Toby Carvery in Worthing

Appears to be a nice pub, with friendly staff and the food was good on the Friday lunchtime we visited. A chip-free pub on all accounts, which makes a nice change. Sadly during the lunchtime we visited there was no hand soap, and the hand dryer was broken, in the gents toilets. The carvery is popular so be prepared to wait a good 10 or so minutes during busy lunch times. Sadly not the easiest place to park if driving, as spaces are limited, especially during busy periods.

Excellent night at the Toby the evening Esme was absolute champ with the service and all her recommendations for food were spot on. She really knows her stuff Would absolutely visit again soon

This place is going downhill. Make you pay for your breakfast before you get there to find out there is nothing hopefully someone looks at this and thinks we need to fix this. Please avoid at all costs. Breakfast is a pile of cold crap.

Wouldn't recommend as the Carvery was very disappointing. Cauliflower cheese was hard & under cooked. The roast potatoes were over cooked & tough. The Gammon was dry & yorkshire pudding was tasteless

Unhappy with the service. Needed a passport to have a nonalcoholic beer at a restaurant despite the law being able to drink an alcoholic drink with a meal at the age of 16. The manger could not comply with the law as he was worried he may be sent to prison for serving an 18 year old a non alcoholic beer. This company have gone above and beyond the law of the UK to limit the simplest of freedoms and enjoyments in the manner in which they feel. The liberty of exercising individual rights are being eroded at every step and even just by sitting down with a family and having Sunday lunch is being restrained to another’s personal views.

Came for breakfast with 2 friends Food was delicious and coffee always topped up and hot. Staff from the kitchen was always in and out checking the food wasn’t running low Wasn’t too busy so me and my friends could have a lovely chat without having to shout Will definitely go again

Came in here the other day with my partner and are friends to come in and be told that it was fully booked and we couldn’t just walk in. This was fine as we hadn’t booked. We thought we would go online and see if there was any spaces to eat later on in the day only to be surprised to be able to book for the time we arrived. After booking and walking in to the same man and saying we had booked, we got seated. He was very snappy and also did this with another family. Odd experience

As on all our previous visits everything was great, food really fabulous & service exceptional, very friendly staff.

Had a pre booked table for 6 on Sunday 26/01@ 15.00. We arrived in time to be informed that they were experiencing a flood and the restaurant was closed. This happens to be the third time, time before water was flooding from the kitchen, then another time notice on door explaining they were closed due to staff shortages. Becoming a habit. We had driven over from Brighton, couldn't a staff member have informed us so as to save a journey. We found a local pub in Hove, but unfortunately the children were so disappointed as they like the gammon at Toby. Let us hope next that time everything is working order. Unfortunately i cannot answer any of the below questions as we didn't get anything.

We visited the Toby carvery for breakfast yesterday (Sunday) 2/2/25. I was extremely disappointed having used this venue for many years Including back when it was called the George. We queued for our breakfast and I requested scrambled eggs which one of the workers behind the counter went to make. I waited there for 10 minutes with my plate of food to add the scrambled eggs and nobody came out. I went back to my table to put the plate down, then returned to the counter where I was told that the eggs had been given out already! Obviously, not to me. By the time I returned to sit down my food was virtually cold. We queued for another 10 minutes to make some toast and all in all with queueing to get a hot Drink it was not a pleasant experience and cost me £40 for the four of us. I never did receive the scrambled eggs.Very disappointed.

Good for a Sunday carvery...had a turkey roast dinner

The choice of meat was good but the vegetable choice was poor. No sprouts or parsnips ,they are in season. I ordered a child's carvery for my grandson. One of the sausages was very overcooked and he could not eat that or the macaroni cheese because it was cold and had very little cheese flavour. We were not offered a credit for this.

I have visited your restaurant few times. It's always good food. This time I got a Too good to go meal. Most was just veg. Carrots, peas and cauliflower. No yourkshire pudd, all roast over cooked, and mash with roast. I not want 2 type of potatoes. One meat only turkey. Should least get 2 types. It flet like just chucked in. Service was like here you go buy. Barely looked at the order on my phone. I stick to the nice pleasant staff and eat in. Wont recommend this to anyone. I even advise against it.

If customers are queuing out of the door then everything works beautifully. Food is great and service is friendly and prompt. But it’s a completely different experience if you are coming in during quiet periods. We had a 7.30pm booking tonight, the carvery was basically full of scraps. Scraping the bowl of gravy to get some, meat dry, and everything tasted like it had been on the heat for hours. The service falls apart as well, waitresses on their phones and nobody behind the bar. The kids drinks machine served me fizzy brown water too, obvs nobody has checked on the syrups for days. Needs managing properly in quiet times. The site at Downlands offers a better experience at any time of day.

From booking to seated it's perfect, to top it off great choices of food all piping hot. Attentive staff complete a perfect meal out

We went here on Boxing day (26th Dec 2024) and had a fantastic festive set menu, including a starter and a main course. We were given wonderful service by Zara (The Manageress) who was so giving and attentive to our needs, on such a busy day. We will certainly be back next Boxing Day, if not before.

Excellent staff friendly and efficient the food was tasty. I’m gluten free and often staff make me feel a nuisance I therefore felt I had to tell you how much I appreciated Tom the carvery chef he checked to see if I could have the roast potatoes which gravy I could have and offered ordinary cauliflower as I could not have the cauliflower cheese. Thank you so much for your concern and kindness

The food was rather tasteless and the gravy was watery. The Yorkshire pudding was rubbery. We usually eat there once a week but will be looking for other options now as it was not nice food

Popped in for an impromptu lunch with my husband and mother in law. Didn’t have to wait too long to be sat and our order taken. Fantastic carvery, really tasty and good portions. Sophie, who served our table, was courteous and helpful and made our visit better still. Highly recommend

We were booked for 1430. I think this is the second run with the first being 12 as we had to wait 10 mins or so for fresh meats to come out and they basically put all fresh out veg. It was well worth the wait , the beef and lamb were so succulent. Spuds lovely not the recooked ones you get. Couldn’t fault it, the best of a Toby carvery. Bought the free refill drinks as well so fully fed and watered for £15.

Place was full of young(ish) men, lots of very loud shouting and swearing. No staff or management bothered to ask them to "keep it down". It was like breakfast in a canteen full of...

My friend brought me here years ago, so when I revisited Worthing last December we went there again. I enjoyed the food as I wanted to re-experience a typical english meal.

Lovely carvery well worth a visit. Down load the app and we got 25%off the bill. Visited again Fri 10th Jan. Even better food and staff were fantastic and we got 50% of main meals. Bargain.

The Carvery was great, everything kept topped up so you didn't miss out on any veg, serving staff polite, table waitress lovely. Area for improvement would be not to let too many people queue for Carvery at once. It was so busy, people were queuing all around the restaurant so you were eating (once you could get past the crowds to your table) with people stood around you which wasn't very pleasant. I'm sure, years ago, you used to wait at your table until the waitress told you you could go up, that way the queue never got to long and didn't encroach on people eating. We did go when it was 50% off mains so it was particularly busy.

A traditional carvery. I never leave hungry. I tend to visit when I have an offer as it is now £10.49 for a carvery main meal.

Newly refurbished. Feels clean and brighter. Very busy on Sundays. The best Yorkshire puds and roasties.

all the meats and the veg are very good and the value is first class, and could not be beaten. Improve?? it would be great if the roast potatoes could be fresher from the oven, but i guess it is not possible

It’s not about the food or atmosphere tho it’s more about how you treat costumers regardless of their backgrounds: the guy in the glasses is terrible in the costumer service and is really bad just to say nice basic comment for costumers, rude and unprofessional, I was lucky today served by girl named Jasmine, at least she made my day laughing, the food is good it’s just the guy is being a problem.

Usual Toby atmosphere with easy booking online for tables in advance. Food, whilst piping hot, with generous portions can, sadly, be a bit hit and miss for freshness depending on time of day going there and how long it has been sat under the heat lamps drying it out, but the staff are usually OK about swapping the dishes over if they see it's dried out somewhat. Recommended as a good eat in restaurant

First time ever in a Toby. Manager showed us to our seat, he was brilliant. When we went to get our food I knocked a lid off the cauliflower cheese, because the dish at the front was empty and was berated by the chef in front of everyone. It was an accident and it's not clear your suppose to ask, especially when I have not been in a Toby before. The chef purposefully tried to embarrass me in front of people when it was an accident. I won't be back. I was going to speak to the manager about it but he was dealing with the other chef and a waitress at the host point. Your chef can't act that way, I am an adult and a guest in your establishment, contrary to what your chef thinks I have a brain inside my head and it was not done on purpose. I've a good mind to contact M&B directly. The incident completely overshadowed the great welcome at the begining.

Good place for breakfast and a roast.

From a previous one star review, I also had a hair cooked into fried chicken bites in my side. Couldn’t really eat it after that unfortunately. It was short hair. Im not sure if it was an eyelash or eyebrow hair. Good service

Service and friendliness of staff was good. Quality of food was extremely variable peas and carrots were particularly poor and obviously don't keep well under heat lights. Roast potatoes were not crisp and Yorkshire puddings hadn't risen. My Salmon en croute/wellington/pasty was was heavy on pastry and light on Salmon and my wife's vegetarian option was small and uninspiring. Disappointed in my rhubarb and apple sponge pudding which was plain sponge with plasticky sauce over it, no real fruit in it. sorry to say that though everything was edible it was the poorest quality meal I have had for may years. Only chose Toby Carvery because it is family friendly and we had our 5 year old grandson with us will not be returning ever.

Booked a table in advance and still had to sit and wait half an hour to be seated. Food was very bland, mash was lumpy and looked more porridge, hardly no vegetables out. And what was there was sitting in water. No signs on the gravy so didn't know which one was vegan. Staff didn't know either. Table was sticky and chair was wobbly.

Perfect roast. Great value. Lovely staff. I would like to suggest the cauliflower cheese needs to be upgraded.

Really good service from Morgan who checked us in, took us to our table for breakfast and explained everything really well :) lots of choice on the breakfast buffet and the food was replenished quickly. Really really well priced for the amount of food you can eat. Would definitely return

It's a Toby Carvery, what can I say, lol. But the staff are way improved here now. Really great and professional to be honest. They didn't used to be. We arrived at a good time with piping got veg and fresh potatoes, so all was good. The veggie sausages were tasty and the veggie gravy was good as usual. To be honest, they looked full, so I'm always amazed how they pull it off. But our party of 10 I think, all left with full tummies and will return again

Regularly meet a friend for lunch here. Food always good & staff very nice & helpful. 15/3/24 - Lovely lunch again today, & big shout out to the chef who always works so hard. 13/12/24 Lunch was delicious & staff were very nice, attentive & happy. This Toby is much better than Downlands. The service is quicker. Food is quick and more of it. Many thanks to Andy on bank holiday Monday for helping out with my daughters food. It was my birthday and she wouldnt have had anything to eat if he hadnt stepped in. Recommend this Toby to everyone.

AMAZING!!! Food was fabulous, unfortunately we couldn’t sit within the restaurant area however had seats in the bar area which were just as good! Huge selection of food and drink, deserts and other side plates. Definitely recommend

Polite rapid service, nice food

We are regulars eating here at The Toby at Goring Road. Always a lovely experience, but today was icing on the cake as most of staff were dressed in Xmas outfits, even the chef Steve had a 'turkey hat' on, brilliant atmosphere. Never disappointed by the quality of the food, service, atmosphere etc. Steve was carving on the evening I came in and he made my whole family and I feel so welcome and he brought an amazing friendly atmosphere to the evening.
