Sadly during these challenging times a warmer welcome could be had. To be told closing in half an hour, before being welcomed is sad to hear.

Nice venue, staff helpful, good covid precautions. Sadly food disappointing especially compared to a previous visit. I had curry. Didn't expect it to be like an Indian but my chicken was tough as if it had been microwaved and it had clearly not been cooked in the sauce but added later. The sauce was watery and lacking in flavour. My friends were not impressed with their food either. Would come again but not for food.

On Sun 26th July 2020 we had a welcome return so Live music in the welcoming and very large garden of The Cricketers in Broadwater Worthing. The event, an acoustic unplugged open mic event was very well organised and was well attended with over 20 acts performing and many appreciative audience members enjoying a relaxed afternoon of music and entertainment. The staff were exemplary in their service and the whole affair was managed in a very positive COVID safe manner.Overall, the beer was flowing, the coffee hot, the food was yummy and the music made the afternoon complete.I look forward to the next open mic event on the weekend of 22nd August

Great to be able to visit a pub again, even with hygiene and safety for fellow customers and staff a matter of priority. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with compliance to new rules regarding contact details. Such a pleasure to sit in the beautiful garden on a sunny evening with a cool drink. Very grateful to the pubs and restaurants working hard behind the scenes to allow us all to get back to some safe normality.

In this strange world of hand no sanitizer, masks and social distancing choosing which establishment to spend your hard earned money in is now a minefield. There are places who are still friendly and welcoming and try to reduce any impact that current restrictions have on customer's enjoyment. The second kind are run by rude, power- hungry jobsworths who seem to take a perverse pleasure in strictly enforcing the 'rules' which ends up alienating the very people who keep their establishment afloat. Unfortunately the Cricketers in West Worthing falls strictly into the latter camp. At the weekend we were unfortunately witness to a nasty altercation between the staff, manager and a couple of regulars against a poor young family that frankly bordered on abuse and bullying. Not wishing to go into detail we can confirm that the manager was extremely rude and obnoxious and obviously took exception to the presence of customers who were not regulars. The staff were also hysterical about social distancing (although didn't seem to practise it themselves) and were also unfriendly, unwelcoming and rude. Once a couple of obvious regulars chipped in with nasty comments against this innocent group we decided that we had had enough and left in disgust. On reflection we wish that we had stepped into help but trying to reason with hysterical, miserable jobsworths like the staff in this pub is like trying to persuade a lion to let go of your neck once they get hold of you. I assume the recent negative review of this place is from the people involved and I can confirm that everything they said is true. I would advise anyone who wants a nice quiet drink in a relaxed welcoming environment to stay a million miles away from The Cricketers in West Worthing.

Staff are acting like little Hitler's. I was there today as I was asked to play at a music event. To begin with I was refused entry on account of the fact the garden was full, despite me telling them I'd been asked to play. When I mentioned I had 4 family members already in the garden they reluctantly let me in. However I was forced to leave my details from a very hostile doorman (presumably the manager but couldn't be certain) despite this not actually being mandatory, I told him I felt very uncomfortable doing this as was told in a very unfriendly manner that I didn't have to leave my details, however he would refuse entry. Ordinarily I would have left however I'd already made a commitment to play. I finally got in and reached my family only to be pounced on almost instantly and lectured about social distancing by a masked member of staff, despite me not being anywhere near anyone else other than the group of people I was with. This member of staff was stood about an inch from me, telling me about social distancing. I couldn't quite believe it. I was told (not asked) that I had to move my daughters buggy which was parked next to the table a d that I had to sit down (I was stood next to the table with my 15 month old daughter who I'd just taken out of said buggy). I hadn't had a chance to sit at that point. Her tone was very condescending a d unfriendly and I felt like a naughty 5 year old, despite me not doing anything wrong. It was rather humiliating. If that wasn't bad enough, whilst expressing my upset to my family about the horrible experience I was then shouted at by another member of the public about giving the staff a break and that I needed to wind my neck in. I was perfectly polite to the staff member despite her tone upsetting me. This guy and his wife had no reason to abuse me. I appreciate it is not the fault of the staff that this guy had a go at me, however it does give a feel to the type of person who frequents this place (he told me he was a local) and I must say from start to finish it was an awful environment and a horrible experience. I ended up leaving and not performing as I felt so unwelcome. I would like to add that there was a young blonde girl serving us who was amazingly polite and very aminable when we asked her permission to put the parasol up at the table soI thank her for not making the whole experience completely dreadful.

We had my mum's wake here and it was perfect for a small family get together. We had a small buffet and took over half of the restaurant which was very secluded and private for our gathering. The log burner was on and lent a very cozy feeling to the room. There was also a real fire in the main bar which was comforting on a cold February day.The buffet was very good and included a tasty selection of sandwiches, vol au vents, breaded mushrooms and mozzarella sticks, crudites and dips. Very unobtrusive service and helpful bar staff made our visit go without a hitch on the sad occasion. Very welcoming local, friendly, personal pub which we would recommend without hesitation.

We are local and visit regularly. We arrived for our lunch today and the place was not yet busy. The menu was very disappointing from our view as a family - no lamb on offer on Easter Sunday! Very bizarre. Starters were unimaginative and not a good selection especially if you are vegetarian. Not all vegetarians eat fish and goats cheese and Broccoli & Stilton soup doesn't seem like a good spring soup option in my opinion! Service in the past is normally pleasant and whilst today staff were not rude we felt rushed from almost the moment we sat down being told the table was required back at 2pm for the next sitting. Staff need to learn to be discreet when a restaurant is not yet at capacity rather than stand at a distance and stare at the 2-3 families eating or busy themselves with other tasks. So overall a mediocre experience, we felt we could not relax and enjoy our meal and have had better meals here in the past.

Just wanted to write a review after our recent visit for a Mother’s Day lunch to the Cricketers. Despite them being obviously extremely busy in both the restaurant and bar, I must say the service we received in both areas was excellent. Fortunately we had the foresight to book ahead, as when we called a few weeks in advance to reserve our table for 4 we were lucky enough to secure their last reservation. The roast dinner was superb, all fresh ingredients and very good value. It’s nice to have a family friendly pub/restaurant where the staff are so welcoming. A mention to the behind the scenes staff in the kitchen who managed to cater for a very busy afternoon, where all meals arrived in a timely manner and very tasty. We have eaten in the restaurant in the evening before, which has always been good, but now will definitely return for more Sunday roasts!

As a regular visitor to the cricketers over the past couple of years, we have come to rely on this local pub as a hidden gem for excellent food despite its modest ambience. However our past couple of visits have been a real let down, despite still offering a menu indicating dishes that you would expect of a food orientated gastro pub, they seem to have forgotten or lost interest in producing the dishes to any decent standard. We felt somewhat embarrassed upon taking visiting friends here on the premise of a wonderful dining experience, but where served awful fare by an awfully grumpy, unapologetic waitress.Such a shame that it appears the chef has lost his/her love for the job.

I called up nearly 3 weeks ago to reserve a table for a lunch time meal with friends, I was asked if we would require the Christmas menu or the regular one. As I wasn't sure I said I would check & get back to them. A few days later I called back & confirmed that we all wanted the regular menu & confirmed once again the time & date. All was ok, or as I thought. I then received a voicemail message asking me which menu I wanted, I called & confirmed again that I required the regular menu & date & time of meal. A few days later my husband took a message asking me which menu I wanted. I called again & confirmed all details. Today I received a call from the manager asking me what menu I wanted, I told him that all 6 of us wanted the regular menu. He then advised me that as he had a Christmas party in that I couldn't have the regular menu unless we arrived at mid day & pre ordered or have the Christmas menu & we could then arrive at our booked time but once again I would have to pre order. I explained that I couldn't get in touch with the rest of the people coming to get their pre order. He said there was nothing he could do & that they couldn't cope unless I did the pre order.I think to do this to us 1 week before we were due to go out for our meal is disgraceful. I am now left with trying to find somewhere else at short notice. I will never make a reservation at this pub again as I can't trust them. Clearly they just don't care enough, they didn't even offer a gesture of goodwill should I have continued with the booking. There are plenty of other pubs around serving food & I will be going to them in the future.

We decided to give this place a second chance to get things right - oh dear. On the previous occasion we were charged a ridiculous price for a glass of wine but as it was local to where we were staying, it was getting late and our usual pub was not serving food we tried again. The web site and sign outside the door informed us that food was served until 9pm and although we went in at 8.30, we were refused with no good reason being given. Unfortunately we had already ordered our drinks so couldn't really turn round and walk out. I have to say, the food was amazing - lovely salad on the side, perfectly cooked delicious chips and the main dish, I had a stilton burger and loved every mouthful of it. my classmate had sausage and mash that also had thumbs up. the atmosphere is very friendly and warm, everyone feels welcome. the interior is very sweet with its quirky pieces of décor, that add to the cozy, traditional pub a homely feel. the garden is lovely, again with a mix of chesterfield style sofas and cottage-y looking cupboard under the covered area, plenty of seating outside, children area and even outdoor oven for those short but lovely summer days. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and I will certainly be back.

When it's raining there are also lots of little nooks and crannies to sit in and the best bit is they have a resident cat, called Percy, who is happy to come and sit on your lap for a cuddle. All the bar staff are really friendly and this makes for great service. Visited as a part of a group of twelve or so pleasure cyclists over the bank holiday weekend. We came in, in staggered groups of 4-6 cyclists over a period around ten minutes from around 1345hrs.There was ample seating free in the bar restaurant and in the garden but we were made to feel distinctly unwelcome at the bar and service was slow, and with an edge, along with comments about been one of "those cyclists". Friends we were cycling with had the same experience at the bar and were told they couldn't order food until the kitchen had confirmed stock levels, resonable but delivered in a off hand manor. When our food came my burger was average and my wife's order was wrong, she had ordered the Pork belly without mash or the cream sauce, and some chips, she got the Pork belly with mash and cream sauce and chips on the side. When she complained the pork was taken away and lifted of the mash and put on a clean plate and brought back.We were surprised, that this pub seemed surprised that paying customers would be out on a bank holiday looking for food and drink and seem quite shocked to have to deal with customers.I can't see us returning here give the other options we discovered on our otherwise fun ride.

A traditional old pub with excellent food. My husband had a sunday roast with all the trimmings, meat, veg, roast potatoes, yorkshire pud - I asked for a "low carbohydrate version" and the chef knew what to do and I had chicken and low car veg - which was no trouble. There was no long wait, the food was served by a lovely friendly waitress and nothing was too much trouble. I have a vegan daughter who they say they will happily accommodate on our next visit!

We visited all three Broawater pubs in one evening and this was by far the most expensive. It's a pity that they don't spend some of those takings on replacing the threadbare carpet in the bar area. Most of the pub looked like it could use a bit of a spruce up. We won't dash back I'm afraid.

My wife and I visited for lunch Friday 26 Feb, one of the few proper pubs left. It's clean, tidy and the staff are friendly. The Bar is what it says it is, several chatty locals enjoying a drink, low conversation and no swearing to be heard anywhere.Their Dining Area is good too, not flash but thoughtfully spaced tasteful furniture with access to a huge garden and play area.Food, very nice. I had the chicken and bacon sandwich, my wife chose their soup-of -the-day. Two good dishes. Of particular interest to us was a small room decorated very nicely in Victorian/Edwardian style. Very much in keeping with the building and furniture we thought. "Nice place for a ladies lunch photograph" said one lady. The only downside is the Dining Area carpet !! As the main thoroughfare to the garden and kitchen, it has seen more foot mileage than a marathon runner !!

I stopped in here last night for dinner between 2 appointments. Food was fantastic (I had the fish pie) and promptly delivered as promised (I had to rush off straight away). Extremely reasonably priced too! Locals were really friendly and the waitress that served me was attentive and chatty! The only thing I would comment on is that the bar staff could be more welcoming, although they did, very kindly, let me charge my dead phone before ordering. Overall, really pleasing visit and will definitely be returning.

I visited here yesterday with my wife and three children for Sunday lunch. Food was fantastic and reasonably priced. The service was very attentive and we had a lovely meal. Highly recommend eating here as better than most restaurants in the area. Will defiantly be going back very soon.

If you want a traditional local pub, with the most amazing food, look no further. The staff are really friendly and make you feel welcome. We love popping in for lunch and the food is amazing. Produce is locally sourced and is always fresh. Check the menu on the website or better still go and try the food.I organise a Christmas party each year for around twenty people and we have now had four years running at The Cricketers. Everyone loves the food, the size of the servings and the friendliness of everyone.Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed

Our group of 30 have just had our Christmas outing at this pub. Always a little wary when there are so many of us to cater for but we need not have worried. The food was really good, tasty and plentiful. The service was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. I would recommend this pub without hesitation.

Not a wine bar or a scrubbed pine gastro pub. A pub. Looks like a pub, smells like a pub and has the interior light that comes from having exclusively opaque windows and dark carpets. If you want updated, go to Wetherspoons. I came for lunch with a friend, it was very good and we sat in the garden to eat it which was sizeable and pleasant. The food was well presented, plentiful and tasted lovely. I have recommended it and I know my friend has since been back with others.

The cricketers has a great garden for families and kids with a large play area, we had been here many times before so though we would get some food one Friday afternoon. Bad move... whilst the adult mains were very average for the price, the kids meals, burger and chips had to be sent back because of the awful state and poor quality of the burger which can only be described as a tasting like lard with the texture of cardboard. To their credit they did change this for an adult homemade burger, but why they are passing off what is clearly the worst quality frozen burgers they can possibly get their hands on for a kids meal is beyond me. We won't be eating here again. Nice for a few drinks but don't risk the food.

Went for Sunday roast, not impressed, meat was difficult to cut, spuds tasty but not very roasted. Yorkshire pud was soggy, and veg was undercooked, overall the flavours were nice. Food came very quick, but the place was empty. We felt it lacked atmospher. The waitress service was good, very friendly and helpful. But having to listen to the man (presumably the chef). Shouting and swearing in the kitchen was not good. Wouldn't go back

Have been coming to The Cricketers for food regularly now for the past 4 months and can honestly, in my opinion, say that it is the best eatery of it's kind in the local area. It is clear that the food is home cooked, the quality and freshness is such a welcome relief from mainstream pub 'freezer to mic' pre portioned meals. Only minor grumble would be that, on sunny day, the garden can get quite busy leading to clientele regularly traversing through the sliding doors linking the restaurant area to the bar and the garden. Probably just being a bit pernickety here! This is the first time I've felt the need to take the time to write a review for anything, Keep up the great work! Jacqueline

We came here when visiting friends who live in the area. This pub is very cosy, has some great ales on tap and very welcoming and friendly owners. There are several real fires, which we appreciated (we visited just before Christmas) and in summer there is also a very nice looking garden. The pub is also very dog friendly and there are two resident dogs and a cat. We did not have a meal, so I cannot comment on the food, but the ales were fantastic and we felt very much at ease here. This would definitely become my second home if I lived closer.

The pub is very dated and wouldn't be a first choice. However the food board outside looked very interesting so we went in. The meal was much more than we expected. Very enjoyable. Thank you.

Surprised by the other reviews. Service was ok but the food is very average. Cheap but not good quality, the salad hadn't been washed, the baked potato was very obviously microwaved (and had some hard lumps in). We had soup, a baked potato and a sandwich. We could have just picked badly but it was all average to be honest.

I hadn't been to the Cricketers for years but was pleasantly surprised when I went earlier this week with a friend. The menu offers plenty of choice and was great value. My friend and I both wanted Scallops as a main rather than a starter and the chef was happy to oblige. The food was cooked to perfection - a real treat! I will most certainly be back soon.

This is a lovely, welcoming traditional pub. The service is friendly, the food is fantastic and there's a warm, cosy atmosphere that is so hard to find these days. What really makes it are the staff who work like demons, but always with a smile. I will be back!

We went into the Cricketers recently as a meeting place before we went out for dinner with some friends. The pub is a traditional local with loads of charm, a massive beer garden and what looks like logs fires for the winter. We were greeted with a warm welcome and good service. The ales were excellent and my wife was more than happy with the wine selection. As we were having a drink we noticed some quite nice looking food going out, and decided to cancel our previous reservation with our usual restaurant and eat where we were. The menu was a mix between a grill menu and pub classic, but we were told a new menu wasn't far off. We had baked blue Camembert and crispy poached eggs as shared starters and have to say they were some of the best starters we can remember (so much so we ordered another crispy poached egg with parsnip puree). We all ordered the pork belly for our mains and glad we did, it was fabulous. This place has now become our preferred restaurant of choice, we even signed up on their website which gives you the first choice on any deals before they go public. We would happily recommend the Cricketers to everyone.

We have been to the Toby Carvery in Goring for years but this visit was extremely disappointing and one of the worst visits we have ever had. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the front of the house hostess, who had such a nonchalant attitude, it was hard to feel welcome. She took forever finding our booking, staring vacantly at her screen and then proceeded to quickly show us to our table and left back in a hurry, mumbling something which made us feel like an inconvenience. We were surprised to be sat in the bar area since we had specifically requested NOT to be sat there so went back to her and she simply stated that the other side of the restaurant was for disabled people only (???). This bears to question as to how disabled people can make it up the stairs in the main restaurant area? When we went to the carvery to get our lunch, we only saw one person in a wheelchair and the rest of the guests were not showing any disabilities anywhere in that part of the restaurant. One of us requested a bit of everything from the all the meats and was given literally crumbs from the turkey and tiny slithers from the other meat joints. I would never dare serving such pitiful portions at home to my family. The carver serving was swearing quite blatantly in front of the guests "we do bloody everything here" and rushing people with their orders, again, not the welcome you would expect when you pay to go out for lunch. The mash had run out so I requested a new pot and had to stand there for 5 minutes before some new mash was brought out, while the rest of the vegetables on my plate were going cold. Paying £15 for slithers and crumbs of meat and £12.99 for a meat free carvery (having simply veg on the plate) is a very steep price especially when the environment is not welcoming. If there has been a recent change in management, you may want to rethink your new staff and bring the old staff back as the previous front of the house manager was always welcoming and could never do enough to help. A very disappointing experience, not conducive to renewing a visit anytime soon.

I have visited this cafe twice now with my father in law who is in a wheelchair and frail. Both times the staff have been so welcoming, not minding me doing furniture moving to get dad into a spot where he will be happy. They have also been very understanding about my requests for the way dads drinks are made. We haven't eaten there yet, but the food looks lovely and everyone I have seen has cleared their plates. They also have a children's play area for younger children. I would recommend this cafe to everyone.

Lovely spot especially if you can get an outside table. Shame the windows have the bars across but can still see the sea and beach. Food and drink is of the cheap and cheerful price point. We had cheese burger and chips, the burger was a very good size and tasty. They have cakes, cookies and other snacks, all far cheaper than other venues locally. The staff are lovely, so polite, chatty, and efficient. It makes a change to have such good service these days. We have been back a few times recently because we enjoyed the food and service. It's not for everyone, but the prices more than reflect that. My only negative would be the opening hours don't necessarily match that advertised online.

Needs cleaning though, sticky tables, sauces everywhere; Chips and god knows what all under the tables and dirty cutlery Not good
