We stumbled across this pub after a bracing walk on the nearby Wiston Estate. Our greeting was friendly, helpful and welcoming, we both selected the salt beef hash from the menu and it was utterly delicious. If the rest of the menu is as good as this dish, you will be assured of a great meal. The decor is a rather dated but don’t be put off - the fabulous service and food more than makes up for it.

This was my Birthday and I invited and I book a table for four. In the coldest evening we were seated in a room which didn’t have any heating. The radiators were cold and fire place only decoration. In the main room there were all tables booked so we sat in coats , not enjoying the experience at all. It was my idea because I was there for a Thai curry before and liked it. This time the curry chicken had tasteless chicken inside. I was embarrassed giving my friend this experience. To have in the winter a room not heated is a shame and hear that the customer will come and warm the room by their bodies was another insult.

Impromptu Thursday night meal for two. We haven't visited here for many years but had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Service was excellent and was matched by the food. Garlic bread to start, beef massaman and Lamb Shawarma for mains. A shared sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for pudding. Good was tasty and well spiced. A few pints of 'Proper job' IPA and soft drinks came to £65 to which we added service. Good value we thought. Definitely somewhere we'd come back to and also recommended to others.

I decided to stay an extra night in Findon as it was a great quaint town to visit in and the Village Houses made it that much more memorable. The pub is classic. Great drinks. Wonderful people and the food was excellent. It didn't hurt that it that the Inn Keeper is drop dead gorgeous and runs the place brilliantly. Makes you appreciate the place that much more. If it continue to raining hard and the train strike goes on will stay here for days to relax and enjoy the county side. Come to Findon near Worthing and stay here. You will love it and have a memory you will not soon forget!!!!!

My 3rd visit to indulge in these really delicious pizzas. So here's the deal. Woodfired pizzas, excellent choice and proper thin base, Italian style. (Italian hubby very impressed!) all served by friendly staff. We sat in the garden early evening very relaxed. Pizzas are on menu every Wednesday evening. Don't miss out if you like a proper homemade pizza. (also takeaway) from a traditional old pub. This will be a regular visit I think!

I have several food allergies including being Celiac, so whenever I get a personal visit from the chef after ordering to make sure they know what I can eat, I know hospitality is at its finest. That’s what I got here at Village House! What was supposed to be a random nearby pub for dinner with my husband after a local meeting ended up being amazingly perfect and another find of legit authentic Thai food in a random English pub (which was a previous similar experience in another part of West Sussex as well). Long story short, genuine Thai food is hard to find in England... and this place has it! Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. Both my gluten-free Thai noodle stir fry dish (a spin on pad see-ew) dish and my husband’s British fish and chips were spot-on. Chef Nit understood all my food allergies and my craving for home-cooked unfussy Thai food. Even though we live a little over 30 minutes away, we will definitely be coming for dinner on Thai Thursdays now! Very happy to recommend for food allergy diners and for authentic Thai food fans.

Having read previous reviews we had high expectations but had some disappointments amongst the good stuff. The good: friendly staff, excellent pint of Harveys, great location and facilities both inside and out, roast chicken pronounced good by the two meat eaters. Good value. Disappointments: two of us are vegetarian and like al dente grub but not crudités served with roast. All four of us struggled with raw broccoli.Potatoes needed crisping up. Vegan nut roast over-cooked and crudely executed. Cauliflower cheese insipid and needs a stronger cheese. Happy to try again as perhaps the Fathers Day rush was taxing the kitchen but with different menu selection.

Celebrating a bunch of belated lock down birthdays we had a great evening. We all chose from the Thai menu. The sharing platter starter was so delicious. Plenty of beautiful bites to share between us. Lovely dipping sauces too. The Main dish seafood curry with noodles was one of the best dishes I've ever tasted. So much flavour and lots of wonderful ingredients. We all really loved the food. Desserts were also exceptional. So light and served with gorgeous ice cream. Great evening all round with our best friends.

I check out the RNR as the brewery had spent a vast deal of money doing it up, and it looks fantastic inside and out. The staff were friendly. I ordered a minute steak with a side of chips from the bar menu. I was taken aback to find the chips were not included in the price and I was charged an extra 4.95 for a bowl of French Fries. The meal in the photo attached is what I got for 16.45. I wanted a large glass of Chablis but when I found it was more than £11, I went for the Pinot which was still nearly 7 quid.

As it was a nice day we sat in the garden, I had a delicious ham sandwich and my friend enjoyed her fish finger sandwich. It came with a salad garnish. It was very good food. Popped in spontaneously for lunchtime snack one Saturday. The sandwich choice is limited but the sandwiches that were produced were tasty and came with a nice side salad. However if you need gluten free you will struggle. The pub admitted they only get GF bread in if someone is staying at the pub needing this as they don't get much demand. We asked if we could have the chicken, bacon & avacado sandwich with salad instead but were told this wasn't possible, the only salad was the one on the main menu (at £13 was not what we wanted). Seemed a little inflexible, disappointing to just eat chips! Dogs welcome and nice enclosed garden. From 3pm they heat up the pizza oven outside.

We arrived here on a Friday night when the pub was packed! We quickly discovered that almost everyone was local to Findon, which in itself is a good recommendation. We thought there was no chance of a table at which to eat food but the staff went out of their way to check the reservations and find us one. They were incredibly busy but the service was amazing. We ordered fish and chips (which was to die for!) and it was freshly cooked and delivered to our table in no time. While we were waiting the customers around us chatted to us about the village and where we were staying etc, and made us feel really welcome. The pub is dog-friendly and so we were able to relax with our young dog for the evening in most enjoyable surroundings. Other villages would do well to take a leaf out of Findon's book!

My husband and I stayed here recently for two nights and were extremely disappointed. The car park is very small and when one is staying over night you don't want to leave your car on the narrow roads. The room was shabby..ripped wallpaper, doorknob missing from the wardrobe, a mirror positioned behind the television.. so useless. When you wanted to boil the kettle, the plug was near the skirting board so you had to get on your knees and put the kettle on the carpet. The bathroom window was open and wouldn't shut. The heating wasn't working and the bathroom was very cold. The door key was tricky to use. The central light only had two out of the three bulbs working and took a good 10 miutes to be of any use. There was only one bedside lamp. The only plug sockets were next to the kettle unless you scrambled on your hands and knees under the dressing table. The coat hangers were terrible...either plastic and broken or wire. The room was very noisy in the morning due to bring by the road.

After being recommended to the village house for a family birthday meal I was absolutely amazed with how incredibly disappointing this restaurant truly is. After booking a month in advance. There was no one to greet us at the door and the place looked like an utter shambles with no staff to be seen. We were seated on a tiny table by a young girl with an attitude who looked like we were a complete inconvenience to be there. The menu showed a variety of roast dinners, however we were told they had run out of roast dinners with no apology at all. There was only 3 mains on the menu to choose from and we decided to leave shortly after. With high expectations of this place the experience was disappointing and there was no apology considering it was a birthday meal for 6 people. I would recommend anyone reading this to not choose this restaurant if you are celebrating an occasion as you will only be disappointed by the rude staff and lack of food this restaurant has available.

We were looking for food in this lovely village and had the choice of two pubs, one Asian restaurant and one high class bistro restaurant, all within view of each other so you can check them out easily before committing yourself. We chose The Village House because it suited our mood. Built in 1527 there was a cosy atmosphere. It was obviously popular, I suspect with a predominantly local clientele. The buzz was of conversation rather than overloud music. As usual I went for the real ales and was delighted to see a range that were new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed "Devil's Dyke" a well rounded local porter, delicious. The blackboard menu suggested that we were in the hands of an adventurous and talented chef. There were only 8 main courses, average price £12, but that ensured an interesting selection, that remained within the control of a small kitchen. We both had the seafood casserole which was superb, if the rest of the menu was as good I could eat here happily for a very long time.

Very overrated. Might be handy for locals however, beer very expensive. Food also really expensive for the quality and there is no consistency. At these prices for pub food when considering their food standards rating has dropped to 2 last year it is not acceptable and a bit of a joke really. Will definately not return.

Visited for a family celebration lunch for about 25, which just about filled their restaurant. A nice old pub/restaurant serving good home-made dishes from a wide menu. The pub part is pretty traditional, with a separate room for dining -nice old building, full of character. If it was my local I'd be using bit a lot!

What a fantastic find. Just stopped one quiet mid-week afternoon in need of some lunch and was served a delicious monkfish and king prawn red thai curry. It was very reasonably priced and the portion generous - I was chuffed. Enjoyable to sit out in the garden and eat such lovely food! Decor a little tired but I think the service and food makes up for it!

OK we visit the VH on a regular basis so regard it as our local but with other good options nearby we are spoilt for choice so could go elsewhere. Tops for us is the friendly service - everybody is welcoming and very attentive. Sometimes the menu choices can be a little limited but the food is always enjoyable. This is a well run establishment which we recommend wholeheartedly.

My wife and I visited today for lunch, access and parking is easy but allow a little extra time during busy periods as their lunch service was quite busy today. Their menu is wide and varied, catering for most tastes, appetites and budgets. My wife had the chicken and tarragon pie, I had the monk-fish and prawn Thai green curry. The pie was superb with just the right amount of tarragon flavour and the veg was perfectly cooked. My curry was also superb, accompanied by properly cooked rice, good quality prawn prawn crackers and chilli dipping sauce. Even the mandatory bay leaves were present. Absolute quality. Conclusions:If I'm pressed to mention minor faults, interior decoration is starting to look a bit tired and the tile grouting in the gents toilets would benefit from a steam clean around the sink area. I did however like the electric hand-drier, reminded me of once standing near a Vulcan Bomber when the pilot was reving up the engines for take-off !Prices are very reasonable for this area.Service is well above the norm, I think everyone in that busy bar / restaurant area got a visit from the waitress checking everything was OK with their meals.Recommendations:Go by bus, it's a regular service and stops almost on the pub's doorstep. It would also give the real ale drinkers an opportunity to sample their extensive range of beers and lagers.

For food, drinks and service the bar and restaurant deserve a higher ranking. My wife and I have twice had the 'Two dine for £25 including a bottle of wine, (two courses)'. This is superb value and an excellent menu to choose from, shame it's only on offer on Tuesday nights! The food is wonderfully presented and of excellent quality. Should you wish to choose from the varied menu on the blackboard, again you will be very satisfied. It is difficult to believe that a village pub/hotel can offer such a selection and quality. We have eaten there may times and will continue to do so.

We hosted a wake here after a funeral at Worthing Crematorium. The location is very convenient, in the centre of the village of Findon and just on the opposite side of the dual carriageway past the crematorium. The publican tried hard to please and provided a generous spread of sandwiches, pastries, cakes and hot nibbles, together with tea and coffee for a reasonable price. There was no pressure for our guests to buy alcohol, but it was available. The pub is an old coaching inn and the traditional style room with a lovely fireplace and wooden beams was just right for a party of 25-30 people. We were very pleasantly surprised with the pub because it was not amongst the top 3 that our undertaker recommended. I would wholeheartedly recommend for a small-ish wake or party.

We booked for one night as a stop over before going on to our destination the next day its a 500 year old coaching house so you expect quirkiness the room was a good size and was very clean but the carpet could do with a clean the room was warm and the bed was comfortable except there was no headboard we also had a meal the restraint bar was very busy and the place had a good feel to it food was very nice and was served quick the staff were very pleasant and were an asset to the pub the breakfast was also very good all in all it was a good experience and I would recommend for a quick stop over

We enjoyed our food even though my steak was medium instead of rare and my husbands Veal Milanaise was huge. We asked to take away the cheese board from the menu which was packed for us in boxes, but when we opened them there were a few cheeses and crackers with no butter, chutney or grapes that we would have expected if we had stayed at the restaurant to eat them. All in all I didn't think it was good value for money.

I have visited the Village House many times in the past but not for a while.Had cause to visit with a colleague for a business meeting earlier this week.Very friendly staff, the Village House is a combination of a friendly pub, restaurant and hotel set in the lovely village of Findon just north of Worthing. My colleague decided on a steak. I must confess that whilst I enjoy steak I often find that restaurant steaks fail to come up to expectations but as we were quite late I thought it would be easier if we had the same meal.Good choice! The steak was quite superb, cooked perfectly, full of taste and beautifully tender.I then decided to go for the creme brulee which was again excellent.A very, very good meal.

Sunday Lunch, excellent choice of roasts, massive portions, exceptional value for money. The service is good as well, the only downside was the screaming child, but that is outside their control.

This is our favourite pub in Findon. The atmosphere is great and the staff are really friendly. Its a really nice informal village pub and the food is great too. The Thai curries are fantastic and there is a large choice of other food. If you are looking for a relaxed lunchtime/evening meal in a lovely village then you can't go wrong with this venue.

We stayed at the Village House in Findon for a weekend break. Our party used two doubles and one single room. All three rooms were clean and well stocked with towels, soaps, shampoos, biscuits and chocolate. the beds were comfortable. Each room has at least a TV, hairdryer, wardrobe and en-suite.The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, our breakfast was superb, and was served by very polite staff. We did not eat there in the evening for no other reason than we were elsewhere with relatives, but the menu looked good and varied. The owner has a small dog and dogs are allowed in the bar, so as long as you are not allergic to them this is the place to consider.

We have been to the Toby Carvery in Goring for years but this visit was extremely disappointing and one of the worst visits we have ever had. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the front of the house hostess, who had such a nonchalant attitude, it was hard to feel welcome. She took forever finding our booking, staring vacantly at her screen and then proceeded to quickly show us to our table and left back in a hurry, mumbling something which made us feel like an inconvenience. We were surprised to be sat in the bar area since we had specifically requested NOT to be sat there so went back to her and she simply stated that the other side of the restaurant was for disabled people only (???). This bears to question as to how disabled people can make it up the stairs in the main restaurant area? When we went to the carvery to get our lunch, we only saw one person in a wheelchair and the rest of the guests were not showing any disabilities anywhere in that part of the restaurant. One of us requested a bit of everything from the all the meats and was given literally crumbs from the turkey and tiny slithers from the other meat joints. I would never dare serving such pitiful portions at home to my family. The carver serving was swearing quite blatantly in front of the guests "we do bloody everything here" and rushing people with their orders, again, not the welcome you would expect when you pay to go out for lunch. The mash had run out so I requested a new pot and had to stand there for 5 minutes before some new mash was brought out, while the rest of the vegetables on my plate were going cold. Paying £15 for slithers and crumbs of meat and £12.99 for a meat free carvery (having simply veg on the plate) is a very steep price especially when the environment is not welcoming. If there has been a recent change in management, you may want to rethink your new staff and bring the old staff back as the previous front of the house manager was always welcoming and could never do enough to help. A very disappointing experience, not conducive to renewing a visit anytime soon.

Sadly during these challenging times a warmer welcome could be had. To be told closing in half an hour, before being welcomed is sad to hear.
