Polite, friendly staff. Enjoyable food, tasty. I used to eat here when it was a restaurant and not a takeaway only. I haven't used it as a takeaway until I thought why not grab a bite on my way home. The restaurant is a real shell now, which is sad. But staff were friendly, food hot and enjoyable. Shame they are not open as a restaurant again, because with the Raj being closed I think they could do well. Will get takeaway again having tried them now. Prices were good too.

We have tried many different Indian restaurants in Reading but this has been the best so far. Quality of the foods has always been top notch and felt vey fresh with vey authentic taste. We ordered both veg and non veg dishes many times and the quality of the food was always top class. Highly recommend this place

The Village is now takeaway only, but us still in the family. The food is just what you want. Never had an issue. And it’s only a few steps from the White Horse, so you can have a beer while you wait. 🍺 Village or Raj? Village wins for me.

My husband and I enjoyed a few drinks to celebrate our anniversary and were intending to go to a different restaurant, but it was raining and cold and we haven't been in the Village tandoori for years. So we popped in there and they had a table available. The gentleman was very nice took our order and served us our drinks. The poppadoms came out they were fresh/crispy and the sauces were very tasty. We then didn't have to wait to long for our mains ! They were so tasty, portion sizes were just right and the bread just melted in your mouth ! After we had finished we then had to go back into the rain but we were warmer and well fed for our journey home ! A lovely unexpected meal Thank you Village Tandoori!

I don't come from Reading,my partner lives there and what I've gathered from the numerous amounts of restaurants we've been to in Reading is that you don't have any decent ones or ones that compare anywhere close to what we have down in Hampshire. The village tandoori was very average food and the decor, Jesus come on! I actually thought my partner was joking when we walked in.

We enjoyed our family curry to celebrate the end of the school year, taking advantage of the bring your own booze option although they do serve drinks. The veggie vindaloo, while not looking very authentic, tasted great if you like it spicy and my family enjoyed their lamb pathia and chicken tikka masala plus a sag paneer side. It was unusually noisy this Friday night due to one group who we moved away from. Some lime pickle with the papadams would have been nice but otherwise we enjoyed the usual swift, friendly service and great tasting food. Opens at 6pm and provides a popular takeaway service.

Don't let the dated interior of the place put you off - the food is great. It's very small, as others have noted, and at times the service was a bit slow. However, just go with that as it's a nice friendly place where you can take your time and enjoy your evening. We were a group of ten, a couple of whom aren't that sold on curries, and everyone of us found the food excellent. The curries had a lovely balance of spice and richness, no matter which one we'd chosen. The naan bread were doughy and tasty. Lastly, the option to bring your own drink meant that this was a good value night out.

No puedo esperar!

A small, traditionally intimate restaurant with friendly staff and tasty, great value food with an option to bring your own wine/beer. Monday and Tuesday offer pappadom/chutney, starter, main, side and rice/naan for £11.95 each and you can always take home what you can't manage. The pickles were simple but well flavoured and the Dal soup was warming on a cold winters evening. We shared veggie Jalfrezi and Pathia with Aloo gobi and Mutter paneer sides (good but I prefer Saag paneer I think). Overall we enjoyed our meal. It is a shame that their website is unavailable; this is a great local curry house that I recommend.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The Village Tandoori popped up when searching Tripadvisor for restaurants where you bring your own wine which is a great saving in the current economic climate. The reviews gave a good rating so for a change thought lets give it a go rather than our regular Wednesday Chamy cheap night out at Mitas Indian Restaurant in Twyford which is also BYO wine.First impressions can sometimes tell you everything but it would be wrong to make conclusions upon what you see when you first arrive. A neat shop front with a Dutch Canopy above giving the restaurant telephone number with a dialling code that disappeared in 1995. Was this going to be a step back in time or a visit that we would regret. Upon entering there were two other customers, well it was a Wednesday night which is not the busiest anywhere so no conclusions to be drawn from that. The general feel was of a tired restaurant that had seen better days in need of some TLC but what the hell we were here to eat not to admire the view. After pappadums followed by starters of Chicken Chat and Bhoona Prawn Puree which were ok, but nothing special, we had Chicken Shashlick, Nawabi Akbori Chicken, and Chicken Tikka Pathia. The Shashlick was chosen as something we have wherever we go and the other two dishes as they were something we had not tried before. It was whilst eating these that we understood why previous reviews had been so good. The Chichen Tikka Pathia was as stated on the menu, hot, sweet and sour which was excellent as was the Nawabi Akbori Chicken which had a refreshing hint of citrus and the Shashlick sizzling away just as it should be. When the dishes first arrived I had horrible reflections of a visit to Miah’s Indian Restaurant in Spencers Wood where four dishes of chicken and lamb all arrived at the table looked identical and even the waiter could not tell them apart and they all even tasted the same. That was a visit never to be repeated.Upon looking at the Nawabi and Pathia dishes it was impossible to tell them apart but the taste of each was much better than had been expected. One disappointment was the Peshwari Nan which was given on the menu as being stuffed with ground nuts which was a slight over statement as there was just a smear inside.During the meal there was a steady flow of people coming in for takeaways and their delivery driver was in and out quite a few times so it is obviously well supported locally. Overall food wise a good experience but do not expect too much by way of ambiance.
