Curry Chef in Reading

Excellent first time trying this curry house,what a surprise food tasted really fresh. And we all enjoyed it. Will definitely be ordering again from them.

Ordered takeaway, arrived at least 10 minutes early, by very friendly and courteous young man. Food packed carefully in small plastic carrier, all tops secure and no leakages. Pilau rice, chicken pasanda, sag aloo, popodoms and dips, all piping hot. The portions were generous, and easily enough for two. The food was delicious, lots of large pieces of chicken in the pasanda, and the sauce was thick and creamy. Lots of spinach in the sag and the rice was colourful and not stodgy. Poppodoms were thin but still whole and not broken. Definitely one of the better takeaways I have had. Only one shortcoming , is I received a text to tell me there is 10% off if ordering online. May have been my oversight but I couldn’t work out where you put that in when ordering. Will order from here again and would recommend to anyone wanting a good Indian takeaway!

This place is within easy walk of the Holiday Inn where we were staying. The food was delicious & the staff were professional and friendly . Wine is very reasonable priced. Worth a visit

Food was 9/10. Service was 9/10. What more can you ask for? Food was excellent and tasted very fresh and not microwaved like few others. Lovely people and peaceful atmosphere. See you guys again and definitely recommend.

Another very nice meal tonight and good wine. The Lamb Madras was nice and tender. The vegetable Dansak was also very tasty. The waiter is always friendly and attentive.

Fantastic evening out with friends as they let us host a quiz there and supply a curry buffet for a good price and there was more than enough. They made sure all dietary requirements were met. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great food and a great price.

Wow. The food was magnificent. The service superb. Do not be fooled by the area or frontage, this is a spectacular venue. And the people are wonderful. I admit that I am not easily pleased. I was very pleased. And likewise our party of seven. Excellent.

Let me tell you, this is a little hidden gem, who would have thought Whitley, Northumberland Avenue could have one! It's a little rundown shopping mall and 1st appearance isn't great. Then you spot the outside planters,inside it's warm, friendly with attentive staff, also loved the feature wall with changing light's. Came here 4 my son's 18th, family party of 8, food was exceptional and they went the extra mile. Will I be coming back again? Damn right!

The taste of Indian cuisine was worst.. its not at all Indian taste.. I am an Indian and I could tell from the taste.. they just put more spices to make the food spicy but its not at all authentic Indian flavor.. just highly spicy or bland food

Best Bangladeshi restaurant in reading.

I went with my wife to this restaurant for a quick dinner. The manager was RACIST, he was rude in a passive aggressive manner asking us if we are new to this country implying that we aren't well cultured enough to be fit in his restaurant. The food was outrageously spicy, although this might be an act of vengeance to make his point clear that we have offended him in some way. So can't really comment on food. But yea such a downer to be here when all u want is a nice meal with a warm service Pathetic 🤢

We were down to catch up with family, as it was early evening we all agreed on a take away. What to go for, fish and chips, Chinese or Indian? After much discussion we decided to go Indian, out came the menus and a neighbour had recommended the Curry Chef, also only four minutes away! We ordered up everything, within seconds I had a ding on my phone confirming order and on line payment, all very easy. Collected said food, all staff were very friendly and chatty, price was very reasonable, even had a couple of freebies. Food was excellent and plenty of it, no complaints whatsoever, will definitely use again on our next visit before Xmas. Btw, message received today reminding us of their £12.95 all you can eat Sunday buffet We wish them every success

We stayed in Reading and saw the high review score. We were not let down, the food was really authentic and delicious. Lamb Dopiaza was flavoursome and my other half had Tandoori Mixed Grill - again amazing flavours

Highly recommend! Food was 10/10 service was 10/10 delivery time was 10/10!! I had the Bombay aloo, tikka korma, chicken achari, pilau rice and lamb chops. Honestly made me refall in love with Asian food and culture. I’m Bengali but haven’t had Asian food in so long and I’m in love Full of flavour

The food was tasty and flavourful. It was also not oily. The hot drink options were very limited and waiter was helpful! Overall a good experience.

Got a take away from here last night, 11/03/23, was excellent, good portions great flavours to the meals. Strongly recommend the chicken pakoras as well as the lamb samosas. Can't wait to dine in soon.

While this restaurant is a little away from the center we found the welcome and the food excellent. What really impressed us was that the staff left just the right amount of time between courses which meant we did feel rushed. My party were visiting Reading and will certainly be coming back when we are next here

My husband and I have been to Curry Chef numerous times and always had fantastic food and great service. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Their Korma is fantastic. Can’t wait to go back again.

I really like this place (we have been a few times now). I think it's main business is Takeaway, but that does not bother us. When we have eaten here, the food is very nice and the service is also very good. We will be back again.

I never normally complain but paying money for that is ridiculous...had korma, peshawar naan and chicken tikka masala. It tasted like it was laced with sugar.. no flavours just sugar..

Booked a table online for Friday during England's World Cup game, hoping that it would be quiet and it was. The restaurant is clean and well presented. We have been before. The staff were attentive and polite. Our food was lovely. We had the Vegetable Buna and the Chicken Vindaloo. Nice bottle of wine also. The prices are reasonable. We parked on the main road and walked back to the restaurant rather than the parking closest to the restaurant, It's just constantly busy with people parking to go to the shop and Chinese takeaway nearby and there's a higher risk of your car being bumped. All in all a very nice visit

I have to say the food was so yummy, yummy and yummy again. The delivery service was on time and the food were hot and tasty. I will try to eat in very soon. Thank you for the lovely food.

Came here with friends for a lovely meal. Welcome was nice, service was good and most importantly, the food was excellent. One thing we all noticed was that the food was served HOT. With some places, the food could come out hotter, this place was perfect. The taste was great for all our dishes and the price was very reasonable. We will be back as a group, I’m sure. Don’t be put off by a quiet restaurant, their main trade is takeaway.

Went for dinner with my husband tonight. Everything was fantastic. We couldn’t fault the service. Food was amazing. We would both highly recommend this restaurant. If you haven’t been, don’t hesitate. Guarantee you’ll love it.

First Indian restaurant we tried in UK based on mixed reviews but it was not at all Indian taste. All veg curries are nothing but boiled potatoes. Paneer tikka masala was deep fried paneer pieces dipped into tomato sauce. Only thing I found which was like India was roti. Not sure about non veg items but this place is not good for Indian vegetarians for sure.

I really thought I’d found a decent curry house Used them often for my usual until tonight. The saag aloo was made with yesterday’s roast potatoes. You know when they’re squashy like rubber. I had one bite and that was it. The rice was dry and hard in places. One mouth full of that too. Not a good sign of quality at all. Quite insulting and a sign there may be issues of finance forcing them to reuse food scheduled for the bin. What else do they save money on? For the sake of saving money and re using some potatoes. Was it worth saving 50p? quality & Customer satisfaction is everything in a restaurant. I won’t be using them again. .

slow delivery (very slow) but the food was good so changed my feedback from 1 star to 4

We always love their curries. The food is always one of the best curries I have ever had. The poppadoms are amazing too , which is perfect with our meal. If you still have not experienced what a perfect curry tasted like then you have not lived.

Food was good, but maybe we should have opted for the takeaway service as the service was poor! A very uninterested waiter/owner who just did not want us to be there. No smile, thank you or even any effort of customer service. We was Randomly offered a discount on the bill, probably because of the bad service, I’m still confused why I got a discount, I didn’t ask. Was happy to get out of there.

We enjoyed a super meal.here. Restaurant was set up nicely and gentleman serving us was very polite. Meal was absolutely delicious. We ate our poppadoms and starters in the restaurant but as our son was so tired we asked if the main meal could be made takeaway, everything was packed and they even thought to give us cutlery. If we are ever back this way again we would happily purchase from here again. A little gem

We loved everything because the food was amazing . The best Indian food in Reading in my opinion. You are missing out if you do not either eat there or have their food as a takeaway option.

What a horrible experience yesterday night. I ordered my food for my 2 children and wife at 8.45pm. We was told it would be 30-45 minutes wait for delivery as a maximum. 1 hour and 30 minutes later we still havent had any food. After 2/3 calls to the restaurant i finally get an answer, that the driver is has left and will be with me very shortly. (The driver arrived 20 minutes later) so when he arrived we thought finally! Guess what we got had some of our order missing so we couldn’t even have our dinner!!!! At 11pm we finally got all our food. What a shambles! Food was ok but to be honest waiting for hours and putting the kids to bed hungry isnt what we were looking for. AVOID!

Food was ok, portions ridiculously small. We ordered a mix grill, first portion was small , second portion we ordered the kebab was cut into the tiniest pieces. Lamb was under cooked. Chicken in mix grill had Zero seasoning, looked terrible, texture of the meat seemed undercooked. Portions was really small, tandoori fish was cut again into the smallest pieces. Sauces and chutney was good. Restaurant looked clean. Nan bread was the best. Deserts, oh dear, don't order, Seemed weird texture, Stale horrid fridge taste.

Had an excellent meal 😋 The chef is 10 10 wow wow the service was fantastic 👌 So professional and friendly. Its had a make over looks lovely.Best Indian in Reading by a Mile .Would recommend you try.

Nice friendly staff, simple decor. Have been coming here for sit down meal and takeaway past year. Mixed grill is good and would recommend the chicken tikka balti and jalfrezi - pretty hot, naans and rice are decent. They don't seem to get the lamb dishes right for my liking feel like boiled and sauce added , meat doesn't taken on the flavour. Happy to give another lamb dish ago next time.

I order from curry chef almost on a weekly basis, and am always really happy with them - fast deliveries, decent prices and excellent food quality - my favorite is there keema naan and lamb briyani yum!

A perfect curry in every way. From the mushroom rice to the lamb Bhuna , chicken korma , everything is perfect. It is a restaurant too but at the moment it can only do takeaway. If you have not had any sublime food from this amazing establishment then you have not truly lived. This a must place to order and when it is safe then you have to experience one of the best restaurants in Berkshire.

The food is an absolute disgrace on Indian food. Their butter chicken was chicken pieces in pumpkin sauce. Avoid this place at all costs.

Como éramos las únicas personas cenando adentro temprano un miércoles por la noche (la comida para llevar estaba más concurrida), la comida solicitada se entregó rápidamente y el servicio fue amable. El restaurante carecía de ambiente, pero esto posiblemente se debió a que cenamos temprano, pero habiendo dicho que estaba impecablemente limpio y muy consciente de Covid.

No teníamos muchas expectativas y mi esposo y yo pedimos la misma comida de varias casas de curry para ver cuál es la mejor cerca de nosotros.Tengo que decir que la presentación, los sabores y la relación calidad-precio fue excelente. Te lo recomiendo mucho.

We visited tonight and thoroughly enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The staff were very attentive and polite. The food was reasonably priced and excellent. It was served quickly and tasted amazing. Definitely the best Indian restaurant we have ever visited.

Considering it wasnt busy, I got worries thinking the food wouldn't be nice, however it was great! The starters was amazing and the curry was perfectly cooked.

First takeaway curry we have had. All freshly cooked to order and every mouthful was sublime. The staff are amazing and all you have to do is order and collect. If you love curries then you will love this.

Nice place nice food nice people. Havn't had an indian meal from there for about 15 years, asked for 2 popperdoms, they gave ne 4 at no extra cost. Very friendly lovelly people. I'll go back again. Hopefully the'll survive the apocolipise wer'e in at the mo. You all take care.

In these dark times of lockdown this was amazing and wonderful food that made me feel good. I just want people to know that they are still open to takeaway. I loved everything about it.

Was a good restaurant to eat at until they changed the guy at the front of house! Very rude trying to shove the bill in my hand and We hadn’t even finished eating, then started tuting and moaning as we wanted to pay 100’s of pounds on debit card and not pay cash! Disgusting behaviour we now use sizzling spice restaurant, lovely people that cant do enough for you.

Lamentablemente, elegimos la comida del buffet y no fue muy bueno. Había solo unos pocos entrantes que no estaban lo suficientemente calientes y no eran muy sabrosos. Había mucha ensalada si prefieres esto. Hubo una selección de platos principales, pero de nuevo no lo suficientemente caliente. El personal era amable y servicial.

Had reason to post a bad review a couple of months ago. Pleased to say that curry chef is back to it's best. All hot all tasty.

My family of four stopped in for dinner this evening, and we all came away very pleased. The prices were reasonable, the portions a good dinner size, and our food was delicious. The owner was friendly and welcoming, and even made a small sample of a dish that I'd asked about. Definitely give this restaurant (or takeaway) a try!

No entiendo por qué este restaurante está siempre vacío.Éramos las únicas dos personas allí.Arrancador - Acabo de pedir unos papadoms. Estos habían sido recién cocinados a diferencia de algunos otros restaurantes. La bandeja de salmuera era increíble.Los platos principales - La comida está recién hecha. Pedí un Ceilán Vegetal y para acompañar un poco de Arroz Chilli. Ambos eran muy sabrosos.Un amigo pidió un curry de cordero y un nan. Realmente disfrutó los sabores del curry cuando dejó el plato impecablemente limpio. JajaTambién tomamos un par de bebidas alcohólicas. Mi vino era agradable y crujiente.Es una pena que cada vez que vamos, solo hayamos estado nosotros o solo nosotros y otra pareja. Piensa que su lado alejado mantiene el negocio en marcha ya que el teléfono estaba siempre lleno de pedidos.Necesitan un letrero "abierto" más grande y más brillante, en mi opinión, para evitar la impresión de que están cerrados.Yo, por supuesto, visitaré de nuevo.

Was pleasantly surprised by this place, I normally always use Alamin but gave this a go tonight. Food was so lovely and portion sizes were amazing in fact ordered the same amount I would need from Alamin but from here turns out I over ordered and was a fantastic amount of chicken in all dishes. Ordered online delivery was fast and was still piping hot, delivery driver was very polite and very smartly dressed. To me that all goes along way too. Will definitely be using Curry Chef again and would highly recommend them......Nice one Curry Chef

Ordered butter chicken which was very sweet. Asked the waiter who was at the counter to help us to order something which is not sweet he claims that butter chicken is a sweet dish. Instead of listening to what we want he was trying to argue that butter chicken is an Indian dish which is always sweet. I can understand the variation in taste. But what we were concerned was the customer care. So we had to ask for the bill instead of ordering more as he was interested in giving us lecture on how butter chicken tastes like.

Good food for a good price too.

I've only had takeaway from here. The food quality has always been excellent. Deliveries have only been late on a handful of occasions over the three or four years I've ordered from here.
