was ok, but a nightmare to get there due to traffic

Great place to dance on a Sunday afternoon, swing, and balboa.

We had a fantastic time at the Holy Hobo, first bottomless I have been to where you are actually given a meal and not just a starter. Our server was lovely and could not be more attentive. Great experience, would go again :)

Honestly, shocker of a place! Went here for a birthday karaoke- there was vomit all over both the men and woman’s toilets despite us only just arriving to the private karaoke room. The karaoke then wouldn’t work, only one microphone- just such a let down on someone’s birthday! The guy behind the bar also clearly did not want to be there. For a group of 20+ who all bought drinks, was just such a disappointment.

Went for a "snack meal" .... and came away replete +++. The staff were fantastic.. Ordered various chicken wings, fries etc... Delivered very hot... lovely marinades. Slaw wasn't on the menu separately, but hats off.. the chef came out of the kitchen and sorted us. 👌 can't wait to return.. Superb value for money.

If they're willing to blast Taylor Swift songs on a Thursday night then they're good in my book!

Ordered an Amstel, was given gassy water than wasn't even remotely close to a beer, took 2 sips and asked to change as it was clearly off - asked to change to a cider (over £1 cheaper) and was told "there's nothing wrong with this" and "that's what Amstel tastes like". I guess this service is acceptable though since they charge £6 a pint so if enough people dont complain they'll be fine in the long run.

The old Royal Archer. Visited on a Saturday afternoon and was very quiet. Decent drinks and comfy seats but no food available.

Terrible bar staff,waited 20 minutes to be served. Staff chatting amongst themselves not taking an interest in the customers.

We had a terrible experience at HH - I had booked a table in the Kareoke Kave for 12 people, 2 months in advance yes TWO MONTHS, and followed up to confirm twice in the weeks before my booking. They were great over email/ social media, confirmed my booking however on the day we arrived on time to find our area was being completely used up by an 18th birthday party, so there were cakes, bags of presents, baloons etc all over the space. We were put elsewhere (not in kareoke area) so initially thought ok no probs, we can wait a bit for this to finish (our table was 9.30, we were told the party would be cleared by 10.). 10.15pm comes around, we go and ask for an update as everyone was initially so pumped for kareoke, and the new DJ that came on played terrible music (which we actually asked him to change). They said we could have our original table but it was surrounded by drunk 17 year olds eating cake and we were a bunch of 30 somethings on a hen... no thanks. It wasn't until closer to 11 the children left and we could actually get stuck in. We had a ball once we got our table and could start singing, but terrible organising and such a shame to happen on my sister's hen do, particularly after me confirming things. We got some free prosecco to sweeten the situation, but would have just preferred to have gone elsewhere. Wouldn't go back.

Hosted an event here recently and the events team were fantastic. A completely stress free process with all of our needs matched. Jade was fantastic. Thank you!!

TGIF (Thank God It was Free) Awarded a voucher to spend at a select number of Apartment Group venues we landed on the Holy Hobo and so for anyone considering eating here, we'll run you through our experience. Added context, we both work in the industry, have done for some time, with added restaurant and catering experience. Quiet Saturday, booking for late evening. Seated at a table one over from another who were also eating, just finishing up. Our table and surrounding tables were sticky and with food residue. Within 5 minutes of being seated we're already being asked if we know what we would like to order, we ask twice for just a little while longer. On the second occassion, the server apologises for coming over again so quickly but it was because he was "bored". Great. He's then off on what we can only assume is the management table sipping on another colleagues cocktail. And then he's off out the door, finished? Once it's been realised that we haven't been waited on we've finally got food ordered. In just shy of 20 minutes, it's out, and much to our dissappointment. My "lamb kebab" was in fact two lamb koftas on a skewer. Our chips with chilli and pulled beef respectively were dry, flavourless, and boring. We've ordered food deliveries from Delifresh, we've ordered from Bidfood, this felt like it had come from the Tesco down the road and straight into a microwave. No less than 5 or 6 minutes in and we've left a good two thirds of the 'food'. I've paid off the drinks and we're out on to the next place. This was a Saturday night, if tables aren't cleared or wiped, if there's no handover between staff on which tables need to order (it was just us as the aforementioned table were leaving as we arrived), it begs the question of what is really being done? If the fundamentals of service are not being hit, then are we safe to assume that duties of hygeine and safety are consitently being carried out? As industry staff we don't recommend and won't be coming back, complimentary drinks or not.

A very nice bar! Good, friendly service, good selection of drinks, very comfortable and cool interior. I'd recommend it both as a starting point for the evening or a Sunday afternoon when I visited.

Quick burgers that tasted alright however the customer service of the staff was questionable when no solutions were offered by the staff for essentially fleecing us of extra money for burgers to be “doubled up” that were not.

We had the ‘2 for 10’ deal and it was nasty. They should’ve been paying me to eat their food to be honest.. Chicken wings came and they were veiny, dry, and were hairy all over which made our whole table feel sick looking at them. We sent them back obviously, and ordered different starters which we waited 1 hour for before I had to go and find a waitress and ask where they were. Was only 2 other tables aswell so they weren’t busy, then when the main courses came they were small portions and unexciting. Overall was a waste of time only thing good about the place are the zombies

Had bones in my chicken somehow. I feel like they should also ask if people want drinks more often for the bottomless brunch. As not upgrading leads to it not really being worth it. Since they only ask and bring drinks once the whole table is done with their drinks. Unless it is near the end of the 90 minutes in which they come over more often. They also only bring the drinks over once all drink are made for the table, so for example people who haven’t upgraded are waiting much longer for a bottle of beer while cocktails are taking 15-20 minutes to be made. TLDR: waiters should come over to table more often with drink orders.

Came to Newcastle really excited to try the bottomless brunch however we had to wait for 15 minutes before we were approached for a drink, and continuously had to ask the bartender to come over for an order as he said we had to order from the table. We ordered our food with our first round of drinks around 7.15pm however our food didn’t arrive till 8.10pm, this would have been okay if we were warned about the wait time. Around 7.50 we asked when our food was coming and he said it was coming out now but came out 20 minutes later. Both our chicken burger and beef burger was dry, the chips were overly salty. Once our food arrived we asked if we were able to order two drinks due to only been served every 20 minutes we had only had 4 cockatiels each which are £6 with a student discount and we wanted to get our moneys worth however we were told no. Over all disappointed

Been quite a while since I visited the pub and did not enjoy the experience....met up with work colleagues but left after a quarter pint due to the heavy base music...felt nauseous...sad as it's a decent venue

First visit to the Holy Hobo … first I was slightly reserved as last few reviews where low!! But from my visit they were Great , excellent hosting skills from all team with making you feel right at home! Shout out to Jade for being defo the hostess with the mostess. Great customer journey from her! Jack the barman his drinks are as good as his looks! With a custom made cocktail of “blue lagoon” my favourite one and one of the best I had considering it was not in the menu !! And to top the visit DOG friendly and the dogs are treated just as well as the humans! 5* in This visit and Will return

3 starters on offer, one of which was not available. Then waited just under an hour for the starter to show up. Cheese stick was nice, however accompanying pizza sauce was a little weak. Burger was OK and chips were good. Chicken kebab left a lot to be desired. Bland chicken, completely unseasoned, "traditional flatbread" turned out to be 2 bog standard tortillas. No red onion in the salad as advertised. Garlic dip looked like it was taken from another table and given to us. Could've cooked a more flavourful meal at home with ease.

Nice venue, music does get quite loud even on a Monday. Good atmosphere and nice staff. It is quite dark, so not ideal for pub quizes or games etc but would be nice for just drinks.

Good selection of beers and spirits. Prices are to be expected for the time of year and location of the bar.

It was ok, there is a bit of a dirty feel to the place like it could do with a good clean. However, the service was good as was the beer.

Hi guys, I just had brief visit as open after 11pm. Ground floor located and hidden within a Hotel so not visible from the street . Google maps is recommended for location. Have fun enjoy hope this helps.

Quirky, stunning restaurant. A little bit hard to find initially. Comfy seating. Nice music and vibes. The staff were so lovely and helpful. However, we looked prior to coming on the menu online and turns out most of that stuff has changed. I got the signature burger and the cheesy peri peri chips whilst my fiancé got the vegan versions. It was the best burger I have ever eaten. Plus, we both had a delicious cocktail. We were so full afterwards. Amazing portion sizes too.

A little pricey but great staff and atmosphere (this review was from 2019 rated it 5 stars, god it's gone so downhill since then).

Food was good however 'unlimited bruch' as they call it occurs every 20 minutes so you end up drinking 4 drinks in 1.3 hours.

Booked for DINNER for a group of 6, loads of people sat on our reserved table that the staff told to move but didn’t clean. Got thrown one scabby cocktail menu between us all and told to “order our drinks at the bar”. No food on offer despite being able to book online for dinner.

Popped in here for a cheeky cocktail last night after going for a meal with friends. Atmosphere was great! And hats off to MEG, she was a little superstar! Advising us on the cocktail menu which ones were the nicest and although a tad expensive were very nice! Will definitely be back for more! Thanks so much!

Stingy. Complained that we were drinking too much at a bottomless brunch. Waiters did their best to waste time.

Did a bottomless for 1.5 hours starting at 3:30 but because they took so long taking orders and bring drinks and glasses out. When sat at 3 and not getting a cup till after 3:30 they still counted the 30 minutes we sat and waited for them when there was a group of 25 of us. Absolutely ridiculous and after we mentioned it the girl serving us was super rude and smashed a bottle down on the table. I think they don’t follow what they say and only care about they money saying we drank too much when there was a free flow. At the end of the day they were rude and greedy

Manager is an absolute Karen, won’t less us down drinks but calls it bottemless.

got free flow for 90 minutes, took 30 minutes to even ask what we wanted for free flow, then tried to kick us out an hour after that - essentially missed out on 30 mins. not exactly honest with their policies.

Had a table booked for my mate’s birthday and I rang up to let them know we would be SLIGHTLY late due to an issue with transport, however we were told we had the table until 7:30. When we arrived (19 minutes late) they had cancelled our table and told us it was “lost”. Now we’re left to wander around Jesmond trying to find a replacement restaurant due to this awful service. Gutted isn’t the word. We won’t even try rebooking.

Ended up waiting over an hour and a half for food as they forgot an order, and there was no apology or discount offered. Tater tots were still good.

We visited very early in the evening so it was quiet. Nice food and good service and I imagine quite a vibe when busy . Some of the furnishings are a bit tatty and the loos had an odd damp smell !!

The was our alternative to visiting Beach Box. Staff were very accommodating for our group and the wide selection of drinks were excellent. Due to the excitement and reasons we were in Newcastle, we ordered the Shark’s Head. For £200 it was totally not worth it and that is why I have given it a 4 star rating.

Great bar with really pleasant staff

Went on a Saturday afternoon and was really disappointed. Wait time at the bar was long, service poor, drinks expensive and glasses dirty. Used to come regularly when it was Mr Lynch but seems to have gone downhill

Amazing place with great vibes, drinks and food. However service is extremely slow, with me and a group of friends sitting down waiting half an hour for drinks orders to even be taken, then another half hour for the drinks to arrive

Service extremely slow, we only managed to order one reound of cocktails and then had to wait 40 minutes before we could order again, only to be told that the ice had run out for the rest of the night (over 2 hours before closing) and we could not order any cocktails. Drinks very expensive for what they were.

Myself and my friends visited to celebrate finishing uni. Could not praise Natalie enough, she said was so friendly and welcoming, she made our night. Lucas and Chloe were also so lovely and so helpful answering any questions we had. Our night was made by the staff. Thank you!

All of the staff were too busy chatting to each other to serve us. After an hour of waiting to get served, we decided to leave. When a young man came over to take our order he shrugged off that we were leaving and over his shoulder said “sorry about that”. it doesn’t seem like they care for their customers or giving them good quality service. Wouldn’t come back again

06/06/21 Started off grand got seated quickly but then had to wait 15 minutes to get approached by a waiter. Mind you I was rasing my hand like I was in primary school at every member of staff that passed Finally made an order then waited approximately 20 minutes for another waitress to return just to take payment Honestly I was so glad to get a member of staff and the idea of some sauce I didn't question the bill after I paid, I realised afterwards there was £21 worth of booze on the bill we did not order I take fully responsibility for my error not spotting the mistake however when I approached staff about the issue I was informed "I don't normally work here" alluding to usually working in beach box I was basically told the issue was my mistake and had to accept to drinks / cost incurred. To be honest booze is booze I didn't complain After this my table was avoided like the plague we tried to alert staff multiple time that we needed served again but no one took any notice Eventually my friend got a staff member attention to take his order and a full 30min later we got served The waiting between service just got to much for me and I left at the end

Very poor service, waited for 45 minutes and despite reserving a table we were repeatedly ignored. Drink prices were very expensive and we were left with no choice but to leave.

Putting one server on an entire room is not practical. End up losing customers and money. Bad management.

Unfortunatly the visit was ruined by the speed of the drinks orders being taken and then them actually being served, very disappointing and it seems everyone else there was also met with the slow service as barely anyone around us had any drinks

Loud music out side can hear it for hours in my home need turning down

£3 entry fee which was not aware off , hardly any drinks on menu, 40 minute waiting time for drinks , staff not bothered at all about you , no social distancing at all

I'm writing this review with a heavy heart as we as a family have eaten here on a number of occasions and also advised many friends and family to "go get a burger at Hobo's"! this was our first visit out since lockdown and also my wife's birthday so she, myself and the boys where really looking forward to it! First off i have to say the members of staff who served us where to be commended as nothing was a bother and they provided excellent customer service however the food was just terrible! My wife's chicken burger was burnt on the outside and very dry, one of my boys ordered the kebab, the bread was hard, hardly any chicken and lacking in salad, mine and my other son's burgers where ok i suppose not the mouth watering burgers i have craved for all year that's for sure and loaded with either pulled pork or beef i couldn't tell as it had no taste! As to the chips which have to be ordered as an add on to what ever main you order (££££££) they again had very little taste and where just covered in that same pork or beef from the burger. The meal came in boxes from when they where doing food outside which i understand with the restriction due to covid however we no longer have to sit outside and should be eating on plates with real knives and forks not wooden ones or i would have just went to a famous fast food giant and paid a fraction of the price! i did ask for metal ones and the guy who was serving was more than happy to get me some however at the prices which Hobo's are charging i feel they should have adapted better and if not adjust their prices to suit the less that average food they are supplying or that we received today, I will add that one of my boys and myself ate most of our food as we where hungry with us not eaten much due to looking forward to our visit but my wife and son left most of theirs. We did not complain because to be quite honest people don't have the time to now as you have a time frame at the table and to be honest i just couldn't be bothered for any confrontation however on the next table management where sitting with there laptops and must have heard us talking about how disappointed we where but did not seem to care much. I thanked the guy for his service on the way out and said it was a pleasure i think he misinterpreted this to mean the food was a pleasure but unfortunately that was not the case......If a member of the Apartments team happen to read my honest review please take this as constructive criticism not an attack as we genuinely hope you go back to the standards we are used to.

Expensive and badly organised - really slow to get drinks

Table booked at 6, it was gone 6:30 before we got our first drink. We had our table booked until 9pm and in that 3 hour period I managed to get a total of 3 drinks. We were permitted to stay at our table 'a bit longer' but in the 50 mins we stayed no one took our order, despite us both going to the bar and directly asking a member of staff if we could order. I think the cause of this problem was that about 25 guys had booked 4 tables between them and arrived around 9ish so clearly that took the staff's attention. I wasn't hugely impressed that they kept getting up and going to the other tables with their friends and that was apparently acceptable to the venue. Oh and if I can spot someone coming out of a toilet having just had a line of coke, so can the staff. I don't think anyone in our group was impressed with the food either considering the price. Pretty sure the chips I paid £5 were just frozen cut value chips. I have a 2 rather than 1 because the staff were actually very pleasant and I suspect they were just understaffed and overbooked which isn't their fault. I doubt I'll return...

I attended beach box on Sunday night. The atmosphere is always buzzing which I love, staff are friendly, drinks are slow but I understand it is busy. I ordered the New Delhi prawns which cost £8.95. I was expecting a relatively large portion for this amount of money so was very disappointed to receive a plate with 3 prawns and a small amount of salad. I was otherwise happy to pay the extortionate drinks prices but this meagre portion size took the piss.... This makes me less inclined to return and certainly wouldn't order food again.

Good place. Very busy but well maintained. Table service but takes a little while for drinks to get there.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to beach box especially Lucy and Lucas that made my night first class service lovely people and the best attitude towards work. We all haven’t been out for a long time and couldn’t wait to for it and these two adorable people made the night even more special the place was packed but Lucy always made sure we had a drink and we were doing ok bless her, the security staff were also really nice and doing an excellent job. If I were an employee I would be so proud to have a team like that, Lucas is the life and sole of that place making sure people are having fun checking their ok it’s brilliant to see and be a part of we will definitely be back ☺️

Our table was booked 9-11, we ordered drinks as soon as we were seated, just 3 bottles of wine, and shots and it took over an hour to arrive after us asking about 6 members of staff where our drinks were, they were extremely ignorant and unapologetic, and then when our bottle of wine was served they didn’t even give us any glasses, the only nice members of staff was the bouncer who helped us get the attention of the actual staff and the manager who did give us a refund but I honestly would’ve just preferred to get my drink on time as it closed at 11 and were only able to get one round.

Edit for Beach Box: Does great food but the cocktails were very disappointing. 4 of us over 30 (I'm 34) were told to come straight through as we're just there for a regular booking rather than for an event that was on. Doorman stopped us and made us rejoin the queue as we had to have our IDs put through a machine before we were allowed in. No explanation given when we asked why. Pretty dodgy. Won't be returning. Original for Holy Hobo: Warm welcome. Awesome service. Really makes a difference when you can see staff enjoy their job and are proud of the product. Rightfully so as well. Lush decor. Super tasty cocktails. Amazing food.

Arrived at beach box got placed on a table in the rain when there was lots of available seating undercover. I politely asked if we could change tables they said quite rudely no. After this we proceeded to order drinks which took 2HOURS to arrive! Not impressed at all. The service has been repeatedly poor each time I’ve visited they really need sort it. I’ve woken up today feeling very ill can’t stop shivering which I think is down to waiting for so long in the pouring rain, I understand they have no control over the weather but if we were served faster we wouldn’t have had to endure the cold for so long. Very very disappointed. Will not be returning.

Nice atmosphere but drinks are ridiculously expensive for what you get, staff don’t actually serve you, basically I’d go once but never again. Will never go again. The DJ was amazing tho.
