Best coffee in town. Lovely to sit inside or outside watching the world go by you can also order alcohol, pastries and sandwiches.

Only bought a coffee and it's now £3. Very average coffee, especially at that price. And the website needs updating to show new prices.

Visited with my dad when we met up in town. Had a hot chocolate and it was noticeably nicer than the average hot chocolate you get in a cafe. My dad said he'd seen it was made with actual grated chocolate and steamed milk. Would definitely recommend it.

I visited here with my partner a couple of months ago . There was no food available ! Yes you heard right. This place used to be great, with a really good offer of a slice of ciabatta sandwiches sold by the inch & a delicious mini pastry for £5 . Twice we visited recently & were met with same unfriendly response that there was no food available . It’s such a shame it used to have such a friendly vibe ! I don’t think we’ll return sadly

Popped in for a drink Sunday 21.11.21. Barista extremely non responsive, very miserable and cleary didn't want to be here. No decaf, but got impression barista just couldn't be bothered to make it. Cappuccino tepid. Didn't complain because barista obviously wouldn't care a jot. Pity, as this place is quaint.

They have a “lunch time special” Focaccia bread sandwich, with choice of filing, coffee of your choice, & piece of cake, for £6, well the sandwich is honestly bite sized! Finger food bite! They Should just say coffee & cake for £6, Server didn’t even toast our Focaccia sandwich, I had to ask her which was a great effort for her! Wish I’d got her name, & who eats a cold Focaccia? Coffee was Luke warm, & Wishy washy, but the cake was ok, but bite sized, & the servers well their are a bit off with you! It’s in a great location it’s a pity, could of been a good place to hang out to eat & drink coffee!

Great in Summer for an outdoor pint and also in Winter for a cosy drink. The Estrella tap gives a really crisp pint 🍺. Staff are friendly and do a good coffee. They’re quite eclectic which adds to the charm of the place. You’ll probably get accosted for a tab from the local Spice heads if you sit outside - but that’s part and parcel of drinking in the town.

I went in as it looks lovely and cosy from Outside and was disappointed when I visited. The young guy was rude and abrupt and was not accommodating at all. The WiFi didn’t work and the whole place was cold.

The good, is its location, a little small an cramped, but a warm place to go, generally full of all sorts of people, you can even drink Alcohol, The food will make you laugh, yes hey serve sandwiches by the inch.. I could not believe such a pretentious thing to do, however the food is of a good standard. They make good coffee and serve good cocktails, however the staff seem a bit ignorant and do not like criticism, that that does not matter as it is the owners problem as it detracts them from getting more business, the staff seem to think they are a bit special, that says it all, make your own mind up

Perfect place for a cocktail with your friends on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly bartenders with great advice about cocktails, beautiful decor, fantastic atmosphere and right next to the cinema if you fancy a movie. A real hidden gem. And perfect for a coffee during the working week!

I often visit here whilst in Newcastle as enjoy the coffee and have been know to indulge in the odd cocktail. I haven't eaten here but the sandwiches look fresh and appealing. I have had cake though and they've been lovely. Staff are friendly , welcoming and helpful. The indoor seating area is very relaxed and has a lovely ambience, as does the outdoor area which provides a non smoking and smoking area with heaters ( it is Newcastle!) It lends to a very European feel and the overhead fairy lights make it very pretty. Very central for the metro, city hotels and the independent cinema next door ( where to can also taking your drinks into, once the staff have decanted them into a plastic cup for you) Very pleasant and enjoyable.

Tucked away down a side street this coffee shop/bar is full of surprises. Nice decor and a surprising selection of high quality drinks behind the bar coupled with great staff make this an awesome hidden venue. Almost don't want to shout about it so it doesn't get too crowded...

Used to come here all the time before change of hands but still good coffee and now more seats outside and the alley is tidied up with lovely lighting at night. A good place for a Sunday afternoon coffee if in town or before / after movie as part of Independent Cinema. Nice beers and cocktails and you can buy sandwiches by the inch (not cheap but nice!) Live music one night mid-week and on Friday nights during summer Central and worth a visit to bar and cinema You can also get meals from Tyneside cinema cafe bar next door and eat them here in the sun

I visited the cafe a few times not long after the change in ownership and was really disappointed with the quality and price of the drinks - overpriced beers and spirits and truly disgusting coffee meant I've avoided this place for a quite a while. I finally decided to try again recently when I bumped into a few friends outside and I can safely say the coffee is still absolutely awful, probably the worst you'll find in any cafe in the city. I'm aware they use Pink Lane coffee and while that's not to everyone's taste it's still possible to make it drinkable - as Pink Lane cafe prove - but the stuff served in Vicolo is bad enough that I've not managed to finish a cup yet. This time I ordered a cappuccino, because even if the coffee is only average the milk can help mask the poor quality. It's quite an achievement then that the coffee I was given tasted quite so terrible, I ended up leaving it and heading just across the monument to Di Marco for a proper coffee. The alley is quite a nice place to sit and chat but that's about the only positive I can think of, I don't think I'll be giving this cafe a third chance.

We have visited this bar/cafe many times. It does themed nights, most recently Wes Anderson evening,to mark the opening of his film' Isle of Dogs' . Vegan food nights, .....delicious. Music nights in the Summer.....brilliant. Fab coffee, lovely wine and presecco and all under the umbrella of beautiful alley lights. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are hard working and friendly. Love this place, and best of all its linked to the best cinema in Newcastle and a quaint eatery as well as the Tyneside bar resturant. Everything you need in one place.

I went here twice in one day! Now that’s a record for me, as it’s primarily coffee and cocktails, it’s hot chocolate which I got both times was amazing. It was definitely on par with the regular hot chocolates that I get at a well established coffee shop. I’d definitely recommend going here for hot chocolates before spring gets here! It’s also quite a quaint little place that boasts a comfortable atmosphere, and all around good vibe. Definitely check it out if you can!

Great little place with a European feel to it , small but very tasty selection of coffee that during the week they serve until 10:30 pm and 11pm on weekends . A few cakes and bites as well , I would recommend the coffee cake ! Alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages available. A few tables inside and a few tables outside with heaters for the cold days and nights . Even though it is wheelchair accessible it will be difficult to maneuver indoors . Prices are normal and service good . Music is not loud so we were able to actually communicate with each other. Happy to finally find another place in the city that serves coffee till late

Apologies before hand if this sounds a bit long winded (this is actaully the first review I've ever left on Trip Advisor) but I really thought I have to speak out.I've been coming to this cafe for years and its always been great - really lovely staff and great coffee. Last month I popped in and ordered a couple of coffees and a couple of sandwiches. I was served by a guy with a short mohican - who I now know is called Steve. I ordered the food and asked politely for my receipt (I'm self employed) as he typed my order into the till. His response was really out of the blue. He basically decided to give me a full dressing down in front of other customers and staff members (who were visibly cringing) for not asking for the receipt quick enough. I was a bit stunned and after not really responding I just went off and sheepily sat in the corner of the cafe. Another staff member actually brought my order over and apologized for the outburst. I've havent back since but on Tuesday I went in and had the misfortune to be served by him again. This time I made sure I had my card ready. I ordered and before even handing the card over I asked if I could get a receipt. Would you believe it I got exactly the same treatment!! The cafe wasnt busy (there was no-one waiting in line behind me) so couldnt understand his logic and this time I decided to speak out.I first asked him why he was speaking to customers like this? I then asked him why it was so imperitive to ask for the receipt while ordering and before even handing any cash over (imagine that in any other restuarant or shop!). He was actaully a bit taken a back and (unbelievably with a straight faced) responded that "he was a very quick typer so thats why I should ask quickly".I'm really not some sort of jobsworth who (if ever) complains but this sort of rudeness really gets to me. I'm a paying customer and while I'm in an establishment I should be able to ask for the receipt whenever I want without being spoken to like that. I'm not sure if this is his little power trip to brighten up his day but unfortunately this is the last time I'll visit Vicolo. Which is a bit of a shame as the rest of the staff are all lovely and super helpful. Anyway rant over but this is just one of those things I had to get it off my chest.

Since this place changed hands it has went rapidly downhill, what was the best place in Newcastle for coffee now sells tasteless watery junk, so sad to see profit margins overtake quality, will not be going back.

I go here quite often for lunch and recently went for cocktails. I noticed the cocktails were quite watery, which was a shame because they are not cheap. I don't mind paying £7 for a cocktail, but I do mind paying £7 for a bad cocktail. I didn't bother mentioning it because the staff had been quite unhelpful, not able to answer questions and stood behind the bar talking and laughing. A friend of mine went the day after and also noticed the cocktails weren't right, and another friend said the same. Other than the bad cocktails and cliquey staff, the food is good and it's a nice place to sit outside when the weather is good.

It has to be said that this is part of the fabulous Tyneside Cinema building and linked to the whole experience.Simply put it has great cocktails, great staff and a great outside/inside atmosphere. We called into this café on our way to The Great Northern Museum. We ordered two coffees at the counter, but when we came to pay, we were told that cash was not accepted. This is a practice that we find quite deplorable so we left. It turned out well for us, because there was a café a few doors down which was very good and accepts cash.

Had high hopes for brunch at Eve but was a bit disappointed. We were seated straight away by a friendly young man. Probably sat for about 15-20 minutes without anyone approaching us for our order. I managed to get the hosts attention and he took the order for us. Seemed like there was a lot of staff but most of them lingered round the bar area. Saying that, their uniforms were odd, some were dressed in jeans/tshirts/aprons but none of them co ordinated so not always easy to identify who worked there and who didn’t. Pancakes were £11, were quite a small portion so not enough to fill you up. The live music was good but I’m not really sure it suited the vibe.
