties, a couple of cakes and a sausage roll and these were all excellent as well. They also do some very nice looking filled rolls. A genuine traditional bakery baking superb tasting bread fresh every day... Awesome.

Vinnicombes is under new ownership. They are a popular bakery that specialises in traditional English baked items. It would be nice to see a more creative offering at Sidmouth's bakeries. There are so many delicious alternative and and artisan breads that are well established offerings in other towns. We need to keep up!

Saw the sign in the window advertising that all products were home made and popped in for a sausage roll. The taste was good, quite crisp and the price was good for £1. It was nothing spectacular but at least it was made freshly and not mass produced. The staff were friendly and place busy which is always a good sign. Overall would return.

We visited the Riveria for lunch today, our first visit for 8 years and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered cod and chips at a hotel next to the sea but I was given a piece of battered fish straight out of the "Bird's Eye" mould and not freshly cooked as I expected from a hotel of some repute. This was nowhere near the quality I enjoy regularly from my local Wetherspoons!

Stunning pub with amazing food, wine selection, and the owners and staff are absolutely wonderful. It's our favourite place to visit. Twinkly lights, cosy fire in the winter, and live music and garden parties in the summer. Perfect 👌

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

I asked for a cream tea for two and was told it was £12 for one scone each and a mug, but if I wanted a pot for two and two scones it would be £18. I queried this and was told by two assistant that was right. How can that be right? Ridiculously overpriced even if it cost £12 with a pot. The scone was out of a packet and heated up (probably to soften it up) and wasn’t that thrilling!
