Toby Carvery in Worthing

Everyone was nice here and helpful. Been a few times to a Toby and often staff are clearly unhappy and they huff and anything is too much trouble. Today however the staff were great. Especially David on the buffet! I’ve never met such a pleasant, sociable and kind guy on the carvery. He was brilliant!

Sit in and take away food is always hot and delicious. Great value for money

I haven't been to the Toby Carvery in Worthing before, and I was really impressed with the whole experience. Our waitress Emma was really attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, and the puddings were a great size. I will definitely be going back.

Ryan saved the day. I booked my son’s 15th birthday meal for 12 at the wrong place! When the boys turned up I could only book a table of 6 online. They made room for all them and saved the boys from a long walk home in the rain. Thanks for sorting it out.

I love a good toby carvery the staff are always happy and welcoming nothing is to much trouble for them , the carvers are always happy and very polite and also very helpful, I visit the Downlands toby carvery in Worthing West Sussex, and would like to say everyone is truly amazing up there 10 out 10 too all of them 👍👍👍👍👍

Awful overall First the restaurant was absolutely packed. We waited 20 minutes to be seated at our booked table Than we get to the carvery. There was food all over the sides of the serving area- disgusting. The beef was mostly fat- inedible We were seated at the back of the restaurant and our waitress constantly disappeared for ages. We asked to order deserts and she said she would be over, she went to three other tables and took their dessert orders first after she asked them if they needed anything else . When she finally came back to us we had had enough and left I understand it was busy. Over the cleanliness, poor quality food and serving staff let it down We won’t be returning, very disappointing.

Delivery time kept getting later and later when food finally arrived it was barely warm and had items missing

Great value with excellent table service, very polite and helpful. Car park was overflowing and a rather lengthy queue for the carvery but the kitchen team coped very well with the amount of covers going out.

The staff are always welcoming and friendly, but the meal was spoilt by the beef being very faty and being wasted because of it. The restaurant needs major redecoration and Cleaning, especially the ceiling.

All of the staff are friendly , polite , and helpful. The food is also excellent, plenty of it and good value

i was given totally the wrong order, contacted the restaurant, nothing could be done to replace order as they stopped food service. had to go hungry. hope who ever got my order enjoyed their meal, I could not eat yours as I can't eat pork....

We’re frequent visitors and love the carvery and the atmosphere. What you could improve on is more vegetables, ie onions in gravy, swede, sprouts etc.

Hour and a half wait for a carvery.. didn’t bother.

Despite an early lunch, I was very disappointed that the food was barely warm and the plates were cold which meant our meals got cold very quickly. The service was reasonable but very slow. As it stands I'm not sure I will return. I appreciate the discounted meal, but I'd rather pay full price and enjoy my meal.

Terrible experience queued 30mins for half our party to be served with the remainder told there was no meat of our choice and would have to Que again for next serving.Another 30 min wait and by the time we returned the others had finished their main course .Rather defeated the point of a family roast .There was a hair in one of the dishes too.First time I’ve not left a tip

We stopped going a few years ago because the food was awful, but went recently as it was convenient and found the food very much had improved, been several times since and will be going again. Service each time has also been very good.

I expect your experience will depend a lot on the time you visit. We went on Friday early evening and despite booking a table it was not ready and this was the same for several others ahead of us. We got drinks in the bar and were called over so all well. Food was good value and service friendly and attentive. V busy.

Considering how busy the Downlands have been this week. The quality of the food and the organisation and friendliness of staff has been fantastic. they all work incredibly well together. would highly recommend.

We had a table booked for 4 at 6pm on Thursday 9th December. We got there 10 mins early and it was HEAVING - but they accommodated us with NO trouble. The waitress who took our order was really nice and friendly. We went to get our food and there was a big queue which moved really quickly - good when you have hungry bellies 🤪 The chef Tom was a delight! He interacted with every customer like they were the only people in the restaurant, was smiley, friendly and just a real treat to find someone like him working in the hospitality industry. Food was really nice, hot and fresh 👍 we even had room for a pud! Would definitely go back

Very good but getting very expensive

Full of large groups talking and swearing loudly and no staff/management asked them to keep it down! Warning... if it's busy, don't take your kids.

This was a last minute decision for Sunday dinner, so I couldn't get a table in the restaurant as it was fully booked. However, a table in the bar was just fine. The food was up to its usual excellent standard, and the service was great.

My lunch never arrived. No one cared that as my friends ate their carveries, it had been an hour and mine was nowhere to be seen. I asked two people to check and they said “just going into the oven” but when my friends finished I said “can you cancel it” - I drove two hours to get there and this completely spoiled the day.

I ate most of it because I was hungry. The meat was warm not hot which is weird as they had just brought it out and it was so dry I couldn’t eat it all as I was struggling to swallow. This was not a nice meal.

Visited on a late Sunday lunchtime. The restaurant was packed. Quite a queue for the carvery with 4 roasts available. An abundance of veg & potatoes also available. Waiting staff extremely friendly as under a lot of pressure with the volume of customers.

Totally agree it was gorgeous bubble and squeak today lovely and cheesy would recommend this?

We have eaten in many tobys and this is by far the best, cleanliness, staff, food ALL fantastic, it was very busy but you didn't have to wait, a big shout out to our waitress Nat, she was great,both my wife and I say if your passing try it, if your not try it anyway.

Food was good. I am particularly impressed with our server Sam, very patient when going through the allergies menu for my little girl. They have a good menu if you have egg and dairy allergies.

Superb value and delicious food. Tender meat and fresh veg. The staff are excellent too, very friendly and very chatty chefs too. Can’t fault the place. Been here several times and will return. Fantastic value for money. Thanks guys 👍👍👍

Sorry to say. Had not been for a while. I normally use goring. Found meat small portions even after going king size. Food was luke warm. Shame. Don't be put off might just be a bad day.

Did not expect to wait 45 minutes to be served for drinks. they tried to give us an extra drink and charge us for it even when we didn’t ask for it and did not drink it!! the service was simply a joke. i would recommend you do not come here to eat and try a different toby carvery

Friendly, clean and sprouts were done too perfection. Only improvement would be to the parsnips by making them honey glazed and making sure the large ones are cooked properly

Despite it being a black Friday deal today and being incredibly busy, the service was excellent. Manager was very attentive and helpful, lovely waitresses checking on us if we needed anything and the food was superb. Lots of fresh veg cooked to perfection as always. I can honestly say this is the best carvery I have been to, highly recommended.

Food was great , but the service by the lady who greats you at the desk when you come in with blonde hair I found was rather rude . There was a member of staff that appeared next to here trying to help , the way she spoke to the staff memeber in front of me was appaling, she then walked of without even making eye contact or even saying come with me just walked towards the table so I follwed and said do you want me to come with you ? No reply she just walked off . First impression very poor service with attitude also lacking people skills , doesn't know how to speak to staff or customers On a postive my waitress who served me was a delight thoughtfull considerate and natural customer service thankyou to her

After a very early start this morning from Hythe Southampton with taxi bookings, it’s then onto Burgess Hill West Sussex for a return journey pickup at midday back to Brockenhurst, I decided to stop off at the Toby Carvery in Downlands Sompting for breakfast. I needed that in a relaxing atmosphere.

food was exactly as expected driver was prompt and polite

this was really tasty today. didn't include my pigs in blankets tho. I really wish there was an option to deselect mashed potatoes. would prefer more vegetables than more carbs

Food was stone cold and a whole meal and dessert was missing sadly, dont think it was down to anything untoward more than likely just left on the side as there were 5 gravies, so i think theyd intended to put the 5th meal in.

Went on a Sunday so expected it to be busy and it was. However meat was lovely. Some veg was a bit hard but overall really enjoyable meal. Server was non existent after our dessert so we waited around for a while took some time for the bill, then we were asked polity that they needed the table and to leave. Which we would've done thirty minutes earlier had we got the bill when asked. But overall a very enjoyable dinner.

Was OK, for the price it's decent but you don't get a great deal of meat, just vegetables

BEWARE, greedy overselling of tables, they will not honour your booking. We made an early (pre 5pm) booking specifically with kids (pushchair, highchair in the notes) so timing is important. On arrival they "don't have a table" and if we wait we "might get one in 45 mins". There would then be, by their own admission another 30-45 mins queue for food taking our 4:45pm booking to 6:15pm, way too late for the young kids to eat. Your booking means nothing.

I used to be a regular at this Toby Carvery frequenting both the bar and restaurant, but after my last visit with family this weekend and the standard of service received, it really has gone downhill. We booked a table at peak time on a Sunday so understandably we expected it to be busy, but despite pre-booking and arriving promptly we didn’t expect to be deferred to the bar for a further 15 minutes whilst, as you host politely put it to us, “We’re just waiting for some tables to be cleaned”! Finally seated, our waitress took our food and drinks orders and directed us to the Carvery queue. It was THAT busy we queued for the best part of a further half an hour just to be served there. My mother is disabled and cannot stand for very long periods of time, so she made the difficult choice to return to the table where we had been seated to rest. Because it was so busy she didn’t end up returning to the queue for her Carvery and essentially went hungry. My mother who is also diabetic, requested a bottled soft drink after complaining to the waitress that there was no Pepsi Max dispensing from the vending machine for the unlimited refills, only to be served a bottle of coca-cola (the full sugar version)! There was no lamb meat available when we eventually got to the Carvery counter which is the only meat my father wanted to eat so he essentially went without meat and only took and ate potatoes and vegetables yet was still charged for a full carvery. The choice of vegetables was scarce due to many pots being empty and not replaced quickly enough. The carrots tasted undercooked. With the exception of the vegetarian gravy, all the gravy pots were empty are finally getting our food! The list goes on and on. The waitress was good enough to remove the cost of one carvery for my mother who didn’t eat but overall the experience was very below par. Staff struggling to cover all tables and the bar and I feel the kitchen was probably overwhelmed too. It really does make for a stressful shift for the staff as well as a stressful visit for your customers as was clearly evident on this visit which will probably be our last. Please understand that Downlands is not the only Carvery in Worthing and if standards of service don’t improve quickly, I expect you will end up losing a lot of business to your competition. Please don’t use one of your ‘canned responses’ on here “Thanking me for my feedback” and to “Reach out to you so that we can resolve any issues” - I see this on other negative posts on here and think it only goes to show what little effort goes into appeasing those who leave a bad review on here, when the account holder can only be bothered to reply with a copy and paste job.

We regularly come here with our toddler for an early evening roast after his swimming lesson which we all like We arrived today at our booked table slot to a very packed restaurant. There was a 30 minute wait for our table and then we would have had at least a 20 minute wait for the carvery. Safe to say my toddler would not have been able to wait this long so we went home.

I had some items missing pigs in blankets and stuffing. And paid extra for pigs in blankets

ordered stuffing but none delivered, ordered veg gravy but not marked so couldn't eat it. cauliflower undercooked, food luke warm

We visited here Sunday about 12pm, we hadn't booked a table and were seated straight away. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Especially the chef serving the meat!! He was so friendly, chatty and helpful!! The pub wasn't very busy at this time, yet people were seated at the 2 tables directly next to us which are really close together! Awkward! The food was lovely, it's meat and veg! I just can't believe how expensive a Sunday carvery at the Toby has gotten!! 2 carvery's and 2 Pepsi's came to 40 quid!!!! Now that did leave a bitter taste in my mouth!! But that's my fault for not checking the price before we went!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Great service we booked and was a little early bit the staff were very helpful and genuine and sincere that made a pleasure to.eat there the carvery chef was quite funny to and this was a busy Sunday evening bit the special weekend sage and onion roasties were to die for so three types of roasties normal ,sage and onion and the best ones beef dripping roasties
