Had an afternoon tea booked for today (21st Jan). Paid a deposit, turned up today and it was all closed up. Loads of letters on the doormat and a big padlock on the door. Not even as much as an email to say they were closing down so wouldn't be able to honour the reservation. Nothing in social media either. At least let people know, I travelled an hour to get there.

Pancakes and milkshake lovely! Cream tea lush! Very nicely decorated! One big let down is having things we ordered served separately and it not coming out together! Resulting in us thinking they had forgot half of our order and asking for it. Waitressing staff friendly when taking orders however some what lacking oomph when bringing over orders / clearing tables. Nice place could be exceptional!

Honestly, I have for years ordered occasion cakes from here and they are always spectacular. However, the experience in store is always a massive let down. The service is just seriously lacking. Feels like it's always school age girls in there and no disrespect but they just don't have the level of experience to know how to provide good service. There needs to be at least one very experienced person leading the team in some way. We recently had an afternoon tea, we were not greeted, waited 20 mins to even take our drinks orders, then 55 minutes for the food to actually arrive. Food is always nice, as I day that's why we return but time after time the service without so much as a smile is just not good. For that reason I think we will stick to ordering occasion cakes only and not use the shop. Such a shame as there is the makings of something really good here. When one of the owners used to be in serving you could see the passion for it and they were so welcoming, I appreciate they may not have time to work in store themselves now but that passion needs to be instilled into their staff a bit

Very 'Instagram' interior which does look beautiful, but the staff are impolite and don't seem very happy. It took us an over an hour to be served food and weren't provided any refills which are supposedly included in our afternoon tea. The cakes don't taste amazing for the high price - all a bit flavourless compared to other fantastic local bakeries like Pink Lane and Northern Rye.

The cake itself was beautiful to look at and in the end was everything I asked for. I booked GB cupcakery with confidence after seeing them and their team at a wedding fair a few years prior to the wedding who talked me through the process of ordering and made it all sound very personal. I have even attended the cafe numerous times. However the customer service around booking and arranging the design/tasting was challenging and I even had doubts at times the cake was going to be delivered on my wedding day. I know there was a global pandemic in the middle of it all, however the lack of communication from them was lacking throughout the process. We even booked a tasting box to collect from the cafe (after spending 3 months and numerous calls and emails trying to contact them) - we drove 30 miles to collect it only to find they had NOT prepared the box for us. They did kindly post it out to us, however in the tasting box, one of the portions had a very large egg shell the size of a finger nail when I bit into it. I did email them to inform them of this along with my choice of flavours. However, no acknowledgement of this email was made when I spoke to them on the phone to tell Then my choices for the second time - after I had waited with no reply for another 3 weeks from my said email. (at this point my mother was begging me to cancel the cake and loose my £165 deposit as she has worked in catering all her life and service like this is not what is expected) but i decided to stick with it and give them The benefit of doubt. Anyway the cake did turn up, they eventually the week before the day spoke through everything with us and the cake was beautiful on the day, with extra thanks to the flowers provided by the florist. The cake inside did have lumps of flour in the sponge but by this point that was expected as attention to detail when it came to the inside of the cakes is clearly looked over. I am glad to see that the option of booking wedding cakes is now NOT an option on their website as this company is clearly too busy with the cafe to care for wedding customers. Even after taking a £165 deposit. Their excuses for lack of communication was they had closed the direct email address for wedding enquiries. As they were too busy to take any more on. Which I can’t understand you doing without informing your brides and grooms of this change first. Thanks for the cake but I would not recommend using GB cupcakery for a wedding.

Totally unaware of surroundings terrible customer service. Milk burnt in coffee and had been spilt all down the cup. Friends was inedible. Will not be coming back even though cake was nice.

We booked in for a lovely Afternoon Tea, and were left a little confused when the menu available on the tables didn't show what was on offer. No Ceylon, but the Earl Grey was nice. No sugar tongs for the sugar cube bowl, so be aware as it's a covid risk. The food was brought out on lovely cake towers and there was plenty for the modest £20. The sandwiches were a little plain but well filled and the sweet desserts were lovely apart from the brownies which were far too dense. The cheese scones were served without butter, but they had some upon request that was as hard as stone. Not great, but easily solved by putting it under the teapot. The fake flowers on the table were filthy, covered in dust etc which I noticed after a few minutes of sitting down. It really took away from the lovely setting. Overall 3/5. It's ok. Could be a lot better. Considering the location, more effort is required to maintain custom.

Visited here for afternoon tea as part of a hen party. We waited a few minutes upon entering to be able to speak to someone to be shown our table. We were left for around 10 minutes with no information until a waitress came over and took our drinks order. This was the only time we were asked what drinks we would like, no refills were offered throughout our time there. The children in the group were asked what sandwiches they would like, and we found the portions sizes great in terms of the difference between adults and children’s afternoon tea. All the contents of the afternoon tea were lovely, we had to bring back leftovers in a box as there was so much. The lack of service just left us feeling disappointed, the afternoon tea is advertised with unlimited tea and coffee, however as previously we were never asked again if we would like refills, we had to seek someone out and ask ourselves. I would visit again but only if the service improved.

We happened upon this cafe by accident and with its pink decor and pretty flowered wall, we were drawn in! We ordered a drink and a cake each, which was difficult as there is so much choice and everything looks so yummy. My husband ordered a milkshake, however it came and it was a lot more than a standard shake..I believe they are called Freak shakes,(?) It was a caramel shake topped with cream and honey comb pieces, but also a scewer with a square of brownie and a cake pop!! We all had to have a take home box as we were so full!

Such a lovely little cupcake shop which I found on instagram and instantly needed to visit. We travelled from coventry to see family this weekend, and this was on my list to visit. On arrival I was not disappointed. Soo girlie and pretty, and as I would say - very Instagrammable! Only 2 downsides (if I need to pick) is the location, it seems hidden away, and I feel it deserves to be shown off more, and secondly we don’t have one in Coventry! The eton mess cupcake was delicious. Highly recommend.

We got afternoon tea for 6 and the panda birthday cake. The cake was amazing and 5 days after my birthday we are still eating it and it's still as yummy. This has been the best sponge that I have tasted in a long time. We went for the cookies and cream filling and it was delicious. The icing on the outside of the cake was very tasty too. I was over the moon with it and will definitely return. The raspberry chocolate scones were also a hit with my friends too. I'm glad it's not too close to my house as I would end up very fat. Great treat. The only down side was that the top of the cake box was not attached fully and it blew off on the way to the car. Other than that I'd give it 5 stars.

Very disappointing experience overall. Ordered a box of cakes for delivery and selected specific date - gift was delivered too early and arrived on wrong day. When I contacted GBC to try and resolve this, no assistance offered and I was told the order was either going to be early or late either way. I have sent two emails since trying to rectify this issue, no replies received to either. Customer service very poor, but in addition to this the products were also bad quality. Very cheap tasting cakes, artificial flavours and dry textures. We ate very little of the cake box before throwing away the rest. Not inexpensive cakes which was not reflected in the quality of the product. Coupled with the exceptionally poor customer service, I will not be ordering again and have advised friends against doing so

We visited here to try one the new milkshakes advertised on their Instagram post (pictured below). Their post describes an offer of two shakes for £10 to celebrate the release of their brand new shakes... but after ordering we found out the new shakes are not in the offer?! Couldn’t understand this at all as the picture of their post is clearly of the new kinder ones, so unfair to place this on a post describing the offer (these shakes are £7.95 each). So when we asked which were in the offer we were told canny caramel, biscoff and roasted red, so we ordered a caramel one and a biscoff one. We paid and sat down for the member of staff to then come over to tell us she ‘forgot that there’s no biscoff’, so had to order a different one, meaning in the end we received our third choice drink with no apology. Milkshakes themselves were lovely, but very disappointing that we would have had to pay an extra £6 in total to receive the drink in which we actually came for.

The whole experience was ruined by the bad attitude 1 one staff member. Afternoon tea at £20 per person you would expect something amazing or at least some service but no one came over unprompted. Cakes were nice and you get loads but seems pointless as no one could finish it. All the walls were covered in condensation and made you feel sick. Could no one crack a window or get some air conditioning? No amount of fake flowers can make up for a very average afternoon tea with horrendous service. Baby shower for my sister who was visiting from Mexico could have been a lovely afternoon but the bad service left such a foul taste in our mouth. I would not recommend. The title says it all to be fair - staff were rude and unhelpful, bordering on argumentative - unsure why. Paid £3.80 for what turned out to be a cornflake bun! Other cupcakes were just sweet - all tasted the same regardless of what they were supposed to be. It’s a pretty cafe and a nice idea, but if it’s going to get return business then staff need some training and prices need to reduce, or the quality of the cakes needs to improve to match current prices and the expectations customers have when paying that much.

Service was very slow but to be fair to the waitress she was the only serving, seermed to be afew bosses hanging about but not serving.

Booked for afternoon tea here during a weekend away to Newcastle without the kids. It was a treat for my birthday as I love going for afternoon tea and my husband had never been. The venue itself was lovely - light and airy with lots of pink balloons and flowers everywhere. However, the food itself was disappointing. The bread was hard and the sandwich fillings were dry and unimaginative. The tea was in a tiny one-cup pot, despite it being billed as unlimited. You may say this should not be a problem as we could have just requested more, but the service was non-existent, to be honest. After the food had been delivered, we weren't asked again if we needed more of anything, or whether everything was ok. My husband had to queue at the counter to request further teas and coffees. Not my idea of an indulgent Afternoon Tea.

From the moment you walk in the atmosphere is great and the staff are super friendly .We ordered the french toast with bacon and maple syrup which was so tasty .The portions are so big we struggled to finish the breakfast.

A great location, great decor. Really good product. But very much let down by the slow service. Three staff and a queue of four in front of me. Guess how many took customer orders or rushed to get to the next person wanting to give them money in exchange for cake, sandwiches or drinks? That’s right one, one poor soul.

The Great British Cupcakery was recommended to our small group during a day trip to Newcastle. Lovely looking but when inside there were 4 staff members behind the counter (doing not a lot) and we stool and waited for 2 minutes to even be acknowledged. The venue was busy and when shown to a table it was filthy, as was the two small tables next to it. We had to clean the chairs before we could even sit down. Ordered our food which came in just a few minutes and we all thought it was very nice and value for money. However the surrounding tables were still not cleaned for 15-20 mins, (not sure what the 4 staff members were doing during this time) A real shame as this could be a very nice place to visit, I feel the staff need to get a grip with customer service and not standing about chatting. I must say that I am not a person to moan but felt compelled to mention our experience.

I’ve been here twice before but it’s definitely improved. Great vegan options- sandwiches and cakes. I had the prettiest fish(less) finger sandwich ever and done delicious chocolate raspberry sponge. Staff friendly and welcoming. A lovely treat and I’m sure I’ll be back.

We went to the GBCC today for afternoon tea for my mams birthday. It was £80 for four of us and we found this expensive because we have tried so many places now and often to a much higher standard and with an alcoholic drink for a small amount more, or cheaper altogether for more cakes. The location is slightly difficult to find but this is often the case with places in the quayside due to bus lanes etc. The cakes were delicious and a good size however I feel for the price you should be able to choose your flavour of cupcake from the cabinet instead of just strawberry. The sandwiches were amazing and as a vegetarian the choices were so unique and tasty. I got red pepper hummus with cucumber, cheese and pickle, cream cheese with caramelised onions and minted pea with avocado. I was so impressed with these, cheese scone so nice and the summer berry scone is nice but there really should be clotted cream not squirty cream because this seems cheap. Overall the cafe is beautiful with flower wall interior and pink walls and food was tasty just a little bit overpriced in my opinion.

Disappointing afternoon tea, which had some minor flaws. Too much mustard in the sandwiches and only one put of tea. Table service was very poor and staff were unorganised, we had to keep going to the counter to request drinks. Then requested boxes for food to take away and after 20 minutes we asked again at the counter. We requested the bill and waited another 20 minutes before the same staff member came to the table to ask if we would like the bill. Maybe better to get a take away cupcake and coffee!!

The Great British Cupcakery So we were checking out #tynebridge And fancied a quick coffee/snack. Came across this cute little place called #thegreatbritishcupcakery Serving cakes, teas, coffees, and a selection of waffles. The decor and set up is so cute, floral walls, lovely displays and very bright. The menu selection is quite small but that's not a bad thing. Certain breakfast items are only available until midday however they have a good selection of other little bits along with afternoon tea which is available throughout the rest of the day. I had the all day breakfast waffle, which to be honest wasn't that amazing sadly! I was really looking forward to it but it was lacking flavour. It came with poached eggs (which weren't runny :( ) avocado and hollandaise sauce (i opted for no bacon). £8.95 which isnt bad considering the location its just a shame it wasn't well prepared, but was presented well. Worth popping through for a coffee and a slice of cake though :) ££ 3*** #yasqueen #vegetarian #allergenfriendly #cupcakes #bakeoff #cake #sweettooth #afternoontea #newcastle #tynebridge #coffee☕ #tea #scones #freshcream #floralwall #foodie😋 #bake #avacado #poachedeggs @gbcupcakery

Nice to pop in for a dessert, prices aren't unreasonable for a handmade treat and service is good, try the salted caramel brownie, recommended!

Very cute and nice staff but the fruit scone was the worst I have ever had. Cupcake was ok--salted caramel--but only just. Lots of cream icing.

For having such a good reputation, they treat their staff appallingly. Don’t deserve to have the reputation that they do as they may have great cakes and a fancy shop but they have no people skills and are not friendly to their staff members at all.

An amazing place and not just to view. Cakes and cupcakes have a great range in flavour. Teas and coffee have a reasonable price. The place is extremely cute, friendly staff and they have takeaway which is something I haven't seen before. Highly recommended.

Visited today with my Mam, Aunty and Cousin for afternoon tea. On booking this in advance, I advised the staff that one of the party was vegetarian with a fish allergy and that two of us would not be drinking tea or coffee.

The plane looks lovely at first glance, and the cakes look too good to eat. Closer inspection though reveals filthy banquettes, and despite the staff being lovely, there is little depth to the desserts. My chocolate cupcake had a wonderful texture, but I could hardly detect chocolate flavor. The icing was just fatty, not buttery, not chocolatey, but just unpleasant. A real shame, there are so many other places to compete with

Really lovely layout and very pink which I loved. Seated quickly and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Huge selection of cakes and cupcakes which all looked lovely. I have a big slice of cake which I couldn’t finish but it was so nice. My boyfriend had a freakshake which he said wasn’t very full. Altogether though it was very nice!

First visit in a few years since the place was redone, stunning inside and very polite staff-lovely lady even complemented me on my hair so I feel sad leaving an average review but the cakes were dry as a bone and hot drinks + milkshakes were so oversugared we left almost everything we bought :( menu choice isn’t what it used to be either it’s trying too hard to keep up with a southern crowd- excessive avocado etc... probably won’t be coming back sadly :(

They took my order and money then I was left waiting for my coffee for 5 minutes, while they served other people. The coffe was a poor quality tasting like instant coffee. I can't comment about the food as I didn't have any.
