The Cluny in Newcastle upon Tyne

Got spiked the first time me and a friend visited and then the second time we got kicked out by security for basically no reason. Can't recommend sadly. Could be an amazing bar too

The best place for live music in Newcastle

The Cluny is still a great pub and venue, they've been holding this spot down for decades, first visit in the last 6 months, great selection of different beers, ales, a lot of them local. Food is good modern pub grub, cooked well and not over priced. Always a solid choice.

Superb small music venue with a large variety of singers. We managed to see Martin Macaloon who was amazing.

Superb venue for intimate gigs. Friendly staff, and reasonable drinks prices for a city venue.

Staff were miserable and the drinks are highly priced but, other than that a nice place just didn't feel welcome. This was on a Saturday dinner time.

Entré a la hora del almuerzo y el lugar vacío que me sorprendió hasta que fui al bar a pedir. La camarera era extremadamente grosera y apenas podía molestarse en hablar conmigo. Cuando la comida se ponía sobre la mesa se atiborraba en una estúpida cesta de plástico y no había suficiente espacio para cortar la comida.

Nice place for a gif for Been Stellar. Great sound. Seems to be nice for a drink with friends. Didn’t get why they sell me a beer after the show but not the other beverage and closed the bar after. Possible it was late?

Not happy at all. I stood here for ten minutes waiting to be served and noticed other people who came in later were getting served before us and we noticed this. Me and my friend were pretty much ignored the whole time. Terrible customer service. Real shame, because I wanted to try somewhere different.

Took ages for the food to come out. Took almost 2 hours and only told us it would take that long after we had paid so we had to eat there. There wasn’t much seating either, thank you x

Great venue. A few disabled parking spots close by. A lift or stairs in the venue. Good prices on drinks. Lovely friendly helpful staff.

Really enjoyed seeing China Crisis last night

I'm mixed based on my two visits, both to Cluny 2. I really like the artists that come to this venue and it's great they book such a variety of performers. I wish that the venue was much more pleasant. It is an underground basement with bathrooms that reek of ammonia. The staff talked loudly throughout the last performance I went to which I found pretty disrespectful to the artist and also very distracting. Also the decision to have seating besides a few benches in the very back seems to be completely random, so plan to stand for 3-4h if you attend. There was a performer today I wanted to see at Cluny 2, but I decided to stay home because I didn't want to risk spending a night crammed underground overheating and standing for 3.5h. I'm going to see a show at Cluny 1 in a few weeks and hopefully that will be a more pleasant experience.

Great gig, but the plastic cups spoiled what taste the craft ale might have had. Set on an old industrial building in a former industrial valley near the city centre and river Tyne. Ouseburn has a number of good pubs surrounding The Cluny.

Been here twice to see some live music. Very small gig room (can hold about 300 people) and it becomes hot very quick but still enjoyable! The drinks are on the pricier side but as to be expected. Overall good experience 🤩

Great little place to watch a band and if the weather is nice to sit outside!

Been going to the Cluny for years, team works their collective bum off to make it special, deffo worth a visit if you haven't been before.

Después de nuestro tour por el túnel de Victoria, ya que obtiene un 20% de descuento en la comida con su boleto, tuvimos un fantástico perrito caliente elegante con todos los recortes y la piel en papas fritas y una mejilla de Filadelfia en baguette de masa agria y una copa de vino y una pinta de cerveza. La comida era buena, muy sabrosa y llena, el filete de queso era tanoooooo sabroso. Era tranquilo para un domingo por la tarde, pero estaba limpio y el personal parecía amable. En general satisfecho con la visita.

Cracking pub for venues would recommend to anyone

What an absolutely amazing place. As a first time visit it was a bit maze like if you look around C2 as well with it's staircase but what a fantastic set up! Good selection if beers on cask and keg and a lovely looking pub. Then you go round the corner through what looks like a cupboard door and you are in a little music venue with it's own small bar. Brilliant atmosphere and absolutely loads going on, pretty much something every night. Absolute shining light for real ale and the music industry. (We saw Reverend Peyton and his Big Damn Band and they were superb.)

What a night with Bad Bob Bates and The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band!! Just the best! Will definitely be back to listen to more bands. Great night out!

Have attended gigs at The Cluny many times, always great. Most recent gig was The Leisure Society. I didn't know when I bought the tickets that I would be bringing my friend who would have struggled to stand for the gig. I contacted the staff, they were very friendly and accommodating and made sure there was a seat for her. A small act, but done curteously, and really made her evening. Thank you.

Cluny 2. Great venue, this room was downstairs, and there is a lift for disabled access. The auditorium is split into floor seating and terraced at the rear so you can see the stage from everywhere. The sound was great and drunks were reasonably priced.

Always a friendly atmosphere and top notch draught selection. Food is naughty too. Recommended.

Great venue, small and a real buzz

At first I thought all of the staff seemed very nice and competent at there jobs, unfortunately this was not the case. There was a lady on the bar who seemed helpful, but a gentleman with a bald head, who was extremely rude and obnoxious began to chat to the lady on the bar and was extremely drunk. His body language was appalling and he looked like he worked there as he knew everyone and was going into the private areas of the venue. His attitude was just disgusting, he looked at me and this other guy at the bar like as though he owned the venue and looked down his nose at us. He was very rude and I hope he doesn’t work at the venue because he was just so unprofessional if he does.

Went here for a concert a while ago. I'm disabled and their accessibility is pretty good-- Not perfect (there was a small set of stairs between the standard pit and the bar / viewing platform so wheelchairs had to be at the front of the pit-- artists and staff did their best but there were a couple moments things had to be stopped for safety) but the view was pretty good which a lot of venues slack on. Concert itself was really fun. Pricing isn't too bad either. All I'd say is if wheelchairs are gonna be at the front of the pit, maybe there should be a cordoned off area to save them from being accidentally pushed into if the crowd moshes or gets really energetic. Another option could be a raised platform or a wheelchair accessible way up to the viewing platform/bar and toilets section in the concert bit. I did really enjoy the Cluny but would love to see more options for those in wheelchairs and such that were a little on the safer side.

The City hall and Arena should take some lessons from this venue. They serve the best beer of any music venue I have been to and do it at a good price! They also serve really good food.

Its got everything you need, good beer, good bands and good people.

We visited the Cluny during school holidays and they had a day drinking menu and a poster for fish and chips. On ordering we were told the fish and chips offer was only for the Easter weekend. However, some of our party ordered off the day drinking menu at a reduced price but found they were charged full price. When we challenged this we were told it was not available during school holidays. There was nothing on the menu to tell us this and member of staff got really angry that we should bring this up. They were really too lazy to take the offers off the menus and objected to being challenged about it. Disappointing service and no idea how to run a business. Shame as I like the Cluny.

Very artisan area great to visit also nice walk around

Food was ok, but they had put 'day drinking' menu out giving reduced prices. Chose from this. Realised price was much higher than expected so asked. Lady behind the bar was incredibly rude. I merely queried the fact it was £40 instead of the expected £20 odd. One barmaid responded that she'd accidently put the wrong menus out and this menu was not on because of half term. I didn't have a problem with this but the other member of staff immediately became very aggressive and stated loudly "oh I'll refund it if it means that much to you". (I didn't ask for this I was just trying to alert them to the fact that they were advertising incorrect prices ). She brought the money and thrust it at me. When she brought the food she didn't bring cutlery or tell me where to get it, she was so clearly angry that I felt I could not approach her and had to wander round looking for cutlery etc rather than ask. She spent the rest of the time glaring at me which as really disconcerting and really effected the enjoyment of the meal! The place was fine but this particular member of staff really needs to consider her attitude. Poor customer service.

Always seems to promise interesting things on tap, and yet they always seem to be sold out. Feels like it tries to do too many things and doesn't quite stick any of them - gig venue, craft beer, food

Unprofessional barmaid. I was standing at the bar by myself when two grifters come along totally unaware I’m stood there (I’m not sure how) the barmaid then accidentally I believe serves the grifters, was unimpressed when this guy starts rattling off what drinks he would like rather than having manners by passing over to me, I abruptly let them both know I’ve been stood here in my apparent invisibility cloak. So I’m served next, this is an opportunity for the barmaid to apologise and all would be merry, no on the contrary, served with a sour face and dreadful customer service I’m painted the villain for holding her accountable for her incompetence. She needs to grow up and do better.
